Ghostbusters: the Next Generation

This is the OOC for the ghostbusters RP I'm setting up. Ideally we need four people in total to be the new ghostbusters team, however more than four are welcome.

For character sheets here's what I'm looking for, pretty standard stuff really!

Here's the opening few paragraphs so you get an idea of the kind of world we'll be working with.

The ghostbusters, throughout the eighties this team of heroes battled supernatural forces throughout New York to keep the people safe. Their road was not always an easy one, many times they were vilified and persecuted by the people and government alike, but they stuck true to their purpose in the face of adversity. During their constant battle with the paranormal they also managed to take down some very large and serious otherworldly threats. First, in 1984 was Gozer, the demigod who sought to enslave all of humanity. Then again in 1989 they stopped the spirit of Vigo the Carpathian from being born anew to conquer the modern world.

After these big successes the ghostbusters continued capturing ghosts throughout America and remained in the public eye for a few more years. Their success was to be their downfall however, as by 1993 they had all but ran out of work. With no more major supernatural phenomena occurring the team began to disappear from people’s consciousness. Eventually the team went their own ways; Peter left first to focus on his new family with Dana, Egon was given a job in the government’s secret paranormal research division and Winston took over his father’s construction company. Ray was the only member of the team who didn’t want to move on, he liked being part of the team and thought they were still necessary. He tried to keep the firehouse and the ghostbusters running solo for a few months, but he couldn’t do it alone. Then he spent some time touring the country giving after dinner speeches and doing autograph signings for ever declining crowds of people, eventually he just disappeared altogether. The firehouse became dilapidated and run down, and over time people forgot about the ghostbusters and the heroic work they had done.

In 2013 ghosts start appearing again in New York city, but the people aren’t prepared. Very few people remember the ghostbusters and everyone begins to worry about what to do…

And that's where our story begins!

Name: Jasmine

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Appearance:

*She dresses in outfits like this in her business, but when with the Ghostbusters picture her in a pink ghostbuster uniform

Personality: Usually gentle and caring, even sometimes for the more evil and dangerous spirits. Jasmine is considerate and generous to a fault, but personally she sees it as more of a strength, and feels it is part of the reason why she has her gift with the dead. She prefers diplomacy over violence by far, even to a fault in some circumstances. Even sometimes to the point where she will still try to convince an evil spirit to stop their deeds while they are attacking her in some way. Exorcism is not something she likes to resort to knowing that it is rather painful for a spirit, but will do so if there is absolutely no other way. Except she will not exorcise the spirit of a child, even if they are evil.

Brief personal history: For her entire life, Jasmine had the ability to communicate with ghosts. People often picked on her as a child because of this, though no one really believed her gift to be true. At one point, they even convinced her that she was crazy. But what stopped her from checking into a mental home was the fact that the spirits would sometimes come to her for help. If they were good spirits, she would help them. If not, well, she would have to either exorcise them or be haunted by them to their content.

When she became an adult, she started a small business where she could help people who are haunted by ghosts and wish to get rid of them, or would simply like to speak with a ghost of the departed. However she does not make enough money with that, so she seeks employment the only other way she knows how that involves spirits. The Ghostbusters, whom she thought had been out of business for years.

Any experience/skills that might be useful in the ghostbusters: Jasmine is able to see and communicate with spirits, however there are also spirits that everyone can see too. And just because she can see and talk with them does not necessarily mean they will listen to her. She is not a good shot with the firearms she will be using to trap the bad ghosts inside that little box thingy they use, but she can improve with practice.

However she does compensate for that with her ability to exorcise a spirit. This always takes effort on her part, though. And more powerful spirits are more likely to resist. To exorcise a spirit, the spirit must first be evil. She literally cannot (and will not, even if she could) exorcise one who is not evil. Then, she must swing a smoking censer, close her eyes and chant a special incantation. During this state her eyes are closed, and she is required to focus on the spirit and the spirit only, meaning that she will temporarily lose very much awareness of her surroundings. Most sounds are muffled to her in this state of meditation, and all she can see is spirits.

Aside from that, she is a fairly good negotiator, skilled in artistic painting and drawing, has a creative eye for design, fashion, is an adept dancer (particularly belly dancing, but knows a few other styles as well). She can give tarot readings, astrological readings, stone tablets and lots of other things along those lines.

Anything else? Just because I am GM does not make Jasmine the leader of our team.

A tall muscular youth, graceful of stride and confident in manner. He has a flair for fashion; recently bleaching his hair and beard. He dresses comfratably making sure he can always move about easily in loose cottons or stretchy pants, but never forgetting to add flair.

Personality: The first impressions of Chester are an outgoing somewhat brash youth. Playful with friends and flirtatious with strangers. He will take you up on any dare, then raise the bar on the next. On the flip side, Chester has moments of intense anxiety and depression. He can become cloistered and self inflicting if left to his own devices for to long. He may suffer from un-diagnosed Bipolar Disorder, however, he is reluctant to seek ‘shrink’-help. He is a ‘naturalist’ and deals with his ‘mood swings’ with meditation sometimes herbal supplements. He is also prideful, and reluctant to admit his issues or accept another's help. The pressure he puts upon himself has brought him far in his training, but is also his downfall and takes on more than he can handle.

Brief personal history: An only child. His father a foreign service agent from abroad, and his mother an Artist. His father was is in and out of the home for his job, most of Chesters raising was left to his Mother, which she did gleefuly. She indulged every notion her boy had and found creative outlets for her high-energy son.

What he loved to do most was dance, after years of lessons and recitals he was accepted into a specialized art’s high school program. His grades fluctuated with his moods, but his dedication to dance never waned. After high school he was accepted into a prestigious Dance program by the skin of his teeth. In college he found the next level of dance, as well as personal and social freedom he had never known before. One of his girlfriends taught him Yoga and Buddhism, he dumped her for another, but kept these.

His University career ended his sophomore year, he suffered a mental breakdown. He blames his Meisner-technique teacher (“Why are they teaching dancers this anyway?!”), in truth he took on too much at once and folded under the pressure.
He moved back home with his mother. She let him wallow for about a month. Afterward she began barging into his room at odd hours, something about how he needed to get a job.

“Ghostbusters?” he’d say. “Like that ghost-hunters show? That might be cool....”

Any experience/skills that might be useful in the ghostbusters:
He has no experience with the supernatural, however, if physical feats or finesse is required, he is your man.

Semi-serrious sarcastic horndog, it is suffice to say he takes after his dad rather heavily. He has no moral qualms about using his psychological prowess to tell people exactly what they want to hear to get what he wants.
Brief personal history:
He's been surrounded by paranormal since an early age, his mother was the gatekeeper for Zuul before he was conceived and he himself was almost the avatar for Vigo the Carpathian as an infant. His mother has always tried to keep him away from ghosts or any other paranormal activity, but he himself has always been drawn towards the taboo she tries to shield him from. He would spend summers with his dad Peter and eventually fell into the same interest of the psychology and parapsychology that he had degrees in. Due to a promise to Dana, Peter has never told Oscar about any of the 'war stories' from the eighties no matter what he has been pleaded or bribed with. Right now he is going through the motions of college at Empire State University to get his degrees since there is no way to get a BA like a GED. Then he saw the ad and knew he had found a better way to spend his nights than blacking out in someone else's bed. IF his dad wouldnt tell him about being a ghost buster then he would find out about it himself.
Any experience/skills that might be useful in the ghostbusters:
Equivalent degrees in psychology and parapsychology from years of following in his 'fathers' footsteps.

Let's see.. so far we have Jasmine, Chester, Oscar, and Peter as our mentor. Count him too and that's four people, but only three players. I'm thinking we could just start now. Anyone who wants to join after the rp has already begun can just pretend they were with us the entire time. Making the IC now
