This thread is for me to have an open forum with those intersted in joining this role play. It is a new step I am adding to my GM play book. This thread is a Character Creation Thread.

This role play would take place fifteen years after the end of the series and will really only involve new characters. The group plot would be the reintroduction of the Triwizard Tournament only this time it is being held under a different format. Instead of a single champion each school is allowed a team of four students. Three of these students would be members of the team while the fourth would be the team captain. The entire team competes in a majority of the tasks; however, there are times when the team captain is the only one allowed. Here you are allowed to ask any question while you come up with your character sheet. I will also give a little more information on the role play. For example it will not start with use boarding the train and going through the whole meet up and get used to bla bla bla. I have seen far to many role plays burn out before they even reach the first plot point. Instead This role play will begin the night the Goblet of Fire selects the teams. If you have any questions on this aspect or any other part please post it below and I will do my best to answer it clearly and quickly. Without anymore delay lets dive into this role play shall we?

The characters we will take on will be the team that will represent Hogwarts. We will all be sixth years which means we have already taken our O.W.L.’s and are on our way towards getting jobs in the field we are hoping to study for the next two years. It is my intention to have this role play begin small and work its way towards a larger scale. For now I am just seeing if there are a few people who would be interested. My hope would be a team made up of an equal balance of men and woman so at this time I am looking for one male character and two female characters. I would be taking on a character who is from Hufflepuff

Who

As said before the Hogwarts team will end up with one character from each of the four houses. This is not something that will have been planned out by the school, but instead another mystery as far as how the magical object known as the Goblet of Fire works. Along with our school there are others course others.

What

This role play will be specifically engineered so that our characters will begin at the school and after some time begin to expand outward and explore the magical world well beyond the book series parameters. I hope everyone will be excited about the extra focus it will have on the other magical communities as well.

When

Like it was said in the interest check this role play will take place roughly 15-20 years after the book series. I do understand that this could mean that a bunch of the cannon characters children might be going to school, but for now I am going to request that you just overlook that. As enough time has passed there will be no major characters from the book.

Where

As the England Ministry of Magic is the one charged with conducting this new format of the Triwizard Cup it was decided to hold the contest at Hogwarts again.

Extra Information

It will be important to inform everyone that I will be adding attitional schools to this plot. Instead of the Triwizard Cup only inviting one all girls school and one all boys school there will in fact be over five teams (The two schools Beauxbatons Academy of Magic & Durmstrang Institute have opted to apply as one group) This means that in total 6 schools will be coming to compete for the Triwizard Cup.

Personality

To the public Ryan can seem a bit lazy, but don’t let this fool you. His close friends will tell you that while it may seem like that deep down Ryan is indeed pretty lazy. It isn’t to say that he never does any work however. Instead it would seem like he only has a capacity to focus for so long before the object of his focus becomes boring. Being a teenager this is normal behavior and yet he seems to be a sort of pioneer in the field of being lethargic when it comes to school work. Once you take a step outside with him a somewhat different type of care freeness seems to take over. Instead of “Don’t worry I’ll do the paper later.” He will say things like “Don’t worry I’m sure it won’t kill us.” Ryan is also very similar to his father in his ability to be well spoken as well as sharing his love for history. Since both of his parents are outdoorsy he also has a joy in spending the day outside especially if the alternative is in a classroom or library.

History

Ryan was born into an almost completely muggle family. It wasn’t until some extensive genealogical searching that it was discovered that his great grandfather was in fact a wizard. Having almost no one to rely on as far as helping him or his parents prepare for what was in store it would be an understatement if you said his childhood was a bit chaotic. Even at an early age he seemed to cause unexplainable trouble. Some was minor things such as his baby toys floating about him like a () while others such as his first doctor’s appointment were a bit more troublesome.

Thankfully after the magical busts became a tad difficult to hid the Ministry of Magic elected to send an official to meet with the Strawton family and explain what was happening to their oldest son. The news that their son was a wizard was a real test for Ryan’s parents. Not because they were traditional or scared, but just the opposite. They jumped into the magical world with an enthusiasm that really helped make the transformation a lot easier. Having plenty of nights to look back and reflect it has become clear to Ryan that his parents were amazing for jumping head first and is thankful that it was how they reacted.

As he continued to grow up and learn more about the magical world Ryan found out about Hogwarts through his parents. Until his tenth birthday his mother and father had hid the fact that there was a witch and wizard school for their son could attend. Up till then he had been attending a normal muggle school and was enjoying it. Still his parents were slightly worried that if they send Ryan to Hogwarts they could lose their son to the world they can only glance at. After several arguments at night and plenty of crying the Strawton family left the decision to Ryan who opted to attend Hogwarts.

During his first several years at the famous school Ryan made a name for himself as a sort of odd ball. Not because he was acting weird, in fact he was very quick on picking up the magical worlds customs, but instead because he seemed to still hold onto many of his muggle life style practices. Instead of taking a fly around the school campus he would often take hikes. While he would practice the levitation spell in class he would carry his trunk to and from his room when needed. All in all Ryan really didn’t change all to the joy of his mother and father.

After his third year Ryan was approached by the History of the Magic Professor with an opportunity. As it turned out he had been selected by the professor for a chance to study abroad for a month in the summer with a magical expedition into central Asia. It took only a few words from his house advisor before his parents agreed and he was off to explore some of the oldest regions of the magical world. During his time he met several witches and wizards who worked as Magical Archeologists in a sense. While history was often their passion many of them were also pioneers and explorers. Contracted by the Ministry of Magic to venture out and explore uncharted or forgotten regions of the magical world.

When Ryan returned from his month of studying he knew what he wanted to work towards and it was becoming like the adults he had studied under that summer. It worked well with his strengths since a over arching knowledge of the magical world was needed. Ryan had kept up with his studies, and while his grades may not completely reflect it he is well read and smart enough to hold his own in a battle of wits. In his house and others there is a tinge of jealousy that with minimal work he still seems to get low B’s on his papers and class work.

After taking his OWL’s and scoring well on them he began to talk about his plans to return to school with his family. Now the oldest of three Ryan was starting to feel a little distant from his family as his life began to more and more get dragged over to the magical world. This past summer he had long talks with his dad about what the decision to go back to school meant for Ryan and his family. These talks always ended with his dad saying the same thing. “Ryan you are strong, smart, and thoughtful person. Albeit you are a teenager, but outside of that there are few flaws about you.” At this point Ryan’s dad would always laugh before he continued. “I want you to know that your mother and I love you very much. And the day we get upset at you for wanting to continue your education is the day we see hell freeze over.”

Now Ryan is back at Hogwarts with a clear goal and the means to achieve it. The only thing standing in his way is his roller coaster study habits and highly active social life. Still he left for the Hogwarts express with a new sense of energy and had no intention of letting the fear of the NEWT’s change him. He was good enough to study abroad and he was good enough to get what he wanted. So long as nothing unforeseen gets in his way this is a young man who is driven and on the right course.

Character Interaction

Rubikon – Abel Holguin

For awhile in his early years Ryan really didn’t have much interaction with Abel. He knew him though his brother who was a few years older, but only through conversation. It wasn’t until the two had care for magical creatures in his fourth year that the two actually shared a class and sort of knew who each other were. Ryan knew Abel from his beater status on his houses quidditch team while Abel knew Ryan as one of the more ‘muggle’ style students. Ryan knew Abel didn’t look down on Ryan for being muggle born, but he also knew that while still enjoying and learning magic, he also kept a firm grip on the goings of the muggle world. The two did several projects in Care for Magical Creatures and then in the fifth year had defense against the dark arts together.

The Monstah – Calliope Kingshire

Ryan and Calliope were in a similar group when they first arrived at Hogwarts. Both were somewhat lost and learning about magic while also being thrown into its world. Having transfiguration in their first and second year Ryan was slightly jealous of how quick she seemed to pick things up, but instead of resenting her talents took his mothers advice and approached Calliope for help. Soon enough Ryan was doing much better in his classes. To this day Calliope is a step above Ryan in magical talent; however, when they are together studying is rarely what they do. Instead it is often a conversation about the muggle world as they both come from it and are still very much in tune with it.

WeepingLiberty – Evangeline Winters

In third year potions class Ryan was partnered with Evangeline after both their respected groups had been partnered up by the professor. With Evangeline being diligent in class while Ryan enjoyed the pressure that came with procrastinating there was some friction in the partnership early on. Still they got along well enough to become friends and in fact dabbled in dating for a short while during their fifth year. It didn’t pan out and after a few they split on equal terms. One issue was Evangeline’s somewhat over protective brother who once gave Ryan a chocolate that would make him turn red if he told a lie to Evangeline. This was given to him with poor timing as Ryan was in the process of planning a surprise birthday party for Evangeline. Needless to say this caused a bit of drama.

Spooner – Jane Kuno

Over the past several years at Hogwarts Ryan had become well known in all four houses. It was hard not to be since everyone had attended for the past five years and were working on their sixth. That said Jane and Ryan have known each other since both of their second years. They first met during their second year broom riding test. For those interested in trying out for a house quidditch team you must first pass a test to show that you have acceptable talent to fly and not harm yourself or other players. Both Jane and Ryan passed and to celebrate everyone who passed had lunch together and became good friends. Since then the two have had many classes together and even a few close calls with adventures she dragged Ryan into. Or was it the other way around? Who knows it has happened enough times the two don’t keep count anymore.

Ryan looked forward with a bored look across his face. He had never really gotten the hang of the academic approach to Herbology. It wasn’t that the subject didn’t interest him; on the contrary between Herbology and Care for Magical Creatures he wasn’t completely sure which one was his favorite. He just didn’t always get why there had to be lectures in Herbology. Instead of being in the greenhouse surrounded by plants beyond normal humans imagination he was in a poorly lit classroom listening to the professor go on about what the class would focus on in the coming week.

When the lights blinked twice it signaled that class was finishing up and that the students were free to leave if they wished. Within a few minutes the class was empty save for one or two students who had questions for the professor. It was no surprise that Ryan was already out of the class and heading towards the great hall for an afternoon snack. Along with him were his two good friends Will and Brian. The three had been friends since the third year when Ryan really started to come out of his never seen anything magical wonderment and started to socialize more.

The three were good sports and all around well liked by people in all four houses thanks to their ability to calm a situation down while having a bit of fun at their own expense. Today was like most other days, save for the somewhat more crowded hallways. With the tournament announced and the students form all the different schools also attending Hogwarts courses there was need for more space. As if it knew this the entire school building grew not one, but two whole wings to the south side towards the lake. These wings were used to house some of the other schools as well as had plenty of classroom space.

“So what game are we thinking for today?” Brian asked the other two. It was a common tradition that the three would pose some sort of game which would be played. The stakes were often small like a drink on the next trip into Hogsmead, but recently the three have been starting to up the wagers. No doubt due to the extra energy the whole tournament was bringing. “Cause if you don’t have one I already thought of a good one.” Brian waited a few steps and after no one interrupted him he continued.

“In the afternoon we got separate classes from the looks of our schedule.” Brian smiled as he put an arm over Ryan’s shoulder. “So I figured how about a little letter passing? The last one to send a message UNDETECTED” Brian made sure that this word was emphasized before continuing. “Has to do something the other two agree on?” Ryan liked the task as it sounded fun. Devin also seemed to enjoy it as the group shook on the bet. “Alright suckers bring your worst.”

Several Hours Later

“It was out of my control!” Ryan said as he shook his head. The bet had gone south for him almost as soon as classes had started. He was thinking of charming a piece of paper he had folded into a paper airplane to search out the other two, but before he was even able to start he was called up by his professor to give a presentation. Needless to say he was interrupted by two messages from his friends. Brian had done a similar idea with the paper, only he had the thing smack Ryan right in the face. Will on the other hand turned the paper into a mouse and gave it the idea that Ryan was hiding some cheese in his bag.

Of course the professor was not all that happy with this and with a quick investigation found that Will and Brian were responsible which landed all three in a little bit of detention. Thankfully it was nothing more than a minor punishment as no points were deducted from their house points. Now the three were at dinner talking about the bet. It seemed Will and Brian was at odds on what they thought Ryan should do. In fact it wasn’t until later that night they came to him while serving their detention with their idea. “You got to put your name in Goblet of Fire.”

“No.” Ryan said flat out. He had no interest in going through that whole thing and even if he wasn’t sure if he would or wouldn’t be selected he didn’t like the idea of being on a team having to survive trials as well as worrying about getting his homework done. Most things weren’t a big deal to Ryan, but this was a bit out of his comfort zone. “Sorry guys not going to happen.” He then returned to the task at hand which was helping organize the library books which had been returned throughout the day. For several hours during detention the three continued to talk. Finally Ryan broke down and agreed.

“Fine, not like I am going to be picked anyways.” He said. So while the three made their way back to the Hufflepuff commons Ryan wrote his name on a slip of paper and threw it into the goblet. With only two people witnessing he looked back at his two friends and shrugged. “Alright it is done. And I am done with these games. Feels like I haven’t won in ages.” The two then reminded Ryan that the last time he won was in fact last year. “I hate you guys sometimes.” Ryan replied.

Night of the team selection

Up until that moment Ryan had been very happy. It was in that moment that Ryan felt the color wash from his face and his mind went completely blank. When he had heard the names of the people who were going to represent his school in the Triwizard Cup. All of them had excited faces and were people Ryan knew pretty well. The school cheered and some chanted as members of their house were selected. The grand hall had gone silent when it was time for the goblet to select the team leader. Most people, including Ryan, had figured the spot would go to someone in Griffendor or even Slytherin. A fool and his mouth would be the line Ryan would normally say, but that was impossible.

The first to start clapping and cheering were of course Will and Brian. The look on each of their faces made it look like they had won the lottery or something. Slowly the entire Hufflepuff table began to cheer and shout which slowly invaded into the other tables.

At this time I would have liked to have a group of character sheets ready to be reviewed; however, this is not completely possible at this time. The main reason being I didn't get enough character sheets. While all the character sheets I did get were acceptable I got three and all of them were for a female Ravenclaw character.

If possible I would like to discuss what the next move should be with those still interested. I am comfortable moving forward with some alterations (namely having each of the characters is from a different house.) But I want to open this problem to the public with the hopes that perhaps at least one or two other people might want to join and then allow for a more balanced team for the role play. Those that have already sent in a profile however will have first rights on claiming a spot in this role play. As of now you are all accepted. This includes the following...

So do any of you three have any concerns or ideas you wish to discuss? I would like to request that if possible one of you at least be willing to change your characters into a different house. You would not have to worry about being an outcast in the role play as the team will in fact end up living in a sort of mini dorm during the contest and that way interactions will be much easier to manage and start.

Ravenclaw fits my character so well, but I won't argue if she gets put in Gryffindor or, even, Hufflepuff.

I would of course let people alter their character sheets to better suit a different house. If you do not want to be put in Slytherin house I understand and would not force anyone into it.

Well I like Calliope the way she is. Perhaps it's simply her ambitions that might put her in Slytherin. Like I said, I'm open to alter her house. Not so much her personality, though.
