    Kipling's Finest

I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand.

The British Empire, at its height, covered three fourths of the globe and dominated the world. From the steep highlands of Scotland to the humid jungles of India, from the hot deserts of Sudan and Egypt to the cold, rocky shores of the Falklands, the sun never set on the British Empire. In the seas, the Royal Navy, armed with the most technological ships Britain could build, ruled. On land, the British Army was second to none. From the elite Coldstream Guards and Black Watch to the meagre Indian regiments raised in the Raj, she could muster the largest army from her massive empire. During the reign of Queen Victoria, Britain went from an island nation, controlling bits of Africa, India, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to a world power, with the best technology and armed forces.

Many tell the tales of the Light Brigade's glorious albeit fatal charge, or of the brave defenders of Khartoum, but who speaks of the garrison of the Falklands? Or the watch on the Pillars of Hercules? No one speaks of the border guards along Afghanistan, or the naval ships in the Indian Ocean. The unsung heroes of the Empire must be spoken of! From the Gurkhas of Nepal, the sailors of the Pacific, the guardians of the Mediterranean, their stories must be told.

Essentially, I want this RP to be a good story of British colonial troops during the Victorian era. I'm expecting an acceptable suspension of 'truth' for the sake of story, so we could have a mix-mash of different people in one regiment, such as Afrikaners, Indians, Australians, and Brits serving together in one regiment. I do also expect this to end up going into alternate history, since I doubt anyone wants to spend the RP mucking about along the border with Afghanistan or sitting about in Singapore. I'm not quite sure if I'll do this in the army or the navy. It's really a tossup. All that I can say is that we'll put it sometime in the 1890s.

Also, as per usual, don't expect anything out of me. I've been known to forget about these ideas.

This will also be Casual, for those who would think this is Advanced/Free. Proper grammar will not only be expected, but ruthlessly maintained. One or two slip-ups are allowed, and pretty much expected, but please try to be literate.

Last bit, I really expect you to have at least somewhat of a grasp on the British Empire, the 19th and 20th century history, and the militaries, technology, and society of that era. I don't care you aren't the expert in that area, but please don't join unless you know what we're doing.

I can say I am interested, and while I don't know much of British traits during that era, I would be willing to do research for the RP.

Sounds swell. Since I got much more interest in my other thread for this, all I ask is that you post in this thread. Simply so it's easier for me to know who's joining.
