Phoebe is a relatively bright girl and she is an idealist. She believes that purebloods will ease up on muggles when they realize their ingenuity and she is sure that muggles will eventually warm up to the idea of magic. She is trusting of others because she assumes that everyone has the ability to see the just decision in a situation. However, she does possess a desire to prove to the other wizards and witches that being raised by a muggle doesn't make her incapable of greatness. Phoebe wouldn't want to hurt anyone to prove her point, but sometimes her ideals and sense of pride can put her at odds what others consider the proper and wise thing to do.
Background:
She is a half-blood, her mother being a pureblood and her father being a muggle. Her mother died when Phoebe was only four years old and the Alders (her pureblooded family) all offered to take her in. Robert, her father, decided he couldn't part with her and he wanted to raise her on his own, even though he knew he couldn't help her at all when it came to magic. Phoebe was brought up in a muggle community but she was constantly visited by her aunts, uncles and cousins, so she knew about magic and what she could eventually do. She denied the request of her family to go under the name Alder when dealing with the wizarding community because she didn't want to be treated differently and take advantage of her mother's standing.

Put very simply, Rhett is polite. Everything is “yes, sir” or “no, ma’am” with her. She will also very rarely tell you no if you ask her for a favor. Needless to say, she spends more time doing other students’ homework than she does making friends. She is a hard worker who earns good marks, and in many cases, she is considered a bit of a “teachers pet.” She has never gotten into any sort of trouble. Fighting is not exactly her style.
Background:
Rhett is the youngest of three. She has two older brothers (twins), who both attended this same school. They, however, graduated while she was only in her second year. She grew up in a small town in the state of Louisiana, on a farm that has been in her family for generations. The notion that hard-work and magic can go hand-in-hand has been in her family for just as long. She spent many hours mucking out stalls, working in the fields, pitching hay and training horses. She has always had a special knack for working with horses, though she has never fully understood why.

Background:
He grew up without a mother, though his father always tells him stories about her. She was a witch from a well-to-do family, but was tragically killed when Felipe was only a toddler. His father, a jokester, never let the death affect the family entirely, though. Whenever it would begin to weigh on his mind, he would crack a joke and make everything seem like it was fine again. Felipe can't say that he had a terrible childhood even though he lost his mother. He's very proud of where he comes from, and hopes to make his name big someday.

Violet is slightly misanthropic and prefers sticking her nose in books to actually dealing with people. (She has friends, but it's only a very small few, all of whom she's fiercely loyal to.) Seen as being somewhat aloof and generally on the quiet side, Violet does well in her studies and mostly keeps her thoughts to herself. While she's not one to unnecessarily ripple the waters, she has absolutely no qualms about putting people in their place who deserve it. Violet will almost invariably deflect questions about her private life and her family (having picked up on her father's shame of having a Squib in the family), which adds to the somewhat unapproachable air she typically cultivates; she would rather be seen as a bit of an intimidating puzzle than give anyone the opportunity to look down on her for any reason. Prideful and somewhat vain, Violet is also quite ambitious and not above doing things that are slightly underhanded to achieve her goals. (Such methods are usually only taken as a last resort, though.) Her only real 'soft spot' is for animals, which is largely due to the lingering childhood guilt of having once made her family pet vanish.. never to be seen again.
Background:
Violet's Mother was a Witch, her father was a Squib (though he usually pretends/tells people he is a muggle, simply out of shame - a lie that goes largely undetected as 'Peters' is a common name and neither parent came from prominent wizarding families). Since her parents weren't sure which side of the family Violet would take after, they decided to raise her as a muggle child, keeping all things 'magic' out of sight until they could be sure one way or another as to her 'gifts' (or lack thereof). At the age of seven, the question was ultimately answered when Violet 'accidentally' made the family cat disappear before her parents eyes. (It had unintentionally scratched her, which had upset the little girl.) After that point, Violet's mother began tutoring her in magic and preparing her daughter for the day when her Hogwarts letter would ultimately arrive.
