Ok heres the idea. A post-apocalyptic Earth , where only a single city remains , governed by an alien overlord in space. Humans manifest powers and are trying to topple the system. I really just want to do something action-objective oriented in a grim sci-fi setting. Not too much thought here. What follows below was written in 15 minutes but I may make it more artsy if enough people reply.
So there are two factions, with subsets. On the Emperator side though you should probably stick with being members of the Exterminators , but I don't really care that much.
The Resistance- A loose network of opposition against the Emperator's tyranny.
Objectives: Since only a single Emperator commands the whole system , and he is in a station above earth, the Resistance's main goal is eliminate the ruling system of traitorous humans and gain access to a teleporter than grants entrance to the Emperator's satellite bastion. Because the Emperator considers the humans little more than beasts of burden he will not risk destroying an important center of military manufacturing and this is the reason he doesn't just blow up the city. Keep in mind the Emperators are each millions of years old and have a weak concept of danger and dying as their minds can be uploaded and transferred from mechanical body to body. Arrogance will be his downfall.
--New Dawn Army: Mostly normal humans, armed with stolen-homemade gear and weapons. Use bombings, assassinations, and guerrilla raids to secure objectives.
--Free Agents: Operate independently , striking where they see fit to cause the most damage.
Members of the rebellion can be human , have cybernetic implants/body parts,be mutants with powerful claws/talons,whatever or if one of the original rebels , psychic/quasi-magikal powers. Weapons can be of any modern type to generic sy-fi-ish.
The System :the ruling aristocracy whose members and families compose the government and human police force.
Objective: Simple- crush the rebellion and secure a nice cushy life style for themselves.
--Crystal City Police Force:Humans who patrol the streets and enforce law and order.
--The Emperator Army: Robotic soldiers armed with high powered lasers that assist the Police Force where the threat is of greater fighting significance.
--The Exterminators: Aliens , psychopaths, mercenaries, assorted powerful elements from across the stars and Crystal City itself ,brought together into an elite unit to crush the rebellion.
If human can also be cybernetic. The wealth of the aristocracy allows a wide variety of custom modifications to the human body. The exterminators can be any type of alien as long as you can make a reason for them joining up with this band of killers. Those of the system have access to higher grade and more exotic weaponry. Go crazy with it.
The year is 90XX . The place: Crystal City, the last remaining bastion of life on earth , a massive metropolis that juts from ruined earth , standing alone as the grim gravestone of a dead and subjugated planet. In every direction beyond the city , wastelands bare themselves in vain to sickly green skies that ignore silent cries for rain. Oceans of toxic waste burp filth into the atmosphere , as rivers of nuclear run-off scar the obscene landscape.
Long ago , the forces of Earth fought and lost a great war to the Emperators, an ancient race that in millennium past confined their conscious to mechanized bodies. Few in number , a single of their kind can control an entire armada of battleships and cyber-soldiers. Against such numbers and technology there was no resistance. Rather than conquer the earth , they instead choose to level it to the ground , preserving only a single city in what was once Antarctica, for the sole purpose of maintaining an outpost in this far flung and relatively empty area of space. Once the Crystal City was completed, they departed, leaving only a single Emperator Commander to watch over it from the safety of his satellite base orbiting the Earth.
The crystal city is a self contained bio-sphere. It never rains , and all food is grown below the ground in huge green houses that use geo-thermal heat to power growing lights and provide energy for the city. Water and oxygen are pulled from the outside air , distilled and filtered, and provided to the people.
The city is ruled by a council of 13 , whose member's ancestors betrayed humanity long ago and aided the Emperators. They control everything within the city , answerable only to the Emperator Commander, whose true name even they do not know , for it is said animals need not bother themselves with the workings and nature of their superiors. They live in relative luxery at the expense of the rest of the population.
Beyond the well-kept spires and golden streets of the Inner Zone live the rest of Crystal cities unfortunate citizens. In shanty houses, squalid conditions and overpopulation force the denizens into a rat like existence. Life is hard , short, and brutal. Only two paths await every born male : an endless life of work in the factories and gardens , manufacturing supplies for the war machine of the Emperators , and being conscripted into the Interstellar Legion where they will no doubt perish as cannon fodder on some far away world against outlandish alien species.
This has been life for as long as anyone alive can remember. But a new era is dawning. A year before the present, the Blue One emerged. Whether hologram , ethereal alien being , or angel no one who knows the tale can say for sure. But his impact was to become legend. In a single day , he spoke to several workers, at different locations ,all at once , about prospects of liberty , self-governance, about a universe free from the Emperators.
"The fires of Revolution are burning across the stars. The spirit of Liberty shall shatter the shackles of the Enslavers and the light of freedom will cast back the shadow of their dominion. Rise up, all you who still live,and Resist. "
As soon as it or they had come , they were gone. But those who had seen them were left with gifts of unimaginable power. Soon stories of men capable of moving objects with their minds and using arcane powers to fight the Cyber soldier police forces emerged. As these acts of terrorism increased, numerous other reports came in of other's joining them . Men with homemade bombs , stolen weapons , cybernetic black market implants, and mutant abilities aided their cause. It wasn't long before the Emperator decided to act. Thus was formed the Exterminators. Alien murderers and psychopaths from across nearby galaxies were brought in and formed into this elite unit to hunt down and crush the rebels. Amongst their numbers , traitorous humans and even those who had been gifted and turned their back on the others.
the Stage is Set. Will Mankind achieve freedom from alien tyranny, or will liberty be extinguished on earth forever?
