New Life /// Invader Len & Jealous Angel D

    Elizabeth “Liz” Vollified
    21 years old

Biography: Centuries ago, from the ashes of chaos, Chronos was born. Elizabeth cared for her children and established her law within the shadows of the night. However, all of that ended twenty-one years ago when Elizabeth was killed only to be reborn. Her parents showered her with love, for the aging couple had long been told that they would never have children. It was only luck that she retained her name. Early on she learned that she needed to blend in with human society. So for twenty-one years she’s been living as a human keeping her powers a secret – as they are not powerful enough for her to even begin to seek revenge.
Personality: Liz always carries with her a sense of superiority. Yet, while she comes off as being “better than thou”, she cares for those who are weaker than she is. She follows what she believes to be truth and is too stubborn to ask for help should she ever need it. While she has resigned herself to being human, she still carries a deep seeded hatred for those around her and a sorrow for not being strong enough to stop what happened.

    ---

Life was not enjoyable. Long has she resigned herself to the mediocre tasks of the human life. She was currently living away from home and working at getting a college degree in History. Perhaps she could have applied herself to a different career. She had enough years of knowledge that most things would probably come to her. However, it was always interesting to read history form a textbook – to see how humans had recorded what had happened. Then again, maybe she should have gone into studying the supernatural. However, no matter how much Elizabeth desired to return to the past she couldn’t. She was a human now.

Liz raised her hand as she bid farewell to her group of friends. The night was young so the rest had decided to party the night away after having studying for several hours. While usually she would tag along to at least do something with her miniscule life, tonight was not one of those nights. Her plan was to head back to her apartment and enjoy a cup of tea before resting. Perhaps she’d travel home to her parents the next day and check up on them. They had somehow put up with a feisty, stubborn vampire human for the past twenty-one years. The least she could do was pretend to be a good daughter.

A chill traveled down her spine as she heard a set of footsteps behind her. Just because she was human didn’t mean that she was helpless. So she kept on walking, picking up her speed just a little bit. As expected the footsteps increased their pace as well. Swearing under her breath, she swung her head around to try to get a look at who was following her. Not even a second later her head collided with the brick wall of the nearby building. Instinct kicked in and she lashed out at her attacker. She managed to get in a good right hook and a solid kick. However her moves didn’t seem to do much as once more her head smacked against the wall.

It didn’t make sense. She was stronger than any normal human – as she had not lost all of the strength she had possessed as a vampire. She shook her head as she tried to clear the blur in front of her eyes – trying to ignore the feeling of blood that oozed down the back of her head. In the light of the moon she caught the glimpse the fanged smile of her attacker. Anger rose within her at the thought that a measly vampire had her cornered. However, her eyes quickly widened as she caught sight of an hourglass branded upon the vampire’s neck. Chronos.

"Haaa, ne, can't you find something better to eat, Mr. Mosquito? Something perhaps a little less noisy?" came a light voice from behind the pair. A young man was leaning against the building parallel to them, a smile on his face. He was dressed rather casually, in a loose button down shirt and pants, white hair in a ponytail. The one pinning the human up against a wall turned, revealing it's face. It was a man, possibly older than the girl, in a clean crisp suit suit with a tattoo on his neck.
"Heh, what's it to you, eh? You don't seem to care very much, lemme eat in peace!" he barked, turning back to the girl when the man called out again.
"Aha! But I do care, Mr. Mosquito! Look at the moon, the stars! It's not often you get to see them come out so vividly in the city, whose own glorious light flushes out all others. Let us not hurt them by staining their sight with blood, nee? Surely you can ignore your hunger to cherish these lights?"
The vampire only scoffed, sneering, keeping a hand pinned on the girl's throat.
"What do I care about the moon and shit, fucking hippie? You're pissing me off!"
"Mr. Mosquito, I also don't want to shed blood on this glorious night. Leave the child, so that I will not have to."
"Is that a threat, you piece of shit?! Once I'm done here, I'm coming after you, yellow fuc-" Sad to say, he was interrupted by the other man's cane smashing into his face, breaking through the bones in his face and impaling him through his head. The young man pulled his walking stick from the skull of the corpse, letting it crumple to the ground. Pulling out a hankerchief, he started wiping the blood off of the silver-tipped weapon.

"Haaa, I tried to warn him. It really is sad, shedding blood like this. Such a waste. And I was so looking forward to going out and getting drunk tonight too. Hmmmm, what to do now, what to do?" he said to himself, sounding as if he was talking about a disappointment in weather than murdering a vampire. Seeming to remember the girl's presence, he turned to her, smiling again.
"Nee, girly, you alright there? You're bleeding? Ah, such sloppy work. Really, it's truly despicable when they hurt them before killing them. They should take a lesson from humans. Humans care so much for their food that they go to great lengths to ensure their comfort before death. If only these mosquitoes were as considerate." he lamented, kneeling down by the girl, offering her his hand.
    "Can you stand, nee?"

Great, just great. This is exactly what I need – a hunter, Liz thought as she slid down to the ground. She rested her back against the wall – not quite feeling up to moving just yet. Her mind was reeling from what had just happened. Of all vampire clans, she had been attacked by a member of Chronos – or a Chronos wannabe. After all, she had been there to see the destruction of what she had created – the last one to perish at the end of that fight.

Lifting her hand, she gently felt the back of her skull and the blood that was oozing down her neck. “Brilliant,” she grumbled before turning her attention to the hunter who just kept on talking. She had only been half listening to what he had said – rather annoyed that he had appeared quite suddenly the save the day. “I’m good. Really.” She finally stood up without taking his hand. “I had everything under control – you really didn’t need to step in and save the day like some prince on a white horse.”

She paused for a moment as she thought. Being so confident after a vampire attack was probably not the smartest thing she had ever done. Any normal person would have been freaking out, or in shock. They would have welcomed and praised their savior – hoping he wouldn’t leave until they were safe. However, it was too late to act like the damsel in distress now. “What’s your name?”

Dee raised his eyebrows at the girl's attitude towards him, surprised at how calm she was after nearly being killed. Now normally he was supposed to kill the would-be victims too, if they'd seen too much. The church usually arranged their death within a week after the incident, disguising them as accidents or illness. He didn't do that. He usually killed them right after killing the vampire, comforting them and making it quick, so that they didn't have to live with that false hope of survival days before death. This girl didn't seem interested in his usual ploy, however. And her quoting control, had she had run-ins with vampires before?

When she asked his name, he pondered what to say. There could be no harm in telling her, if she proved useless, it wasn't like she'd be telling many people.
"My name? Ah, my name is Fan Dee, most call me Dee. I work for the Catholic church's Heretic Excommunication branch. You don't seem very shaken up about being attacked, nee? But that means that you already know what those mosquitoes are then? And if you know what they are, that means you already know what I am, and what I'm supposed to do with you?" he asked curiously, finishing cleaning the blood off his cane. He peered closer at her over the brim of his glasses.
"Or maybe you knew the mosquito personally? You're glancing at his corpse quite a bit. Don't worry, he won't be coming back. Vampire's don't handle silver well. It burns them. I wonder..." he murmured, tapping the silver tip of the cane against the girl's forehead.

Liz had not expected him to suspect that she was a vampire - after all she had just been attacked by one. Then again, it sort of made sense for him to suspect such a thing. There was a chance that she was trying to play damsel in distress to catch a hunter off guard. It was the most likely explanation for her calm behavior. Then again, she wasn't doing a good job of acting a damsel in distress if that was the case. It was reflexes that cause her to lift her hands and push the cane aside the instant it touched her skin. Her heart jumped in her chest as she felt her forehead sting only slightly. It was not a burn - there was no sizzling of flesh. She was slightly surprised that she even felt a slight nip of pain - she was human after all. At least that's what she thought. Apparently her soul and her powers still rejected silver.

"After seeing what you just did with this thing, I don't want it anywhere near my head," it seemed like a reasonable explanation for her quick response. "So if you'd excuse me, I'd like to be getting home."

She had no desire to be around the vampire hunter for any longer than she had to. There was a high probability that he'd make her his next target, and she just couldn't stand for that. She had other things to worry about.

Dee didn't force the cane closer to her when she pushed it away, putting it back on the ground and leaning onto it as the girl attempted to excuse herself from his presence. That wasn't good. Him leaving her meant that he was finished with her, meaning she was prey once again. And he hadn't quite rid himself of his nagging suspicions just yet.
"Oi, girly, wait up a moment, nee? Does the name Chronos mean anything to you?" he called, stepping in front of her, attempting to not look threatening. He saw it. A twitch. A wrinkle. A glimmer of thought. That was all he needed. This girl knew something.
"And, if you do, or if you don't, have you ever heard of the name Elizabeth Vollified? Or maybe Lillith Gremory? Even Viktor Karrelhoff?" He could see it, sense it. An awareness. He smiled at her gently, as a way to reassure her.
"Now now, girly, don't you be scared. Even if you don't know them, if doesn't matter much. These are but the names of dead mosquitoes. Not many remember them anymore. Except those who have heard of them. Names are funny like that. Speaking of which..."

He knelt down in front of her, since the height difference between them was great, the long and lanky Dee almost towering over the girl. His face didn't look threatening, hardly even that of a killer. It looked like the pleasant, innocent face of a big brother figure, a guardian-like face. His narrow eyes widened slightly, showing white eyes that seemed to almost glow in the dim light, his slitted pupils contracting as he smiled, a smile made more sinister by the sight of his eyes.
    "What's your name, girly?"

She tried to lift herself to her feet, her hand upon the wall. However the hunter just kept on talking. She tried to tune him out, but it was impossible to not react as she heard him mention Chronos. She ground her teeth together, not about to give the man a response. But there he was - in her face asking for her name. He had the audacity to call her a mosquito and then ask for her name?

"Get away from me," she growled as the air around her shifted ever so slightly before a gust of power pushed the hunter away from her, slamming him against another building. With her hand against the wall, she stood up tall and moved towards him. The air whipped around her as she allowed her powers so run wild. She was still powerful, however being human she knew that her kinetic abilities didn't last too long. The smart thing would be to run away, to retreat to a sanctuary before she grew weak. But anger clouded her judgement as she rushed at the hunter, managing to wrap her hands around his throat as she used the pressure of the air to keep him down. Her eyes seemed to glow as they had once before such a long time ago. "Not many remember now, as you so kindly pointed out. But I am not some dead mosquito, thank you very much."

Rather than be afraid or shocked as many would have, with her hand pinned against his throat, Dee merely smiled pleasantly at her, a satisfied smile.
"Well now. You've told me much more than I expected to know. I thought you might have been some innocent human girl who simply had seen a vampire, or survived a previous attack. I would have never expected you would be a Rinato." he said softly, slightly amazed that one existed.
"I never used to believe they existed. And yet here one stands before me. You must not be a very smart one though. A, you were very nearly eaten by one of your previous kind, and B, you just revealed your identity to the wrong group of people. Wrong for you, that is. However, I don't think I'll report you just yet. I've never seen a Rinato before, I think you're rather interesting to observe." he said, his body seeming to melt into the shadows and disappear from Elizabeth's grasp. Before the girl could react or realize what had just happened, Dee materialized behind her, leaning once again on his silver-tipped cane.

"So, we'll keep this our little secret for now, won't we girly? Do try not to get caught again, I wouldn't want the fun to end so soon. And you never did answer my question. Ah, well, I suppose I'll find out one way or another. I'll see you around, my little Rinato~" he called, taking off and running down the alley, disappearing into a crowded and dark night.

Liz stumbled as her grip disappeared on the man. She ground her teeth together as she slowly turned to look at the man – no creature who was now standing behind her leaning against his cane. Rinato? The name sounded familiar, but her anger didn’t disappear. She did keep her mouth closed though as he continued to talk. He was going to keep this a secret? So she was now just something to observe – to provide him with some entertainment. She didn’t like that idea.

However, there was nothing for her to do as he disappeared off into the night. She swore before taking a long deep breath. The air around her grew calm as she began to move away from the dead vampire who was beginning to decay and turn to dust. If she didn’t have a headache before from getting her head bashed into the wall, she sure had one now. “You handled that brilliantly, Liz, just brilliantly. Might as well start a bonfire while you’re at it and summon as much trouble as possible,” she grumbled to herself.

As she walked down the street there was only one thing she wanted to do now that the anger disappeared – and that was to get some sleep. She’d put together a more detailed plan on how to handle things after a good night’s rest.

Dee hated coffee. It always tasted rancid and bitter to him, who had picky tastes and an enormous sweet tooth. Really, it was only bearable with the most amount of milk and sugar possible, and the barista at the counter watched him with worry as he poured spoonful after spoonful of the powdered sweetness into his cup. He didn't usually get up in the mornings, but he decided to change his habit today, and so far it had proved rewarding. He loved spring mornings now, the chirping of birds and the scent of dew on the grass. He waved pleasantly to a pair of children on their way to school, who innocently waved back before giggling at the strange man's appearance.

It was true, he was rather eye-catching. A tall, Asian man with white hair longer than a girl's, he was often mistaken as an old woman from behind. His black-collar shirt was worn and had stains from coffee and chalk on it, and the silk shoes he wore were pointed at the toe, like some ballerina's slipper. And then there was his cane, which lay in his lap and wrapped in newspaper. He wasn't terribly odd-looking, but he stood out enough from the crowd to draw someone's attention with his constant smiling.

From the railing of the cafe he could see the door of the dorm building across from him open, and out came the little Rinato from the last night. It hadn't been hard to find her, she had a very distinct scent and had been very noisy and careless when going home. He'd taken care of yet another mosquito not long after he'd left her, they seemed drawn to her like flies to honey. She didn't seem to realize the danger around her though, she hadn't even picked up that there had been a slayer around until after she'd been attacked.
"Nihao, ne! Good morning! Do you have a moment for breakfast? It's a beautiful morning to eat with friends!" he called to her, waving his arms so she could see him. He hoped she would be more sociable in the morning than she had before. Or that at least she wouldn't be violent again.
