    Mass Effect Opinions

I've been itching to do this since september, but what do you guys think were the hardest missions outside of the Mako missions in the first one? Like Priority: Rannoch, or Use the Omega 4 Relay and what follows, or the Race Against Time? And what in your opinion was what made it hard? And any other opinions on the mass effect trilogy that don't involve ranting about how horribly bad the Mass Effect 3 ending was?

In my opinion the hardest missions were Race Against Time: Final Battle because for me, Saren spammed the same attack over and over again. Collector Base: The Long Walk because of that god damn Human-Reaper, and then Priority: Rannoch because it gets increasingly harder to line up the targeting laser with the firing pit.

    Signature was made by Harbinger.

The Collector Ship, hands down, is the hardest friggin' mission in the entire series. At least the first encounter with the ambush on the floating platforms. GAH! After that, everything seemed easy by comparison.

Basically the reason this part is so brutal is your choice of cover is limited and only waist-high, so the two scions which are way off to the sides can rain down fire that forces you to move out of cover or get hit, and all the while the hordes of collector soldiers are more than happy to shoot at you the moment you poke your head up. Given the number of them, there isn't more than a second or two when Harbinger isn't controlling one of them, and he has a lot of instant (or close to it) kill attacks, plus that orb that ignores cover. Also, the platform you're stuck on is stupidly small and your AI squad mates have a hard time reacting to the threats. All in all, it took me probably close to 30 tries on Insanity to get past this part. After that I think the most I died at any given part was 5, in any of the games.

Then again, the next hardest part was in Mass Effect 3 when you're fighting in that London suburb that's being assaulted by endless hordes of reaper troops while the destroyer is getting closer and sweeping the area with shoop-dah-whoop laser fire. It forces you into close quarters with multiple banshees and brutes and on Insanity, even the cannibals burn through your shield/barriers pretty fast if you're out of cover, as well as marauders. I got through this part with more luck and fast reflexes instead of tactics or skill, which always annoys me.

The targeting laser bit on Rannoch against the destroyer is actually really easy when you get the pattern down. Basically as soon as you dodge each of the beams, just stand there and hold the laser on the eye steady, it doesn't move too much that it's a problem and the targeting field is actually really generous so it doesn't have to be pinpoint to narrow. Just stop when you see the reaper's 'eye' glowing and dodge out of the way for as many times as it takes and then just continue holding steady. Even with the last time where it's standing right over you and time is slowing down, don't try anything fancy or prepare to dodge, just hold the laser right on target and don't move.

The mission where you need to fight 2-3 YMIR mechs in some side mission to save some crates.(Mass Effec 2)

Oh, and it's on the hardest difficulty. (NO DLC weapons)

Seriously, those god damn mechs can take a world of damage.
And they immediately move to your position, keeping you suppressed with their railguns as they move closer.
You start in an enclosed valley, with nowhere to run as they come through the only entrance.

All the other missions on the hardest difficulty are easy in comparison to that one o.O

The only part of the entire Mass Effect trilogy that frustrated me...was the very end, on Earth. Hopping in and out of buildings, taking cover where you could, etc. For some reason this absolutely vexed me--especially the Turians-turned-Husk-likethings. Stupid Banshee things. =(

Nothing in ME1 was too difficult for me, it's a generally easy game if you know what you're doing, and that's on higher difficulties. Lower ones you can blow through with literally anything.

ME2, really just the Collectors. The main example being the ship when you find out the Illusive Man lured you into a trap and then you're stuck on a single platform waiting for enemy platforms to attach so you can fight through and escape.

ME3, was mostly the Repears. Cerberus became trivial once you get good at the guardians mail slots. But the reapers banshee and brutes... they never get easy, ever.

I hate to "revive" or "bump" a thread, but I felt in a Mass Effect sort of discussion mood and this is the only really thing search gave me in terms of general discussion.

This has to be the most frustrating thing for me, even topping the Collector encounters in Mass Effect 2 and I was never one for more difficult settings as I've never really played Insanity in any of the games. However, through multiplayer I feel like I'm getting better to amp it up. Maybe it was the push I needed but I'm not sure. On the point of multiplayer; collector/reaper enemies seem to tear up my well skilled and coordinated squad and it drives me bananas, does anyone have any class combination advice or suggestions on that point? Wondering what I'm/were really doing wrong online here.

If it involves thorian creepers, then it's impossible.

Honestly I quit the ME series when I first met Matriarch Benezia.

I didn't even rage after I lost 5 times in a row. It wasn't even hurtful, it was just so bad that I couldn't take the game seriously at that point. I just put the controller down, took the game back, got scammed 14 dollars and went back home to play Battlefield 3. The combat mechanics in the first game was the icing on the cake; it was like it was trying to be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and one of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon games.

The RPG element of the game I couldn't stand either.

    Ha ha nope.

You can't really approach the first game like a typical shooter, you need to use your powers smartly. The asari commando fight is tough because it's the first time you're facing strong biotics and trained soldiers, so it's completely different from everything else you'd done up until that point. The mechanics, while clunky, are workable. It's a seriously fantastic game that you can't treat like a modern military shooter. The RPG elements were toned down quite a bit for the sequels and the play mechanics refined.

You should have given it a better chance, or played at an easier difficulty. Trust me, the game and series is very rewarding, and coming from a guy who's been playing games since the NES days, it's one of my favorite series of all times.

Honestly, Matriarch Benezia isn't even one of the toughest encounters. While I agree the first game is tedious and such elements effect replayability I don't think it's a quality choice to dismiss a game with such rich lore and characters.
