You guys are probably sick of my bitching, so this'll be it.

My parents, I don't even know where to begin. I'm "selfish" and a "hindrance" because I'm going to school and planning to take a class abroad, which (gasp) costs money and shit, apparently. They're also furious because I don't want to work at a summer church camp. I think I've described my reasoning for this before, since it interferes with a very important paper I have to write after coming back from the class abroad. They're absolutely certain that I won't be able to get any other job than that. My mother so kindly pointed out today "well at least McDonald's hires all the time." Thanks for that support, mother. Your motherly sensitivities astound me.

Not only that now, but it's suddenly my fault that I'll have traveling costs to get home for my sister's wedding this summer. I know, I'm confused, too.

What scares me the most is how much they can get inside my head, and make me believe that all of this really is my fault, and that I'm causing the family irrevocable damage just by being a part of it. It scares me that they can make me think seriously about canceling a trip abroad that I've been dreaming about since I was 9, and that they can make me believe that I'm a pile of shit, and not worth a thing unless I adhere to their agenda.

That's all. I don't really know where I'm going anymore, and all of this probably seems like "middle class american white girl" problems to you, so. Y'know.

You're an adult, and your own person. You have your own goals and agenda. If they're not supporting your decisions in life ( considering that they're good ones ) or if anyone else can't stand behind you and your decisions, then their thoughts and opinions don't make a fuck. This is your story. Make it a good one.

Past two summer holidays I've -had- to work weekdays in light haulage.

    First world problems indeed.

I have no opposition to working, in fact I have several opportunities lined up. It's not like I'm not going to work. I just don't want to work at home, or playing day care with a bunch of brainwashed children.

All I'm saying is any work you don't really want to do is ten times worse.

Mike had some beautiful advice though.

Without your constant bitching, we wouldn't have anything to look forward to, now would we?

I grew up mainly without a mother, cause she was a bitch, and my dad was mostly laid back. A good dad, don't get me wrong, but he was laid back and was the "Do your best" kind of dad, so I can't relate to you that well. But what your parents are doing is just garbage. Basically what Genghis said, make your own path and such. Your parents want you to be like them it seems. I'd say just ignore them and do your own thing, if they kick you out, you can use the no doubt millions of piles of blackmail you have on them to get them arrested.

Compare the occupation you really want to do with the ones your parents are doing. They're probably just jelly that they weren't smart enough to fulfil their ambitions.

The key to not letting people get inside your head is to think about it from their perspective. You seem to be thinking of your parents as authority figures rather than other human beings with their own opinions. In the end it is your life and for whatever reason through misguided concern they are trying to make you seek out employment they deem good, but in the end it is only another option whether they agree or not.

I suppose me being me and guilt proof it comes natural, but usually I go with the choice that has the best reasoning behind it for the results I want to achieve.

You honestly think I haven't considered this from all angles? I've been dealing with these people for longer than you've been alive. I know enough about them by now to know that they don't like travel, don't like change, don't like anything that doesn't have to do with religion or children.

As for you being "guilt-proof," pass that the fuck around.
