Keyword here paladin? Work. Work hard as fuck, prepare to sacrifice all your time crunching, drawing or writing. Gamedev business is cutthroat as fuck, you work horrible deadlines after deadlines. But it is FUN once you get into it. Also, find a bunch of talented people and latch on to them, pick their brains and get real close. You'll want contacts when you get out on the market. The indie side of Gamedeving actually look bright, many talented studios getting a chance thansk to Valve starting the Steam Greenlight initiative. Also, remeber that the flashy names? they are justa small part of a team. You have an idea you want to turn into a game. Stick with it, get people to help you, work it, do not be afraid to kill your darlings to make it fit/sellable and just PRACTICE at what ever you do.

made by the ever charming and talented Lillian Thorne.

First I'll just need to figure out what the hell it is I want to do, exactly. I'm just a big blog of ambiguity as far as that goes. Couple that with the fact that I absolutely have to pick a college to attend in just a matter of weeks and I'm borderline losing my mind right now.
I don't know what to put here right now.

I used to want to get into game development since I was a little babino, hell, I wanted to work at Bungie one day. I had the computing background, artistic writing "Spark", and the will to do all the work. But then I sat down with my dad and he told me every last detail of how programming works and he promptly crushed my dreams into little bytes of sadness.

But as for AOE2HD, I'm heading down to the dev offices and shoving money down their throats.

    God I miss ensemble...

Game dev isn't the work of a single person. It's usually a massive team, some of whom don't have the slightest clue how programming works. Unless you're some kind of indie savant who can build entire games by themself, I don't think you're necessarily required to understand programming.

Actually. indie games tend to be made by small teams, 3-4 guys. Even when the the games are huge, massive money sinks the teams aren't exactly massive.
