    A Bizarre Story IC

Welcome to A Bizarre Story, a supernatural mystery/action RP based on the anime/manga series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure!
The OOC topic can be found here.
    New Players are welcome!

In a small, sleepy city on the west coast of the United States, an archaeology project unearths a stone thought to be a meteor that hit the planet long ago. The meteor is put in a museum, and the discovery brings much needed attention to the city...until it is stolen by a mystery thief. According to the security cameras and all guard personnel, the stone was there one moment and gone the next--no images or witnesses were able to provide any clue as to the thief's identity or the method he used. But the theft is soon forgotten as a much larger problem arises.

A series of murders leaves the city terrified. Night after night, people are stabbed to death with no clues left behind. Even eyewitnesses to the murders cannot offer any insight--the victim is fine one moment and dead the next, and no one can remember seeing anything or anyone. The mystery confounds police, and superstitious fear spreads throughout the city. Rumors about the identity of the murderer and his methods are everywhere, but the truth is nowhere to be found.

But then, someone survives the attack. They are found with near-fatal wounds, yet still alive. They are rushed to the hospital, and soon seized by a high fever. For days they lie comatose...but when they awaken, they find the assailant's mark completely healed--and their memory of the incident, gone. The police are unable to obtain anything that could lead to the murderer's identity. It is as if this person is completely invisible, as if any trace of their existence has been erased. Still the murders continue...but soon, other survivors emerge as well. They repeat the same process as the first--their wounds heal with shocking speed, but their memories disappear. And yet, in place of what has been taken from them, something new has been given. They begin to discover strange, supernatural powers...and make contact with beings that aren't at all human.

You are one of the survivors of the murderer's assaults. You did not see, hear, or in any way sense the attacker...nor can you remember exactly what you were doing before you were attacked, save for what you can deduce from where you were found and what items you had on your person at the time. You only know that now, something about you is different and...bizarre.

You begin to discover strange abilities...and soon, a being reveals itself to you.

This is only the beginning...of A Bizarre Story...

I was trying to kill myself.

Joey Jonasson looked down at his chest, where only a few days ago a deep gash had been. The blade had stabbed him in the left pectoral, and it had gone deep. If he hadn't been found on the street--how had he gotten down from the rooftop?--lying in a puddle of his own blood, someone else would have saved him that effort of trying to end his own life. But he had survived. And now he wasn't so sure he wanted to try again. Everything felt different now.

There was a knock at the door, and the detective walked in. Joey shifted in his chair by the window, turning away from the view of the city to look at the grizzled man. The guy could have stepped right out of one of those old-fashioned noir movies--he had an overcoat, a fedora, and bristles on his chin that looked rough enough to grate cheese.

"You feeling any better today? The doctor said they were letting you go."

"Yes." Joey sighed. "But I still don't remember anything. I've told you everything I can."

"Just like all the others." The detective crossed his arms. "Every single one. How is it even possible?"

"Why ask me? If I knew, I would have told you." Joey said, and turned away again. "Sorry."

"Well, if you do remember anything, you have my card." said the detective. He looked around the room, his gaze pausing for a moment on the duffle bag on the bed and the folded clothes next to it before moving back to the boy. "Take it easy, kid."

He left, and Joey got up. He decided to go ahead and change out of the hospital gown; the sooner he was able to get out of here, the better. As he was throwing on his clothes, he happened to glance out of the window, over the city...and for a moment, he thought he saw someone standing on a rooftop, just as he had done that night. But when he blinked, the vaguely human-shaped speck was gone. He shook his head and turned away. Grabbing the remainder of his things and throwing them into the duffel bag, he left the room and headed for the elevator down the hall.

Andre was at an amusement park, minding his own business and flirting with pretty strangers. In his right hand was a soft drink, and in the left was a bag of live goldfish which he had won a little earlier. As he was about to enter the restroom though, about to relieve himself, he felt a sharp pain through his back before collapsing onto the ground, his vision going black. The last thing he was able to hear was sound of civilians rushing to him and talking loudly. To his despair, the last smell was that of fish and urine. At least he didn't have to use the restroom anymore.

It was about half a week after the incident. Andre had no idea what had happened, though to most of his knowledge, he wasn't even conscious until a few seconds ago. To his left was a heart monitor, which beeped in a permanent and perpetual pace. He dropped his head down on the pillow, as he sighed. "What the hell just happened?" he thought.

A nurse entered the room. To Andre's despair, a male nurse; A big bald black one too."Good, you're awake" said a comforting bass. "Huh? Yeah, I am." Andre responded "Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?" The nurse raised an eyebrow "Well you got stabbed pretty deep. It went into your diaphragm too- you should a' stopped breathing and everything." The nurse sounded surprised. "Cool! I lived!"

"Even more surprising was we didn't have to do any surgery. You healed right back up the moment we tried getting your results. Almost thought you were dead. We were wrong. You didn't seem conscious at the time, and so we had to put you hear." Andre laughed, surprised at his recovery. "No scars either" the nurse remarked "Well, if you think you can, there are some people waiting for you down stairs. Your cloth should be in the locker over there." Andre responded wiith a stupid looking smile.

"It is I, Andre! Who survived a serial murder!", "What? I, Andre do not feel a thing!", "I, Andre need no bed rest!", and "I, Andre, would have kicked the murderer's ass had he come at me from the front!" were all things Andre had given to his interviewers as a response. Those, as well as simply "Hi mom!" Andre then walked back into the hospital to get a soda.

Anyone who would've seen the small girl, sitting alone on the bench of the small park near the hospital, would've said that she was just enjoying the pleasant afternoon while looking at passerby's. They would've looked at her balancing her legs back and forth and thought, "Maybe she's expecting someone, a parent, maybe a lover?"
Nobody would've said she had just received a fatal wound to the chest a few days ago. Or had an unbelievably high fever that kept her comatose for the past week. Or that she really should be in that nearby hospital, maybe even in a coffin by now, and not there, sitting on a park bench and nervously balancing her legs, trying to put her thoughts together.
And yet all of it was true. And still, here she was.

Irene couldn't believe any of it. It didn't help that she didn't remember any of that, and knew of it only because of the inspector that came to visit her, some middle-aged man in an overcoat and fedora. She remembered seeing a similar detective in 4 different movies before. She also read about one in 6 different novels.
While trying to remember how many comics had a similar man in them as well, Irene looked nervously back at the hospital. She escaped without anyone noticing somehow, and was afraid someone would come and look for her; her parents, she overheard, would have preferred her to stay for longer. But she didn't want to stay. She was feeling fine. Still a little feverish, but it might be from the shock. She would be fine.

"Thank you for helping me get out."

Irene felt compelled to say this. She didn't know who she was talking to, but nonetheless, she knew someone - or something - had heard her.

The elevator opened, and Joey stepped out into the lobby to see what looked to be a crowd of reporters hassling a guy around his age. The responses he was giving all seemed full of hot air. But the newspeople ate it up nonetheless, and Joey just shook his head. Then he noticed that the guy was leaving, and the reporters were searching for a new source of information to suck dry. One of them turned towards him.

"Give me a break..." the teen sighed.

"Excuse me!" the reporter charged up and practically threw his microphone in Joey's face. He gave his name, which Joey immediately forgot, and the news channel he worked for before firing an onslaught of questions. The cameraman in the back just stood there, his equipment like some kind of giant insect perched on his shoulder. The reporter asked for his name, and why he was at the hospital today--Joey told a half-lie and said he was just "in for some surgery," just because he didn't want to get swamped as another survivor of the attacks--and what he thought about the killing spree going on around town.

"Obviously it's bad." the boy huffed, trying to back away. "I hope they catch the guy soon, but uh, I gotta go--" More reporters were headed over now, eager to see what their comrade had turned up. It was like being surrounded by a pack of dogs in suits. As Joey pushed by one of them with a hurried "excuse me," he finally burst out of the crowd--and into the path of a nurse pushing a metal trolley full of towels and sheets and other things. She couldn't see anything over all the stuff piled on the cart, and didn't even bother slowing down. Joey flung out his hands in front of himself to take the impact--only for the cart to stop right in front of him. The nurse must have seen him after all...or had she?

The nurse looked down at the cart's wheels--why had they stopped turning? She pushed harder, trying to unstick them by force, but the trolley refused to budge. On the other side of the mountain of laundry, Joey quickly resumed fleeing from the reporters. He looked back to see if any of them were following him--and saw the nurse's cart suddenly go shooting away from her like a spring being released. It flew right into the crowd of journalists, causing a thoroughly satisfying cloud of chaos. Joey couldn't help but smirk as he headed out the doors.

No one noticed the hand print embedded in the cart's steel surface.

As Joey stepped outside, he looked around for the nearest bus stop. Spotting one in front of the hospital, he adjusted his dufflebag over his shoulder and headed for a nearby bench, in front of a small park-like area full of flowers and fountains and that kind of thing. There was someone else sitting there already, but surely they wouldn't mind. Joey took a seat next to a younger looking girl, muttering a quiet "hi there" before staring at the ground. He always felt awkward, not just around girls, but around pretty much anyone. He sighed, and wondered if he could fix that--otherwise he'd just be in the same boat he'd been in before...the one that nearly drowned him.

Irene felt her face turn red, and suddenly a thousand questions rushed in her mind. Was the young man talking to her? No, it couldn't be her. But there was nobody else there. But, she doesn't know him. Well, she did see him, he was getting out of the hospital. Was he sent out to get her back in? But he's too young to be working as a nurse. Or maybe he just looks that way. Is there young people working at a hospital? So many questions she couldn't answer. She hated not being able to answer questions.
Then, she realized that all this time she was still staring at the hospital, and had only glanced at her neighbor sideways. Well, if she never addressed him, she'd never know if it was really her.

"Hi" she dryly said, quickly turning her startled red face towards him.
He was staring at the ground.

She immediately regretted saying that single, two-letter word. What if it wasn't her he was talking to? Maybe he was on the phone? Maybe he was talking to an animal? She'd look silly then.

"Um," she tried to add, as to salvage herself. "I mean, "high"! That graffiti is drawn in a pretty "high" place! I-I wonder how they went there."

And saying that, she turned her head directly upwards, at a nearby apartment building, right on the other side of the street in front of the park. Indeed, there was a graffiti there, right under the top window. It was something unreadable written in sharp, airbrushed street-styled letters. She had noticed it earlier when she got out of the hospital.

Joey glanced out of the corner of his eye as the girl spoke. Absently chewing his lip, he looked up at the graffiti she was talking about. He wasn't really sure if she was trying to make conversation or what...it kind of sounded like she was just thinking aloud. Internally, he sighed.

Two socially awkward penguins walk into a bar. Neither of them can work up the courage to talk to the other. He thought. Then, Am I really comparing my life to memes now?

"I, uh, dunno." he mumbled. "I guess they coulda...leaned out the window or something."

Meanwhile, back inside the hospital, as Andre got his soda, a shiver suddenly ran down his spine. When he turned, he saw a man leaning against the wall not too far away, looking directly at him with just a hint of a smile.

The man had white hair, though it looked darker near the roots, and eyes that were an unnatural shade of red. He wore a white, short sleeved dress shirt with the collar popped up, tucked into a pair of black slacks with a studded leather belt and black loafers. He was also wearing a black, fingerless glove on his left hand and a number of those brightly colored little rubber bracelets--the kind that had different slogans and logos on them--on his right wrist.

"You said you were attacked by that...mmm, serial killer, didn't you?" said the man. He sounded a bit like Tim Curry. "That was some awful big talk back there, though. I wonder..." The man's smile grew. "...what you'd really do if the killer showed up in front of you."

Irene almost jumped. So he -was- talking to her.
Her heart started beating. Was it just a kind stranger? Or... What if it was the serial killer she had heard about, out to finish his job? She looked back towards the boy. He didn't really look like a serial killer. And he acted so shy, how could he kill someone? But then, the killer can't be a really good one; he failed to kill her. She gulped. What if the killer only attacks when someone is being mean to them? She read a lot of stories in the newspapers about young men turned wrong because they were bullied before. Maybe she should be extra nice to this guy.
She opened her mouth and tried to speak.

Andre opened his can of soda, twisting the cap, then breaking it off before throwing it to the nearest trashcan, hitting the rim, and staying there, held up by the bag. He took a small sip, before seeing a man approaching at the corner of Andre's eye. Something doesn't seem right though. the man's smile was a bit too big to be natural. It seemed all too ominous for Andre to really trust. While the man had white hair, he looked far too healthy to be in a hospital. Perhaps he was seeing someone, walking up to Andre simply to ask for directions. Maybe he was an interviewer from outside, or an investigator for murder.

Another question about the murderer. He was either an interviewer or a curious passerby. He could be a spy, which did make Andre pretty excited. WHile the smile came off as a bit suspicious, Andre seemed to ignore it, and instead let his pride take over. "I thought that I told everyone already! I, Andre, would kick that fucker's ass! I, Andre do not back down, and I do not run away! Yeah! He'll wish he'd picked a different victim!" Andre made a few punching motions in the air in front of the man.

"You really are, mmm, confident, aren't you?" said the white haired stranger. He stepped closer, locking eyes with Andre. "But...what if the killer wasn't, mmm, normal?" He ran a hand through his hair--the roots were definitely darker. He must have dyed his hair. Did that mean the weird red eyes were just contacts? "What if the killer had...shall we say...supernatural abilities?" He smiled again, a knowing smile, a laughing smile. "You might think that's silly, of course. And I'd say you're right. But, humor me for a moment." He crossed his arms and turned partially away, still looking at Andre over his shoulder.

    "What if..."

"Say what?" Joey looked at the girl dumbly for a moment. Had she just introduced herself? He thought he had caught a name in there somewhere...Irene? He gulped and scratched the back of his head nervously.

"I'm, uh, Joey. Joey Jonasson. Nice to meet you." A rumbling sound made him turn his head. Coming up the street towards the two was the local city bus. Joey breathed a sigh of relief. The girl seemed nice enough, but he hated awkward situations like this. Now he could get out of here and...

Something was wrong. The bus wasn't slowing down. In the driver's seat, Joey could just make out a slouched figure. Then the sound of screams reached his ears, as the bus drew closer and closer and those on board began to panic. Suddenly the vehicle ramped the curve--it was coming right at them!

"Look out!" Joey yelled, shoving the girl off the bench as the multi-ton machine bore down on him--

"What if...the killer had a power like no one else?" the white haired stranger finished, just as echoing cries came from outside. If Andre looked, he'd see a wayward bus about to crush two people under its rapidly turning wheels as it ramped up over the curb, its front end in the air as it bore down with a bestial roar. One of the people shoved another one away, then just stood there, dumbfounded, as the shadow of the monstrous transit loomed ever closer with each passing second--

    Then, a power was unleashed.

Joey sat there, shivering, sweat rolling down his brow. He looked up at the bus, stopped there in mid-air as if frozen in time. Nothing was moving anymore--the tires had ceased turning. The people on the bus, just moments before clinging to it with all their strength, found themselves unable to stand up, sit back down, or even let go of the poles and seats they had grabbed.

And there, standing in front of Joey, was a man...but he clearly wasn't human. His skin, sectioned into plates like some sort of robot, gleamed bronze. His hair was a fiery red chrome, and so were parts of his face and his arms, which were currently stretched out before him...holding the bus. He didn't seem to support its weight--rather, Joey thought, somehow knowing, that he'd merely stopped the vehicle entirely. Through Joey's eyes, a ripple passed up through the man's arms, down his body, and into the ground...and the ground began to move! The earth cracked and groaned as it suddenly heaved up, carrying Joey with it like a small wave that rumbled for several feet before dumping him not too far away from the girl in a flowerbed. The bronze man looked at Joey, his expression impassive...and then disappeared.

The bus hit the ground with a great crash, cracking the windshield and eliciting more screams from the people inside as their motion resumed. Joey still sat there, dumbfounded.

    "What...the...hell?"

Sterling had been doing her thing. Deep into a rendition of Hysteria by Muse, gliding between avid spectators and eyeing their pockets. She remembered thatherlastthoughtwasthat she was making a killing today. A touch ironic, as it was at that moment someone tried to kill her.

Sterling gasped as she awoke from her slumber, a little after the others. She felt an awkward draft. What was she wearing? A hospital gown, apparently. Following that logic, she imagined this was a hospital. She glanced around. She wanted her clothes, her violin... and an alcoholic beverage. Something strong. She voiced this, as well as a good number of choice expletives, to the world in general, in the hopes that someone would hear and oblige. Of course, she could get up and look around herself but this bed was a lot more comfortable than anything she'd slept in for a while and she was bloody tired after her experience... whatever it was. She mused over this lapse in memory as she went back to sleep.
