Sandbox Superhuman RolePlay OOC Thread

Black and white. Pretty simple, idn't it? You got one color that represents something, and its opposite. Easy as pie. Guess what? Life's not easy. There is no complete black and white. Most everyone does something for a reason, not just because they know which side of the line they're on. Some people do bad things and think it's what is right, or know that it's wrong but must be done. Others seem to be doing the good while actually hurting others. Black is a myth. So is white. The only thing that exists is grey. That's where you come in. Are you famous for being an all-powerful being, or did you just suddenly appear? Are you active in your superhuman community or does anyone know you exist at all? It's a clean slate, so ready your hammer and chisel.

This RP will be a superhero/villain themed RP set in a sandbox, Casual + (I'll explain what that means in the rules). What that means is that it's like real life. There is no goal or plot, everything is entirely up for you to decide. How you got your power, what you have done with and before it, and what you'll do next is at the mercy of your keyboard. This is just like real life, only with the godly powers. Be a hero and fight for justice because you can actually make a difference. Take advantage of what you have and accomplish your goals at the cost of the people who can't stop you. Live out as ordinary a life as possible. This is just another day, and you get to choose how to wake up and what's on your to-do list. So. Now that you know what you're dealing with, let's get down to the nitty gritty.

Casual+ is my special breed of style. It's been done before, but that's what I call it. It basically means at the lowest point, you can post as if you are in casual. I'm not going to be that demanding of anyone regarding posts and how often, but still adhere to the rules. But you have the choice to write a freakin' novel if you want, because I guarantee at least one other person will meet that expectation. That person will probably be me. I'm not calling it High Casual, because High Casual is slang for "I want the attention from the Casual crowd without the rules of Advanced, but I'm keeping my post lengh". This isn't that. This is "I'm gonna post like it's Casual," "Alright, cool," "Is it cool if I take a few pages on this then?" "Yeah, sure,". It's a pretty 'your choice' kind of level. I'm totally freaking trademarking Casual+, by the way.

Easy. You guys submit your CS's to the CS thread, I approve them, I stick you in a thread and go. You can talk amongst yourselves and request to be put in threads with people you know or people you want to know, but I need a balanced stack of 5-7 per each so if you don't care you'll go where I assign you. Each thread will be a different medium-large city. If you pay attention to all three threads, feel free to put big events from a different one into yours somehow, like through the news or TV. I'm also not opposed to hopping to a different thread, as long as you ask me or Twisted first and it doesn't happen too often. Everyone will use this same OOC thread to keep in touch. Got questions? I might sound like a Nazi in the following list, but I just want to be crystal clear exactly what is and what is not okay.

1. All of the normal forum rules apply here. Don't flame and belittle, debates are alright. I am the GM and I make the rules. TwistedShadow is the Co-GM and he will help enforce them. If you don't want to play by the rules, you don't have to play. You'll get one warning and then get kicked out. Past that it's a site admin referral.

2. This RP will be mature, but don't overdo it. Personally, my character will have a foul mouth, but keep your curses to an appropriate level. Blood and gore is perfectly fine with me, but if anyone has any objections or problems I'll ask you to tone it down. Romantic situations will be limited to R. Anything in detail will have to continue to PM, just allude to it or fade to black.

3. If two or more characters are fighting, keep it fair. You won't auto-dodge, auto-hit, and overpower everyone you fight, especially if you're outnumbered. Fights are messy, and you're almost guaranteed to take a hit and feel it later unless you have a very obvious advantage. It's alright if it makes sense, such as superhuman reflexes vs. a normal punch to the jaw, but it's best to work out how the fight will go in the OOC or through PM before you actually do the fighting. If you can't come to an agreement, I will decide the outcome.

4. If you plan on being gone, please let someone know. If you don't plan on being gone but disappear due to complicated things, we'll give you a reasonable amount of time waiting for you to come back depending on how badly and how many people you're holding up. After that time is up, someone will ghost write for you until you do come back. If you don't agree with what your character has done or how they've been represented, I can come up with some excuse I'm sure for why your character wasn't themself. If you have just lost interest and don't feel like playing anymore, that's fine too. You honestly won't hurt my feelings, sometimes the interest goes. We've all been there. Just make sure that you tell me so that I can kill of your character or make them disappear or give them to someone else. This goes almost the same for if you plan on being gone for a long time, but we'll just ghost play you and force your character to disappear until you come back.

5. I'm going to have to be strict on a minimum post length, just so that we can get a clear picture on everything. This entire experience is a story, a grand tapestry of intertwining descriptions and actions, not a newspaper. Of course, sometimes it's okay to violate this rule, but do it too often and I'll tell you to step it up. I'll give the example I gave in the Interest Check for close to bare minimum post length:

Jimmy was pretty shocked. He honestly hadn't expected her to say that. Why on Earth would she have that idea about him? It was a little absurd if you asked him, and such rudeness wouldn't be tolerated. He decided to speak up about it. "Y'know, there's no need to rustle me up like that. That was a little uncalled for, dontcha think?"

That's pretty fair, right?

6. Spamming. Don't do it. Be polite and wait for the majority of the group. If someone's being left behind, let them catch up. I know how everyone can get excited, especially during an event, but the entire experience is so much better if everyone is on the same page. Post as much as you wish in one response, but not like 5 posts out of the page.

7. Read the rules. Most people don't. They just make a CS and jump in. That's why I'm mentioning this here. In the CS I make, there will be a section for "favorite color". Leave it completely blank. Put absolutely nothing in that section. That's why I hid this here in the middle of the rules and didn't make it obvious. If you mess up, I'll tell you your CS has a problem, but I won't say what and you'll need to figure it out. Anyone can point out what it's missing and then whoever just says "Okay!" and does that without reading the rules anyway. Don't be that guy, and don't be the guy that points it out, either.

8. Be consistent. Pay attention to details that people give out. You don't need to be Sherlock Holmes and pick out every little thing and give it attention, but if someone happens to comment about the sunrise and you walk up to them asking to get lunch, shows how much you pay attention. Let's keep the times and events straight, please.

9. I'm not always gonna be here, alright? I have a very demanding life (at least one guy here knows why, and he's the Co-GM) and I'm in a completely different timezone than everyone else, so don't expect me to be up the very same half hour that you post or have an issue. In fact, don't expect me on the same day. I'll get to it when I get to it, keep your head on straight. I'm one of the types that will wait by their computer and constantly refresh, waiting for a reply (ALL of you are, you can't lie to me!), but no one gets on until like 2AM my time. Weekends are better, but still. Also, if you're in the U.S., I'm one day ahead of you at all times.

10. Enjoy yourself! Have a good time! If you're not having fun, why do you continue? This isn't my story or plot or world or anything. It belongs to everyone. Feel free to start your own events, make your own NPCs, flesh out the sandbox you're playing in! Maybe Joe Schmoe likes the coffee shop down the street. What's it called again? That's exactly how we make a good world. Someone comes up with a place, it becomes the place for stuff. Don't be shy!

NEW RULE! 11. Because of the crowding of the threads, there is now a post limit. You can only post once at least 2 others do. This is to avoid spamming, which is generally a problem in large-sized groups like this one. Please keep it in mind, I won't change the past, but I'll be keeping an eye out. I'm not going to be too anal about this one, but bear with me when I say that I don't take it lying down. Break it too often over a short period of time and you might just find your character dead.

NEW RULE! 12. There will be absolutely NO DARKNESS POWERS, SHADOW POWERS, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT. Period. Darkness powers piss me off, and while their applications aren't overpowered I have yet to meet a single person to not abuse the shit out of them to become the most overpowered motherfucker in existence.

[B]Innate Personality:[/B] (This will be who they are as a core being. It will be basically who they are in most situations and when alone. Give us a good baseline to judge this character before you post)

[B]Favorite Thing:[/B] (Something for fun. What do they value most? Is it an activity or an object or anything else?)

People! People! Please, take your time! We've got a lot of interest here, so I'll give it til mid-weekend to start off. Give everyone time to put up a CS of their own so I can put people in different threads and such.

If that's not okay with you, don't fret. You can still join in at a later time, and we can allocate new players to their own thread if they join en masse.

I'm liking the CS's so far, good variety! Especially Ira Hawkins. I had an idea for a character like him once. I think I called him "Evolution Man" or something. thatguy, you're gonna have to go over your CS just a bit before I can let you join up. Everyone else is free to play.

Twisted! My man! Thanks for your compliments of the CS! If I'm gone tomorrow (or completely checked the hell out), don't be shy to look at players and add them if need be. And I'll level with ya, the "fire and ice" thing didn't hit me until just now. X)

I might have my own personal CS today. I might just introduce the best superhero ever... I'm pretty sure Twisted knows what I'm talkin' about!
