Background
Thom’s life hasn’t been exactly easy. Sure, he’s never been emotionally or physically abused, nor was he neglected by his mother when he was growing up. But he was raised in a single-parent home in Dublin, Ireland, by a Squib mother who was unable to properly work in either the muggle or the wizarding world. For all of his life, they struggled financially, moving from place to place until they eventually settled down just outside of Amsterdam, where his mother was able to find work in the red light district of the city, working at a Wizard-only tavern as a hostess and bartender. Thom spent a lot of his earlier years, until he left for Hogwarts, in the upper room of that tavern, playing with the ghosts that lingered there.
His acceptance to Hogwarts had been a huge source of tension between him and his mother after his letter arrived. It turned out that his father was actually a pureblood as well, wherever he might have been, and that the magic gene was able to resurface in him. It made his mother jealous, and she ordered him not to go. At the tender age of eleven, Thom stood up to her and demanded that he be allowed to go, and then - without her permission - stole a handful of Floo Powder and went to Diagon Alley. He was able to find help from a family friend, who sorted things out with his mother and got him all his necessities before sending him off on the train to Hogwarts

Extras
Thom is an incredibly eccentric guy. Whether it’s his clothes to the music he listens to or the things he says, he marches to the beat of his own drum and doesn’t give a single damn about what anyone thinks about him. He also prides himself on being straightforward and honest, almost brutally so, and it often causes him to come off as very mean. Part of that reason is because Thom is very meticulous with the things he does, and if people go against those rituals, he gets incredibly overcritical.
