Deleting spam would most likely mean the members moved to Member Lounge, the other "random threads you can think off" that hasn't seen as much traffic other than for the stickied threads. Would it reduce the crap? Probably, probably not.

If Spam gets deleted, it's the end of Member's Lounge.

It is hard to join spam though. I've been here four years, nearly five and I attempted to join spam. It does feel like a private thing. A club house or in fact a secret gang. It's awkward and uncomfortable there

I feel the same way. Plus I really only know like two people on this entire site(there's a couple others but they don't go to spam).

It did reach a point where shit did become that bad, however, and therefore a Spam section was deemed necessary. Furthermore, the fact that there are stickies in relation to that exact problem, i.e, 'Spam field trips into Off-Topic', is an indication that, currently, the urge to do so is worse.

Whether the root cause of that is the collective boredom of the community increasing or just the fact that the current generation of off-topic lurkers are worse is up for discussion; point is, the situation is what it is now - there's no need to aggravate it by forcing the issue.

The problem is not what caused the creation of spam but rather what it is, as of now. Back then, yeah, maybe the Spam in OT wasn't a big deal (though I wasn't around then so I can't hold much of an opinion there), but when Spam was created, it then had its own private little forum for these types of threads and behaviors to grow far beyond what the originally were when the need for Spam came about. Not to mention, this means Spam has new members coming in all the time for the label on the tin, which, again, makes Spam grow. If it were to be deleted, whatever "overflow" into OT and Members Lounge that would result from it would be far more than what was plaguing OT around the time of its creation. Spam is, simply, bigger than it was before.

The same logic applies to a suggestion I recall coming up once in OT, when someone suggested that the religion debates be given their own forum so that they wouldn't flood OT anymore (since at the time there were definitely a lot of them, and I agree they were rather annoying), and, a common response was that such a hypothetical forum would be the "new Spam", since creating a new forum would just let those threads fester, multiply, and make it so that there will always be religion threads and the deletion of the Religion Debate forum would cause all the debates to flood into OT and... yeah. Such was the creation of Spam, except at the time the administrators apparently didn't see it coming. By wanting to clean up those kinds of threads, we made it so that they will never leave us. Ironic huh?

But yeah. Such is the reason why Spam flooding into OT and ML is bad, regardless of whether or not the Spammy threads in OT before its creation were that bad.

TBH, strict moderation would solve that. It would be horrible job to do, sure, but it's not like you have any power to make that job impossible. Likewise, it's not like deleting the free section would cause all casual and advanced players to leave the site. People making free standard RP's in casual/advanced could be moderated for not abiding the rules and that is exactly what would happen if the member's lounge would be used as spam. Truth is that spam, due to it's required influx of new members, is more dependant on the site than the site is of spam. Which is not at all.

Exactly, it's horrid and the mods would be so cranky in the end if that happened. And I did say it's possible that the crap would cutdown. :)

I just feel I should point out though that someone from spam is requesting that a wait period be added so new people do not get harassed so much in spam anymore because of how much they harass new people when that is one of the primary things in the off-topic rules. So I ask you to think just how bad that at the very least looks
