MLP - Tabletop Adventures (DnD style) IC

    GM - MrsBrisbee

Oatsdale is a very small newly established town in the Southern region of Equestria. The town was originally founded by a working stallion who, in need of some food, decided to plant a seed. Over time that seed grew, creating more seeds, and thus a farm was created. Over the past year that one farm grew into one settler, and then another. It was soon discovered that this dusty land was the perfect place for mining. Amazing and rare gems could be found and some ponies took it upon themselves to find those gems. It was a young miner pony who discovered the largest gem he had ever seen. He called his partner to help him dig it out, but they only managed to get half way down before something bizarre happened. The young miners have never been seen since, although most assumed that they had moved on to another town. After the fourth disappearance, ponies began to worry. Now that Princess Celestia is missing, it’s up to our hero’s to figure out the mystery.

Most of Oatsdale is covered in dust and dirt. Plenty of mining caves have been dug, each filled with jewels, but since the disappearance of the Princess, the mines have been shut down and have a guard placed outside at all times. There are a couple of small farms in the area, these ponies tend to stick to themselves, disliking the miners. There are a few sources of water. One small pony-made lake just outside of the oldest farm. A large wash/creek bed outlines the city. This usually runs half full of water at all times, but this is where all the water from Canterlot, Ponyville and Cloudsdale runs. During the ‘rainy season’ this is a dangerous spot due to flooding and violent rushes of water. This also tends to happen right after Winter’s ice as melted. It doesn’t rain often in this location, so this source of water is very important.

Starshine couldn't help but notice how lovely the day was, despite the depression surrounding the current situations. She knew that their beloved princess had to be found, but how could she not notice the brilliant sun sparkled off of the crystal blue water in the wash. It was a little more full than usual, winter having just ended a few days prior. Birds were singing and grass was beginning to grow closer to the waters edge. The farms were just beginning to bloom again as well, standing out against the dusty surroudings. It was around this time of day that she could normally be found in her small shop 'Starshine Gems' where she polished the rare and beautiful gems that the miners found. Sometimes she could find something special to do with them, and others they needed nothing more than a little polishing. She loved her work, being able to lend her hooves to improve the beauty of her surroundings, it was one of her favorite things to do. She could see the dark outline of the Stallion standing watch over the entrance to a good majority of the mining caves. It was only a few short weeks ago that the mines were full of miners looking for gems, the stallion that stood guard to keep ponies out had been in charge of preventing avalanches from burrying everypony.

She heaved a sigh as she turned back towards the tiny town, there were only a few ponies left after fear scared a good majority away, but perhaps she could find a place to get some lunch. Her stomach grumbled slightly reminding her of her hunger causing her to speed it up a bit. There wasn't much luck, there had been two places to find food here besides the surrounding farms and it seemed that the lack of business had been enough to drive them away as well. "Oh, we were doing so well too" she said softly to herself, talking about how their tiny new town had been on it's way to thriving, it was sad to see it hurting like this.
(not my best, but we're just starting so I'll warm up into better posts)

Up above Oatsdale in the blue sky, Gamble was enjoying a relaxing flight. His hat was on tight as to not lose it, his eyes mellow and half-open. His steel wings shining brightly in the midday sun. It was time for Gamble to make his rounds to the Oatsdale Tavern, so he turned around and slowly began flying in it's direction. He liked dramatic timing, it always helped throw off his fellow players at the card table, and sadly there wasn't many players left. With the disappearances, more and more of the ponies that respected the trade were heading towards places such as Las Pegasus and Canterlot, looking for bigger game. Gamble wasn't one that wanted to ever leave the town, it was quiet, it was nice. But it did lack many good looking pegasi, and that was disappointing for the colt. He'd get over it, he figured. He'd have to try and give another breed a run someday. They'd never had an experience before meeting Gamble Gambit!

"Bap-Bap-Bah! Ring-A-Ding sonny! This is going to be a good day, I can feel it in my bones!" He cheered as he began his decent down to the ground. He was quite loud, some of the locals found the city pony to be troublesome, others found him to be a nice and exciting change of pace. As he landed in front of the tavern, he grinned with excitement. This was practically where he lived, and where all his money came from. He trotted up the tree old creaky wooden steps, and pushed the door open to get inside.

The place was rather busy, and it excited Gamble everytime. There was an earth pony playing piano in the corner, there were some sweet fillies just looking gorgeous. Then there was the table that laid in the left corner of the room, the one Gamble was approaching.

Gamble sat at the table, reaching a hoof into his vest pocket and pulling out a small bag, tossing the small bag up and down in his left forehoof, it contained 70 bits."Filly luck is always' on my side." He said with a smug look on his face, as he stopped tossing the bag up and down. Starring at the two ponies at the table with him. Today was slow, none of the big-time players were around, and it disappointed Gamble greatly. He figured it'd have to wait until another day to earn some GOOD income, so he simply threw the bag onto the table and was met with a rough laugh from one of the ponies.

"Yer' mine this time, Gambit." He said, it was all in good fun, and unlike Las Pegasus, these ponies didn't try to kill you... Most of the time.

"Just deal me, friend." Gamble said with a confident look on his face. As quick as his words escaped his mouth, the cards were on the table. He stared, realizing he had five cards. "You serious? Five card? I ain't a foal, pal. Why ain't we playing a real game?" He asked, and was met with a coughing fit from the same pony as before.

"Simple, jus' us smalltime folk with you, Gambit. Let's take it slow today... Plus yer' bag is a bit light."

"Touche my friend." Gamble laughed, looking at his cards. Not a single pair. How disappointing it was... The others looked confident, but Gamble had a plan. One took two cards and the other stayed, this would call for some fast talk and getting them to fold. Gamble wasn't going to draw new cards, he wouldn't need them to win this game. He lowered his hat to cover his eyes, before making his attempt to bluff.

(Would be a time to set a number I'll need, Bris. First roll coming up here which'll be based on Heart(Charisma), depending if I succeed or fail with be decided in my next post after I roll, and the complete outcome of Gamble's bluff.)

First Check of the game goes to Gamble. You need a 10 or higher to pass. First thing you need to decide, are you going to use your charisma, keep in mind that you can only use your talent once during a task. So your roll will be 1d20 +1 for heart. Add +2 if you decide to use your talent.

you actually didn't add your bonus point to any of your attributes, so feel free to choose the attribute you'd like to add to. If you do add it to your heart, you get a +2 to your 8 and your bluff is successful, if not your total is a 9 and your bluff does not work.

(My CS was updated almost 9 hours ago and I posted in the OOC that I was adding it to Heart, just getting that straitened out... So it passed. Okay.)

Gamble smirked. "Gentlecolts, I am all in." He announced, and the two stared at him for a moment, blinking.

"How much ya' got in that bag?" One questioned.

"70 bits." Gamble answered, and the two looked at each other before looking back to him. He could tell it had worked, they were nervous. Unsure. He had smooth talked them, he figured. "Well?"

The first pony tossed his cards to the center of the table. "I fold, I ain't losin' all my bits today."

Gamble stared at the second pony, who hesitated before throwing his cards down as well. Gamble raised his hat and smiled brightly, opening his bag. "Throw 'em in, pal." He asked, and without question, both threw their 70 bits in, giving him a grand total of 210 bits. Gamble pulled back his bag and quickly closed it, shoving the now hefty sum into his pocket. "Good game, good game... I didn't have nothin', though."

And with those words, Gamble stood up and trotted away. Peering behind him as the ponies scurried to where he was sitting and stared at his cards. He let out a small chuckle, pushing the door to the tavern open and sitting on the old wooden stairs, starring up at the sky. That was all he was going to earn today, he figured.

Star tried to keep her head up, but it was hard to keep a smile on her face while her stomach was rumbling so harshly, she continued down the street glancing towards one place or another. Several of them had signs up in the windows indicating that the shop was close and that everypony had moved on. She paused as something loud caught her attention, turning towards a building she had never been inside. She recognized the saloon, several of the miners who came to her for gem polishing talked about the place, but she had never been there before. She saw no reason why she shouldn't investigate, she couldn't really be picky and with it being so popular, it couldn't be that bad. She walked up the wooden steps when the doors flew open and a young Pegasus colt came out, shouting back over his shoulder about not having anything. She jumped back to keep from bumping into him, speaking softly, her eyes touching the ground automatically "oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to get in your way" her eyes glanced up touching his, her smile was friendly and welcoming.

Her eyes landed on his wings and she paused, her eyes widened slightly, she could feel a blush coming to her cheeks as she realized that she was staring, she couldn't help her curiosity, she had never seen anything like it "you must not be a miner, I don't think we've met"

Gamble blinked, he hadn't even noticed the filly he nearly ran into. He was too busy thinking about how he'd end up having to spend his profits. After taking notice of her, though... He couldn't help but make observations in his mind.

Mhm. Quite the case we've got here. Decent height, pretty face... Must watch her weight, that's for sure... That flank... Eh. I'll give it a 7 outta 10, I've seen better. Like the mane, goes well with her eyes. Tail is about the right size, too. Probably pretty flexible body... Mmm, she's nice. But a Unicorn... Don't trust all that magic, one wrong move and who knows where I'd end up. He nodded to himself, smiling at her.

"Don't think we have." Gamble said happily, noticing where her eyes were looking. Sadly not on his features, but on his wings... D'aw well. "Don't feel bad about starring, you're looking at a brilliant breakthrough of technology. I've had these babies for almost six months now, since my... Aahh..." He looked away. "Accident." He explained, raising a hoof as a polite gesture. She was cute, he'd give her that. Not a pegasus, though... That was kind of a let-down. But there didn't seem to be many pegasi in this town, and he was getting a tad tired of waiting for the one traveler to come by.

"My name is Gamble, Gamble Gambit. It's a pleasure to meet you." After his words finished, he could feel a minor breeze push by, causing his hair to shift to the opposite side of his face, and bring his attention to the day that was turning out better than he expected.

Star didn't notice his examining, instead she spotted the mark on his flank, quite interesting, Gambler, it made sense. "You must be quite good at er... cards" she guessed based off of the cutie mark. She had never played cards before, but that didn't mean that she couldn't appreciate the fact that he was good at it. She was often capable of finding a pony's best traits, she liked seeing the best in all of them. It was this element that made her who she was, after all. "They are wonderful, I'm impressed that somepony was able to come up with something so... dynamic. I've always wondered what it was like to fly" she chuckled. It was at that moment a light breeze came through, throwing her main and tail up into the wind for a moment. "My name is Starshine, the pleasure is mine, I just love meeting new friends" she replied with a smile. This was a true statement, this had always been something she enjoyed in life, friends were something that she simply couldn't live without.

Her ear flickered at the sound of a pony calling out for buyers from his apple cart, glancing over her shoulder her stomach gave a almighty grumble of a reminder "oh yeah. I've been looking for something to eat, would you like to join me for an apple?" she glanced back to Gambler.
