    Roleplay taboos?

Most of us have something we absolutely won't roleplay. What are yours? I'd have to say that mine is pedophilia. However, including it in a character's backstory is fine. I just wouldn't be comfortable playing it out.

What would make this any different from what is considered socially taboo? I think what you simply cannot wrap your head around in terms of interest would be a more appropriate question; for example, for me, steampunk is "taboo"—I consider it a weird fetish which people attempt to gain some kind of sexual pleasure from.

Steampunk isn't sexual at all, only if you make it into something sexual.

What is it then that makes it so fascinating? Because this looks more like BDSM than anything else.

    Vampires and fandoms in general.

The same thing that makes Sci-fi fascinating.

Ah yes, fandoms is another one for me too. However, I will use established fandom universes if original characters are being played.

Steampunk's more just a cool thing to dress up/act as, like cosplay or Halloween. Sure, some people might be a bit out of the norm, but that's like me pointing to a heavy romance 1v1 RP and saying "I don't like forum roleplaying. It's all some sort of weird fetish."

As for the thread's topic, I don't think there's anything I wouldn't RP under the appropriate circumstances... but I try to stay away from shadow powers and stuff. Basically everyone used those in the last forum I was at.

They were a couple, if you read the summary. That seems more romance to me (if an odd type) than anything sexual. Basing the actions of people around the genre over the genre itself is rather close-minded. Many people dress up as Star Wars characters. Is Star Wars, then, "a weird fetish people attempt to gain sexual pleasure from"?
    (Above not meant offensively)

Anyway, my own personal roleplaying taboo would also be fandoms. That, and while I like to read Sci-Fi, I do not like to roleplay it. I feel many people work more on their world's technology and logistics and all that over the plot. Because of that, I am afraid to post a CS, thinking I'll irritate them if I envisioned their world differently, or went against some unspoken decree. I just feel it's rather picky.

I generally don't like posting a CS since I tend to like allowing my characters to develop as the RP does, although I will do them if the RP requires it. Different experiences change people and if you already have a pre-established personality I feel there's not as much room to explore this.
