Alright, I got everything in mind for history, military etc, was not read for advantages and disadvantages...
Will get on that.
Respect of a Galaxy
Humans long ago left Earth, migrating to the stars as their dieing world began to fail rapidly. Left over nuclear radiation from the Blight, crumbling ecosystems long overdue for their extinction date, and resource depletion - only assisted by the exploitation of the planet by the pre-Blight nations - all weighed in to force Humanity away from their homeworld.
However, it is a very different breed of Humans who entered the galaxy in the 66th century; the children of a different civilization to our own, the civilization that arose after the destruction of all technologically advanced society on Earth in 2044. They have many different ideas, a whole new mindset gained from trying to surviving on a rapidly declining, already damaged planet.
By the time of the 69th century - the present time - Humanity has established itself as a major presence in the galaxy, competing with the alien powers that were already present when they emerged. It is still newcomer, but a powerful one with a drive to succeed - even if its many nation states are still divided.
It is a whole new Humanity that finds itself in the future, a Humanity who will have to fight hard to earn itself the respect of the galaxy.
Note: This takes place in the same universe as the Arise from the Ashes series, but nothing carries over from those roleplays besides the fate of Earth, meaning anyone can join in.

Respect of a Galaxy: A Nation Roleplay
Will Humanity survive the last great frontier; space?
Status: Starting out in the IC. Still accepting.

“Life is change, chaos, filth and suffering. Death is peace, order, everlasting beauty.”
Are human nations subject to the advantages and disadvantages?
According to this the largest possible army is 200,000,000. That's not that big on a galactic scale.
Why do you ask what, when the delicious question is when?

Nation Name: Nakhon Union
Species: Nakhon
Physical Description:
Nakhon are a carnivorous amphibian species native to the planet of Akhau. With six eyes and an athletic frame they are well adapted to hunting on land but they are also able to breathe underwater through their skin and the lower pair of eyes is adapted entirely for seeing underwater. Two months after fertilisation, a female will lay a single egg which will hatch after another three months. A newborn has many amphibian features including a tail that will later disappear completely. Most females will be fertile by the age of 12 with males following around the age of 14. At 18 they most will have reached their maximum height of about 1.90m and will be considered fully mature. During their youth, an individual will moult every two or three years. With the help of modern medicine, the average life expectancy is 60 years. Many Nakhon have minor body modifications and technological improvements. Most common are the eye and ear implants as well as replacements of joints, bones or entire limbs for those with medical problems. Common modifications for soldiers include optical improvements, muscle patterning, skin weaves and bone replacements.
Psyche: Aggression is very common in both males and females and is often accompanied by a general lack of all respect or empathy for anything. The Nakhon are individualistic at best and violently divisive at their worst. One redeeming factor, however, is their great adaptability and their capacity to quickly analyse situations and produce creative solutions to problems.
Nation Advantages:
Amphibian: In non toxic environments with a sufficient oxygen level, Nakhon can breathe underwater.
Built for the Hunt: Their athletic build and often muscular physique make the Nakhon durable soldiers. Though resources can be a crippling limitation, a Nakhon soldier is fast and physically capable.
Diversity: The individualism and the division of the people into many smaller states allows for a great deal of diversity creating a unique environment with creative thinkers and radical ideas.
Firepower: The Nakhon military has a fetish for big guns, cannons and all the things that go boom. Artillery is almost always utilised, regardless of battle environment and even simple infantrymen can be seen carrying super-heavy auto-shotguns or anti-materiel rifles taller than themselves. Historians believe that this emphasis on large weaponry simply entertained previous generals and soldiers and was therefore turned into the standard warship doctrine.
Nation Disadvantages:
Hungry: Their rapid growth in their early years and their high metabolism mean the Nakhon require large amounts of food. Enormous swaths of land and in some instances entire colonies, are dedicated to the production of meat. Most ships, especially the larger ones, will have their own food production facilities.
Hedonistic: The Nakhon are opportunistic and hedonistic and will always try to find pleasure and excitement wherever they go. Because of their attitude the Nakhon are incredibly unproductive and it may be hard to draw them away from bars and whore houses long enough to get anything useful done.
Divided: The Nakhon diversity which is so highly praised can also become a severe limitation as it is difficult to unite great numbers of people under a single banner. It can be problematic to make individuals with wildly differing perspectives work together.
Sluggish: Not only does the staggering amount of heavy weaponry mean a reduction in unit size, it has also made most ships slow and sluggish. It was almost unanimously decided that it was more satisfying to place two more spinal mass accelerators on a cruiser than to have it go faster. This was considered to be a most promising move and welcomed with open arms by the military who considered the entertainment value to outweigh possible tactical drawbacks.
Government: Confederation
Stars: 18
Population: 23.8 billion
Home Planet: Akhau (Tholan System)
Population: 9.2 billion
Short History:
The history of the planet Akhau is one of bloodshed and war, with many different factions vying for control, or fighting for survival. Most factions were led by single rulers or a group of rulers but gradually almost all evolved into stratocracies or totalitarian regimes with strong military influence. In more recent history with the development of new social and political ideas, many factions united through agreements and treaties which laid the foundation for the Nakhon Union. The great division between peoples slowed down progress but with the invention of the wormhole drive, and galactic expansion began, the states realised the importance of unity. With the new FTL technology, the Nakhons embarked on a rapid expansion and in a matter of years most states came together to form the Nakhon Union. It took almost half a century for all the nations of Akhau to unite. With the combined power and resources of nearly all of Akhau, colonisation efforts increased greatly and only a century after the discovery of FTL, the Union had already expanded into ten different star systems.
During this time the Nakhons made contact with two other space faring species. The first was a nomadic race, living in enormous space ships, which responded with hostility. The aliens, simply dubbed "the nomads", extensively mined entire systems for their fleet and closed in on the Nakhon systems. Attempts were made to produce large warships but they were no match for the advanced aliens. After two years of struggle with heavy losses as well as the loss of two systems, the mysterious aliens left the area. The second encounter was not with a unified state but rather a host of various human factions, with many resorting to crime and piracy. With the experience of fighting the nomads and crucial salvaged technology that effectively doubled the Nakhon military strength, the new war fleet wiped out the pirates with ease and removed the aliens from two systems entirely, pushing most back to other systems. Another century later, 218 years after the discovery of FTL, the Union encompassed the 18 it currently occupies and the population had almost doubled.
Military:
The Nakhon Union is compromised of 501 independent states of varying sizes. Most states are in charge of their own defence though smaller states may choose to receive troops from neighbouring states. In large scale conflicts the overarching military command of the Nakhon Union may request individual states to give up their command over their own troops for the sake of the Union. The Union has an infamous training programme for special operatives who are under not under the command of a single state but rather the military branch of the Union. These commandos are capable soldiers and feared throughout the Union and beyond. They are frequently employed to deal with insurgencies and pirates.
While there are differences between troops from different states, the general tactics are similar. While equipment varies per state, most professional soldiers possess some form of heavy armour and are backed up by heavy artillery or mobile support. Larger states may also employ larger numbers of drones, unmanned vehicles and mechs. What can be observed in nearly all military units is the emphasis on fire power rather than numbers. Because of this principle the Union's military is not as large as many others but well equipped and capable of dealing with a great range of targets.
What sets the space vessels apart from most other nations is their offensive capability. All large warships are equipped for orbital strikes and all are equipped with large cannons and guns at the expense of mobility and speed. Nakhon ships are slow and sluggish but pack an enormous punch. The "NSV Arrival", the largest of the Union's three dreadnoughts, is considered to be one of the most powerful warships in existence.
Active Military Personnel: 17,560,400
Reserve: 22,500,300

Dreadnoughts: 3
Cruisers: 26
Strike Craft: 50

You'd think so, but you'd be wrong
They do not have tentacles on their face which is a clear disadvantage.
