Howdy, I'm Mollay.
You have no idea how great it feels to be part of a roleplaying community once more. I enjoy watching each indivual's creative take on roleplaying, it's positively fascinating. It's overwhelming to finally be back, I do hope I'm greeted with an array of exciting scenarios and fun roleplayers.
I'm awfully shy, I must admit. So right now I'm an anxiety mess. I'm from the tiny little island of the UK and I am living in the dim little country of England. My nickname is 'bambi' because I have huge eyes and thin, unstable legs. I work for a small photography business, I do wedding photography on the side. I'm in my first year of college and I just need a release.
Basically I just want some fantastical fun.

And I do have a question; do I just, jump straight into roleplaying or do I have to apply for certain threads and get my character approved or whatever?

Hmm... Elaborate? Your interest in media, literature, culture, etc. It gives one an idea of what kind of stories you might be interested in.
And as far as jumping in goes, well... That is really up to you now isn't it? You mentioned being part of a role playing community (online or offline?) once before so I guess it's your call.
If this helps there are basically two different sections for RPs. The first would be the Out of Character (OOC) Thread which is obviously where all the out of character conversations happen, rules for the thread are posted, and things like character sheets and the premise to the story are found.
Then there is your In Character (IC) Thread where the actually story is taking place. Usually frowned upon to post OOC in these threads.
There are also the interest threads where people post an idea they might have to fish out whether or not people might be, you guessed it, interested.
Forgot to mention, some GMs might want you to send them your character and then they will post it in the OOC, while others simply ask you to post it. Most however will still require approval. It all really depends on if your playing in an advanced rp or something a bit more casual.

That's cleared a lot up for me, I'm familiar with all that, just needed reminding I suppose. I have been part of an online rp since I was quite young; I don't mean to brag or anything but I was commended and well known for my descriptive, detailed roleplaying technique. So I'm just wondering if that's allowed here? What I mean by that is, can I type several paragraphs? Or is it limited..

Ah. I understand. Well that all depends on you. The free thread is often for people of, let's say, less experience or writing skill... A place for one liners, no previous set up, etc. The casual is maybe a paragraph at a time or so, often for jumping in sooner then later. Which leaves the advanced section, probably the section for you. This section is often for writers with greater experience.
That being said it really all depends on the rp and original poster itself. Usually the OOC Thread for an RP will state what they GM would prefer their length of post to be, though this usually specifies a minimum post, and not often a maximum.
