I know you don't like hospitals, but it's not a bad idea to let them get some of the good medicine in you. Seeing as you're almost at 103... I wouldn't even recommend driving there yourself. I'd see if you could get someone else to take you there. Fluids are important, but as you said you've reached the point where consuming them is nauseating. I'd strongly recommend going to the doctor's.
    What.
    A 103 is actually serious?
    . . .
    What about 109.6?

I trust you went to a professional? That's extremely serious and the fact that no brain damage occurred is a blessing.

Yes 103 is serious. Any fever is, to a varying degree. As Sebas said though, if it increases do see a doctor, the last thing you want is to be stuck at home with a rising fever.

I allegedly had a 109.4-degree fever from when I was two or so. Apparently I was thrown into an ice bath, and, due to the fact that they didn't have enough time to screw around, one of the nurses just jammed a large needle into my left hand in order to administer the drip instead of waste time in looking for a vein.

The scar it left has been pretty useful, though, considering I don't even have to think about which side is left or right - I have a permanent mark telling me. ;D

    O.o

    Well...

    1) If it was brief... As in it spiked to that temperature then dropped back below 105/104... Then brain damage would have been avoided
    2) The thermometer could have been faulty, I guess...?
    3) Ginger ale really wasn't the best fluid you could have consumed, but definitely not the worst. Ginger has a lot of medicinal properties. So kudos for not drinking... I dunno. Coffee. Its acidity and caffeine content probably would have done more harm than good.
    4) JESUS CHRIST, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?

Children can handle higher fevers than adults for longer periods of time, but throwing you in an ice bath was probably the best solution to start lowering your temperature. The IV story makes me cringe though. I can't really stand needles all too well.
