I'm new here, but not to Role Playing. The forum I used to RP on for the better part of 8-10 years has for the most part died, so I figured I'd try my luck elsewhere for a change.

I normally RP with one character, whose name is my username, and I'm more of a fantasy/modern-fantasy style. Over the years I've developed a strong background and future goal for my character, which I utilize often for character development, but I rarely use it as a main aspect in any of my RPs. I like to leave that up to whoever else is replying, because it makes things more interesting when everyone is playing off of each other's ideas in order to propel both characters forward (or backwards).

I hope that made sense, I'm horrible at introductions.

Anyways, I'm not quite sure as to where to begin posting. I'm on the fence between the Casual and Advanced forums because I take my characters and my writing seriously, however I don't always write a novel per post. I can usually dish out a few normal sized paragraphs for starters, but my replying is based off of what I've been given to go off of and how much I feel is necessary for my character's interaction. From skimming through, it seems like everything is much more story based and structured rather than the casual style that I've become accustomed too. As silly as it sounds I'm a tad nervous to make my first post.

It doesn't HAVE to be structured, especially if you run your own. I'm interested in modern fantasy (depending on your expectations), too, by the way. If you're interested, I can do a 1x1 with you that can demonstrate the standards of both Casual and Advanced, though you have no reason to feel intimidated in advanced. All that's required is 2-3 good paragraphs...or 3-4, depending who you ask. That's usually pretty easy to accomplish, especially when you're given some freedom to control the world around you. And if the trepidation is because it's a new site, then feel free to just jump in somewhere. Make your own RP, join one, whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Thank you! I usually prefer to start my own RP, I suppose I'll post in casual for now to test the waters and get used to the place.

Another thing I forgot: I'm assuming that all character profiles and bios are to be in the character sheets section? I like that there's a designated spot for all of that.

Well, from what I've gathered, the character sheets are posted in the OOC section of the respective role plays...that character sheets section...I mainly think people use that to keep tabs on their own characters, and templates. But I could be wrong. Mostly they're just thrown in with the OOC.

If you plan on reusing your character, with slight modifications for individual RP settings, it's easiest to post a base in the character sheet section and that base plus setting-edits in the RP itself. Some people running RPs post a list of everyone's characters who are in the RP there, too. Some RPs have a thread to post them in there to keep the OOC stuff more about the conversations than interruptions with character sheets. It makes it easier to find instead of having to search through an entire OOC to find a single character sheet.

I was rambling there, but the point should still be clear, right?

Uses for the CS board:

• Post reused characters, stripped of setting.
• GMs can post the RPs accepted characters.
• GMs can make a thread for people to post their characters for easy reference later.
• Players can do the same thing for all of their own characters.

I think that sums it up, right? Most people don't use it, from what I've seen. If anything, it saves a couple kb of space on your computer or ipod or whatever. I think more people should use it, for reason 4 if nothing else. Makes it SO much easier.

It's definitely a nice feature to have. The place I RPed at only had one RPG forum mixed with a whole bunch of others, so any kind of legitimate character information was normally on page 10 and completely forgotten about within a couple hours. Since I'm only running with one character for the time being, I figured I'd post the general information and background there (and whatever else I end up adding in over time) and just stick it into my signature for easy access!
