The only position that leaves me with no cognitive dissonance is atheism. It is not a creed. Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell. Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and love. There is nothing more; but I want nothing more.

Fufu was currently standing on the shores of Madagascar, now New Avalon, having an 'aggressive negotiation' with someone on the shore in a red and purple uniform. He was in his full form at the moment, hoping his skeletal appearance would let him slip onto the island without incident, his bike was shaped but the flames were down to a shimmer of heat rather than blazing flame like his own bones were to hide the hellfire.

"IF there was a mutant here who matched that description, they would be protected by the sovereignty of Avalon. No one without a mutant power is allowed more then one mile inland, that one mile barrier is our zone of hospitality where anyone may claim sanctuary or asylum regardless of personal foul or history. However, you step one inch past the mile and we scan every cell in your body. And you are magic, flatscan, not a mutant. Please, feel free to ride your bike over every inch of beach to your hearts content, the shore is breathtaking at sunset. Have a nice day and welcome to New Avalon.
Hey all, feeling under the weather, be back monday.

Ulik reached towards Sigurd with it's gun arm and opened fire. The powerful cannon ushered a stream of blaster bolts that tore gaping holes into Sigurd's surroundings.

Running for cover, Sigurd darted behind an old car as the heavy bolts began to dismantle the vehicle. It would be only seconds before the car was destroyed. He had to move...now.

Focusing himself, Sigurd sprinted down a side street, ducking between two building just as the car exploded in a ball of fire.

As he ran down the alleyway, part of the building to his right and a bit above him exploded, raining debris down onto Sigurd, who was now forced to find cover behind an old dumpster.
A mechanical roar echoed down the alleyway like a thunderclap as Ulik methodically walked towards it's prey.

Sigurd took a deep breath and went into a sprint as the hail of blaster bolts began anew.

Ducking around the other side of the building to his left, Sigurd got into position. Peering around the corner, Sigurd pulled out his gun and opened fire on Ulik. Though the laser bolts from his rifle peppered the monstrous cybiote, the creature paid them no heed as it continued it's advance.

Sigurd turned and ran just as the rocket launched by Ulik smashed into the side of the building, scattering chunks in all directions. The building shook violently and slowly began to crumble.

Sigurd pushed himself as hard as he could as he barely made it out of the way of the collapsing structure.
Ulik, unfortunately, wasn't as lucky as the entire structure came down on top of it.

The silence was deafening as Sigurd sat down and leaned against the side of old, run down store. He was breathing heavily and exhausted, but Sigurd couldn't help but smile at his fortune. Now he just needed to get up and get moving before Skurge-

Suddenly the rubble began to tremble, and an unscathed Ulik burst free and opened fire on a dumbstruck Sigurd.

"What the hell are you", Sigurd asked aloud as he ran for cover once again?

So far, Ulik had shrugged off blaster bolts from his assault rifle, and survived a three story building falling on top of it. And all without a scratch.

Sigurd really began to worry now, as he was running out of time and options. The thing continued it's steady pursuit of him through the city streets, all the while Sigurd did his best to avoid the barrage of weapon's fire that rained down on him, destroying everything around him and sending people scattering for their lives.

A laser bolt tore through his calf, and Sigurd cried out in pain as he collapsed to the ground.
Ulik stopped it's fire as it walked towards the downed Sigurd, it's heavy footfalls shaking the concrete with each step.

The beast reached out with it's clawed hand to scoop up the former Fenris Wolf, and a Sigurd knew then that he was finished.

    "Have at thee!"

A man in green leaped down from the building above, his energy blade cutting into Ulik's outstretched hand.
The blade did little damage, but it did cause the creature pause.

"Don't worry, friend", he spoke to Sigurd, "we're here the help!"

Ulik growled as it turned it's attention towards the newcomer, not noticing the massive red head charging in from the it's side, smashing into Ulik and sending it stumbling backwards.

"Odin's beard, you are a heavy beast!"

A third fighter, one wielding a power staff, came at the reeling Ulik from behind as the monster was still off balance. Knowing he only had a second at most to strike, the warrior reared back, the energy staff crackling with power.

The warrior thrust the staff into Ulik's back, causing the creature to spasm as orange energy coursed across it's body. Breaking the blade off into Ulik's back, the third warrior ran up to Sigurd and helped him to his feet.

"Quickly! We don't have much time before his sensors reboot!"

"Aye, we definitely should be making a hasty retreat!"

The three warriors grabbed the injured Sigurd and carried him away as the monstrous Ulik lay broken on the ground, though quickly repairing itself...

Ulik scanned the area, it's powerful sensors picking up the residual heat signatures left by the three warrior's fleeing footprints.
Slowly, the monstrosity took up the pursuit once again, hot on the trail of their former teammate and fellow soldier, Sigurd.

"Yes, sir", Skurge spoke over the comm link.
"No, sir...yes, sir. Ulik has picked up their trail and we're in pursuit now."

"It was one of the rebel factions, sir. Part of the Church. Don't know who, just yet, but we're going through Ulik's recorded data as we speak."

"Yes, sir, I'll let you know as soon as we have any new information."

The comm channel shut off and Skurge turned to his squad.

"All right, boys! Let's move it on out! We have ourselves a wayward wolf to find!"

The troops let out a howl and fell in line behind Skurge and Ulik as the hulking behemoth led them on the trail of the fugitive, Sigurd Jarrlson...

The hustle and bustle of the subway when just another day in the city. People communed to work or other places, minding their own business. Some worried about their work, others about their family. A few villains were imagining plans or their wealth. Heroes worried about the safety of the innocent or of the glory to come. As people waited for the train to stop, they were met with a surprise; it didn't. The train shot right past the crowd of awaiting bystanders, as the passengers were none the wiser. Mal-Ware had taken over. He needed to take the train to the designated extraction point; there he could remove the passengers, and then the train itself. This was technically thief, but with so many other more threatening villains around, no one would miss a single train. The train continued to speed to it's destination, getting every closer by the minute.

The Brothers, Kraftur and Mikill, Sons of Fenrir, Were currently... Enjoying a nice quiet day wandering the streets of the run-down city, quiet andpeaceful... nothing says Beasts can't enjoy going for a calming walk through the city, in human form of course... That is, other than the sounds of explosions, weapons-fire, and screaming civilians fleeing for their lives.

"Grrrmmm... It seems brother, that this land offers no peace as of yet... Suppose we shall go observe?"

"Indeed... We may only be able to gain extended peace if we were to return to our Tomb... Though, You are unwilling to abandon those you promised for us to help."

Mikill cast to his brother what could be a called a very 'loki-esque' grin, recieving a rather nuetral head-shake in-response before the brother's altered their path, instead heading through one of the buildings that was very quickly becoming abandoned as Civilian's fled for their lives from a pile of chaos that was approaching the other side of the building. Soon they stood upon the roof-top, just in-time to see a strange green-clad man in mid-leap from it's edge, urging the pair to move close enough to the edge to see what was going on.

"Ah, look dear brother, some of those 'church-goers' you mentioned."

"Yes, they seem like it... I don't believe we've met them formally, but I recognize the scent of those with the Church of Thor... At least Vaguely enough to trust them."

"Oh you and your silly nose, and... oh my, Look, that fat one could very well challenge 'you' for strength."

Mikill got a bit of a Side-ways sneer from his brother out of that, though he was not the type to be insulted by the prospect of someone else being stronger than he was... Regardless, the portion of the battle that they witness seemed to pass very quickly, and the pair pulled back from the edge as the warriors carried away their Injured charge. They quickly moved to the side, creating some distance between themselves and the collection of Fenris boys, stopping several buildings down the street and peering over to more thoroughly observe the group that was gathering around the damaged machine.

"Oh my, Brother, They appear to be members of the 'Fenris Wolfpack'... Pursueing that person that your 'church friends' rescued moments ago... Shall we show them the power of the 'real' Fenris name-sake that they clutter with their technology and guns?" As he spoke, Mikill's hand seemed to glow green and spread sickly looking lines of magic over his skin.

"I Would rather not 'start' a fresh battle in the middle of this already frightened city... Certainly not over something as petty as that... Though I can't say I'm not insulted by this as well... Twou'd be Preferable to give them a Delaying Ambush and back-off to track down the others... I would like to ask them what this event is all about... If it is simply the wolfpack making fools of themselves, Then I have no interest in getting involved, yet, it's possible there is more to this than their standard activities."

"*Playful Sigh* Ohhh, very well brother, I shall provide the usual 'deception' so that you can attack unnoticed, and then make our Retreat."

[Note: @Johnny, If this is too much of an Auto-hit, feel free to correct me.]

From the point of view of the Fenris Members on the street below, a glowing green ball seemed to arc through the air from a great distance away, for a short while looking like some fool may have been setting off fire-work, minus that it made no loud noises, until it arced down towards them and the sound of 'sizzling' could be heard from the approach of the orb. It would burst into a green cloud upon striking the ground anywhere near them, though they could easily dodge out of the way if they felt like it, and it was just as possible that their armor had filtration to avoid a chemical attack, of course, this was no mere poison cloud, Twas a cloud of magic. The magical essence of the cloud poured into the members, though it would only last for a few seconds, It would create illusions in their eyes, of their suits becoming stone and attempting to compact and crush them, yet, ultimately it would of course be harmless, Amidst this illusion there was also the sound of Crackling noises.

Once the illusion cleared a few second later, They would find their 'Ulik' Half Frozen solid, The Gun arm and head had been struck with a freezing effect that coated them in large blocks of ice, and like-wise, the legs had been struck, creating Sizeable blocks of Ice that anchored it to the ground so that it couldn't move. Of course looking around produced no 'visible' evidence of the brother's presence [Unless Ulik gets loose and scan whatever 'evidence' they may have left behind], and the brother's were infact already gone, down another side of a building and weaving through allies beyond their vision to follow the scent of the 'church goers'.

Kraft and Mik did not intend to do something that would slow down the Trio and their Injured charge, so they mitigated their tracking, keeping a suitable distance to avoid drawing attention and prompting them to stop or slow down to react to being followed. however, once they stopped somewhere, the pair intended to reveal themselves and see what would come next.

"Reports are all over the new feeds", Damian stated as he looked on from a safe distance at the man standing in the middle of a large mat, fighting hand-to-hand against three robotic sparring partners.
"People are seeing a masked vigilante all across Gotham. Somebody who's come to the aid of law breakers and attack honest GCPD officers. Somebody that looks an awful lot like the Batman of old."

Robert Kyle, the man who was fighting the robots (and winning), scoffed a bit at Damian's comment.

"Can't say I'm surprised", Robert replied as he blocked a punch with his left arm while simultaneously deflecting a kick with his right leg.

"The media is owned by Powers", Robert said as he ducked under a punch, sweeping wide with his right leg, taking two of the robots off of their feet.
Rising with an uppercut, Robert caught the third robot under it's chin, sending it sprawling to the floor.

"And I was fighting his corrupt police force and corporate owned criminals, like Edward Cobblepot", Kyle continued as he ducked back and out of the range of a round house kick from one of the two remaining robots. Robert sprung forward with a leaping 'Superman' punch, shattering the robot's jaw and sending it crashing down in a heap.
"If I wasn't painted as a menace, I'd be surprised."

"Either way, this is damn good"
, Damian grinned and strolled towards his pupil as Robert finished off the last robot.
"It means they're scared of you. Even though the Batman, before now, hadn't been seen in over twenty-years..."

"The scumbags of this city will never forget what he stood for...and what it means for them when he's around", Damian finished his thought as he stood next to Robert, handing him a towel to clean up as he scanned the bodies of his robotic opponents.

    "Nice workout"
    , he commented.
"I'd say you're ready to move up to level twelve."

"Been telling you that for a while now, 'old man'", Robert smirked.

"Easy, junior", Damian sighed, "Don't get too cocky now. Believe me when I say that I know what kind of trouble that can get you in."

    "Excuse me, sirs."

The automated voice of the manor interrupted before Robert could reply. Alfred, it was called, named after the loyal servant and friend to the Wayne family. Given Mr. Pennyworth's speech patterns, mannerisms, and even memories, Alfred controlled the entire manor and grounds, and even linked the cave with the batsuit for communication across the planet and even into low Earth orbit.

"There is a vehicle approaching the grounds: a Gotham-Corporate Police cruiser. And it appears to be in a hurry."

Robert's eyes went wide, thinking that somehow they had discovered that he was the Batman and were coming for them. But, Damian, laughing at his visible moment of panic, quickly calmed him down.

    "Relax, superhero"
    , Damian chuckled.
"It's an old friend of mine, and somebody I want you to meet..."

"Do you think it's smart to play it this way?" asked Miko.

She sat in the supple leather chair of Carter's study while he stood by the bookshelf and looked out the window at the lit up city lights of Nueva York.

"Yes," said Carter. He blinked and looked away from the window. "We need to know the link between the gangs and L-Corp. That's what my father was close to finding out... that's what killed him. After what happened, there is no way in hell I'll get close to his work without someone trying to make a move on me."

"But to put on a mask and act like a criminal?" she asked with raised eyebrow.

"Operative word here is act. We get in good with one gang and start busting up their rivals for them. We earn their trust while we also clean the streets. We climb the ladder and get close to the people at the top. It won't take long for us to figure out who's pulling their strings."

Carter walked towards Miko and sat down in the chair opposite from her. She was nodding slowly, and Carter could see the gears spinning in her head as she played out all the angles. That was another thing that surprised Carter after he had met Miko. Her time in the army had made her cautious and thoughtful about any action. He supposed being paralyzed from the waist down while in battle had led to that. The new chance at walking hadn't taken away her cautiousness, and Carter was glad for it. So far, her perspective on things had been a great value to him as he went about his Quixotesque mission to eliminate crime.

"I will agree with you," she finally said, meeting his eye. "What's that old saying? Catch more flies with honey than with vinegar?"

"Indeed," he said, pulling out his terminal. "And I know which fly to start on."

He played with the screen for several seconds before a hologram floated above the face of the device. With no photo to fill its place, the picture was a giant question mark. Under it was written the label "John Doe aka 'The Big Man'"

"The Big Man runs half of the Uptown rackets, and all of the Brooklyn ones. He's believed to be responsible for ordering at least two-dozen murders over the last three years."

Carter leaned back in his chair and smiled at Miko.

"Perhaps he's a much better boss than he is an enemy?"

    "Let's hope."

    Now

The two figures left a mass of broken and beaten bodies in their wake as they walked away from the waterfront. The men worked for a local crime boss, guarding the shipments of Crystal Salts that came in through the waterfront and was distributed to the dealers across the city. They had all been upright, mobile, and dangerous five minutes earlier. Then the two strangers appeared from the sky, landing in the middle of them and laying waste to them like a force of nature.

Nearly twenty men had been incapacitated in the fighting, three quarters of them taken out by the woman. Her miniscule frame betrayed her strength and skill. She had been a blur of motion as she took out the criminals guarding the shipping containers. Their weapons and fists had never touched her. Beside her was the taller man, his face obscured by the green gasmask. The gun in his hand had helped him make his own dent in the criminal army, but he had been found severely lacking compared to the woman.

They walked until they found what they were looking for. A fat, middle-aged man was huddling behind a barrel with a frightened look on his face. The man snapped his glove-clad hand and the woman yanked the man from his hiding spot and up in the air. He dangled by the lapels of his jacket while the woman's hard eyes stared him down.

"Just do it," he said. "Kill me."

"No," said the man. The voice that came out the gasmask's speaker was electronically distorted. "Everyone we took out tonight will live."

"Why?" asked the man, looking away from the woman and towards her partner. The glowing green eyes of the gasmask unnerved him. Something about the made him dart his eyes back to the woman who held him up.

"You work for the Big Man. It's not a question, I know it to be true. We want you and all your friends to send a message."

    "What message is that?"

"Tell him what we did here tonight, tell him about how we tore through his goons like toilet paper. We can do that anytime we want... and, for the right price, we can do it to the Big Man's enemies."

    "What?"

"You heard me," the man said, pulling his gun out and aiming it at the goon. "This was an audition. He'll know how to find me."

A puff of green smoke shot from the gun. The woman turned her head away as the tiny smoke cloud encompassed the man's face. He coughed violently twice before he went slack. The woman eased his unconscious body down to the ground. She stepped away and the man slipped a black card into the unconscious man's jacket. It read:

The train came to a screeching halting, to the shock of it's passengers. The bewildered people looked aorund, unsure of what was going on. Babies where crying, men were angry. Then suddenly, one of the doors were ripped off it's hinges. Machines began to file in, tearing the train into parts. People screamed in terror, some who got in the way where moved, forcibly. Mal-Ware assumed his Avatar form.

A series of static came from the metallic hulk, making teh machines work faster as people fled. The robots continued to break down the train into parts, until they turned their attention to one man. He was a young thirty year-old man, walks with a cane. He has prosthetic legs. Mal-Ware analyzed the man, and noted that he would need those. He ordered his machines to remove the man's legs, and then continued to tear apart the train.

The police were in the distance but they were getting closer using a stealth approach closing on the narrows of Gotham City. This was the kind of place you didn't just go to. This was the kind of place you avoided at all costs. The dregs of society, the lost, and those who Derek Powers lived to make examples of lived here. The police usually avoided this area, but when one word leaked out that the resistance leaders were possibly meeting here, this was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

Luckily for the resistance leaders Black Arrow decided to follow along, otherwise they would be caught for sure. Now though they had a fighting chance to escape.

She looks through a set of binoculars and puts them back in her pouch on her belt and shakes her head slowly.

Gotham City's finest. Sure right these clowns couldn't sneak up on a deaf person if they tried. Then again the guns they're carrying aren't exactly police issue. Wait a minute....Those are straight from the Wayne-Powers basement which means Powers has his hands in this one. I gotta a feeling and it won't be pretty for any of them if they get caught.

Black Arrow fires 2 bolts simultaneously taking out two separate electrical box causing sparks and power outages along 2 city blocks. This causes the approaching police force to stop for a moment.

And that's the break I need!

With that Black Arrow fires a cable-arrow at the parking garage and slides over. She quickly retracts the arrow and sees the resistance leaders who are looking around at the power outage.

Black Arrow say to them, "The police are on their way here! Clear out! Get to the sewer opening on the left side, go 10 feet 3 take the tunnel to the left and the other 3 go right. Then use the Crystal Eye maneuver tactic for 50 feet and then get out of the sewers."

They look at each other for a moment and Arrow says, "Now!"

The leaders begin to move out and one of them says to Arrow, "Thank you. My name is Benjamin."

Arrow looks at him and gives a slight nod as they disappear into the night.

I know full well who you are Benjamin Ocoha. You're a shipping clerk at Wayne-Powers and if it wasn't for me covering your tracks you would've brought the resistance down 2 weeks ago. Using company resources like that...you idiot...I've got to teach these people better tactics for...

Just then a voice over a bullhorn says, "ATTENTION IN THE BUILDING! WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED! COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP! YOU HAVE 30 SECONDS BEFORE WE COME IN! "

Arrow conceals herself behind a pillar and peeks out far enough just to see how many police there are.

6 on each side. 24 in all...my guess they're Wave Soldiers dressed as cops to give the whole operation an air of legitimacy. Well time to go before I work up a sweat

Arrow begins sprinting up several ramps until she reaches the top of the garage.

Now a quick shot over and...

Suddenly she is bathed in a spotlight.

    DAMN! A stealth-copter should've known better.

A voice says through a PA, "YOU ON THE ROOF! STAND DOWN! GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEES AND LOCK YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD!"

Never understood that expression. Stand down...how do you do that?

Arrow begins to kneel but in one smooth motion she fires bolt at the spotlight causing the copter to buckle and sway as the light goes out.

She then fires a cable bolt at the copter and swings away. Arrow fires another and makes it across to another building. Arrow then maneuvers through a series of back allies until she finally gets back to her loft. Arrow enters through a secret rooftop entrance and takes her mask off once she gets into her home.

Cassie opens a bottle of water and says, "Well another fun night in Gotham is in the books." She chugs her water and heads towards her bedroom.

Cassie starts her shower as she also begins reviewing the evening's events.

That was way too close! Gotta be more aware of my surroundings. People are starting to know about me, which means the stakes are gonna go up.

Cassie removes the rest of her costume and puts in a secret storage unit behind her dresser.

Maybe after my shower I'll work on creating some more arrows...wonder about one with a boxing glove. Nah it's been done already.

There she was in Seattle, Washington, making a deal for the company. Karen Starr, a big name CEO in one of the largest Corporations in the known world. She was making deals that would help the world, new bold ideas, from a small company run by Young CEO's. The meeting was going smoothly. The atmosphere she presented was all in her appearance. She wore an Onyx colored business suit, that showed a sense of power, but a void that all of her fear was sucked into, but a color that would give a sense of nervousness. This is what she was going for as an edge, but that wasn't the personality she portrayed. For all intents and purposes she was a friendly woman, that would not back down in the board room, one who would make others live up to their end of a bargain made. All was said and good, she had gotten her goal, and made a new addition to the company.

On her way out to her rented car trying to make a call to Stark, an explosion was heard. In the distance she heard laughing. She concentrated her hearing to try and pinpoint the source. The laughing was heard again as several people were running her direction. A blur was seen around her car, and than a blur of white shot into the air. It was seconds before she reached the source. Lanterns, of the yellow Variety, she wasn't sure if they were still known as the Sinestro Corps still, but what she did know is that they were causing trouble.

She grabbed the male and pulled him back into a subduing hug to which the male replied with a malicious smile "Nice tits". Karen sighed "You know how old that joke gets. You need to stop this, first and final warning." Another voice was heard behind her one of a young girl "Hey, cow boobs, get your hands off my friend". A big yellow, opaque hand grabbed her and tossed her Karen at the ground, causing her to let go of the male. Karen stopped just before she hit the ground "Why does no one want to take the easy route" She shot back up for a flying tackled, only to be met with a yellow shield from the male. The shield cracked but it was enough time for the girl to come around and get her with a spiked yellow glove. The force pushed her to the side 20 feet before she stopped. "Alright so you aren't taking the easy route." The fight continued on between her and the two Yellow Lanterns.

Rumiko was having issues of her own, except this one dealt with malfunctioning robots. Apparently there had been a saboteur in her company. Her latest line of military bots, meant for battle purposes. And someone had managed to get in and sabotage them, the man had been caught, but it was a nice little blow to the company that she would have to sort out later. For now though she was in the cyber suit, in the Ironguard interface, flying through the air. "Jarvis, Status" the robotic voice of an older man was heard in the HUD "The robots have been contained by your security forces, but casualties are mounting slowly. And you missed a call from Miss Starr." Rumiko nodded "Thank you Jarvis".

Ironguard came closer. She activated the scanners, getting an estimate, on simulated casualties and possible scenarios, paths of least resistance, and scenarios that would cause the least casualties. "Jarvis, notify security forces that Ironguard is here as backup.". Ironguard swooped in, shooting controlled repulsor beams at the attacking bots. Security forces backed away, but kept a tight perimeter. Ironguard landed, taking secondary scans. Rumiko looking at the readouts. <Alright so far so good> Rumiko thought to herself, as several of the military bots came to bear at her. She needed to keep at least one intact to see how they were sabotaged. She needed to end this quick however. She could pursue the fight, but with this many that were showing up on her scanners, odds were that casualties wopuld get higher.

    Spoiler

"Jarvis backup all battle information and start a system reboot the moment I go down." The computer voice replied "Yes, Miss Stark". Her plan was to send out a wide radius EMP wave that would bring down the bots plus the the power of the few blocks around her. She would need time to charge the EMP blast so for now she was forced to fight the bots, blasting away with her repulsors, and taking them down via melee, trying to do as little damage as possible while trying to take them down fast, not an easy task, but it was either that, or not have an answer for the general, and the general was not an easy man to answer to if she didn't have answers.
