Plot

In the year 2022, the Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG), Sword Art Online (SAO), is released. With the Nerve Gear, a virtual reality helmet that stimulates the user's five senses via their brain, players can experience and control their in-game characters with their minds.

On November 6, 2022, all the players log in for the first time, and subsequently discover that they are unable to log out. They are then informed by Kayaba Akihiko, the creator of SAO, that if they wish to be free, they must reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if their avatars die in-game, their bodies will also die in the real world.

Our characters have just arrived in the world of Aincrad, and are looking forward to a day's worth of exploring and excitement. But what turns out to be an innocent day of gaming quickly turns into the battle to survive.


Rules

• No godmodding/Mary Sues/Gary Stus. This will be strictly enforced.
• On that note, open discussion is vital. I don't want drama OOC, but I want us to be able to communicate effectively if there's a problem.
• Drama IC is encouraged to whatever extent we'd like. Again, communication with each other OOC is key.
• Spell-checking and grammar editing is highly encouraged.
• No one-liners. Give a decent amount of description and interaction.
• If you have to have an extended leave of absence (~2 days or more) or need to leave the RP, LET US KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. We can make arrangements.

Background:
Zachary lives with his father, his parents having divorced many years ago when he was only a child. He doesn't often see or hear from his mother, something that hits deep for him. Because of this, he puts himself forward to take care of those weaker than himself, almost with a parental touch. Zach has an older brother who he looks up to a lot, since he is a professional gamer, which is something that Zachary aspires to be. His father was one of the Graphic Designers who worked on SAO and was gifted with two sets of NerveGear and two copies of Sword-Art-Online for each of his sons on completion of the game and it's release to the public. Zachary is one of the first people to enter the world of Aincrad.

His knowledge of MMOs is quite vast and knows how to play as a Solo player rather efficiently. However, that is also how his brother, Jake, plays. And so, to separate himself from his older brother, Zach leaned more toward the leadership role. During his time playing MMOs such as WoW, Guild Wars and RaiderZ, Zachary has made a name for himself as a ruthless but kind guild leader. Something that he intends to copy over to Sword-Art-Online. Using his age old gamer pseudonym 'Rin', he hopes to attract gamers from other MMOs to join him in their newest gaming adventure.

Appearance:

Zachary is 5'8" almost 5'9" in height. He has medium-length, Brunette hair and striking, Sapphire eyes. His body is not as athletically trained as his brother's (who, despite his gaming lifestyle, very much likes to keep in shape) but he has conditioned himself somewhat at his father's advice, prior to playing the game. In the many months before the game was released, Zachary underwent a rather passive training regime to keep his body in good check and hopefully give him a leading edge within SAO.

Background: Growing up, Marcus was always addicted to video games. He would play them for hours and not stop until his eyes were bloodshot. Despite the fact he didn't play many sports or even run around outside like normal kids, Marcus always seemed to maintain a psychically active body figure, standing at 5"8 and weighing at about 120 lbs. Left by his parents when he was three, his 8 year old brother, Genga Robertson and his aunt, Jenny Milsbury, Marcus grew up with so many questions in his head. Why did his parents leave? Why couldn't his brother and Marcus go with them? What did it accomplish for them when they left with nothing but the clothes on their backs and an emergency suitcase? Marcus didn't know, and honestly didn't care.

As he grew up, Marcus was never really a social person. He always preferred talking to people via the Internet or a video game, rather then talking in person. He's not the most popular guy, but he's a pretty cool guy once you get to know him better. Years and years of video game preparation have taught him many things, ranging from how to kill a giant robot with nothing but a small white gun that shoots holes, how to kick ass as an Italian plumber, how to break Mach 4 speed as a crystal powered blue hedgehog, and tons more. Hell, a lot of the most useful things he learned in life either came from video games or movies. But, there's not too much to be said about Marcus aside from the fact he's an orphan. However, he has recently purchased a copy of one of the most hyped games this year, "Sword Art Online". He's always loved MMO's, so he would never pass up the opportunity for one that is apparently so good and harnesses the power of Virtual Reality so well, you'll feel as if you've been teleported into a different world.

Background: Chris was born and raised in a sheltered Cornish town, bereft of electricity and the trappings of modern society. His parents were hard-line Luddites, convinced that technology was the Devil's work and a test from God. After two decades of living as the only unbeliever in the village, Chris managed to secure a place in university, studying Far Eastern Languages. During his time studying in London, the world opened up and he became 'corrupted'. He grew from a rebellious teen into a gentle, relaxed adult, tolerant of all, except the deeply devout.

After completing his degree with a high mark, Chris undertook a permanent post-study exchange programme to Japan, working as a teaching assistant in a local high school. It was here that his interest in MMORPGs was born. The students saw him as more of a friend than a teacher and dragged him out to internet cafe's to play. After a few years of playing all manner of MMOs, he was rather well versed and convinced himself to try the new VRMMORPG, Sword Art Online.

Perhaps not the best decision of his life.

Chris uses humour as a shield, a way to hide his insecurities and anxieties. When pressed into a stressful situation, he will often break into a smile, throwing up a front of cheerfulness. Due to events in his religious past, he has long since lost faith in himself and humanity as a whole, giving him an attitude of amused fatalism. He is at peace with he fact that at any time and in any place, he might find his end; may as well face it with a smile.

Appearance: In real life, Chris is not particularly well groomed, with a mess of greying black hair, a ragged goatee and a pair of half-moon glasses. Since Kayaba's 'gift' of the Mirror, his avatar has reverted back to his real life image. He now stands around five foot seven, with wide shoulders and the beginnings of a soft beer belly; while not fat, Chris had enjoyed the finer things in life and so had an extra layer of comfort, as he liked to put it. Through fortune, his grey-black hair is fairly tidy ingame, tucked back behind his ears and flowing down to the bottom of his neck. He wears a dark grey-green cloak over his chainmail armour, with his sword sheathed over his right shoulder under the cloak.

Background:
Amy was raised as the daughter of a wealthy CEO and a successful realtor, her father and mother both being away for extended periods of time since Amy was small. While still active in school activities and her studies, Amy has learned to be self-sufficient and independent, sometimes leading her to opt for her own company rather than the company of groups or even other individuals. She is not averse to socializing however, and while she may be more quiet when around others or wouldn't be all too keen on going to huge parties, she does enjoy the company of those she trusts. When provoked though, she is not afraid to speak her mind or raise the volume quite a few notches. When angry, it isn't uncommon for her to curse (an 'inherited' trait from her father). She currently attends college and lives with her roommate, Becca.

With her spare time, Amy plays many different video games, starting with her first console, the Xbox 360. With her father's influence, she was able to secure one of the first 10,000 copies of Sword Art Online as well as her own NerveGear helmet. She's not necessarily the most dedicated of gamers, but she has prided herself on thoroughly beating obnoxious males on occasion.


Appearance:

Amy/Lena stands at about 5'4", with long dark auburn hair that nearly matches the rich color of her eyes. Although she is rather slim, she isn't all that muscular or strong. She has a small tattoo of a black feather on her left shoulder with the words "Sometimes when you fall you fly" traced beneath it.

Her current SAO form is similar to her real appearance in terms of body type and age, though she's opted for dark brown for her hair color and bright blue for her eyes. Her current clothing consists of a basic white blouse and dark grey skirt, with a deep purple cloak around her shoulders.

Personality: Kagoma is a goal driven and direct girl. Once she has set her sights on something it is near impossible to stop her unless it involves her hurting someone else she will stop at nothing to achieve or obtain whatever it is she wants. Kagoma is a person who believes “what one earns is what one deserves” and lives by those words letting them define her life. Because she has this defining quality, it’s difficult for her to make friends, however, the few she does have will say openly she has the loyalty that rivals dogs, although her goals are her top priority if she knows a friend is in danger this girl will jump right into the face of danger to pull them out of hell itself its what balances her tunnel visioning for what she wants.

Kagoma is a beta test of SAO, and even though she never got that far up in the beta she learned about a few things that made her want to switch to being a beast tamer and she now searches for that behemoth of a monster in the actual game.

Bio: Kagoma is a star student at her school the stereotypical child prodigy an all-around all-star in both books and sports but unlike those that adored her there was a secret she harbored; she hated every minute of every second of it. Her life in her eyes got so mundane and tedious, which lead her to into becoming a beta tester for a brand new game called sword art online. The moment she dove into the game she was hooked, this was nothing like her shell of a life this was something fresh and exciting with different things happening around every corner; nothing was expected and that’s what she loved about the game. Kagoma was a completely different person in sword art online, everything she hated about her real life that tied her down and that refused her freedom was gone even more amazing she smiled every time she logged on.

In her room alone in the dark with the door always locked she could be anything she wanted in this new life it was so exciting never knowing what’s next in store for her. So when it was announced that SAO was keeping the monster she had seen in the beta getting the real game was an absolute must. However before she could set out to claim and tame it the GM’s sinister plot was reviled throwing players into a fury of chaos and hysteria; Kagoma however, was the only player who wasn’t moved into a frenzy, in fact it was quite the opposite her blood was pumping from sure adrenalin this was the extra kick she needed!

Background:
Terry is a gamer through and through. If given the chance he will devote every moment of his time to his latest game. He has a job as a waiter to help pay for his games, and his parents have all but given up him becoming a truly functioning member of society. Terry’s latest obsession has been virtual reality games. He had been waiting years for a game like SAO. He camped out for days waiting for the release. His devotion to beating games is astounding. He will try to find ways around systems and attempt to make characters who dominate opposition. Terry hopes the SAO system will stop him from doing this and give him a real challenge.

Terry’s personality is simple. He wants to win, and have fun doing it. He is intelligent but always uses his gifts for games. He will grind for days waiting for drops, or to level a character. Few people can keep up with his determination. With the rise of SAO Terry is also hoping to come across others who can keep up with him. In MMO's that hes played Terry bounced around man different guilds. No guild could keep up with the amount of time he would put in and would get overwhelmed. So Terry would move on and hope for a better one.

Background: Daughter of a poor family most of Alicia's experience with games came from her friend's help or the ones she earned herself. She got to try the beta for SAO when one of her friends let her use his account. She instantly got hooked and spent every moment she could saving up to get the equipment and the game herself. She barely managed to get it in time for the release, and she was lucky enough to acquire the last copy of the game in the store she went to.

She's a very social gamer and likes to group up with other people, but also likes to take the front lines in combat because she got really good as a tank her few times she got to play her friend's account.
