How do you get past writer's block?

A question that hit is how does one get past writer's block? I've recently been unable to flesh out my paragraphs and characters. When you're going through something like this, how do you usually get the fuel to burn the fires again, so to speak.

    Stop and take a break.
Do something you usually don't do.
    Read something.

Additionally, read these threads, one of them might have what you're looking for:

I think like this: my idea is the blueprint, the words I use are the bricks, and the product is the house. Writing is a craftsmanship, friend, the completed work is the art. "Writer's/artist's block" is a concept conjured by those who indulge in the illusion that they are "artists".

Open a new document and start pouring all your thoughts onto the screen. Don't worry about style, spelling, or grammar—just write, afterwards you rewrite your ideas to fit whatever it is you wish to accomplish.

I quietly listen to music and lie on the bed for a little half-hour snooze, thinking about stuff.

Reading is also good, you can find that spark of inspiration that will take you where you needed to be.

I also take a quick smoke break.

For this, there are countless recipes, none that work for all. We like to think on what caused the block to appear. Remove the root, and the plant dies.

Of course, when the roots are invisible and self-healing, that can be a challenge.

last time we got a block, it was caused by trying to think on an RP situation from the wrong perspective. Once we switched perspective, the words flowed yet again.

If a character consistently brings up this evil root (writer's block) in you, then perhaps the character is incorrectly designed? Its very hard to write from a perspective that you cannot fathom for yourself. You need not agree with it in any way, but understanding at least a part of it is important to making it work. We (like to) think that few of the writers that depict rape in their stories have any experience with it, either as victim or assailant, yet it is often used as an element to characterize the worst of the worst.

Understand the thoughts/ideas behind the actions you want your characters to perform, and the words will flow. It might take a few days for understanding to sink in, but that might be necessary. Of course, if the character is of such level of development that it has a will of its own, and that will does not want to do what you want it to do, then it might never sink in.

    Read Homestuck.

No more writer's block for the next week; the music, the characters, the plot, the art, anything. It's all a giant steroid for imagination and creativity.

I write grandeur stuff a lot. Throw me a PM if you want ideas or you're interested in expanding on anything that I post.

I think I go to perceiving the world I'm stuck on, or if I'm stuck on something alternate to another as I'm usually active in several concepts. I try to see the problem why I can't process and remedy it. "Why can't I write here, what can I do?" is a sometimes effective remedy, but it has not worked times before and as a GM it's a terrible thing if you can't progress the narrative.
