Biography:
Adriana Allegra Lopez was born in a poor neighborhood in Miami, FL, to a single mother. Her earliest days were spend playing on the tile floor in the back of the laundromat where her Cuban mother worked long hours. She was three years old when her mom was gunned down in the crossfire of a gang shootout, and when she was found by police, she was promptly shipped off into the Florida State Child Welfare system. Adriana grew up passed from foster home to foster home, and quickly learned two important lessons: 1. Nobody thought she had a prayer of amounting to anything. 2. Fuck them. She became a hostile and calculating child, and fewer and fewer foster parents would put up with her. When she was twelve, Adriana was moved to her last foster home under the care of a Baptist pastor, Peter Daniels and his wife, Moriah, where for the first time she was encouraged to thrive in school and at home. She was, at first, hostile as ever, but the Daniels had fostered many children over the years, and they had seen it all. Eventually, their special brand of firm love won her over and within two years she was regularly attending school, devouring every book at her disposal, and earning As. When she was fourteen, the Daniels surprised her on her birthday with the best present she could ask for: they legally adopted her. That summer, she surprised them back: she was baptized as a Christian. When she entered high school, Adriana's mind was already clearly made up with regard to her future: she joined the JROTC and worked hard, earning grades good enough to buy her a scholarship to VATech, where she continued with the ROTC program. Upon graduation, she accepted her commission as a Second Lieutenant and was stationed in GA. She completed two tours in Iraq, earning a handful of commendations for bravery and valor. During her first tour, she befriended several members of a unit of Rangers and upon returning home, joined in the movement to open combat and special forces positions to women, intending to become a Ranger herself. It was slow-going, though, and-- frustrated by the ten years it took her to achieve the rank of Captain, and the slow approval process for shattering the brass ceiling, Daniels was nearly at her wits end when she returned home from her second tour, severely injured from an exploded IED. Her leg healed (though she still walks with a slight limp) but when the doctors informed her she would never be able to have children, something in her broke, and her faith in God dissolved. She was given an honorable discharge and three months later, the CIA contacted her about an agent position that would include sniper training. Eager to begin anew, Daniels accepted the position, but a year in still found herself wallowing behind a desk and itching for adventure, wondering when she could put her in depth training to use. That was when Legion Incorporated contacted her about a position in the field. The recruiter assured her that the brass ceiling didn't exist in the military corporate sector. Daniels was leery of the same promise she had heard before, but the sniper and spec ops training was a real temptation, and her gig at the CIA seemed to be going nowhere, so she took the position. The jury's still out with her on whether it was the right decision though.
Personality:
As her call sign would indicate (given her by her fellow soldiers in Iraq as a reference to Wonder Woman's weapon of choice), Lasso is a no-nonsense kind of woman. She's naturally assertive, sarcastic, and friendly enough, but she has a short fuse when she believes she is being underestimated or overlooked. She tends to ignore feelings and shoves her own fears, doubts, and insecurities to the back of her mind, where they come out only in quick angry bursts, preferably when she's alone, though she's been known to take out stress on a shooting target or three. Recent events have taken their toll though: she is a lot more serious now, her sass knows fewer bounds, and she smiles less and less.
