    Mistborn: An Interest Check!

More than three hundred years ago, the world ended.

    And thank Harmony it did.

But the death of the World of Ash isn't important anymore. The world is different, and its people, too, are different. Civilization has been rebuilt, not from the scorched bones of what came before, but planted anew in fertile fields. Our cities have prospered, our people have grown and we thrive. Science, technology, and society has evolved and grown to ever-greater heights. Sure, nothing's perfect, but progress has to be better than standing still, right? Electric lamps glow above our streets, trains thunder down railroads, and streetcars bump along avenues where you'll see more vehicles without horses than those with whip and harness.

But while the old world may be gone, it's left us with its legacy. Mistings, the Metal-Born, or a dozen different names; those individuals born with ability to change themselves or the world around them with a thought, they're still with us. Police officers, soldiers, artisans, and perhaps most often, criminals; they are uncommon, but often spectacular. Or maybe that's just what everyone thinks. I don't know. I'm not one of them. Those powers were born in the World of Ash, and they don't seem to be breeding out any time soon. And then there's the Mistborn, the nearly-mythical people who could face entire armies, guide nations, and see the past and future as one moment. Lots of people think the Mistborn helped build this world somehow. That they guided us with some kind of divine knowledge.

They say a lot of wild things about where we came from. I don't know that I believe any of it.

But something's happening now. Here in the city, things I can't explain. The kind of things that I wouldn't have believed last week, if I hadn't seen the blood on the street. Some people say it's a ghost from the time when the sun hung red in the sky and it was never more than twilight. A spirit from a darker, violent, vengeful past.

    I might believe that.

I hope I live long enough to decide.

    So!

I've got the idea to run an RP, and I'm choosing one of my favourite worlds to set it in.

This will take place in the world of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn novels, in particular a little bit after The Alloy of Law.

What does that mean to you if you haven't read the books? Nothing at all! And that's all right. I plan to more or less fully explain the world and its context in the actual OOC, so fear not. The short version is that we'll be looking at a fantasy world that's been allowed to grow. Magic and petrol engines? Who could say no? This isn't steampunk, clockpunk, or electropunk. You could call it "modern fantasy," except you'll be looking at technology roughly around the 1920s.

This will be formatted as a usual forum RP. I'm aware that there are Mistborn tabletop systems, and I think that's really great. However, dice are for tables, and this is not a table. There will be a more or less "standard" character sheet, and I'll expect you to be adults.

You, intrepid reader, need only decide whether or not you want to be part of a story (And yes, I have a story! A real one, not an open-ended drizzle. At least, I hope so.) with danger, mystery, a kind of magic, science, discovery, and plenty of character interaction. You'll be tasked with not only figuring out what's going on, but with stopping it, or at least making it go away. You might be saving the day; you might be saving the world.

The cast for this will, in all likelihood, be very small. I'd prefer three-four folks, but I'll be happy if I even get that many people interested.

Only read sample chapters of Alloy of Law, but I read the entire Mistborn Trilogy and I'm interested.

Well, that was refreshingly quick. I'll be making dinner here and then I'll get the OOC up by...hopefully this evening, might be tomorrow afternoon. But quickish!

More folks expressing interest is fine. Like I said, the cast will be small, but I will work out exactly how small after the OOC goes up.

I would like to express interest but am completely uneducated in any of this world/realms settings. I will wait for the OOC to go up so I can educate myself with the lore that you said you will provide.

I have a rough idea of a character as well but I will wait and see if it would fit inside this Roleplay before I commit anything to writing.

Well, I'm going to commit the OOC to being up tomorrow. I'm writing away, though! I hope that's within everyone's attention span.

That's fine for me. I'll work on a character once I have read all info in your OOC.
