LGBT History Month!
During the month of February, the EDI team ran a series of stalls across various Central College Nottingham campuses for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender) history month. The stalls were mainly manned by Samantha *******, Eva ******* and myself. The stalls ran around a theme of “That’s so gay!” in an attempt to make people consider the possible implications from using such terminology.
We carried out a survey across the campuses, with the most responses coming from Maid Marion Way at 34 responses and the least from Ellis Grove at 14. However, this does not correspond to the amount of people interviewed, as some people did one survey in groups of two, three or more. The responses were mainly positive, with very few (only 4) responses that could be considered to carry “negative” implications. Getting students involved varied in difficulty from campus to campus, with students at West Bridgford seeming uninterested or unwilling for the most part.
We also held 3 debates around the subject of gay marriage, with an interesting and wide range of views and opinions, which made for some very interesting listening. It was nice to see people from different religions and backgrounds sharing view points, and all respecting the opinions of one another.
Overall, I feel the events held and the general attitude of students and staff towards the people running the stalls was positive, with very few issues. I am looking forward to next year’s events.
