The galaxy is vast, full of over 190 billion uncharted star systems.

As galactic civilizations expand, it becomes essential to explore new frontiers, charting out unexplored star systems, surveying planets and asteroid fields for valuable minerals, planets suitable for colonization, and new civilizations.

Many of these activities are undertaken by various governments, but even the various empires of the Galaxy do not have the resources to scout them all.

And so they contract out the jobs to civilians, non-aligned parties who will sell the information to the highest bidder. The more risky the exploration, the greater the reward.

But at what point does the risk outweigh the reward? And at what point do civilian exploratory services discover things better left hidden?

Enter the crew of the Pioneer, a civilian vessel owned by the Achenaran knight, Sir David Boone. While he sports a privateer license, he uses it merely to have access to quality armaments... for an exploratory vessel must at times pack the necessary weapons to defend itself.

Appearance: 6'2", 220 lbs, David Boone is large for an Achenaran. He is built like a tree trunk, with muscles to show. He had dark hair and tanned skin.

Merits: Fearless and daring, Boone never balks at a challenge
Flaws: At times, David Boone does not know when to back down from a challenge, either
History: Served a tour in the Achenaran Imperial Armada as a Space marine. Upon retirement, Boone was able to get a used surveying vessel. Hired a mixed crew of various races, not discriminating between Achenaran citizens and aliens, so long as the crew has no fear and can get the job done.

Merits:Built himself an entire Neyloid assistant out of scrap and spare parts, as well as a new set of legs for himself after a near fatal ship wreck.
Flaws:Skittish, shaky, easy to scare or run off but easy to anger if you mention his height (which is short)
History: Ez was an extremely skilled young mechanic. Being the son of a couple of immigrants, Ez got to live right next to the scenic junk yard of the entire settlement.Every day when his parents would go to one of their many jobs, Ez would scour through the junk to look for something interesting. After a while he started putting stuff together. Eventually he had assembled simple machine, weapons, grappling hooks, and his pride and joy, Dotch

Skills:
Antimatter weapons specialist - Kazanni, like any Sohnen warrior, favors her race's signature antimatter weaponry.
Boarding specialist - Kazanni is professional in ship to ship warfare, particularly in boarding actions.

Merits: Like all Sohnen, Kazanni has a very long life. Despite being middle aged to the eyes of her people, she's seen a lot more of the galaxy than people of other races. It'd be wise to take her advice on things. The Sohnen are a very ancient people, their technology and their knowledge of the galaxy are invaluable to anybody. Kazanni is coming to be a little more friendly to the younger races. She is approachable now, at least.

Flaws: Kazanni suffers the same flaws as all Sohnen, they are very anti-social toward other races. She and her small team of Sohnen mercenaries tend to stick together, talking with others when necessary. Lately, however, Kazanni has come to lighten up her attitude toward others. Perhaps it has been her time away from Knossos that has made her become more tolerant of the younger races. Kazanni is usually also in her lockout suit aboard the ship. The Sohnen began on an iceworld and their biology has evolved to suit that climate. Any warm or temperate areas will either result in Kazanni being in her lockout suit or ending up quite sick. Kazanni's personal quarters is as cold as a meat locker.

History: Kazanni was born and raised on the Sohnen homeworld of Knossos. Her family had raised her to be the ceremonial icon of her people that her bloodline demanded her to be; the Priestess of the Void. It was during an attack on Knossos from a rogue Sohnen Fleet Master and his armada that changed Kazanni's path. Despite the armada being defeated, they managed to escape with a large number of their ships still intact. Kazanni became a Sohnen Blade Maiden under a false identity and was deployed to hunt after the injured rogue armada. However the Fleetmaster and his armada were never found and are still at large. There are rumors that the armada makes it's appearances every once in a while and commits war crimes, blaming the entirely of the Sohnen Conclave. Kazanni's ultimate goal as a Blade Maiden is to kill the Fleet Master and reclaim the ships of the armada.

Kazanni's Weapons and Equipment

Sohnen Antimatter rifles are known for their fierce ability to penetrate armor. This makes them very risky weapons to use aboard spaceships as they can puncture the hull of the ship and depressurize it. This is also what makes them great when fighting aboard hostile ships. The Sohnen repeater is their mainstay rifle, capable of firing weaker automatic shots or strong single fire shots. Infantry antimatter weapons do not carry to the strength to breach strong shields however. Sohnen infantry usually rely on larger antimatter cannons from their fleet in orbit to deal with them.

Kazanni carries an Achenaran Heavy Pistol as a sidearm and as a means to deal with shields so that her Repeater can be of more use. The particular model she is using fires ballistic rounds rather than energy. Because of this, ammunition is a consideration. Kazanni keeps two spare magazines with her at all times.

Kazanni's former status of Void Priestess has awarded her with a ceremonial warblade as personal protection. Traditionally, the warblade is all Kazanni should need, leaving other weapons for her Retinue. But since she has left that path behind, the ceremonial warblade is now her up close and personal weapon of choice. It is always on her person at any given time. Despite having broken tradition by wielding another weapon, Kazanni never lets anybody else, not even her fellow Sohnen teammates, to handle it.

- The Sohnen are an ancient race that achieved interstellar travel long ago.
- They are very elusive and tend to evade the dealings of other galactic races.
- Sohnen ships are large and usually colored in dark shades. Sohnen ships are occasionally spotted but are enigmatic at best, they are never seen in numbers higher than five. Unless a Sohnen Warfleet is encountered.
- The Sohnen live up to around 110 years (Earth Years)
- Their technology is hard to understand for other races. The Sohnen utilize Antimatter, most commonly seen in their weaponry, which gives them an edge in ship to ship combat.
- The Sohnen live in extreme sub-zero temperatures. Their homeworld, Knossos, is a frozen planet. Knossos is oddly teeming with life, however. Sohnen cities dot the homeworld in a somewhat hex-grid fashion.
- When Sohnen are in atmospheric conditions with an unbreathable air and warm temperatures, they wear full body suits, known as lockout suits, which are very cold to the touch.
- The Sohnen refer to themselves as Void Children. They worship a Goddess known as Zarana, The Void Mother.
- The Sohnen are omnivorous.
- Knossos orbits a large Gas Giant of purple and red. They call the Gas Giant 'Vayga'.
- Knossos plant life grows like a moss across the icy surface. From that moss, sprouts tall canopy-like trees and plants. They are usually pale white in color, leaving Knossos to look like a white ball.
- Animals on Knossos, as well as the Sohnen themselves, share the same pale white look of the vegetation.
- Knossos' atmosphere consists of Methane, which the Sohnen and the wildlife breathe.
- The Sohnen colonize planets that are considered uninhabitable to other species. If other races attempt to terraform a planet deemed suitable for colonization, they will stop the terraforming operation with or without consent. This has led to many galactic races being on bad terms with the Sohnen.
- The Sohnen have tend to not share their technology with others. Technology of theirs that has fallen into the hands of other species has proven difficult but not impossible to reverse engineer.

i don't suppose his ship would have a prototype GI? i really like that idea and want to use it where ever i can...

Ez and Kazanni look acceptable.

As for the GI, since it's experimental protocol currently in a test phase, they wouldn't be approved for civilian use, so the Pioneer is more likely to use the traditional AI. However, if the GI project is hugely successful, it'll likely gain widespread popularity.

Hm... might be possible that her pistol could be a grav pistol on loan from Boone... normally Achenarans don't ever share their technology with anyone.

The grav guns work along similar principles as the guns from Mass Effect, but I had them first, so there.

so they work by generating a concentrated gravity field, then pointing it at the end of the gun, thereby eliminating the need for a cartridge and propelent?

do they take into consideration the differing gravity fields of different orbiting bodies? it wouldn't be a problem with gravity fields similar to their norm, but have you considered the possibility of abnormal gravity flux on certain planets?

Gravity is constant, it doesn't flux. Because it's directly related to mass, which also doesn't flux.

Anyway, it uses a gravitic acceleration system more powerful than the EM system of a coilgun or railgun to fire a projectile, that's the basic principle.
