I can see those traits possibly derived from the slang meaning of bear, because you've got to be pretty damn courageous, confident, and charismatic to be able to pull it off, but the animal? Bears (the animal, to be clear) are pretty damned solitary creatures, so those sorts of traits are odd and don't fit.
