    IC-THREAD

Focus of the RP is not to lose ourselves in game mechanics, instead this is a game of logic, reason and collaborative writing. Our goal is not to have an overly competitive game, but to immerse into a nice creative experience for all parties. We write a story with each other, not against each other.

Generally, players will either pick up a canon house or create their own house and roleplay with several members of it. This means each player is entitled to several characters per house. However, they do not all have to be members of said house by ties of blood. Instead you can use several types of characters as points of views.

Naturally there are other options in the world of Westeros, such as Septons, hedge knights, spies and spymasters, mercenaries, merchants from across the Narrow Sea, and many more. Additionally, as spots fill up or the need arises, players are allowed to play as more than one house or take over a fallen one.

    OOC Rules and Guidelines:

    • The current GMs are Vanquished, Ruby and myself. Feel free to contact us whenever should you require assistance or information. Our Maesters are diligent tenders of ravens.
    • Advanced standards; common sense approach; game of logic and collaboration.
    • Character Sheets should be posted on the OOC (though they can be sent via pm as well) for approval/disapproval. Not all decisions will be made public.
    • You are assumed to be an adult by submitting a character for this game; please act like one.
    • Players playing Great Lords will have the chance to weigh in on applications for Minor Lords under their Great Lord.
    • Applications may take a few days before a decision can be made. Generally issues will be resolved over pm.
    • Players are encouraged to play typically one-on-one scenarios, large battle scenarios, cloak-and-dagger scenarios, small plots and large plots. To be creative, and to interactive with their fellow players on their own to plot. Take initiative.
    • Players are allowed to play as more than one house, however preferably not in the same territory or region. It would also not be allowed if players wished to take up more than one Great House.
    • House Targaryen is currently being held for storytelling purposes, though if you have an idea or request, run it by.

    IC information:
The year is 141 after Aegon’s Landing and King Aegon, third of his name, sits on the Iron Throne. Though the Dance of Dragons ended in the crowning of a single king and reconciliation of both sides by marrying the daughter of Aegon II. Still, the scars of the massive conflict remain. Aegon’s rule is strained by the fact he is only twenty-one and just entering into manhood.

The Lords of Westeros have kept the peace more so out of necessity than will, though ever since Aegon’s coming of age four years ago, there has been an increase in control and influence that the Iron Throne exerts over six of the Seven Kingdoms. Several troublesome lords have been brought in line and hear the young voice of King Aegon III.

With the power of the dragons broken, House Targaryen has had to look elsewhere for a means to stay in power and it has become more than evident that with the last true dragon gone, the balance of things has shifted considerably.

However, Aegon seems intent on re-establishing Targaryen supremacy over Westeros by any means necessary. Will the High Lords respond loyally to his efforts? Or have the years of low regal authority fanned the embers of independence?

    Words are wind.

    OOC information:

The lords and ladies of Westeros have enjoyed much freedom in the past decade while Aegon was being kept well guarded and protected in the Red Keep. The remaining dragons are small, deformed and sickly and do not tend to live for much longer than a dozen years. The pitiful creatures can only produce moderate fire and seem unable to take to the air for long periods of time.

The Realm suffered great losses during the civil war and ever since the coronation of Aegon III, people have worked to rebuild. Now, the Kingdoms are comparably of the same strength and prosperity as before the great conflict.

This takes place way before any of the books (and series adaptation). As such you would need to check for canon information on the wiki. Though many things are the same as they are in the timeline of the books, there can be slight differences. For example: Dorne is not subjugated to the Iron Throne. The Reynes of Castamere, Tarbecks of Tarbeck Hall and Darkly of Duskendale are still around.

    Westeros, The Crownlands, Blackwater Rush

The royal galley, Sea Dragon, cleaved the dark waters of the Blackwater Rush downstream, the froth made by the impressive ship extended from both sides like long wings. Though the name of the vessel might have been chosen without much originality in mind, it was in fact a good indicator of Aegon III’s intended rule; simple, strict, strong. The ship itself was made of solid wood from the Stormlands, designed by a Braavosi-Westerosi partnership, for Aegon had ordered his flagship to be built with both strength and grace in mind.

As such, the galley counted two hundred and fifty oars with three main sails of black with the red dragon on them. It was not the biggest ship in the fleet, but it was the most recognisable one. For the prow was the shape of a roaring dragon’s head, its claws of steel extended to function as a ram. The sides of the ship were the dragon’s wings.

In the centre of it all stood the captain of the ship, a slightly nervous, eyeing his sailors closely in order to reprimand them immediately should they blunder in a moment of carelessness. However, his crew consisted of veteran seaman and mariners so he supposedly had nothing to worry about. Save for the fact he was flanked by two men dressed in maidenly white and one tall figure dressed entirely in black with a few golden accentuations.

Captain Aleon, born of a union between a Braavosi and a King’s Landing whore, had gone far in life indeed. He owed it to his skill as a captain, but mostly to the stern man standing beside him. After all, what good is skill if the world does not recognise it as such?

“When will we be back in King’s Landing?”

Aleon always thought the same whenever his master spoke. His voice was that of a young man, forced into adulthood far before his time. No wonder, if your entire youth revolves around the most gruesome civil war Westeros had ever seen. “Two days, Your Grace. Did you not like your visit to Stoney Sept?”

The royal fellowship had left the walled town three days ago, after King Aegon III had received several of the Riverlords as his guests for his stay at Stoney Sept. The visit had been undertaken by the king in order to acquaint the traditionally uppity lords of the Riverlands with the fact he was no longer a boy. During the regency, Aegon had been kept largely out of public life for his own safety while he was educated and taught that kingship is a duty. However, much to his own dismay, this had left him with an unpopular reputation by both the common folk and the noble houses.

The past year, King Aegon had worked hard to show Westeros his face. He had to make the Realm see that he was their king, and bring those who would defy him back in line. His subjects and vassals needed to be reminded that there was a king on the Iron Throne. He ruled now, formally from King’s Landing, though during the past ten months he had spent more time on the road touring his demesne than stay put. In fact, his court had gotten quite used to being on the move most of the time.

“The town was calm enough, the Riverlords accommodating though slightly bristling. However, there are matters demanding my personal attention.”

    “There always are, Your Grace.”

Aegon put his hands behind his back, grabbing his right wrist with his left pale hand. His purpure eyes, distinctly marking him of House Targaryen, fixed on the horizon, as if Aegon could will the capital to move. Aleon knew well the effect of that gaze on others, for himself it felt as if he was being burned by coldfire. The king took a deep breath and sighed, his shoulders slumped a little. “As you say, Captain.”

Captain Aleon had a feeling Aegon’s reign and resolve would be tested in the near future. You had to be realistic about these things, is what his father had always said.

    House Tarbeck of Tarbeck Hall

    Words:

    Members of the house

    Name: Lord Cleos Tarbeck

    Age: 78

    Appearance:

    Personality:
Lord Cleos is a ruthless and somewhat proud old man who is well past the prime of his life. Still he soldiers on and clings to his power with an iron grip that while more brittle than it once was, is more than enough to hold his feuding brood of relatives in line. Lord Cleos was once a master of political maneuvering, though like in all things age has begun to chip away at the once very capable man and reduce him to some degree. He retains the instincts that once made him successful but now they have been polluted to an increasing degree by his lusts and desires of all kinds. Firstly Lord Cleos is to put it simply a lecher of an extraordinary level and there is rarely a case where he has passed on the opportunity to indulge his prodigious appetites. Secondly Lord Cleos is very fond of spirits and frequently imbibes far greater amounts than it is strictly healthy or wise to do so. He has 28 children, 15 which were true born and 13 of which were bastards that he admits to having fathered.

Biography: The tale of Lord Cleos up until this day is a very long and in truth rather boring affair in many respects, however it is my duty to tell it. Cleos Tarbeck was born a full 78 years ago as the eldest child of the previous lord Tarbeck. Even from the beginning of his life the man was always a schemer, quick to take advantage of situations and as a child quick to discover all the ways that he could boss around and manipulate the smallfolk and lesser lords who served under his family. In truth he was quite unpleasant to deal with then, and while he has certainly matured since his childhood days the manipulative instinct has never left him. He was educated in the manner of all heirs to noble houses, learning of combat with various weaponry, the laws that he would one day need to use to govern those whom he ruled over, and many other things that were deemed necessary for one who would be a powerful lord in the future. He excelled greatly in his studies, at least until he reached his teenage years and discovered a certain compulsion that has never left him. Cleos Tarbeck was 13 when he managed to father his first bastard child, and naturally this attracted the attention of his parents who swept the issue under the rug at least temporarily and did manage to impress upon Cleos the need to be a bit more discreet, at least for a while.

Cleos was able to avoid any further incidents that were quite so controversial for several years and his parents were very quick to find him a suitable, if early marriage in hopes that it would prevent any further incidents from occurring.

Queen Visenya, Second of her Name
    Visenya Reborn

    Personality:
Two sides to the same golden coin. The first side, one of a sweet and even innocent woman. Childish in many ways as if this personality never truly matured. This is a side of Visenya who seeks to please and receive praise for a job well done. Caring and benevolent to any who speak to her she is easily manipulated and used when in this state.
The maesters have been unable to find a definitive spark to the change that can occur, however. At times there seems no needed cause although there has been a noted trend at the mention of dragons or the civil war that caused the death of her father among many other Targaryen deaths. Visenya, when this personality rears its head, believes herself to be the Visenya, Reborn. She shows the deluded belief to a powerful warrior, donning chainmail in lieu of her courtly gowns. She calls for a dragon to be prepared for riding so that she may punish those who even think ill thoughts upon her husband and house. This too, rather unfortunately, is the part of her that seems to have matured from girl to woman. Visenya Reborn shows signs of political know-how that is often disregarded for her violent rages. Others step lightly when this persona overcomes her.
Visenya never remembers things she has done or said from the other personality. From lashing rage as Visenya Reborn, to the secluded depression of Visenya II when such anomalies are pointed out, few wish to speak of the disparities.
In short, Visenya is mad, terrifyingly so.

    History:

The eldest daughter of Aegon II, she was but a child of ten or eleven when the Dance of the Dragons threatened to extinguish the family line. It is perhaps also during this time, that Visenya first showed signs of insanity, or perhaps the spark that fanned the flames of it. As not only but a child, but also a daughter, she had no place in the fighting that consumed her relations and the land. Largely not understanding of the issues at hand she could not grasp why her aunt fought the rightful King for power. The woman's death in the maw of her father's dragon was witnessed in secret, but her desire for riding a dragon into war began, a fascination that would envelop her life.

Only an adolescent of fourteen name-days when the brutal war was ended with her own father's death. Visenya was left unaware of her role in the healing of a divided kingdom until she was wed to the young, twelve year old boy, who now sat her father's throne. It was explained to her only as she was prepared for the service, though she took it far better than any had thought possible. With Aegon III taking her father's throne, the entire war was pointless. With Visenya, now already believing herself to be Reborn, marrying the attempted usurper's blood, she would heal wounds left. Though she did not rain fire and death, she found herself with a key role to play. It suited the childish fancies she still held.

Their marriage consummated, Visenya did not see her husband often over the following years, it is only more recently, both now having entered their more adult years, that Visenya has spent more time with the man the boy she married became. The years spent in tutelage and training however, did not cause her madness to dissipate. Instead, it was fermented. It is likely she was kept from her husband for this very reason, but a crown demands an heir, and eventually she would need to be released back into the folds of the crown.

It is relatively unknown outside of King's Landing and the Red Keep just how limited her contact is kept-or attempted to be kept. Visenya is viewed as a barrel of wildfire, and more than one wish she had not been the one used to mend the wounds left behind by the civil war. Visenya is aware of these feelings and has become slightly more adept at hiding her thoughts and actions others find so maddening. It is a madness that has a mind of its own however, and one she does not truly understand to be madness except that others view it that way.

Most recently she has begun rather vocally calling for dragons to be found for her, going so far as to offer a high reward for any man who brings her a live and healthy dragon as her husband seems incapable of providing for her. Not all her offers have been squashed by peripheral members of the Throne.

Name: Viserys Targaryen (Second of his name)
    Age: 20
    House/Affiliation: House Targaryen
    Personality:

Viserys is a rogue tempered by the realities of life, as the second child of a woman who may not have even inherited the throne, Viserys was not groomed for command but found himself there anyway. In this way he has a somewhat conflicted personality, flippant and jovial in regards to personal matters, while severe and dedicated in regards to matters of state and family. Unlike many of his family, he has few disillusions of grandeur and even less of an assumption to rule, any authority he wields is self-made, working as both a diplomat and enforcer for his shattered family, despite his age already having a reputation as a wise and pragmatic leader, and one rather more in touch with those beneath him than his relatives.

    Appearance:

Viserys is what one would consider handsome, if somewhat rugged, for one of High Valyrian descent. Having lived largely on the run (during the Dance of Dragons) for most of his childhood, Viserys has little of the soft features of nobility, instead bearing a frame well muscled from combat and a weariness and wisdom to his eyes that belies his outward youthfulness.

    History:

Despite being the second son of Rhaenyra and the brother of the current King, Viserys holds little resemblance to either of them, having no dedicated parent to pander him both with either wealth or moral support, instead growing up with various supporters of his mother's claim. While this may have left him cut off from the comforts his mother enjoyed throughout her life and just the general parenting going the way of his brother, this life equipped Viserys for power far better than previous Targaryens, a dynasty he now battles to protect.

As a royal child during the Dance of Dragons, Viserys personally witnessed the power of dragons and how devastating the influence his bloodline possessed could be when grasped by the wrong people, personally having nothing but the most basic of sympathies towards his mother's cause, although, even less for that of his late uncle. Despite this, his location remained hidden from Aegon II's supporters, so much so that he was not present at the execution of his mother, even though Aegon fully intended him to be, not that the death of a hypothetical, far off mother meant much to the young Prince, whom was instead fully in the care of a long string of noble houses. With the resolution of the civil war the young prince was, for the first time, united with his family, although fitting in with little difficulty, as a now naturally gregarious youth, he was still somewhat isolated, at first treated as little more than an honored guest of merely noble bloodline. Even so, he began to grow closer to his brother, if only down to the fact as he grew older her realized that if the Targaryen's were to maintain control, his brother would need his aid, particularly as he continued to grieve for his mother's horrendous death.

Despite barely being considered a man, Viserys led several small scale conflicts against both rebellious lords and bandits whom grew too proud or numerous to be ignored, even once being a part of an expedition to the Summer Isles as a preemptive strike against a building threat. Having hoped that the state of both his brother and court would have improved without him constantly present to guide them, Viserys grew deeply frustrated as his brother seemed to slip even further into grief, such that Viserys resolved to not flout his place at court again, resolving instead to build power bases and strengthen his dynasty, taking on the part of the ruler rather than the expendable heir which he truly was. This has continued for several years to the present day, particularly as he begins to communicate further with those houses which sheltered him during the Dance, hoping that a more personal relationship will on further loyalties, in the case that the Targaryens need the support of their allies in re-enforcing the rights as Sovereigns.

    House Howle

    Words: The Call rings out,
    The men are needed
    Ride, Charge, Fight
    The Call must be heeded

History: The Howle family began its rise to notoriety in the year 1 AL as hedge knights fighting for Aegon Targaryen in The War of Conquest. Upon the completion of Aegon’s victory he knighted Eamonn Howle I, and praised him for his valor and bravery. From that point on the Howle family continued its tradition as a knightly house, fighting for the throne, for Westeros, and for the Targaryens.

Always standing by the Targaryens, at times they earned a harsh reputation. Much of their reputation was hurt during the time of The Faith Militant. The Howle family stood beside Maegor as he continued his fight against the militant. Always loyal and true, they never questioned their orders. For this loyalty, the Howle family was rewarded with an increase in their demesne size, and the titles of Lordship to accompany it.

However when the Dance of Dragons began, the then Lord Peter Howle II decided that the best choice for all of Westeros was not Aegon II, but was Rhaenyra’s son Aegon III. They instead decided to side with Rhaenyra. The Howle family took a beating during the Dance of Dragons, and lost many family members and levies.

Following Aegon III’s crowning, Aegon sought to reward the Howle family for their support, and Lord Peter Howle II’s first born son, Robynn Howle was titled as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. While not the wealthiest or most influential, the Howle family remains strong, valorous, and courageous. It holds it’s knights to the same values and tries its hardest to be a maintain discipline in a chaotic world.

However it is also important to note that Lord Peter Howle does have a bastard child, chastity is not a pillar what they believe must be established in order to be a good knight. Heavy drinking and lusty behavior is encouraged in order to keep up moral.

    House Mormont

    House Mormont
    Of Bear Island

    “Here We Stand”

    Bear Island

Bear Island is a remote island in the North that is home to House Mormont. It lies within the Bay of Ice.

The hall of the Mormonts is built of huge logs and surrounded by an earthen palisade. Aside from a few crofters, the inhabitants of Bear Island live along the coasts and fish the seas. On the gate there is a carving of a woman in a bearskin with a babe suckling at her breast in one arm and a battleaxe in the other.

Before the ironmen conquered the island, it was ruled by House Woodfoot. Because of this the coat of arms of the house ruling the Ironborn at that time has a green tree in the 2nd quarter as a reference to their possession of Bear Island. The island became part of the North during the reign of Rodrik Stark, supposedly as a result of a wrestling match. Rodrik Stark then gave the island to House Mormont.

In days past, the ironmen or wildlings from the Frozen Shore would raid Bear Island and the men would be fishing out to sea. The women would defend the island while the men were away. This created a warrior culture even among the women.

    Lord Donthan Mormont

Appearance: A stocky, strong man standing at an imposing 6'04", Lord Mormont greatly resembles the bear that adorns his family sigil. He has a rounder face with a strong jaw and piercing pale blue eyes. His silvery white hair was once as dark as his sons', and is cut short, giving him a proper, well-ordered appearance. His thick mustache remains a contrast to the rest of his hair, still retaining much of its dark brown hue. He maintains a good physique, as life on Bear Island is hard and everyone must do their part, even the ruling family.

    Age: 56

Personality: A generally blunt and opinionated man, Lord Mormont is not a man to mince words or resort to euthanisms to soften his points. He is a devoted family man, and the more personal side of him reveals a kind, thoughtful soul that puts his people's needs first and a waryness about committing what few men he can summon to a war when they are needed at home. However, he is a cunning tactician and he makes good use of the limited men and resources his house has at its disposal, bringing a skill to battle that often makes up for the relatively few 800 men he can call upon to war. He is a strong man with great endurance, wielding his family's ancestral Valyarian steel blade Longclaw to great effect. Outside of battle, he is a likable man and a true friend with a long memory for good deeds, and he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty when work needs to be done.

Biography: Born to Lord Rodrik Mormont and Lady Alayn Mormont in 85 AL, Donthan Mormont was the only child to the young lord and lady, as Lady Alayn contracted a fatal bought of dysentery from contaminated water only a few years after Donthan was born. This left a grieving Lord Rodrik to raise young Donthan alone, and the man refused to remarry. It was likely due to the closeness of his relationship with his father that gave the young boy his strong family orientation, and while the young Mormont no doubt missed his mother, the young age at which her early death happened had shaped Alayn Mormont as a spiritual figure in Donthan’s mind, where he would often visit her grave to seek console and to inform his mother of the events that were transpiring around Bear Island and beyond.

Even at a young age, Donthan Mormont carried an air of seriousness and showed the signs of the lord he would eventually become, learning politics and the art of warfare at his father’s knee as well as taking heavy responsibilities at an early age. Bear Island was an isolated, vulnerable place that was under constant threat of ironborn reavers and wildlings from the Northern shores of the Bay of Ice. There was not much time for youth in a cold island such as this, and the Stark words applied here perhaps even more so than most of the other Northern holds. Winter was an incredibly harsh time on Bear Island, and no week would go by without some poor soul passing from the world due to exposure or famine. While the Hall of the Mormonts was as comfortable as any place on Bear Island, it was still a fortress made of logs that lacked many of the comforts that the great castles of Winterfell and even the Dreadfort held. The winter would go on to claim Rodrik Mormont as the lord was caught in a blizzard and unable to find shelter before night settled during a hunt, leaving young Donthan the lord of Bear Island. It would over a week before a search party would be able to find Rodrik’s remains, which were preserved until the warmth of spring allowed the people to give their lord a proper burial next to his wife.

As so, Lord Donthan would find himself in the ruling position on Bear Island and responsible for his people's welfare, as well as building a report with the other Northern Lords, especially the Starks. He found an unexpected friendship in Lord Manderly of White Harbor as the two houses were joined through an arranged marriage between the new Lord of Bear Island and one of Lord Manderly's cousins. Although he was uncertain of the woman he was to wed, he was devoted to her and to ensure it that their marriage would be a loving one, and not just a cold political necessity. Fortunately for both Donthan and Lyana, they found much to admire with each other and their houses had remained close ever since.

Lord Mormont had spent the next several years ruling his people with a fair mind and a just hand, much like his father had done. Unlike more divided holds, Bear Island was a small community with a simple, isolated existance. Political intrige and ambition were distant, secondary concerns for the small, poor house when compared to feeding the population and fending off raiders. When it came time to raise children, Donthan became a devoted father and had several good years to shape them into proper Mormonts before being called upon to march to war, taking his oldest son with him to fight the North's enemies. It would be a trial by fire for both Mormont men, as it was the first time either had been called to fight by their lord. Both came back accomplished veterans, and Lord Mormont hoped it would be the last time the realm was caught in such turmoil in his lifetime. However, he has always been a practical man, and knows that the growing disord in the South may once again bring war to the North. The Lord can only hope that cooler heads prevail, but he is prepared to uphold his oaths if no other option remains but to return to the fields of battle.

Notes: A fierce family man, carries Longclaw. Long-time friend of Lord Manderly. Firm believer in individual responsibility and duty, and due to ironborn and wildling threats, doesn’t adhere to strict gender roles. He generally does not concern himself with the politics of the realm, feeling that the concerns of Bear Island are more immediate than the squabbling of lords hundreds of leagues away. While a loyal banner man of Lord Stark and holding cordial relationship with most Northern Lords, he is inclined to try to find means of discouraging Lord Stark from war unless all other alternatives are exhausted. It is not from a sense of cowardice, but rather the fear of leaving his family unprotected from threats few other Lords understand.

-Born 85AL (56 years old), was 44 during the time of the dance of the dragons. (Had Jored at 27, Aerik at 30, and Daely at 39)

    Lady Lyana Mormont

Appearance: Once a great beauty, age has not diminished Lyana Mormont's comely appearance. With sharp cheek bones, full lips, a symetrical face, and alluring blue eyes, she looks every bit the image of a desirable noble woman even given her age of forty and eight. Her wavy brown hair is always kept neat and tied out of the way, giving her face a predominant appearance. She stands at an average 5'07" and carries a straight posture and a graceful, even gait.

Personality: Stern and proper are two words that describe Lady Mormont, and she is a woman who is insitant in retaining much of her upbringing as possible, putting her at odds with the culture of Bear Island when it comes to what is expected of women. She is well-learned and quite intelligent, as well as insistent in making her voice heard even if her views on how to raise her children sometimes bring her into conflict with her Lord husband. She has adapted well to her adopted home and is a good mother, if somewhat overbearing towards her only daughter. Despite her position as the Lady of a minor house, she is a woman who commands respect

Biography: Born in White Harbor as Lyana Manderly and the older sister of Merwyn Manderly, Lady Lyana grew up living a typical and particularily uneventful life that was typical of a high-born lady of the North. However, at ten and seven, she was wed to Donthan Mormont, who had recently become the Lord of Bear Island, to strengthen ties between the Northern holds under recommendation of the Starks. While understandably nervous and somewhat afraid of being given away to some strange Lord, isolated far to the West, she had been raised to prepare for such an event her whole life. To Lyana's relief, Lord Mormont was a kind and gentle man who was almost as nervous about the marriage as she was. While she was not thrilled with her new home, having come from a well protected and busy port hold to a rural, quiet one where the great hall was made of great lengths of log and stone.
While she eventually grew fond of her new home, she always held White Harbor close to her heart and all but ensured that the Mormonts would make the journey out East to Lyana's home with a scarce regularity.

Not long after Lyana wed Donthan, she carried her first child and brought Jored into the world, forever cementing her legacy to Bear Island. They would go on to raise three children in relative peace and contentment, despite the harsh winters, before Donthan and Jored rode off to war during the Dance of Dragons in response to Lord Stark's summons. During this time, Lyana ruled over Bear Island, with Aerik acting as Lord until his father's return. While it was certainly a time of uncertainty, Lyana took a far more active role with her two remaining children and set about to preparing them to rule incase the worst should happen to their father and brother. To the family's good fortune, both Mormonts returned, along with most of their men. Since Donthan and Jored returned, the Mormonts have known a time of peace and have actively been maintaining relations with the other houses in the North. While Lyana has different desires for her children than her lord husband, they remain unified in the uncertain days ahead as the realm begins to descend into turmoil once more.

Notes: A firm but kindly woman who is sometimes at odds with Donthan over what’s expected of the women of house Mormont, her preferring a more lady-like and proper deportment over the tough warrior woman image that is common to bear island. While she is more than capable of defending herself, she more often is found in simple dresses, neat hair, and a dagger at her hip as a concession to her husband’s insistence that she needs to be strong should he and their sons be away and Bear Island comes under attack.

-Born 91AL (48 years old) (Had Jored at 19, Aerik at 22, Daely at 31 years old)

Jored Mormont, Heir to Bear Island

    Appearance:
An imposing figure, Jored stands at 6'02" and carries a heavily muscled frame, shaped by his rigorous training in arms and battle. Most of his face is concealed by a full, trimmed beard and his long, messy hair gives him an appearance that would remind people more of a wildling than a noble born man. He has earned his fair share of scars, given the enthusiasm in which he throws himself into fights. He is seldom seen smiling, and his blue-eyed gaze is often discribed as unsettling.

Personality: A serious, often humourless man, Jored has been saddled with responsibility since youth and lives in constant knowledge that should anything happen to his father, the responsibilities of ruling Bear Island will fall to him. Typically a man of few words, he says what needs to be said, and little more, unless he is prompted into a conversation, usually when his family visit other lords. He carries himself well and cares deeply for his family and the people of Bear Island, and he is a loyal man to his liege lord in Winterfell. He is fearless in battle and often forgets how to simply enjoy life. It has been known to give him a short temper and he is a fearful man when roused, but he is well in control of himself. In battle, he carries a mace and shield and wears heavy, well-forged armour that make him a truly fierce and terrifying presence on a battlefield.

Biography: Jored’s earliest memories are of the harsh winter that had gripped Bear Island in his youth, and even then had gripped the youth with hunger and fear. While the family was blessed to have made it through without loss, many on the island were not so lucky. The spring brought relief, but also it highlighted the tragedy winter brought. Jored had witnessed far too much death too early, and what chances he had at a carefree, light childhood was gone with the funeral pyres and the all too few graves that were dug when winter finally ended. Bear Island was a close community, and many of the fallen were people that Jored had seen, and more than a few he had known personally. The coming of spring was a relief, but it was bittersweet.

Through his youth, Jored received an education befitting a noble-born boy and trained frequently by the master-at-arms, and as a result, it was clear by his tenth name day that he was going to grow into a capable, powerful man. He always held a good relationship with his younger brother and sister, although he was overprotective in the way older brothers often are. He dedicated himself to his studies and training, and found little time for play. His overly serious disposition was at odds with carefree Aerik and quiet Daely, but despite the difference in their temperaments, the three siblings remained close and there was a minimum of feuding between them growing up. One of the only times Jored had remained apart from his siblings was during the Dance of Dragons, where he accompanied his father to answer Lord Stark's summons. The experience had given the heir an appreciation for organized warfare as well as a respect for the lords that serve the realm. Jored had earned a reputation as a capable leader in combat, as well as a fierce warrior.

Although Lord Mormont generally kept apart from the affairs of the Seven Kingdoms when possible, his House would make trips to the keeps of other Northern lords and the Mormonts remained an ever-present show at tourneys. Jored and Aerik both took their skills at arms to the tourneys, Jored in particular favouring melees where his heavy armour and immense strength won him the affections of many people. A particular edge he carried over many of his opponents was his experience in battle, earned from raiders from across the Bay of Ice to the North and the ironborn raiders who came in numbers to reave the fishing villages that sustained the island. He had felled a small handful of men before his first tourney, where he made a strong showing to the final five competitors before being forced to yield.

While still relatively young, Jored Mormont is proving to be a capable man and could, in theory, be ready to step into his father’s position when the time comes. He has proven popular with the people of Bear Island, as well as representing himself well among the Lords of the realm. While he still has much to experience and learn about the world, one could not ask for a truer friend and a loyal banner man. The young Bear remains one of the firmest supporters of the Starks and hopes the North will take full advantage of the discord among the Dragons.

Notes: A sturdy, serious man, Jored is as powerfully built as his family sigil would suggest. He wields a mace and shield, and his heavy armour with a helm in the shape of a bear’s head give him a fierce appearance to his foes and a sense of reassurance to his allies. He hates the ironborn with particular zeal, and his formidable strength is more than enough to buckle all but the most stout armour. He takes his responsibilities as heir to Bear Island seriously, and understands that his beloved father will not always be there to rule. His serious disposition and general lack of humour puts him at odds with his younger brother, Aerik, but he loves his family all the same and is as devoted to them as he is to the men-at-arms he has lead into battle more than once.

-Born 112 AL (29 years old)

    Aerik Mormont

Appearance: A lithe, handsome man, Aerik maintains a well-groomed appearance that seems to be at odds with his male relatives. He stands shorter than his father or brother at 5'11" and appears to be a much more approachable individual. His eyes are grey, a genetic trait shared with his grandfather. He does not have a particularly strong build, but it is doubtless better than many other nobles due to his active nature.

Personality: A charming, often witty man, Aerik Mormont stands in stark contrast to most of his family. He is plagued with a sense of wanderlust and is more often than not away from the Hall of the Mormonts, exploring the island. Often times, it would be days between his returns. He is described as a thinker and has an air of curiosity, a trait that no doubt has gotten him in trouble many times in the past. He is something of a thrill seeker and a lover of women, where he is quite promiscuous and he often courts women whenever his family is venturing out into the realm, whether to visit the older holds or to attend a tourney. He wishes to see most of the realm before duty saddles him with responsibilities that will inevitably force him to remain on Bear Island, and he is quietly envious of those born in rich castles and towns, where he enjoys being around people. Despite his apparent refusal to do what is expected of him, he can be relied on in times of need, as was demonstrated when his father and brother rode off to war and it fell to him to rule Bear Island, along with his mother. However, given his position of being second in line of succession, he does not feel the need to prepare himself for the responsibility of rule and alternatively is a source joy or embarrassment to his family, depending what, or who, he ends up getting himself into. He is skilled with a short sword and bow, and while a competent fighter, does not have the same talent for war as Jored does, nor the desire to fight.

Biography: While the long winter of the Mormont brother’s childhood shaped Jored into a serious, dutiful man, Aerik seemed to truly come alive in the spring that followed. Not old enough to really remember the worst of the winter, the lengthy spring and summer was a jubilant time in Aerik’s life and being removed from the responsibilities that come from ruling the House, much of Aerik’s childhood was spent exploring around the hold, climbing to the earthen palisade surrounding Mormont Hall, pretending to be a man of the Nights Watch and dueling with other boys first with sticks before graduating to wooden swords as they grew older. Closer to Daely than Jored, Aerik and his sister were often inseparable in youth and had retained a close, supportive relationship over their lives, where Aerik's lighthearted disposition brought much needed relief in the young girl's life.

Being second in line of succession, Aerik had grown accustomed to the idea that he'd never be the Lord of the House and having scoured most of Bear Island with retainers and friends, he had grown restless with the prospect of being trapped on the cold, rural island his entire life. Any opportunity to venture outside of Bear Island's shores was a gift from the Old Gods, and his approachable disposition and charming personality has won him the affections and friendship of many nobles across the North, and in some cases, the South. Preferring a lighter armour to Jored, Aerik was a quick and agile man with a fondness of short blades, riding horseback, and the bow. In tourneys, he will wear plate armour when jousting as a necessity, but typically he lives by the philosophy that you can't get killed if you don't get hit. It hasn't always proven successful, and more than one wildling has caused scars. When questioned of his wounds, Aerik would often dismiss it as a learning experience. Be it arrogance or a humble observation, he isn't the kind of man to make the same mistake twice.

As he grew older, Aerik developed a fondness for drink and women, and much to his father and mother's dismay, he jokes with the Hall Guards that he's likely left enough bastards across the realm to raise an army when they come of age to take the Iron Throne. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, as no one can confirm or deny his claims with any degree of certainty. Aerik comes and goes as he pleases, but he has a good sense of timing and judgment and if he is required to be somewhere, he will be there. Despite his refusal to behave as would be expected of a Lord's son, he carries a sense of responsibility and devotion to his family that leaves little question that when the time comes to act, Aerik will not hesitate to do what needs to be done.

Notes: In contrast to the more severe Jored, Aerik Mormont is a lighthearted man with a ready sense of humour and a warm smile. Being removed from the direct line of succession has given Aerik a sense of freedom that he likely wouldn’t have enjoyed otherwise, and he has expressed interest in seeing the realm. While not nearly as imposing as his brother, Aerik has made the occasional appearance to several tournaments, boasting that the men of Bear Island are tougher than any Southern knight. He isn’t often proved wrong as real battle against wildlings and ironborn aren’t an infrequent occurrence at home, and as such is quite a skilled swordsman, preferring to be light and swift as opposed to the mobile fortress Jored often presents himself as. A real sense of wanderlust may eventually get Aerik into trouble, as he often gets bored of his island home and longs for the opportunity to strike his own path.

-Born 115 AL (26 years old)

    Daely Mormont

    Appearance:
A beautiful young woman, Daely has a warm smile, fine features, and inviting grey-blue eyes. She is a small, slender individual standing at 5'05" who has a more athletic physique than most ladies given her adventures with Aerik and the martial training she has received from the master at arms. Her straight black hair falls between being properly styled and messy, and despite anyone's efforts, any attempts at keeping looking like a proper lady inevitably fall apart as soon as she gets away from the training and practices her mother insists on. She carries herself well, but not as proudly as her mother given her reserved personality.

Personality: Daely is a quiet, reserved girl who often feels like what she wants and what her parents want are mutually exclusive things. Not wanting to live a subservant, proper life like most ladies and not wishing to be a warrior, she finds herself at a loss of how to exert herself. When the Maester taught her how to read, she found refuge from her often restrictive life, living vicariously through the characters in the stories and historical figures, wishing she could live another life. As such, much like Aerik, she grows excited at the prospects of leaving Bear Island to visit far off places across the realm and to watch the tourneys, although often for much different reasons than him. She is close to Aerik, and ever since she was little, she has found him a good friend and confidant in an otherwise boring, lonely life. Despite her quiet personality, she has a sense of adventure and does enjoy the outdoors, where she spends most of her time if the weather holds out by the ocean or in the godswood.

Biography: The youngest of three siblings and a girl, Daely was all but guaranteed to be born into an overprotective family and to have her life largely decided for her. Even as a little girl, her parents had a hard time agreeing on how she should be raised. While Lyana Mormont was born to a family with more traditional emphasis on what was expected of a lady, the women of Bear Island were raised in a warrior culture that expected them to fight when the men were off at war. While the island was raided from time to time, Lady Mormont felt that raising her only daughter as a warrior would not be becoming of the gentle, quiet girl. Lord Mormont, however, wouldn't hear any of that nonsense and so Daely found herself with a weapon in hand as often as a sewing needle and in chain mail as often as a dress. Eventually, her squabbling parents came to an agreement that while there may come a time where she would have to defend the island from invaders, she would do so at a safe distance with a bow and leave the brutal skirmishing to her more physically robust brothers and their retainers.

Daely often felt she didn't have a say in how her life would unfold, and while she was assured that she would wed the man of her choosing, a cynical side of her always felt it would be arranged for cold, political gain. Jored wasn't much of a refuge, as he spent most of his time preparing to fill their father's shoes, she found a peace alongside Aerik, whom expected nothing of her and enjoyed her companionship as he wandered the hold as he pleased and seemed to do as he liked. While many of his actions bordered on reckless and would often land the pair in hot water with their parents, Daely always felt safe with him, and better yet, he never excluded her from anything. Except for moments when the family left Bear Island to visit the other Lords in the North or attend tourneys, the pair often spent most of their time together. However, even Daely would have no clue where Aerik would wander off to when away from home, and knew better than to ask about any new bruises, scents, or changes in appearance. She decided she'd rather not know.

She remains shy around strangers, and finds it hard to approach people. Most of her acquaintances from other holds were introduced to her by her family, Aerik in particular, and even on Bear Island she can only claim to have a handful of friends. She instead loses herself in books or with her bow, where she has become quite an impressive archer given her diminutive frame. Although the lakes and rivers of Bear Island are frigid even in the relative heat of summer, she is a strong swimmer and she often finds solidarity in the godswood and by the ocean, where if but for a few short hours, she can escape the expectations and demands of Lord and Lady Mormont.

Notes: A young girl of seven and ten years of age, beginning to cross the threshold of the awkwardness of adolescence and the grace of physical maturity, Daely is finding herself as a source of conflict with her parent’s wishes, and as such is often torn between being reared a proper lady by Lady Lyana and a strong warrior as her father wishes. As such, many of her lessons are split between sewing and sword play, dancing and archery, and proper speech and manners and how to properly kill a man. She’s somewhat resentful about never being asked what her wishes are, but on the whole she is a happy young woman who receives warm affection from both her parents, just in different ways. Lately, there’s been a concession among her parents that she will learn how to defend Bear Island like any other woman, but it would be from the relative safety that the reach of a bow affords instead if the brutal melees her brothers find themselves in. She loves the general isolation that Bear Island affords and has no intentions of leaving, but like Aerik, she has a desire to see the wider realm before settling into any duties that would require her devotion. She fears she may one day be married off for political purposes instead of love, but her father assures her that her heart’s content is what matters most.
