    Zombie Party[adv] int

    Zombie Party IC
    Zombie Party OOC

The idea is a zombie apocalypse thing. But the base premise is that more of society than expected survived the initial outbreak - with there being kind of town/outposts and a few cities remaining and heavily defended. It'd be set maybe 10 years after the initial outbreak - where about 70-80% of the population (or something) is infected.

Initially after the main 'survival wave' people like labourers and builders ect (useful but generally lower paid jobs) become extremely important - leading to a kind of working man leadership - but the politicians, bankers, stockbrokers ect (higher paying but effectively useless jobs) are pushed to the bottom of the pile. Now that there is a kind of stability, they are warring for power using every dirty trick in the book - whilst all surviving in a wasteland of zombies.

This would allow for lots of action, trade, politics, betrayal, death ect that I think would be pretty epic.

Zombie wise I’d be going for my personal favourite – the standard zombie as opposed to any kind of neo-zombie/fast-zombie/mutated-zombie. If anyone has read anything by Max Brooks – that’s what I’m basically going for. Normal shambling corpses that overwhelm with shockingly large numbers and unrelenting, untiring efforts that never stop.

I will of course write up a description of the main points regarding the zombies if I get enough interest and what not. But its more or less the standard – destroying the brain is all that kills them, virally transmitted infection through fluids (mostly the mouth, as most bodily fluids dry and crust up)

The main story would obviously be general survival – but as I said I wanted a focus on action, trade, politics, betrayal, ect between the survivors in the city or something – and would set up a ‘main’ story element for the players to begin with – with the story being mostly driven depending on how it plays out.

The main way the zombie horde works is by one zombie spotting a survivor – which triggers the moaning to begin. Other zombies hear said moaning and also start to moan, whilst moving towards the sounds/survivors. This sound can be heard by other zombs from quite a distance so it ends up pulling in all of the undead in the area into a shambling horde that generally travels together – unless there are no survivors or anything anymore, and they slowly disperse once more.

This would allow for build ups of zombies – as you’d imagine around the population centres. Meaning that there would almost always be a horde surrounding the areas which could either be periodically destroyed or simply ignored. (Until they build up and up and up and inevitably breakthrough – adding to the overall infected levels)

I want to give a large amount of freedom – so feel free to set up a personal goal for yourself, for example if you wanted to you could be a disgruntled banker who managed to survive and now that you’ve been given the job of shovelling up the zombie remains after the guards kill them – you feel that its time to get back on top of the pile and become a leader of some kind. To do that you could try and prove that the current rulers are doing a much worse job that you are, or that they are corrupt and hording supplies – or simply try and kill them in one way or another.

I’d also like to say that generally speaking I’m looking for less ‘big tough dude with guns’ type of characters, as I’m wanting a different kind of zombie RP – though that doesn’t mean you can’t be that. Just keep in mind this will focus more so on the people than the zombies elements of survival.

Weapons and things – I think it’d be best if guns and things are rarer, with much of the supply and ammo being used up during the outbreak period and after the 10 years of survival they are running low. Only higher-ups and guard types would have easy access to weapons and ammo – though obviously nearly every person would be carrying some kind of melee weapon or at least something to protect themselves if the worst happens.

But anyway – for now I shall leave it at that. I’m also probably going to be looking for a co-GM to help things along. Also I generally would be happy posting once every 1-3 days, but depending on how things go and how you guys want to do it – more or less regularly works too. Anyone interested or even have any ideas or suggestions?

(Also I’m currently working on the starting info and will post here once done )

The starting location would likely be the largest city around – which I shall dub ‘Haven’ for that nice original feel

Short History of Haven: After the initial outbreak Haven was little more than an abandoned town with the occasional shambling corpse walking the empty streets. A group of friends who had managed to survive made it their safe-house because of its natural position surrounded by an empty riverbed, which they discovered generally stopped zombies from getting in to the town itself. From there the group scavenged around – not only managing to score a large amount of food from a sealed up supermarket but also eventually breaking into a sealed up hospital and stumbling upon another group who had taken refuge there. Over time as more and more survivors were discovered in the surrounding area the small safe-house expanded to the point where the survivors began to build upon the current infrastructure to provide the needed facilities and living space for the increasing number of people flocking there.

As time passed this trend continued under the leadership of a single man, who took control out of necessity - Frank Carver. Haven soon had a population of over one thousand – despite the constant moaning and droning caused by the undead who continued to move towards the town before falling into the riverbed which had been deepened and had a wall built on the town side. It wasn’t long before the number of zombies was beginning to be an issue – and after much deliberation it was decided that a task force needed to be assigned to clear them out twice every year at least. The first sweep was dangerous and deadly with many men and women being killed during the process – but after several days it was finally complete and the residents were overjoyed by the silence and peace that fell on the town.

Over the years the population of Haven is now staggering – with it becoming almost overpopulated. This presented many problems initially, but as the world stabilised and other groups of survivors made contact a system was established. A system of trade and co-operation which was lead by those who had survived and taken charge – those most qualified to lead humanity by doing, by fixing the problems at hand. Obviously the system wasn’t perfect – but it was something. The large amount of survivors meant that there was always labour as each person tried to make some kind of a living in this new system.

Through this a balance has been created - in which the towns each produce what they can to barter for the goods they cannot. Haven is now famed for its safety and high standard of living - and trades in mostly shelter and skilled labour and fuel, sending out skilled work forces and fuel shipments in exchange for supplies.

There are other settlements which have managed to get production moving once more and provide necessities such as food, clean drinking water, fuel and most valuable of all ammunition. Also some luxury goods are beginning to have some value as they circulate with the traders and people start to want them once more.

To the far north a small and isolated outpost was set up at an oil processing and refining facility to once more provide fuel to the survivors, nicknamed only Outpost Fueler. The expedition was the idea of Frank Carver, and it succeed as the group was able to establish an outpost which soon turned into a small community as more people looking for work drifted in and were able to settle. With a heavily armoured defence team and solid walls the outpost became the number one source of fuel for every single community. As an outpost of Haven Frank Carver was able to spread and distribute the fuel as fairly as possible - using it as the primary trading element for Haven, turning it into the centre of the new human society.

But now everything is starting to change. There have been talks about the independence of Outpost Fueler, it's residents starting to feel like they deserve the full benefits of the fuel they produce. As tensions rise all things need is a catalysing element to begin the process of change. If the balance of power shifts what will happen to the people of Haven without their primary resource.

Likewise in the town of Sloevale unrest is building as a small group has taken control of the town and are using a distillery to produce large quantities of alcohol. Using this commodity they've taken control of the town and have set up several caravans which now trade the spirit amongst the survivors throughout the entire wasteland. With the power of trade behind them they have now become more like a gang than anything else - terrorising citizens and visitors alike believing that they can do whatever they want as their Sloevale gang grows larger and larger, even now taking control of a few neighbouring settlements.

Other noteworthy settlements include the town of Anglian, a place where the residents were able to set up many farm-like areas to grow large quantities of food due to the large solar energy facility and plentiful supplies left behind. They managed to develop a vertical farming method, where using hydroponic lights inside an old apartment complex they are able to defend them with much more ease than the open spread farms which also surround Anglia.

There is the amply named Boomtown - the only place to secure a working weapons manufacturing plant and get it running once more. This settlement is much more recent than most others and in comparison is still in it's infancy - with a group of less than 100 occupying the plant, running it and defending it. They also have strong ties to Haven, favouring it strongly in ammunition deals and once more providing them directly to Frank Carver who has seen that it goes first to the men and women defending the city before anyone else - another policy of his which is now coming under fire from those who believe they should be able to protect themselves without relying on the guard's protection.

That's all for now - but as you can see I'm trying to go for a system teetering on instability which could be pushed one way or another depending on what you, the players want.

I've been thinking of doing something similar, but without the zombies; a world that is rebuilding after some catastrophic event, where the story is still somewhat set around "survival", but also on politics, ethics, and so on. But this is close enough. I'll keep an eye on this to see how it develops.

Sounds like a zombie RP I might actually be interested in joining. I already have a base for my character: A butcher in the literal sense, one that chopped meat off animals and sold it.

Well definitely something which I think would fit with what I was imagining. From what you've said it'd be pretty sweet to have you guys on board

I'm looking to develop something pretty decent and I think some strong characters would help

    I am interested in this.
How many players do you plan on having? I liked that you mentioned ex-banker who wants to get back on top - I tend to make characters who manipulate and generally tend to be power hungry. Or, I could be a martyr that blindly believes that people can be changed to become good.

That kind of chara would work

Yeah well I'm thinking it depends mostly on the interest. Ideally I'd like at least 4 people and myself. Today I should be getting a post up which details the main towns and the relationships between them – and from there the story that will get the ball rolling.

Hello, I'm just stating my interest in this. I've always wanted to do something like this but whenever I tried to get it going on an interest check, No one would even acknowledge it so they always died. I had an idea for a character I'd Like to run By You. I was thinking something along the lines of this . . .

Would that character fit in your RP at all. I was thinking his main struggle would be people trying to pull him back into crime within the major cities that are left and him trying to make up for his past sins while trying to stay alive in the apocalyptic waste land he calls home.

Yeah that type of character could fit in nicely indeed with the type of stuff of I had in mind. That way the main struggle for him can be as you say – if he is able to keep on the straight and narrow – as other keep trying to hire him as the power struggle happens. Likewise once stuff starts happening and things get bad he may try and fix the problems himself? But yes either way that kind of character would work

I know what you mean about the interest. I think this is my second or third attempt to get this up. As I’ve said I’m writing up the layout of the landscape and cities and politics and things so hopefully once that’s up more will take an interest.

I've seen this too, zombie RPs rarely turn up in the advanced section, and if they do, not too many seem to join them. Hope this one gets the interest it needs to get off (and stay afloat, of course).

Also, SuperOtaku, I kinda like how your character is a hunter and mine a butcher.

I've just updated some info about the actual locations and some history in my first post. Again any comments/suggestions/questions welcome.
