Beyond Good and Evil
N.A.M.I. space adventure interest check
This is something i tried a long while back, but plain bad luck ended it before it could really get started.
The story.
Space has always been fascinating to humans. We knew that, one day, we would be able to freely fly through the cosmos, but we never expected it would be quite like this...

When space was made practical, affordable even, by the discovery of a new technology, dozens of nations began construction on huge motherships and combat vessels. Science groups began building elaborate research ships. Enterprising resource harvesting companies began developing new technologies of their own to allow them to collect the bounties of space. After only 50 years, space was filled with all kinds of people, ranging from simple businessmen and traders to ruthless killers, riddling helpless ships full of holes and watching the bodies of the inhabitants get sucked out into the vacuum of space. at the end of the 22 century, yet another breakthrough occurred, in the form of SHIELD warping. With this new technology, humans branched out to other planets in the neighboring galactic arm. Profits for traders skyrocketed as massive ships moved goods between earth, the universes premiere manufacturing center, and a super-massive space station known as Ormea, the galaxies largest center of raw material production. Ormea soon become the center of exploration and human progress in space, and was surrounded by dozens of almost-inhabitable systems and moons. It began to develop its own political system, and organizations began to form. The traders and transporters joined under the flag of "The Guild" to protect their interests. Adventurers fell into the ranks of the "omega" company, and the wide variety of resource harvesters willingly came under the control of the OMA. While space was the premier scene for human expansion, to fly in the cosmos of Ormea became one of the most dangerous life style any human could ever live. For every five members of Omega, OMA, and the guild, there was at least one 'Pirate', yet another group to form in the expanse of space. this ruthless confederation of smaller clans made their way by murdering people and attacking guild ships, either as a contract or simply to claim some of the cargo. With this, ships began to arm themselves. The guild found that turrets were next to useless against the fast moving assault craft, and began to hire out pilots from Omega, who, thrilled with the concept, began sending their pilots out on escort missions with the guild factions.
Things are always changing in space, however, and even now one of the science vessels, Orion, is beginning to make a name for itself. The ship was at one point noted just for its size, being the largest science vessel launched to date, being only slightly smaller than the Guild Jumpers. Soon, however, it will become infamous, rather than famous.
Now for a few details about the universe.
Tech is still somewhat conventional at this stage, and humanity is still trying to work out a lot of kinks in existing in space. For example the current issues with turrets not being useful against smaller craft, or shield's not being usable for larger ships like the Orion. Everyone is still using ballistics and missiles too. Energy shields don't maintain atmosphere, so when you dock with something you have to land, the doors have to close and change the pressure, then the platform lifts/lowers you into the bay. What we do have is spacesuits that look basically like biker outfits. They aren't bulky and heavy like ours are now and could even fit kinda like casual cloths.

Almost all ships are powered by nuclear fission, so even a small ship would have an enormous supply of power, though the same doesn't apply for air, food, or water. The technology that forms the ships energy shields and enables it to jump are the same device, SHIELD. Warping distance is directly proportional to the size of the SHIELD engine. This is why the larger ships are able to jump considerably further than a strike craft, and are able to do it more frequently due to the fact that they have multiple fission engines.
So basically, this will largely be an open sandbox game, with the Orion (the ship you see above) being the vessel that will follow the main plot. Whether you are a pirate, mercenary, trader, miner, racer, smuggler, a member of the Orion or (almost) any combination, doesn't mater to me. All i care about is that, whatever path you chose, you take a person or two along with you to keep things moving. You can even be an antagonist working against the Orion. Just keep in mind that, as a plot driving character, I will be on the Orion, therefore that's where a lot of the action is going to be!
With that being said, here are a few suggestions for Orion crew: Medical, helmsman, fighter escort, scientist, structural engineer, security, cook, and atmospheric technician.
This will be our CS, feel free to post them here, as i will be keeping on official list on in the OP of the OOC thread, for convenience sake.

Eleven can't lead the way
I'm interested, not sure about a character though. I'd wanna see what others are doing.
To anyone else, if you need a member for a group of Pirates or Mercenaries I'll be open to it.
