Patrick Stewart has recently recounted the abuse his mother suffered under his father. The poor guy went through a lot, not just as a Star Fleet Captain, but as a little boy.

However in the comments section under the article where I read his words, someone else said:
"Even if a woman becomes physically abusive, it is still not acceptable to hit a woman."

What are people's feelings, comments, etcetera, over this statement?

The problem usually lies in the fact that men tend to be phyisically more imposing them their spouses. Not always, but most of the time. This lends to people thinking the man is in the wrong because he used said size/strenght to hurt soeone naturally more vurnable.
