Slave Roles

The complex is an elaborate network of constructions, rowing buildings of different size, shapes and purposes to each other, whereas the coliseum is probably the most popular attraction. The ever present sand stone color and the palm trees rowed along the streets are supposed to highlight the resort character this place represents. Architecturally oriented on Roman style insulae type buildings, the complex incorporates structures such as gardens, baths, lounges, houses of pleasures, an amphitheater and the Coliseum. Located on a mesa hovering over a large stream and surrounded by tall, stony mountains of the same yellow color, this technological marvel represents both the achievements in Anima powered engines, elevating an entire complex, as well as the dark side of human-Riga society; With the largest part of its inhabitants consisting of slaves, living to serve the flow of visitors and customers pouring through this small city day and night, the complex is both the country’s largest slave keep as well as its most visited amusement park. Apart from the slaves, there are a large number of supervisors, each commanding over the extensive and ever present guard force that closely watches over the two only exits this hovering island has.
The slaves in the complex are all compelled to wear a metal collar that marks them for what they are. These collars have different colors, pointing out the role they serve in the complex.
Servant:
Servants do, well, anything. From cleaning toilets and scrubbing dishes to running errands and wiping away hangover customers’ puke, they are the lowest of lowest among the slaves on the complex. Their collar is just as blandly grey as their social status and outlook in life. They are forced to live and sleep where they can, not calling any room or possessions their own. They are usually quite young, as the ones above twenty often break down.
Daughter of joy:
Daughters of Joy are to please the physical needs of the male clientele. So much for the euphemisms, I believe it is clear what their role is. The establishments they work in usually aren’t very high class, and the Daughters all live together in one room. They are normally below twenty; the ones older get thrown into the arena, where they usually die within their first month. They wear collars with an orange shade.
Gladiator:
Gladiators perform in the arena, fighting and trying to get in favor of the people. They are not necessarily all rough and tough; Gladiators are chosen at random among the child slaves. Ironically, the ones that live often live very long lives; If a gladiator catches the eye of the people, there is a chance for them to be granted freedom if they get famous enough. The Gladiators quarters are cells with up to three gladiators, located in the dungeons beneath the arena. Their collar is a bright red.
Intellectual:
The intellectuals’ role is to please the visitors’ intellectual cravings. They are trained to be well versed in philosophy, politics and theology and perform in the grand amphitheater and among smaller circles of scholars. They are compelled to debate and philosophize with their visitors, and are well regarded for their profound knowledge and deep insight. They have access to knowledge, in comparison to the other slaves, and are the only slaves granted access to the large library, wherein also their quarters lie. They wear collars of a leaf green shade.
Performer:
Performers are slaves meant to entertain visitors with their artistic skills; This can be anything from playing music and performing dances, to showing off card tricks or doing highly dangerous circus stunts. Performers often display a specific skill set due to which they were chosen for this role. Their quarters are located near the amphitheater and the circus, several people usually living in one room. Their collars are a dark purple.
Mistress:
Mistresses are comparable to the Geishas in medieval Japan. They are hosts in the more extravagant lounges, existing to serve their customers pleasure, wherein intercourse is strictly forbidden. They fill up cups, perform dances and please the customers’ ego through light hearted banter and his eye through their modestly revealing clothes. Among the slaves, they are regarded as the most high class and are allowed to move about the complex freely on their downtime, even when not running an errand. They sport collars in a royal blue, with a lapis lazuli stone embedded in the front. Their quarters, usually located close to the establishment they work in, are comparably luxurious, as they each have a small room for themselves where they have a bed and are allowed to keep small possessions.
Butlers:
Butlers fulfill a role similar to the male equivalent of the Mistress’. They serve in restaurants and lounges, wearing extravagant clothes, and while they don’t represent the same stimulating role a Mistress does, they are giving the upper class lounges a sense of royalty and class. Their collar is a dark red with a ruby stone. Like the Mistress’, they have their own rooms.
These are the roles I thought of so far. If you have ideas of your own that fit the setting just write them down and send them to me, I’m open for good ideas. If you have any questions about the complex or any of the roles, just ask! Bear in mind that these roles will only play a direct role in the first chapter/the prologue. They mainly serve to give an idea off what your characters’ skills are and what they have learned so far. At first, I only wanted to let everyone be a Gladiator, and the complex was just a coliseum, but then I had this horrible vision of a group solely consisting of huge, muscle teeming brutes, so I decided to elaborate on the slaves roles. Anyway, have fun creating your character, I’m looking forward to hearing about them.
