No matter how hard I try, I can't a picture for my profile/album to show... Could someone please help me?

Are you sure you're not confusing "profile picture" with "avatar"?

Your profile picture is the image that appears only on your actual profile. Your avatar is the image that appears under your name when you post- for example this is mine, currently.

To add an avatar, you need to click "edit avatar" on your Settings page. Its on the same sidebar as "edit signature" and "edit profile picture".
