Fabiano seems like he will have some choice for his tutor, that's good.

    It's pretty simple:
RPing is more like collaberative storytelling than it is like actual Role-Playing Games. Generally, each 'player' (writer), takes one (or more) characters, and writes the story from their perspective. Many RPs are written in third-person past-tense, and it is almost always bad form to control another player's character. Unlike table-top RPGs, RPs rarely make use of chance elements such as dice. What drives an RP is usually the players working together to write a good story - not competing on the behalf of their characters.

Forum RPs (also known as play-by-post) may have several threads, but the main two are called OoC and IC. OoC is short for 'Out of Character', and is for the players to discuss the RP. The IC is short for 'In-Character', and is where the story actually takes place, with the players writing their part of the story in turn. On this forum, there are separate sections for OoC threads and IC threads. There is also a section for 'Interest Checks' - where members of the forum propose ideas and see if other members would like to join in.

The vast majority of RPs require players to sign up with a character sheet. A character sheet is a sort of form that contains the basic information about the character that anybody would need to know. They usually look like a variation of this:

If you want to join an RP, you will usually be expected to fill out a character sheet so the GM (or Game-Master - the person that creates and runs the RP) can approve of who joins their game.

On this forum, we have three standards: Free, Casual, and Advanced, all in separate sections. You can find clearer information about the expectations of each in their respective sections. Your best bet is to just get stuck in - probably best to start in Free or Casual (not Advanced), and you'll soon pick it up.

That's the basics. Every RP is different, but the majority are as I've described above. Some people I don't know, but who I'm sure are great, have PMed you, and hopefully they can help you out. If for any reason they can't, hopefully my explanation helps, and, if not, feel free to send me a PM with any questions you have.
