Taethil: Demons of the East [ OOC Thread ]

Here is the OOC thread for my roleplay, Taethil: Demons of the East. You can find the Interest Thread below, where you can read the story for the roleplay. Any questions, don't be afraid to post them below or PM me.

    Interest Check

    - - - - - - - - -

For this roleplay, I'm looking for some creative; as such, there is no basic outline for a character, nor is there a general outline for your character. As long as your character is relevant to the Roleplay, you can be as creative as you'd like (Note: I may still decline characters whom I deem not suitable to the roleplay, so take the creativity I'm giving you with a grain of salt). If you struggle, use my character sheet below as an example:

    Name: Lanius

    Gender: Male

    Age: Thirty-Eight.

Appearance: Lanius gives of an intimidating presence, standing at slightly over six foot in height, with an athletic frame gained from years of military service. His hair falls to his neck, a deep chestnut brown to complement his eyes and natural dark complexion. His jaw appears almost chiseled, with a few various scars covering his body from wounds, both gained in battle and self inflicted. His is the spitting image of his father, which he loathes about himself, to the point that he rarely looks at himself in the mirror.

Personality: Lanius is a strong minded individual; if he wants something, he becomes obsessed with the thought of it until it is his. His is malicious, cunning, and very dangerous. As a King, he demands respect from those around him, and rarely shows any sign of weakness. He is extremely confident in himself, to the point that he openly allows anyone to challenge him in combat, to which he has yet to lose.

History:Lanius. Self proclaimed King and Ruler of the Kingdom of Taethil. Born thirty-eight years ago, under the rule of his father, Thedric, Lanius was never destined for the thrown; that duty belonged to his brother, Francis II, whom Lanius held a deep hatred for as long as he could remember. His father, Thedric, saw Lanius for what he was; a malicious, calculating, cunning and vengeful man, whom would stop at nothing to get what he wants. Because of this, he declared his son unfit to be apart of his Court, and instead, had him placed within the ranks of Taethils Legion at the mere age of twelve. Whilst his father had hoped this would give his troubled son a sense of order and respect, it did very little in terms of changing his character; instead, he learnt how to fight with the best that Taethil had to offer. His skills in armed combat, as well as unarmed, excelled above his peers, as did his knowledge of war. At the age of twenty-two, Lanius held the rank of General within the Legionnaire forces, as respected as he was feared by the men under his command, for his willingness to fight the enemy head on without fear.

Lanius was never satisfied by his position in the Legion; he had aspirations, and dreams. While he fought, his brother took the thrown, a just and fair King, one that Taethil needed. Lanius loathed this, and his hatred for his Brother grew day by day. Eventually, at the age of twenty-eight, Lanius lead his Legionnaire force to the capital city of Cadean, where he stormed the Spire that his brother sat atop, in a seige of blood and steel, which ultimately lead to him removing his brother from the very thrown of Taethil itself, plunging his sword into his brothers heart personally. From that day forth, with noone to challenge his right to the Throne, he declared himself ruler of Taethil, a position his father had desperately tried to prevent him gaining.

For the past ten years, Lanius has held the Throne with an iron fist; he killed those who challenge him, exiled those who opposed him, and imprisoned those who disrespected him.

Then, the mist came to the lands, claiming the Kingdom to the East. With his land threatened, Lanius is hell-driven to preserve his order and ensure his claim to the throne, no matter what the cost.

Skills: After years in the Legion, Lanius is an incredibly talents fighter, more than capable of holding his own in a fight. He is also a natural born leader, capable of manipulating those around him to suit his purpose.

Fears: Lanius has but one fear, and it is losing everything he has dedicated himself to creating.

Prejudices: Lanius isn't fond of the people of Olaello, deeming them a threat to his rule. Because of this, he openly opposes their presence in his Court, and has gone as far as to exile them from Cadean.

I'm running late as I write this, so my character sheet is slightly rushed. Also, this may not be my only character, but I'll decide that later.

'Am I loud and clear, or am i breaking up? Am I still your charm, or am I just bad luck? Are we getting closer, or are we just getting more lost?'

Cool! I've got a character in mind. Just a few questions though, when you get a chance:

    1. How does magic work in this setting, if there is any at all? Can only certain people use it, and how hard is it to learn/

    2. How does royalty work? If it's the standard monarchy with lots of nobility, how many nobles are there?

    3. What kind of religion, if any, is there? Are there any major god/gods?

I just wanted to get some details so I can hammer out my CS.

    RYSKA

Forty ( though she appears to be around Twenty - Five / Twenty - Six )
    Female
    Elf
    Lanius' Personal Guard / Assassin

Ryska was born in the North but her family did not stay there long. Her father had acquired a debt that could not be paid. In order to protect his daughter, he fled with her and his wife to Taethil. They were some of the few elves in Taethil. Ryska grew up as a blacksmith's daughter. She learned of weaponry at a young age but decided not to follow in her father's footsteps. Instead, she took to training herself with the weapons he made. She found herself adept with a sword and decided to join the Legion. This happened around the same time that Lanius was forced into the Legion by his father. The two went through their training and all that together and became close friends. Ryska was his right hand girl when he decided to take the throne from his brother. The two of them are never seen without the other but there are no romantic feelings between them. Ryska stays out of a sense of honor and friendship only.

The Elven female is just as cold and calculating as her King. She is vicious in battle and has proven her worth over and over again. There is a softer side to Ryska but it hardly ever shows. Some say she is willing to kill anyone if it keeps Lanius safe, even if that meant killing one of her own kin. Most underestimate her since she is a lithe, female Elf and seems to have no muscle behind her. It really is too bad those who underestimate her either wind up dead or badly injured. Ryska is not pleased to see the other Elves coming from the North. Most might see her as a traitor of some sort without really knowing her story.

    * Notes :: Her age may change. I just assume the Elves live longer than humans and age slower so she could be fifty and only look as if she is thirty or so. Let me know if this is not true and I'll fix it.

Browsed through the IntChk, interested. Hmm.. I'm thinking Elven boy.. Apprenticed to a mage, whom he was rather attached to.. Traveled the lands for many a year. To the prideful and stubborn elves, they are deserters of their kind. Yeah.. I can get into this.

Before I start cracking on the CS, same question as homebox. How exactly will magic work in this world?

Well, I guess that makes three of us. Though I was curious about most of homebox's questions.

    Name: Nathaniel Avaar

    Gender: Male

    Age: 22

Appearance: Nathaniel has brown gentle eyes. He has a square jaw with a low brow with cute dimples on his cheeks. His long dark brown hair is tied in a ponytail that stretches just beyond his neck. He stands tall at six foot and four inches. He is often complimented for his strong arms.

Personality: Nathaniel believes the world to be a joke that only he is wise enough to know. He is cocky and has enough charm and skill to get away with it. Although generally getting along with anyone he meets, Nathaniel is a flight risk. He rarely stays in one place for too long unless he has something worth his while. He likes to help people, and has a particular soft spot for children.

History: Nathaniel was born a bastard to a whore who died in childbirth and brought to live with the elves for several years. He was raised by a short-tempered soldier, Feras Elsinar, who claimed he raised Nathaniel as a favour to his father. He was cold, but Nathaniel found a father figure in him. The soldier slipped into a fever and died shortly after Nathaniel became a teenager, leaving Nathaniel in the care of the elves until he became of age. Nathaniel was sadder than he ever thought he’d be with this outcome.

Living as an outsider was rough. The other elves didn’t trust him and often abandoned him on their hunts and often Nathaniel was forced to sleep in stables for shelters. Nathaniel came to the conclusion that he could whine about it or he could prove himself. It took him a long time to become skilled at hunting with a bow, but Nathaniel will be the first to admit that he has a lot to learn. Despite this, he became more adept than his elven counterparts which pleased him to no end.

When Nathaniel became of age he left the wild forests of the elves and went to Taethil. He travelled all over, becoming part of a large hunting guild and making a big name for himself. Eventually that life got boring and he moved in to the city. He began to sell the pelts of extremely tough animals to a nobleman named Lord Vosler who liked to talk big about his hunting abilities but lacked any real skill. He recently came back to the city from hunting a lioness that was three times the size of a regular one only to find remnants of elves camped outside the city walls.

Skills: Nathaniel is an excellent marksman and hunter. He can move quietly on his feet and has a unique bond with animals. He can listen with the intent of wanting to understand.

Fears: Nathaniel fears women and spiders. Spiders because they simply have too many legs, and women because you can never know what one is thinking. He also dislikes committing to things and making promises.

Prejudices: Nathaniel has a strong dislike for the Taethilian army and King Lanius, which was spurred on by his foster father, Feras Elsinar.

    Name: Marion

    Nickname: Nei

    Gender: Male

    Age: 13

Appearance: Marion is a scrawny kid, which is about 5'1 feet tall. He has wavy red brownish hair that reaches just past his eyes, covering most of his freckles, pale skin and a somewhat comely face though still far from actual beauty. For the most part he wears a grey, shortsleeved linen shirt and matching pants that reach just over knees. He also wears an old brown belt, a small dagger and pocket fastened to it, that is wrapped around his waist several times due to it being too long. Over his usual attire he was a long hooded black coat to shield him against the chilly wind and curios eyes, as well as cover his rather unique hair.

History: Marion, calling himself Nei, is a waif that lives on the dirty streets of the capital of Taethil. Until the age of 9, however, Marion was a normal kid, a kind of happy go lucky child, being very optimistic and always causing trouble for his parents and 8 years older brother. His family lived in the capital of the country named Taethil and belonged to the peasant class. Although they managed to get around, they never possessed much money, of course, but still, they were a somewhat happy family, the mother being the central point and keeping the family together. His father on the other hand was a drunkard that was a member of the army and enjoyed gambling as well as drinking. In spite of that he was a kind but stern man who wanted his kids to grow up well.

But then everything changed. One night, the father had just come back from a gambling game where he had just lost a very risky bet that drove their family into debt. Being overcome by anger he drank more than usual that evening, and had turned into a violent, raging man. Seeking to get rid by his strong emotion by letting them out on the only person that couldn't fight back, Marion, he attempted to beat him to a pulp with a wooden stick. However, the mother threw herself in the way, taking the beating for her son and being killed in the process. Once the father came back to his senses and realized what he had done he disappeared and was found dead in a river some time later.

Marion and his brother now suddenly were on their on with a debt to pay and no food and barely any money. Marion's brother saw the only way in earning enough money to pay the debts by gambling and hoping to win. Unfortunately for them he didn't and only drove them further into ruin. Being forced to pay off the money he owed, Marion's brother was kidnapped and sold. However, Marion himself managed to escape before the creditors could get a hold of him as well.

Now being entirely on his own, he started to call himself Nei and tried his best to keep on living, surviving by lying and stealing and always fearing pursuit.

Personality: Nei became who he needed to be to survive, turning into an aloof, cold-hearted and suspicious boy. Acting detached from the world around and trusting no one but himself, he lead a life in the shadows, keeping himself concealed from the 'normal' people as much as possible. Yet he felt like he had no purpose in life anymore. If he died no one would even notice and if he survived he would only cause grief for the people around him.
For his age he was rather perceptive and usually managed to see the bigger picture surrounding him. However, deep inside he still was the same happy person he grew up as. Unconsciously, he always searched for someone to replace his parents or brother, someone he could trust in, although he has not found such a person yet. Though if he were to actually connect to another person emotionally, that would certainly expose all his naivity, insecurity and pain and leave him very open to manipulation.

Skills: While living on the street, Nei learned the tools he needed to survive. He was as fast and flexible as a cat, being able to move almost entirely without causing any kind of sound and keeping his balance even on the narrowest of ridges. This, along with him being a insanely talented liar and actor, turned him in a very capable and ruthless thief.
On the contrary, however, in spite of owning a dagger, he possessed as good as no skill wielding it. Even though his agility usually made up for the lack of skill when confronted with regular people, he would be hopelessly outmatched against any person that had even very slight knowledge of fighting.

Fears: More than anything in the world, Nei was scared of sleeping for every time he closed his eyes nightmares haunted and tormented him. Other than that he really hated loneliness and wished for nothing more than a close friend.

Prejudice: He doesn't have any prejudices for the most part apart from being scared of guards and any armed person in general, in fear of them arresting or killing him. Other than, however, the only thing he really hated were elves since, in his eyes, they led a perfect life without any sorrow.

I never really mentioned Magic in the Interest Check, mostly because I think setting parameters for that kind of thing is quite difficult. Magic does exist in the roleplay, but I want it to be up to the better judgement of the roleplayer to decide how the Magic works; I want this roleplay to be as open to character interpretation as possible, without going outside the idea of the roleplay. So, we have Elves, so it only stands to reason that Magic would exist in the world, in a sense. I'm starting to ramble, so I'll cut straight to it; Magic does exist, but when using it for a character, I want some thought put into it, not too over the top. I'll say if I think something is too much, but over all, just use your better judgement when deciding how to use Magic.

homebox: To answer your second question, royalty works like this; Taethil is ruled by Lanius, the self proclaimed ruler. His sibling his dead, and he has no children, so that is as far as the Royalty goes for Taethil. As for the Elves, the Royalty works in a similar way to Taethil, but instead of a King, they have a High-Priestess, whom essentially acts like a ruler for their race. In Taethil, the nobles are simply the richest and most powerful familes in the Kingdom. Also, as of yet, there is no real religious force in Taethil.

I hope that explained things; it's quite late at night here, so I'm not thinking too clearly, Haha.

The IC Thread is up, so if your character has been accepted, feel free to go and make a first post. The story will revolve around attempting to stop the mist from engulfing Taethil, and uncovering the mystery behind it, but that'll be in the long-term, so feel free to make your first post as open as you'd like.
