The Wyoming School for the Gifted

When the first genetically advanced humans had shown up the world had panicked. Mistrust and fear governed every mind. However as they continued to grow and more were revealed every day the world soon realized that there would be no stopping it. Several plans were put into effect, but none of them lasted very long and the backlash of several of them caused part of Huston to be blow away. But now they hoped to be past that. They hoped that this solution would last and help sooth rattled nerves. All youth that were seen to possess a 'gift' were invited to attend the Wyoming School for the Gifted. Placed in the middle of nowhere the founders hoped that there would be little chance for a repeat of Huston. Although it was only an invitation, everyone knew there wasn't much choice. They could either go there and hopefully gain better control of their gifts, or they could stay home and be mocked or mistrusted by everyone around them and try not to destroy anything. Although many of the teachers had no gift, they were all ready to do their best to give these kids another chance at a half normal life while the rest of the world caught up.

The school truly was in the middle of nowhere. Mountains to the north, and endless plains to the south with a whole lot of nothing to the east and west for about a hundred miles. It had once been owned by ranchers and so there was no worry that the neighbors might complain. When they'd bought the place a sturdy cement and brick mansion was put up. Metal linings in the walls and fireproof insulation were only a few of the many precautions they'd taken when building the place. For many of the children and teens control was something they'd come here to learn and so every consideration had been taken to insure that repairs wouldn't need to be made very often. From what they'd seen so far it was money well spent.

It was twelve o clock on a Monday, and most of the students were enjoying their lunch break for the day before the next run of classes got going. Since there were people of all ages attending the school the administrators had decided that for those who would still be in high school or middle school regular classes would be taken before lunch. For those that had already graduated they had time to study and earn college credit through online courses. Then after lunch gifted classes would begin, giving them a chance to practice and explore to see what they could really do and to (hopefully) gain better control of their gifts.

Ezra was enjoy his lunch period walking around the grounds of the school alone. He'd soon be back in a room surrounded by speaking and thoughts and wanted to savor the few minutes of quiet he got a day. With the majority of the other students eating inside he could put enough distance between them and himself that he couldn't pick up much with his telepathy. Stopping along side the fishpond to the west of the school he took in a deep breathe, enjoying the warmth of the day. He knew that in a few more short months it would be miserably cold again so he took advantage of days like this. The young man brushed his bangs out of his eyes while thinking to himself that he would need a haircut soon. He'd been avoiding it for a while since it would remove the last bit of black he still had at the tips of his hair. When his gift had shown up his hair had started growing out a navy blue color. It was silly since it was just hair, but he was sad to see it go. It was like the last of his old life before this insanity had taken over would be gone.

Pupil-less blue eyes considered the water as he looked over the slowly ripples. He thought about his time here at the school so far. It was vastly different from his life before then. Through high school he'd always been at the center of things. He loved socializing and being with other people. He made friends easily and had few fights since he knew how to keep a cool head. However that had changed when he got his gift. He'd learned quickly to keep his mouth shut about it. People didn't exactly like the idea of having no privacy from him. When he'd come here he'd become more introverted and a bit of a loner. It was easier than seeing people avoid talking to him or suffering from the headaches of being around too large of a group. The young man played with the frayed edge of the green scarf wrapped around his neck and waited for the bell to announce the next class.

He was old enough to understand what was going on in the world today, though he was a little confused as to why they are trying to restart this school for the gifted in a different state, different city. He was there when the school in Huston blew up but luckily for him, he managed to escape, along with others. A soft sigh went through his parted lips as he was on the bus, head against the window, his breath could be seen upon the window as well. Such a sad day for people like him. People with these 'gifts'. They were the most mistrusted people and they put fear in people's heart, so basically, they were in a world of their own and he hated it. He usually sit and think, wondering if his life would be easy if he didn't have a gift, didn't have to go to a school that was in the middle of nowhere, again. He leaned his head up off the window and raised his hand over his head, pulling down the cord, which made a ding sound, establishing that this was his destination. He grabbed his bookbag and slung it over his shoulder then grabbed his other two bags, full clothes, food and other necessities that he needed to get through this whole school thing.

When the bus came to a complete stop, everyone eyed him with raised brows as he walked with his lowered. He walked down the stairs that lead to the doors and got off the bus.

He was now on the sidewalk, the bus driving off behind him as he looked around and saw mountains up north and nothing but plains to the south. "Oh great, back to gifted hell I go." He said to himself as he walked up to the mansion, which was rumored that ranchers use to own it. He didn't really want to be here because what if this one blows up. Then where were they going to go. Guam? He shook his head while walking in the mansion now, looking around after closing the door. He saw that the most of the students were sitting there in the main lobby while others were at lunch. His ears twitched when he looked to his left, hearing heels clicking as a female was approaching him. "Hey there. You must be another student. Well, most of students are eating the dining hall. I'll escort you." He remained silent for now but nodded as he continued to hold on his bags, which he left against the nearest wall, along with his backpack. "Bon appetite." She said while waving her hand at the food before him.

His mind was at ease at the moment, though seeing all this food did make him a little bit hungry. He fixed himself a small plate then looked around, seeing that there were almost nowhere to sit.

Christian walked outside and sat down at one of the tables out there. He had his hood off the top of his head but he placed it back up there as he took his fork, digging around the food, not really taking a bite yet. His hazel green hues scanned the perimeter as he seen another male out there him. He gasped slightly at the sight of him as he came out of almost nowhere. There was something about this male that he couldn't put his finger on but he is probably harmless. Christian shrugged his shoulders at the thought as he pushed his plate away from himself then placed his face in his hands, letting out a well deserved sigh. He didn't want to be here with these people. He just wanted to leave this place and live a normal life.

He was more of a rebellious teen with a smart mouth. He hasn't always been that way but one day, he reached his breaking point of being too nice to people and had had enough. He ran his tanned hand through his blonde hair, pulling the hood back down as well. He took out his small journal from his hoodie pocket and started writing down about the ride here and what he has seen so far.

(Also if this helps Ezra is down on the bottom left. http://simplykafi.deviantart.com/art...ches-359507966)

Ezra's musing's were interrupted as a young man came out to eat lunch nearby. He sighed as his thoughts buzzed around his mind, it looked like his quiet time was over. He thought about walking away to be alone again but stopped. He couldn't help but notice that the other guy was upset. Even if he couldn't read minds the reasons would have been pretty obvious, after all they were in the same situation.

Curious in spite of himself he started walking towards him. He adjusted his scarf, making sure it covered his neck well, and shook his hair out of his eyes. He hadn't had a conversation with someone in a while and he wanted to make a good first impression. Reaching the table he waited for the kid to notice him before speaking. Well not exactly speaking since he communicated telepathically.

/Hello, you must be new here./ Waving towards the bench he asked, /Do you mind if I sit down?/ He sincerely hoped he would say yes, he also hoped that his way of speaking didn't startle him too much.

Christian gasped as he heard a voice. His eyes shifted between left and right as he didn't see anyone, yet.

Maybe he was losing it. Yeah, that was it. The explosion still has his mind going in a whirlwind. He shook his head then dropped his journal as he turned his head upward and seen the male before him. Christian got up out of his seat and pushed the male. "Don't you ever get inside my again, got it?" He grabbed his plate of food then stuffed his journal and pen back inside of his hoodie pocket before walking away. He looked at the male that he just pushed and stopped in his tracks, sighing a little to himself as he sat his plate down on the ledge of the small fish pond.

He walked back over to the male and apologized. "I'm sorry, it's just that you really shouldn't do that." He folded his arms over his chest and placed all his weight on his right side. "Your not mute are you?" He asked with a raised brow, regretting the push he just gave him more and more, if he was. "Well, I'm new at this facility but I also was at the one in Huston." He said with a smile then straighten himself, extending his hand out towards the male as he spoke again. "I'm Christian. You are?" He asked while waiting for the male to shake his hand and answer his question.

Ezra stood still to the side and waited for the boy to realize who was speaking. However he was worried by the boy’s train of thought. He didn’t want him to think that he was going crazy. Especially not since Christian had been through the heartache of Houston. He’d seen the memories of enough of the students who’d been there to know just how bad it had been. However it wasn’t necessary, because just as he was about to reach out and tap his shoulder he saw him and stood up.

But seeing his plan he cringed and waited for the push. As he was yelled at and the new guy stormed off he sighed and shook his head. Just what he needed, another person mad at him for something he couldn’t help. He was ready to just turn and slink back into the school to wait for the next class but paused as he heard the shift in Christian’s thoughts. So he waited for him to come back over.

He nodded at what he had to say. Leaning against the table he tried again, /Yeah, sorry. I know it’s a little freaky. But don’t feel bad about it okay? It’s a pretty common mistake./ To answer the question better he reached up and tugged down the scarf a little bit. Exposed underneath was the top of a wicked looking red scar the stretched almost all the way around his neck and probably went down to his chest as well. From the color it was still pretty recent, at least within the last few months. /I had a little…accident. So speaking mind to mind is a easier for me./

He fixed the scarf, adjusting it so that it covered the scar completely again then smiled at him. He took the hand offered him, /Ezra, nice to meet you. And welcome to the school by the way. Don’t worry,/ he assured him, /this place is nothing like what was going on in Houston./

Glancing at his watch he said, /Did they show you to the dorm rooms yet? You don’t want to leave your bags sitting in the hall for much longer. Nobody has messed with them yet, but there are a few students around here that have kleptomaniac tendencies./

Unknown to the two boys up on the third story of the mansion a silhouetted figure was watching their every move. “Another new student.” A soft female voice sounded in the dark room. “It’s been a little while, I’d thought all of the previous students from Houston had already arrived.” An older man near the door nodded, “Yes, I do believe he was the last one.” Dark red painted lips turned up in a smile, “Good, then I believe we can try this little experiment again. You’re sure the telepathic students won’t be a problem this time?”
“Very sure. None of them are powerful enough to cover the whole school yet, and the teachers don’t know the true aim of the school so there’s no danger that they’ll let the information leak like last time. Plus any of the students from Houston who knew what was going on were in the lab during the explosion. The only people who know now are us and the board of directors.”

    “Wonderful.”

((I apologize in advance for the short post.))

Seeing Ezra scar made him feel low for his comments and the push. He died a little inside. "I'm sorry about that, dude." He replied while sitting at the top of a table.

"Uhmm, I don't have a dorm yet, maybe me and you could be roommates." He said with a big smile spreading across his lips, pointing at Ezra as well. "If you already have one, that is fine." Christian stood at the top of the table then jumped down, landing on his feet like a cat. He then turned to him as he waved for him to come one. "Yeah, I'd hate to fuck someone up on the first day." He laughed while walking with his hands stuffed his hoodie pockets. He felt that something wasn't right in the air but what? He shrugged it off for now as they entered the dining hall. He leaned down and grabbed his bags, throwing his bookbag back across his back and the two other bags in his hands. "So, are you only Telepathic or do you have secondary abilities?" He asked while waiting to see where he would be staying, laying his head at night and changing his clothing.

    ((Don't worry about it ^^))

He waved him off as they walked, /Really don't even worry about it. You couldn't have known./ As they got close to the doors he laughed, although it made no noise you could tell what it was. /Well for the same reasons you pushed me earlier the rest of the guys in our class don't feel like rooming with me. Not that it makes much of a difference, their room is right next to ours./ Ezra reached over and took one of the bags from him wanting to help out.

The blue haired boy started towards the stairs with the bag, /The rooms are all on the top floor and sadly, no elevator./ As they made their way up the stairs and past the students lounging around a few of the students cast him an angry glare which he ignored with the ease of long practice. /Nope, just telepathy. But I seem to have more uses for it than the telepathic students that have a second gift. Upside it's stronger, downside I can't turn it off./ As they reached the second landing he looked at Christian curiously, /How about you? What can you do?/

He kept leading him up the stairs, which seemed to go on forever, especially since most people were heading the opposite direction and it made going up a little more difficult. There were only two more flights of stairs to go. It was strange but as big as it had looked from the outside, it was even bigger on the inside.

Christian thanked Ezra when he grabbed one of his bags then followed him towards the stairs.

While going up the stairs, he saw the angry glares that Ezra was getting from the other students, which he was ignoring but Christian wasn't having it. "Hold on, Ezra..." He said while turning to the other students, pointing at every single one of them. "Look, he is no different from you or me. So, you guys need to get that tail out of your ass and get a life." Most of the students scoffed and walked passed him as he turned to Ezra then nudged him in the shoulder. "You need to start sticking up for yourself." When the question came what do he do, he exhaled while speaking. "I can persuade people with a simple touch and sight. Also, a great fighter." He said with a smile while taking his hand out of his pocket, grabbing a hold of Ezra's hand. "Take my other bag as well please." His voice wasn't normal, it would echo throughout Ezra's mind as he waited for him to react or not.

"Man, these are a lot of stairs. Why do all the students stay on the top? Don't you find that a bit odd?" He raised a brow while waiting on him to respond as he kept on walking up the stairs, following Ezra.

Ezra was a little surprised that the other guy decided to stick up for him like that. He was happy for it but that wouldn't be enough for some of the students to grow up. /Eh,/ was his reply as they kept going, /they just act like that because they know I could spill the beans about some things they've done and they would be in serious trouble. I won't but that doesn't stop them from being nervous. I'm not going to waste my breath trying to convince them I won't when I know they won't believe me anyways./

Without thinking he took the bags from him and started up the stairs again, /Huh, that's a useful power. You could probably get all kinds of things with it./ He was half way up the next flight of stairs before a confused look crossed his face and he looked down at the bag in his hand. He smirked, /Nice./ He handed the bag back to him.

Soon enough they were at the top and he sighed, /I wish I knew. I think it's the gym teachers sneaky way of getting us to do a little more exercise./ Choosing a room at the end of the hall he opened the door and let him in to their room. It was a simple place with two beds and two desks with a closet.

Christian smirked then laughed when Ezra didn't know what had happened to him. He grabbed his bag back then smiled.

"The gym teachers can kiss my..." He looked around then shrugged his comment off as they had finally reached their room. He walked in before Ezra but got his other bag back from his as well, sitting them on one of the beds. "This is nice." He said while looking around the room then over at the closet. "So, I guess we are roommates?" He questioned while unzipping his bags, placing his most of his clothing in a dresser drawer then hanging the rest of them up. "Well, we are now." He laughed then punched Ezra's arm slightly. "So, what do you guys do around here? Back in Huston I..." He fixed his lips shut as he sat down on one of the beds, raising a brow towards him. "Don't you feel like something isn't right?"

Christian laid back in his bed and stared up at the ceiling as he waited for his answer.
