A military experiment gave hundreds of individuals a mutation in their genes that was supposed to increase their neurons to surpass exceptional mind lengths. When it didn't work the military sent the experiments back into the world, and didn't even think about the problem. However, a couple of years later, the mind extensions finally worked! Some took up work for a company called Praxx, who want to take the world down. Some decided to live as normal humans, going with normal life. The rest took up work as mercenaries, and...well there's not much to say on that matter.

The scientist notes left explanations about the different types of the experiments

Alpha Z: Their powers have the least potential, but are the second strongest. Their powers are corelated through smell. Good smells, their powers are usable. Neutral smells, unusable powers. Bad smells, powers backfire.
Beta Q: Powers are corelated through addictions. Doing the thing they are addicted to lets them use their powers.
Delta 0: Powers are usable after eating things that are sweet.
Zeta 5: They're solar powered.

In addition to these side effects, the experiments are not susceptible to disease. This leaves war time insanity out of the question.

One: adding strength isnt actually a mind distortion. Think of a distortion as a brain enhancement. It gains a power that anyone would get, but no one else knows how to get. Zeta 5's are the ones with real mutations, being able to control water or turn people's minds into mush.
