    Gotham City: No Man's Land

Journal Entry #001, No Man's Land

This is harder than I thought it would be. But someone has to tell the story of what happened, someone has to finally put the truth out there for everyone to see. At this point even the media is beginning to ask how we got to this. The deadliest trick the devil ever played on Gotham was letting President Luthor tell the American public they couldn't assist Gotham at the moment. As short an attention span as the masses can have such a statement has left us, and Gotham, to die.

Thousands have died. Millions are injured. The city is a twisted dark reflection of it's former self that's been carved up mostly by psychos.

But there are some of us left, and we're either far too dedicated or far too crazy to ever give up.

I pray you never find out which. I pray you never read these words.

If you're reading this, it means we lost. And someone has to tell that story.

My name was once Batgirl. Now it's Oracle.

But really, I'm Barbara Gordon, and my Dad would kill me if he knew any of this.

This won't be a canon experience. Some storylines will begin following canon routes, and veer. Others will be original. You may apply for any character you like, though Luthor and Wayne are currently storyteller NPCs. I have no plans for either Dick Grayson or Tim Drake to appear in the game; Nightwing has his own problems with Bludhaven receiving it's own good share of damage and losses. Tim Drake is off world with the Teen Titans. (However both Dick and Tim can be applied for.)

The main difference between the comic 'No Man's Land' and this game is narrative. The game is half sand box, half plot driven.

While a great deal of the city has been destroyed, some of it was spared total destruction. Wayne Tower still stands, although with certain damage. Lucius Fox remains locked in Wayne Tower with the Wayne Enterprises security force, doing what he can from where he is, while waiting on his boss. Gotham City's Knights Stadium has survived relatively well intact. As does the major downtown city and county courthouses. The Iceberg Lounge survives, with it's top bird Oswald Cobblepot doing remarkably good business, able to find nearly anything a person might find--for the right, and usually incredibly steep, price.

Arkham Asylum went dark right after the quake, and nothing has been heard from the max security facility that houses some of Gotham's worst. Eyewitness reports say the building looks to have received significant damage. Who survived and who lost their life remains one of the biggest questions for those inside, and outside, the city.

What characters are we? GCPD trying to maintain order? Or thugs making for a territory grab? Random Civilian trying to survive? Or an Arkham inmate?
Have you ever wondered how fast lightning would go if it didn't zig-zag?

The idea is to play whatever you'd like that fits both the setting and the story. =)

So, yes. GCPD, canon characters, etc.

The story revolves around the Joker, Lex Luthor, and the GCPD.

Probably the best 'fit' would be GCPD folks, capes (anyone from Nightwing to Knight), and rogues. Can't have enough bad folks making pain for others, and might even see a few rogues fight with the good guys to get their city back.

I'm definitely down for this, Ruby.

Though...I have a question. Can you make an OC that links to a canon? Say make a son of Deathstroke or being taught by David Cain or even a former bodyguard for Ra's Al Ghul?

Uh, yeah. You'd need to figure out what the hell he was up to/into, but sure.

That's fine. It's possible the Al Ghul's might have a role in things, so anyone with historical ties might get surprised later. =)
