    Cry Wolf

“Fine, go out, but if something happens to the pack then I’m blaming you.” Despite his cruel words, Jax had a smirk upon his muzzle. He meant no harm, only wanted to joke with his alpha. The wolf normally wouldn’t take such talk from one beneath him, but the two had been friends for so long that it’d become second nature when they were alone.

Adrian had been itching to get out of the normal routine, and was in the process of running out to be on his own for a bit when his 'second in command' per say, Jax, had just caught him, tackling him playfully down one of the many hills that surrounded their territory. There were beautiful mountains in the distance, and forests surrounding them so that they had the coverage to keep them safe, and enough food to hunt anytime they needed. They had even taken over an area where the cool river flowed swiftly, turning into a stream that was safe even for the pups.

“I know, I know…Jax, you cannot blame me for wanting to go out. Yes, it could be dangerous, but I didn’t get my position in the pack for nothing, no did I?” he reminded him, squeezing out from beneath the male to stand on his own four paws again. Jax looked up at him with a sigh, slowly standing up to face him like an actual adult. “I’m just cooped up. Tired of being pressured with…well, you know. I need some time,” he said, shuddering against the chilly breeze that blew through his gray and white fur. It never did get terribly cold where they were, but on this particular day the sun didn’t seem to want to come out, causing the air to nip at his ears and toes.

Jax nodded, his tail wagging against the grass as he sat. “Fine, fine. I’ll keep watch while you’re gone, of course, and I’ll make sure they don’t go too far.”

“I owe you!” Adrian called back, as his paws were already hitting the ground with as much force as he could muster, pushing him away from their territory. He wanted out of the responsibilities, even if just for an hour or two. He loved being alpha, and would fight to keep it until he died defending it, but today was a day for himself. Adrian closed his eyes as he ran across the large grass plain, focusing on only the air around him and the ground beneath his paws.

The cut Of the chill wind Blowing his fur The wrong way Was enough to have Kryo curling back His upper lip, Rumble in his throat threatening to shift into a snarl. His tall and leanly muscular body angled itself to protect against the worst of the bite, but didn't break stride as he loped Across the open ground. Short blades Of half dead grass Quietly crunched beneath his paws, Occasionally breaking into a quick snick-snicking Of toenails on flat stone surfaces. As a second pair of paws Followed in a much quicker And quieter tempo, The big brown wolf Quickly turned his head to glare back over his shoulder.

"You wanted to come with me, so stop trying to slow me down Eden." He snapped viciously at the small female wolf trailing behind him. He snickered in a satisfied way as her lithe Body visibly jumped And her legs churned even faster than before. With a sharp snort, he returned his attention onto more important matters.

They were in The rival pack's territory, sent out on a scouting mission to locate weak Points they would be able to attack from. He was supposed to be keeping an eye Out for any loaners that might stray across their path. But somehow, he kept finding himself being distracted by bullying his almost useless mate.

"I-I'm Sorry..." The White and gray Female stuttered, dropping her head, ears, And tail all at the same time.

Kryo Snapped at her in a whisper, Bearing his fangs At her. She came to an abrupt halt and took a hasty step backwards. "Quiet! I can hear someone running."

As one, The two wolves turned their heads towards a gray body that was streaking through the field, their own bodies going stiffs and crouching low to the ground.

Adrian was so immersed in his run that he nearly missed the hint of foreign wolf sent in the air. It had been blowing toward him but now… The wolf lifted his nose to the air, trying to get a better idea of where it was coming from, but never did he expect that they were so close. The scent was gone because it was him who was downwind, he’d already run past their hiding spot.

The male sighed, absently digging at the ground with one paw as he tried to make a decision. Should he go home, make sure everything was all right? No, Jax said he would take care of things. Besides, he hadn’t even heard a sound of them. He would howl to get an answering call from them, but then everyone would know he was gone, and he would have to backtrack that much sooner. “They’re fine,” he muttered to himself, looking down to see the many marks he’d made in the dirt from his nervous pawing.

Well, this was as good of a place as any to stop. Adrian was smiling now, tail wagging slowly behind him as he stepped over to a large rock, climbing to the top with no difficulty, only to sit contently with the wind blowing his well-kept fur. Eventually, if left in peace he would lay down and close his eyes, taking in the fact that at least for the next half an hour, no one would bother him.

Dull gold Colored eyes Watched carefully as the lone male Crossed their path, Obviously detecting there scent But eventually deciding to bypass them. It was interesting enough that it held Kryo's Attention long enough for him to work the pieces together That were itching on the corner of his thoughts. This was some sort of scout from the Other pack, Coming out to check on the integrity of the borders, But he was too afraid to confront any strangers...

"Perfect." The large brown wolf breathed, Teeth glistening as he parted his maw. Without turning his head, he addressed Eden In an equally quiet growl. "I'm going to circle around and try to take this Coward by surprise. You will stay here And cut off his exit if he tries to get away.." Without waiting for any response, he vanished into a tall clump of grass With barely more than a rustle.

Heart practically pounding in her throat, Eden sank Onto her belly, tail tucking Neatly between her legs. She didn't like the idea of attacking the stranger without warning, but she wouldn't say anything against her mate, Not if she wanted to keep her fur Where it was. Ears Briefly pressing against her skull, She focused her bright yellow eyes On the stranger who had perched atop a rock.

Silently, she watched as Kryo Circled around to his back, crouching low to the ground. With a wild snarl, The muddy colored wolf leapt Onto the unsuspecting back of the gray male, Teeth snapping down onto the scruff Of his neck.

Adrian heard the snarl just half a second before he was hit, and it certainly wasn’t enough time to defend. He yelped as they rolled off the rock, wind knocked out of them when they landed on the hard dirt below. Surely Kyro would quickly realize, however, that he hadn’t picked a fight with a simple scout of usual wolf of the pack. With a loud growl Adrian pushed his rival away, getting to his feet and preparing to strike back. So this was the scent he’d caught…he shouldn’t have assumed it was from far away.

“What’s your problem?” he snarled, hackles raised and sharp teeth exposed. “You’ve crossed the line into my territory, in case you didn’t know, and you need to leave. Now. I’m not going to tell you again!” he growled loudly, starting to circle the wolf so he could defend himself, or attack if needed. He didn’t plan on running away, certainly not, but he would howl for backup if it was needed. He may be strong and have a lot of pride, but he wasn’t going to be stupid and not get help when it was necessary. Adrian kept his bright blue eyes on the male, trying to ignore the sting of a wound at his neck. Had the wolf really cut him that deep? Surely not…

Ah, So this wolf had Some fighting spirit in him after all, good. Eager For the fight, Kryo curled His lips back in a snarl of his own. Tail Twitching back and forth Almost like an excited cat, the brown wolf Snickered. "Don't you think that I would know That I am not on my own territory? I'm alone, that much should have been obvious." He Shook his head slightly as he leapt Forward, teeth Ready to bite. "I am here specifically to attempt to destroy your pack."

He Might have been acting to overconfident, unbelieving that this stranger would manage to get away from this attack a live. He was aiming For the other's throat, two self assured To even conceive the possibility that he would achieve nothing less then a swift victory. It made Eden Nervous for some unknown reason, Her front paws Dancing against the ground as she watched the fight only a a few wolf lengths Away from her.

Well, this wasn’t a loner, that much he knew. It had to be from the rival pack…but why was he alone? That was a stupid move on his part if he was planning on attacking. What was that leaders name…Kryo, that was it. Adrian was about to tell him the key word here was ‘attempt’, but there was no time for such remarks. The wolf lunged forward with all his strength, kicking up dirt behind him with his massive back legs.

They continued longer than Adrian should have fought, and he knew that even if one won, they would both be too bloodied to go anywhere. When attacking he tried to go straight for the neck and nipped at his ankles when in a defensive position. And at the right moment, when the wolf had a second to breathe, he called for his brothers, howl echoing down the path he’d taken to get here. Oh how he regretted leaving now… But perhaps this was opportunity to get rid of those that gave them trouble? He had the leader in his grasp, and the rest should be here soon…

So now, Adrian just wanted to keep him there, keep them both entangled until the others arrived. “You’re going to regret ever leaving your home, Kryo. We never did anything to you, we can both live peacefully!” he growled with a bark, one of his claws gracing his hind leg. If he was able to bid his time, Jax and a few of the other males would show up and surround the area, teeth bared and ready to protect their leader at any cost.

The howl Was unexpected, catching Kryo off his guard Causing the big wolf To stumble backwards a few steps. How could he have known that he was dealing with the alpha? Recovering only Very slightly, he yelped As the claw Scratched down his flank, His body instinctively jumping to one side. "I'll make it home. With the knowledge of how to destroy your pack at my paws. You don't deserve this land." He shouted, ears pinning.

At that moment, his eyes met Eden's And he nodded. With that small motion, The small she Wolf Suddenly propelled forward, Terror coursing through her body As she opened her mouth. Quick as she could manage, her teeth closed around the Opposing Alpha's tail, Head jerking back sharply.

A nod? What was he looking at, there was nobody around but-

That sharp, stinging pain caused him to make a noise of distress, but he didn’t let himself be caught off guard long. His target had changed, his eyes focusing on the female. Had she been hiding this entire time? He needed to brush up on his tracking skills, it was pathetic how easily they took him... Adrian whirled around, flinching slightly from the rip her teeth made in his tail because of it. As much as he’d been out to kill the other alpha, Adrian wasn’t going to do that with this female, even if she did deserve it. So instead of going for her neck like he did with Kryo, the wolf scratched and bit at her stomach, her ears, legs...anything to wound her. His fear was that she wasn't the only one. Did the alpha bring his whole pack, or just this female? If so then...why? Why not another male? It didn't make sense to him...

It was then that the others finally arrived. “I’ve got her, Jax, go after the male!” he growled to the few that showed up. If he was able, Adrian would eventually, after a long fight, pin the female to the ground with his body, teeth at her neck to frighten her into submission. His fierce growl would be all she could hear in the clearing, the others letting Adrian handle it himself.

As The other alpha whirled Away from him and towards Eden, Kryo felt His lips peelback In a brief grin, Triumph sweet as it sang Through his body. Fur bristled, He dug his claws Into the ground and began to propel himself forward. But at that moment, he was distracted by motion In the distance And found himself cursing after Scrutinizing the approaching figures for a heartbeat. They had been closer to the pack then he had originally intended, Help easily called for. Hesitating for only a second longer, The brown wolf Made up his mind quickly. With barely a glance towards his fallen mate, he darted Away from the fight And back towards his own territory.

Eden hadn't Even hesitated when the attack turned on her To drop as fast as she could To her belly And roll onto her back, Exposing her vulnerable underside To the gray and brown wolf. It didn't stop her from receiving Several painful nips on her ears, A cut opening in the right one, nor Do anything for the scratches she received across her belly. She whimpered Quietly, pinning her ears Against her skull And abruptly tucked Her tail between her legs. She didn't fight back, tilting her chin up To expose her throat, Not even reacting as the male Placed his fangs Onto it.

Trying not to move so much as a whisker, She felt her heart sink as Several other wolves appeared, Upside down to her point of view.. She fought To hold back another whimper As they were swiftly surrounded.

One Of the newcomers, a steely grey male, huffed As he glanced towards his alpha, Shaking his head. "We weren't fast enough. He's already gone." He Said bitterly, Taking a moment to growl Deep in his throat. Obviously, Fen Wasn't very happy at the idea Of missing out on a fight.
