School Roleplay with a Romeo & Juliet Theme?

A 21st century school roleplay, with a plot and theme revolving around Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Modern versions of the characters in a school environment, forbidden lovers. Different cliques with Romeo and Juliet style characters, there can be more than one pair of lovers, as seen in the CS Skeleton.

Portrayed characters mean you can play any Romeo and Juliet character, even someone else is already portraying that character.

Populars: Jocks, cheerleaders and girls who have everything. To be popular you've got to be one of these things, or be outstandingly pretty. They rule the school, putting down everyone else with their platinum blonde locks and slick tanned skin. They don't care for school or students lower down in the social pyramid, they're shallow and materialistic. Some aren't all bad though, they can be kind and funny, but never to kids in other social circles, the thought of it!

Nerds: Typically smart and not very good looking, but the name can be deceiving. Most who go around under this clique name are labelled there because of an oddity, hobbies or talents, likes or dislikes, and left. They're generally kind-hearted gamers who don't really like the populars, but not all of them.

Alternatives: Dark and gloomy with very loud music, Alternatives is a nicer way to say what everyone else calls them; goths and emos. A label most of them despise deeply, with a bad stereotype and the most bullying in the entire school, they mostly keep to themselves in the dark corners of the school, or at the back of class.

He's a little bit of a nerd, so fully appreciates his place as a 'popular' kid.
History: Oliver lives with both of his parents and his two sisters. He's a middle child in a wealthy family and often gets overlooked, since he doesn't want to be a doctor or a lawyer like his sisters. His father is a successful businessman in the dieting industry and his mother is a five-star chef turned housewife. Oliver has a generally happy home life but doesn't really like to talk about home.
Extra: Oliver is very good at keeping secrets, so for him to disclose information means he trusts someone a lot.

Appearance:

Anamaria is an above average height, standing at 5’7”, 5’10” with her heels on. She has a high metabolism, coupled with a mesomorph build that helps her gain muscle when she works out. Her legs are her favorite feature, if not her most noticeable. They are long and thin due to her being a dancer. Her bust isn’t small, yet it’s still proportional to her body, though often enhanced using corsets and push-up bras. She has naturally straight, black hair that reaches halfway down her back, often in a braid or made purposely wavy. Her skin is caramelized and light brown, and she has light brown eyes that are almond-shaped. She also has a tattoo of a butterfly sitting on a four-leaf clover on her right thigh. She often wears short dresses or long shirts and short shorts to show off her figure.

This character has high standards, and you had better agree that they are worth it. They know exactly what they want, and aren’t afraid to tell you. If you get it right, though, you’ll find yourself appreciated and rewarded.

Anamaria grew up in a high middle class home, getting everything she could want as long as she followed the rules and did the things her mother told her. She watched her mother’s every move as she used her wit and charm to get what she wanted from her father, and in return, she gained the skills, she assumed, to succeed in life. Although she doesn’t use sex as a weapon, she doesn’t mind using sex appeal to get what she wants, but always in good taste. Learning from the battles between her less than perfect parents, she gained the knowledge to love only those that could love her fully and completely, keeping only a few friends close. Secretly, she fears being alone.

Brief History: Anamaria grew up in a suburban villa with her mother and father, who expected nothing less than perfection though they were less than so. From a young age, she practiced ballet and other art as well as attending private schools. During the age of ten, her parents, finally agreeing to disagree, divorced. Anamaria stays with her mother and her Dominican family, hence her slightly accented speech.

Extra: Anamaria rarely ever goes by her full first name. She prefers Ana or Mari. She’s a dancer and also does Yoga. She also likes wearing flowers in her hair.

History: Jason was raised by his religious parents, and believed everything they did himself until he realized that he liked boys almost as much as he liked girls. Not wanting to offend his parents, or make them think they did something wrong he is in the closet about it. At school he hangs out with the 'nerd' crowd, he never was one for sports, and computers were always more his speed, he also enjoys the presence of the people. Even though he doesn't care for most of the 'popular people he still gives everyone in the clique a chance, or two, or way more then they deserve.

Extra:At school, and home he is still in the closest, except with people he trusts enough to tell.

Jason is something of a soft heart, trying to help his friends as much as he can. He is loyal, and despite the rumors he is pretty level headed. He is a great listener and a completely hopeless romantic. When he takes a girl on a date it's all about the girl, she gets the special treatment that he was taught to give. This includes opening the door for her, meeting her parents, candles, flowers, the whole nine yards. Even though he has had many dates he has only had three girlfriends and they didn't last very long. However, all of his girlfriends are now his friends, even though he is pretty sure they really don't like him.
History:
Jason's dad is a doctor and his mother...well she's a spender. When he was four his grandmother moved into their house and Jason was basically raised by her. She taught him to be a gentlemen and to respect and listen to women. Which is why all of his dates get the special treatment. When he was six, his mother got pregnant, but the baby was stillborn, sending her into a downward spiral. His father started working more, his mother started drinking more and before he knew it there was talk of divorce. His mother was angry, and wanted everything, but the courts saw her alcohol and drug use as a bad environment for a child and she was denied full custody. Jason doesn't even know where she is these days. Even though he is angry with his mother for her desertion he is grateful that his grandmother is still around, although she's had some health scares lately and he is worried that she won't make it through the year.
Jason's father still works a lot but the two guys have a very easy relationship. Neither holds any grudge for past actions and they get along surprisingly well. Jason's father is also concerned that his mother won't make it much longer and has started to spend more time at home to better keep an eye on her health.

Personality:
Carmen is a spunky girl, and she can talk for hours and very rapidly. She can come across as too much at first but she is actually very caring and loving. Everyone is friends with she cares for like she is family. She always has a pharmacy in her bag, to avoid having to go to the school nurse if there is any kind of emergency. She also has spare clothes in her locker. To call her prepared would be an understatement. She has the attention span of a gnat, and because she has no filter between her brain and her mouth she comes off a a little bit crazy....ok a lot a bit crazy. Even though she talks a lot she hears everything that is said to her and she will tell a friend or foe exactly what she thinks of them.
History:
Carmen was raised by her mother, her father ran off when she was so small she doesn't remember anything about him. This doesn't bother her too much though, she loves her mother, the one who taught her to be so compassionate. Her mother did have to work a lot though, leaving her alone with only herself to talk to, possibly why she talks so much. She found that reading was the best release and she started by reading Star Wars, moving on to Lord of the Rings, Harry potter anything and everything 'nerdy'. If you were wondering, yes she was one of the girls at the premiers of the movies dressed up in the costume of her favorite character. She went as far at one Harry Potter premiere to dye her hair red and perm it, to look more like Hermione Granger. She also has a thing for comic books, her favorite being Batman. She even put the bat symbol on the headlights of her car for a while but she got pulled over and was told to take them off. So instead she put them on the taillights.

Personality: May has a rather optimistic view on life because she believes everything happens for a reason and in the end it will ask turn out alright. She tends to be more introverted but she very cheerful and tries very hard to seem open, even though she is afraid of disclosing personal information because she fears being rejected. Perhaps she tries so hard to be cheerful to over compensate for the she used to be.
May also tends be quite the klutz, and is very good at breaking things, especially electronics. Unfortunately, she is by no means good at fixing them. This is actually how she ended up hanging out with the "nerds". She actually took her laptop into the tech club to see someone there was willing to take a look at it and luckily someone was able to fix it if she payed for the parts. This happened several times so she ended up being roped into the clique and now, for the first time, really enjoys school.

History: May lives with her father and get little sister. Just mother had been in and out of her life for the past 5 years. It was due to her alcohol and drug addictions that she would disappear for days st a time.this lead to her parents divorce. Foolishly, she and her family try forgive her if she seems like she is making an effort. It's a complicated relationship because May often feels anger and hatred towards her mother after she leaves but when she comes back she can't help but break at the sight of her mother's tears. Despite her mother's drug induced insanity she feels she has had a fairly happy life. Her father is a retired police officer so they have plenty of money to live comfortably and they get to spend lots of time to spend together as a family. (Occasionally, "family time" really means Orc killing time because her father really loves his electronics - they are the only things he's willing to spend fairly large amounts of money on.)

Junior high on the other hand is a different story. She went to a Catholic school for all of grade school, and she used to be more an "alternative" person in junior high. She loved dark clothes and she tried so hard to be different from the other girls in her class because she detested them for being so gossipy and mean. This only caused them pick on her. This turned May violent, and while she never really seriously hurt anyone, most of her classmates weren't really interested in testing it. She claimed not too care about what any one else thought because she thought she was being strong. They pretty much just thought she was crazy, especially after finding out what kind of mother she had (word travels fast in small classes like those in Catholic school). Graduating made her realize she had made a mistake, she didn't want to be disliked or hated. Her mission over the summer between junior high and high school was to become a normie (a normal person). With a new wardrobe and a new hair cut, she tried to make a fresh start in high school. Thankfully not many people from her junior high go here and the ones that do don't seem to pay her any mind, though perhaps it's because they just don't recognize her with colorful clothing and short hair. Really, she just hopes they won't tell. May doesn't want anyone to know what she was like in junior high because she really likes the way she now so much more. Regardless, she ended up with the nerds, which works out because really loves video games and computers, even if she does constantly break them.

Extra: May loves keeping busy and one of her favorite things to do is baking. She has a huge soft spot for baked goods and hard candy. One of her favorite things to do is bake things and bring them to school to give out to brighten people's day. Her other hobbies include rollerblading, knitting, and crocheting.

To get the R&J dynamic we need most of the two cliques that hate each other to... well... hate each other.

So does that mean we should do that with NPCs or most of the PCs?

After all if we're ALL in love with each other it sort of ends the conflict

I'm interested. Quick question, though: are we talking actual Romeo and Juliet, with the scattered deaths and the suicides at the end? Or do you mean just the star-crossed lovers concept?
It may be interesting to start out with everyone in opposing cliques, but with lots of secret romances, and then everyone acts like they hate each other so their friends don't realize anything is up. (I hope that made sense.) It could be centered around keeping things secret and trying to have relationships while others/society disapproves. Maybe.

Yeah, the forbidden love and possibly high school cliques against each other. Possibly with the suicide endings but its a little morbid, so a parting of ways or something would probably be a little more upbeat. But multiple Romeo and Juliet type pairings would be cool
