(OOC) The Golden Key: A Tale of Brunswick [Revised]

    Recruitment Temporarily Unavailable

    CO GM:

O nce upon a time, in a land far away-- beyond the majestic mountains and the great sea -- there was a beautiful kingdom, and so it was called Brunswick . People and creatures alike traveled to the ends of the world just to see it, a fluorishing kingdom that was without poverty and was ruled by a gracious king who loved his people. It has been thousands of years since the Sorcerer was condemned to an eternity in the Lake Of Fire, and now it has become legend. A chilling story of an evil man who slaughtered mercilessly and ruled with an iron fist. After a raging war between two nations, he was finally defeated by a God In mans flesh, the great King of Brunswick. After his mortal passing, the king was buried with a golden key-- the only way to release the Sorcerer from the next dimension. As the kingdom recovered, they soon moved on with their lives...and the nightmare had become a distant memory, a frightening story parents told their children to make them behave.

But history has a terrible tendency to repeat itself.

Now in the present, Brunswick continues to be the envy of other nations, with the finest military known to man, and treasure beyond dreams. It was a nation rich in resources, a kingdom run on magic. One thing that made Brunswick favorable was it's equality and diversity. Men walk among dwarves, nymphs, elves, mages, witches and even giants. The king believed that every living creature was sacred, and that magic was to be used for good. Zaeria (rival kingdom to the west) grew sick with resentment, forever holding a grudge as their land was rotting away in poverty and sickness. It had become a wasteland, an anarchy, and the people became ruthless. It was considered the forbidden land, where no outsiders dared venture, as it was crawling with disease, black magic, and cannibalism.

One night as the people of Brunswick were settling in, a surprise attack from the west left them in pieces. Zaeria had raided their villages, pillaged from homes and markets, and set fire to the crops and livestock. In the frenzy of panic, the worst unraveled; the golden key was stolen from the sacred tomb. It was the end of peace, and with the return of the wicked Sorcerer, it could be the end of Brunswick.

    Resubmitting Krile's info.

    Name: Krile Shizumori
    Aliases: none
    Age: 23
    Gender: female
Role: One of the princesses' maidservants

Appearance: She has short chestnut brown hair that is tied into a half updo with a blue ribbon. She has cool blue eyes and has never been seen smiling, but she is not rough around the edges like most stoic people. She mostly wears the castle's maid outfit, but during casual times, she will wear tunics, skirts and casual attire that are red and blue.

Personality: Krile is a very quiet, vapid and unsmiling girl on the surface, but she is surprisingly empathetic and keen to notice when something is wrong. She focuses on logic and facts, and isn't too open to things like imagination and fun. When she sees someone else struggling with something in their life, Krile will offer her advice and observations in an empathetic and unforced manner.

History: Krile is the daughter of the knight Kresnik Shizumori and a retired maidservant named Keiko. As Krile is a girl, her parents figured she would be better suited as a maid than a soldier, although Kresnik taught her how to use the sword for self-defense. Keiko trained Krile to be a maid, and her connection managed to secure Krile as a maidservant within the castle. In secret, she possessed a stronger sense of hearing than most people, so she could listen in on secret conversations while not being anywhere near the scene. Krile calls this skill 'resonance', and she doesn't talk about it and the things she overhears to anyone. Even so, Krile kept her concerns quiet and focused on performing her duties.

Krile's superior, Madam Hilda, was concerned with her inability to socialize and summoned her one night. Krile finally admitted about her resonance ability to her boss, and Madam Hilda realized that her skill could be useful to Brunswick's future. After some long discussions, Krile decided to prove her loyalty to her king and the princesses by secretly acting as a spy, using her resonance to overhear any shady discussions going on within the castle that could be harmful to Brunswick's future.

Although nervous of the idea of being a spy, Krile accepted her mission as she had her own doubts about the Military General's marriage to the elder princess. She was already used to hearing difficult truths from total strangers, so if he said anything shocking or drastic, she would not panic. Now getting adjusted to her new position, Krile works hard to blend in with the castle's society while keeping her eyes (and ears) open toward the Military General, while making sure she remained beneath his notice.

Powers/Abilities: Krile doesn't have any powerful magic, but has an unusual ability to hear sounds better than most people, so she uses it to spy on top-secret conversations while acting as a guard and maidservant for the princesses. She calls this ability 'resonance', and she keeps it a closely-guarded secret from everyone except those she is working for. If it was known that Krile could use resonance, she would be unable to spy on the enemies who are slowly infiltrating the castle.

Practical Skills: Possesses a basic education, was trained in swordplay by her father and being a professional maid by her mother, and speaks the native language.

Weakness: Krile is a horrible socialite, preferring not to speak more than necessary. Loud places and noisy people can make her upset very quickly and cause her to find a way to withdraw from that situation. Due to her resonance skill, Krile is also very weary of people because she can overhear things that she doesn't want to. She wishes there was a way to 'turn off' her resonance skill, but is forced to continue hearing secrets and making her suspicious of others. Krile is also a fierce workaholic to the point that she could collapse if she doesn't take care of herself. She has to be told to rest or else she will just keep going.

Name: Val-An (True Name), Vince Animagu (Mortal Name)

    Aliases: None

Age: He is extremely old but has spent a few thousand years in a mortal body however he has only a spent about a year active in it. The rest was spent in a trance in a cave, waiting.

    Gender:Male

Role: I wanted to do a Gandalf/Seer/Monk type character who guides the Heroes as well as a Troubled Avenger.

Race: Maiar, the name given to a Spirit who as taken a mortal form. They are forced to remain in that form until they are killed (suicide while it works taints the spirit so few take that route). He served the Gods and was told to maintain peace.

Appearance: He is a 5'10 and 140 pound Caucasian male with glowing blue eyes and black hair. His skin is adorned with runes which glow blue when activated.

Personality: He is a very calm, mysterious, intelligent and self confident. Despite his youthful body he is at heart an old soul and often complains about how things have changed or how everything was simpler. He loves to perfect himself having made it his goal to be the best he can be and to complete his mission to his fullest ability. He is an amazing strategist due to his age, decisiveness and imagination. However he can be arrogant, judgemental and insensitive to others with a blind focus on the mission.

    History:

He was born in the First Ages alongside his masters and served them for a millennia, helping them to shape and protect the world from all that wishes to stop the peace. When Zaine took human form he too descended alongside his master assisting him in sealing/defeating the Sorcerer and while the King ruled he stayed with him as his first Advisor. When the King finally died he left the Kingdom and entered a deep trance within an old cave. While his body was left to collect dust, his mind explored the astral realms yearning to be amongst his brothers again. He waited for a time in which the world was once again in danger and required him to once again fulfill his calling.

    Powers/Abilities:
Firstly due to a connection to the world he possess a tremor-sense of about 25 feet or 8 metres away. This allows him to sense any creature moving within water or on the ground, movement refers to any form of physical action barring ones necessary to survival (even speaking is enough to trigger it) so only if the creature is still will he not be able to sense them.

Secondly he knows and is trained in the use of The Word. The Word is the first word spoken by anyone and was said by the first god in a language which for other than this word is lost. As such it is intrinsic to creation itself, each syllable of The Word is a prayer to all Gods in it's own right but The Word itself however to work their must be spoken at the right cadence and pitch (if someone says a part or all The Word and gets it wrong it can result in injury or death due to the divine energy they have uncontrollable unleashed) Knowledgeable people would likely know of The Word but few believe in it's power/existence and even fewer actually think anyone knows it.

The First Syllable - Heavenly Light and song radiates from his body calming/pacifying enemies and cloaking allies in light protecting them.

The Second Syllable - Stone itself obeys his call and makes it easier for allies to move and hinders the movements of foes as well as weakening their minds and bodies.

The Third Syllable - Darkness grows from the shadows and clouds form above and cry with fury as thunder and lightning strikes down foes and shadows make allies undetectable to the enemies.

The Word - Apart from the First God, no one has ever said the Word in it's entirety. If he ever did say The Word, even he had no clue what may happen. There are many theories about what may happen but ultimately only the First God knew, the use of the Entire Word is known to damage it's user for such energy could only be safety channelled by the First God.

Finally he is skilled in the Divine Martial Arts allowing him to channel Divine Power into his body to increase his martial and physical abilities.

Practical Skills: He is educated extremely well...to the standards of thousands of years ago. He knows all the languages of that time and any languages still around from that time in an extremely old dialect. He is also able to understand Arcana and he is well aware of the ettiquite of the Gods and can understand/write their language.

Weakness: His hatred and anger for the Sorcerer is what leads to his blind focus on the mission. It means on occasion he can be overwhelmed by anger and act brashly, it also means he may be willing to circumvent his normal morality in order to get closer to the Sorcerer. This means he could be corrupted.

    Name: Ajal Lanuvich
    Aliases: No need
    Age: 42
    Gender: Male
    Role: Knight
    Race: Human

Appearance: Ajal is 6’4”, weighs about 350 pounds, and every ounce of it is muscle. He has short cropped brown hair with deep blue eyes, and keeps his face clean shaven.

Ajal’s normal everyday attire is very simple, generally tunics and breeches of plain color such as brown or grey. When he is equipped for battle, he wears three layers of armor: leather armor for padding, chain mail, and heavy plate armor. Hammers are his preferred tool, be it for creation or death.

Personality: Ajal is very level-headed, a result of his training as a blacksmith and his kindly nature to those who are weaker than most. He is very careful of movement because he is aware of his great size and strength, and as long as someone shows him no physical hostility, he wishes them no harm. However, if he sees someone commit violence against those weaker than themselves, he has no problem with smashing their face in with the closest hammer, and only restrains himself because of the laws of Brunswick.

History: Ajal is a commoner who has risen to the great honor of knighthood. He was born the son of a blacksmith, and took up his father’s trade at the age of 16. His father provided arms and armor for many knights, the skills for which he passed down to Ajal. By the age of 20, Ajal’s work was almost as highly desired as that of his father.

When Ajal was 27, the forge where he and his father worked was attacked by some rival blacksmiths in town who were known to be rather undesirable, due to surly attitudes and shoddy work for outrageously high prices. When they attacked, Ajal was putting the finishing touches on a recent commision for one of the knights: a heavy battle hammer. Rather than not fight, Ajal simply wielded the hammer and drove off his attackers. He was very fortunate, for his client came to pick up his weapon right in the middle of the brawl. Witnessing Ajal’s prowess with the massive hammer, the knight decided to pull some strings to get Ajal admitted into the knighthood, even if he was a bit old.

In the scuffle, the Lanuvich forge was completely destroyed, despite Ajal's best efforts. However, the knight, knowing of Ajal's skill, decided to pay for a completely new forge moved to a new location, around much better clientele: right near the knights' barracks. To this day, Ajal maintains both the duties of the knighthood as well as his forge, making most of his own arms and armor, as well as doing commissions or repairs for his fellow knights.

Powers/Abilities: Ajal possesses no magical abilities, but he is very proficient with the hammer, both those used in battle and those used in the forge. He is also very accustomed to extremely heavy armor.
Practical Skills: Blacksmithing, subcategories of, such as weapon smithing, armorsmithing, etc.
Weakness: Ajal is very slow moving. As a result, if someone is fast enough, they could get behind him with relatively little difficulty.

    Name: Morcan Kallas

    Aliases: The Watcher

    Age: 30

    Gender: Male

    Role:
    Sorcerer’s Council

Appearance: - (sorry there's no picture, but do you know how difficult it is to find a photo of a guy that looks like this?!)
The Watcher isn’t the largest man, standing at a modest 5’8” and weighing in at 130 pounds. The first thing people notice is the elaborate black swirls tattooed around his eye sockets, stretching down around his neck and up over his shaven head. The second thing they notice is the lack any eyes within those eye sockets. He is rarely seen with any hair on his head or face at all, preferring to keep his weathered skin smooth.
As he cannot see, his garb is chosen for him by the Sorcerer and other members of the council, usually in a tunic and breeches of soft fabric, grey or black, with a deep purple surcoat, and usually a black cloak around his shoulders.

    Personality:
The Watcher is not a talkative man. Most people seem reluctant to talk with an eyeless man, plus he can gain all he needs from peoples’ moods and feelings. Years of corruption from the arcane arts have left his soul withered, and as such he doesn't feel many emotions, though he is very calculated, and difficult to out-think, mostly because he knows roughly what you are about to think. As he has lost his sight, he attempts to make the most of his other senses; listening to beautiful music, touching the softest fabrics and roughest stones. As he hears and feels others’ feelings and emotions so often it is difficult for him to think rationally for himself.

    History:
Morcan Kallas was born in Zaeria to a whore and a stonemason. His mother tried to look after him but she couldn't afford to feed him, and her profession made it so she was always working. When he was still a babe in arms, she left him with the local temple, which, in this particular area of Zaeria, practices the Arcane and Psionic arts. When he was six, the elder of this temple saw his potential to be a powerful Psion, a being that can interact with the world with only its mind (telekinesis, moving objects, and mild telepathy) and encouraged him to harness his gift. At seven, when he once again failed to concentrate hard enough to use his abilities properly, his elder said it was because he was too distracted with his other senses, and burnt out his eyes with a poker. While this experience scarred him both mentally and physically, it did teach him how to use his powers more efficiently, and he eventually became a tremendous Psion, able to move large objects at will, to read other peoples’ feelings and emotions. He continued to learn and teach at the temple for years, trying to pass on his abilities, becoming ever quieter as he began to communicate telepathically with his other neophytes and instructors, rendering his voice useless. He lived a peaceful life like this for many years.

Later, when the Sorcerer was re-awakened in Zaeria, he was approached by men clad all in black, atop mighty destriers. The Sorceress knew of his power and demanded that he join him. Morcan, corrupted by the Arcane, and convinced by the Sorcerer’s silver words, left his brothers without a word, and through his power and his wise counsel, was quickly appointed onto the Sorcerer’s Council. Due to the difficulty he has to construct his own thoughts, he does essentially only what to Sorcerer tells him to do, never elaborating on it much. Many people called him a golem, and said that nothing was going on in his mind, when in fact it is quite the opposite.

    Powers/Abilities:
The Watcher is a powerful psion. He can see without eyes, using his telepathy to guide him. He can also uses telekinesis to move heavy objects at will, and also hear and manipulate a person’s thoughts, though a person of strong mental fortitude will be difficult/impossible to manipulate. A task of too great a magnitude will severely mentally tax him, and he will be unable to use his powers for a time.

    Practical Skills:
From his time in the temple, Morcan is extremely learned. Well read, well spoken, he has knowledge of much history and geography, alchemy and many other subjects. Though he has never trained for it, for some reason he can run very fast for long distances. It is also rumoured that he is an excellent juggler.

    Weakness:
His mind his often so clouded with thoughts and impulses that some can pass him by. He is also not a physically imposing character; in a fistfight he would be next to useless.

    My characters

    Gabrielle, the Youngest Princess

    Name: Princess Gabrielle
    Aliases:
    Age: fifteen
    Gender: female
    Role: the young princess
    Race: Pure Blood Mortal

    Appearance:

Gabby looks like a product of a King and a Queen: soft brown hair with gentle curls; luminescent gray eyes; dainty. Her body is not that of a woman. She has little curves and even less breast. Unlike her sister, she has no muscle definition. She is as pliable as any princess should be. Her skin is light, while her smile is dark. One might comment the reasons for her smiling are…creations of her own mind. Her hands flutter and touch—tutors are trying to break her of such twitching habits.

Because she is young and still a virgin, the maids dress her appropriately: enough to entice while keeping Gabby respectable. Without much of a chest (a bit of a concern at her age, but her bleedings are healthy), another route was considered. Many layers of light material that were gifts from loyal elves are draped and skillfully arranged on her skinny body (something of five foot four and weighing in a little over 100). Whenever she can get away with it (all the time) she insists on having beads or braids tied at haphazard in her hair.

Personality: For this, the only way to properly portray the young princess is to be blunt: she is touched. Oh she looks like she is fifteen, but acts somewhere between six and her actual age at intermittent times. She giggles constantly over something or another and she always seems happy. Even with her father dying in bed, she is chipper. When caught talking to the air she claims she is speaking to her “friends.” She often says inappropriate things. As expected, these types of habits are disruptive as disturbing for those who deal with her. However, she strong in her faith and benevolent, thus quelling some irrational fears. She is always moving about and excited about something or another, so these ephemeral “lapses” come and go as quickly as her interests.

For Gabby, though, she is not touched; she is gifted. Because she loves being a princess she learned to control herself more and more. Some days are worse than others, especially when her body hurts so much she cannot move. She thinks herself clever and funny. As she aged, she has come to accept three crucial things: 1) She loves being a princess and will do anything to be considered good and loved. 2) Her blood sister is a horrible princess. 3) What she sees are all real.

    History:
Any midwife would agree the youngest princess’s birth is a harbinger. A pure mortal whose story began with Queen’s death and when brought into this world did not cry. If these occurrences were separate, not one person would think about them. Together, they resulted in muttered prayers and intense questions. What would this child bring?

She has been raised separate from her sister. Their meetings consist of dinners, proper engagements and, now, at their father’s bedside as he wanes. For her, though, Gabby has been affected little by her sister. Evangeline is, after all, not a good role model as to how a princess should act.

Her first meeting with Czar, though, profoundly changed Gabby. He is her confident. He guides her when no one else does. As her father juggled the courts, the people, and the war, Czar offered what all children need: love. Before their meeting when she was six, her behavior threatened to mirror that of her elder sister. He soothed her and showed her the beauty of being a princess. The love she can garner; the happiness there in. You will undoubtedly meet him later for he is the first spirit Gabby came in contact with and has a knack of making the princess giggle too much.

Her favorite memories stem from her true talent of storytelling. It started at bed time. When the maids combed out her braids and tucked her in, she would chatter until her lips slowed and her breath deepened. Then, her father. Then, other children. Soon, to prevent her from going off on her own an audience was gathered for her. Children, adults, emissaries, prisoners. These telling began when she was eleven. People are immersed into her stories—they seem so real. For they are. Pasts of many jumbled into one grand adventure. But neither the listeners nor Gabby have grasped that.

She takes her studies seriously and has grown in proper skills. Nothing spectacular or amazing, but she is at a level expected of any princess or wife-to-be despite her flighty behavior. She welcomes suitors and looks forward to her marriage (she wants lots of children). With the decline of her father, she doesn’t see the rotting of his body, but the freeing of his spirit. She says this often to him. There is no comfort in such words, so she is kept busy to avoid such harrowing comments arising. Gabby is jealous her sister is marrying. Currently, her favorite stories are of love and life and children. However, she is currently recovering from a particularly nasty spell of pain that left her in bed for three days.

Powers/Abilities: As described, how can you expect a girl like Gabby to understand that what she is seeing? Lingering spirits. Snippets into places where people don’t want her. The knowing the past is just as powerful as knowing the future.

Practical Skills: As any proper princess, she is being tutored in everything from diplomatic enterprises to stitching. All activities she enjoys because she wants to be a princess. However, her favorite thing (and that which she is best at) is story telling.

Weakness: Gabby gets confused and angry and will go into fits of crying. Really, it’s not anyone fault. People don’t know what she knows and she doesn’t understand how they can’t. Tutors are trying to hone powers she does not have and leaves those she does have to run amuck. Her physical ailments leave her languid in bed and bruised days after.

    NEXT>>>>>NEXT>>>>>NEXT>>>>>
    Ian, the Sorcerer's Arms Dealer

    Name: Stephen Hardinson
    Aliases: Ian
    Age: 53
    Gender: male
    Role: Sorcerer's Arms Dealer
    Race: Human

    Appearance:

Keeping physical allows Ian to have a strong body. With years at the anvil and in front of the fires he is scarred in many places. Although he wears an eye patch he is not actually missing that eye. After an accident with some volatile substances, that eye has partial vision thus making it less disorienting by wearing the eye patch. His hair is shorn and his beard is constantly singed from working at the forge so it shaves its self in a way. Ian doesn’t like clothing. Really, it just catches fire. When crafting items he wears a thick leather belt about his stomach (though at this point in his life his skin is immune to the intense heat). And those markings may look like just tattoos, but they are actually spells (no longer functional, but remain they still do).

Personality: Ian complains about his age and jokes around a lot. His laughter is surprising in Zaeria. His not cheerfulp or happy just making the best from messed up situations. As arms dealer he is imaginative, but extremely organized. Things have their place in his workshop, as do the people who work for him. His has a certain routine (as much as one can in these times at least) to his life that he likes to keep about him. Ian cannot lie. He just can’t. So he just tells the truth and how it goes. For some reason, people think the truth is a lie. Either way, he still gets the job done. He relishes finishing a project.

History: His family consisted of Dad, Mom, and Doug (their donkey). His parents failed at having any other children, thus all the chores and responsibilities were left to Ian. He didn’t have a choice in becoming a blacksmith. You learn a trade and you survive. That was what he learned, really. So he took this inevitable occurrence in his life and fit it to himself. He didn’t just want to pound out shovels and horse shoes. He experimented with creating arrow heads for the hunters. Then axes and other functional tools. Things progressed and as his parents aged (poorly) he began to find ways to make their lives (and his easier). He was introduced to arms dealing when a blacksmith in the neighboring city failed to produce satisfactory swords for the lord. Ian got the commission, and every one after that. Thus he climbed the latter.

Somewhere fit between his career, Ian also was married to a witch from Wynora. The spells burned into his flesh were a joke for their wedding night. Increase stamina, fertility, and she dulled the smell of smoke and melting metal when they were in bed. Apparently, they worked, and for a few years after. They had children with three surviving and carrying on his name (grandchildren, too). He loves his family and what they’ve brought into this world for him. Blacksmithing and inventing feeds apart of his while his kin gives him purpose.

Thus, leading us to a pivotal point in his life. He made the choice to work under the Sorcerer to create different arms. It was either that or let him and his family get lost in the haze and confusion of hunger, sickness, and death. That was not possible. Admittedly, Ian doesn’t think that the Sorcerer is evil, just ambition. However, the blacksmith can’t say much about that. He understands ambition.

    Powers/Abilities: none.

    Practical Skills:
Designing weapons and mechanics useful for armies, conquerings, and, sometimes, defending a city. He is able to employ multiple blacksmiths, alchemists, and spell casters to work on joint ventures for more fruitful outcomes. He is helpful in military planning. Not with the formation of men necessarily, but which weapons will get the job done with least causalities on their side and maximum damage on the other side.

    Weakness:
He will do anything for his family and his lives. He can’t lie worth shit. Be surprised to know he is also not learned. His range of vision is limited.
