Sterthorpe, a new world discovered by brave pioneers centuries ago. Hidden by the unforgiving Victorian Sea and the raging sands of the deserts; it is a world of magic, where strange creatures dwell and the trees dance to the songs of the wind. Man had not stepped foot on this land before, but they were ever accepting of the strange customs and ancient traditions of the natives. In exchange for food and shelter, man taught these creatures everything - how to hunt, how to run a government and how to enforce law. They formed a society, where a council of creature and man ruled to keep peace throughout the nation. However, it would not last. Man became greedy, they wanted more than they were entitled to. Forests were destroyed to make room for large towns, mountains were carved and shaped for magnificent castles and fortresses. Scholars had even found methods to condense the raw power of the Magic which flowed through the air around them into ancient relics, allowing man to wield the powers of those long before them. Drunk with power, man even began to hunt the creatures they had made peace with for sport. War broke out, and Sterthorpe was thrown into absolute chaos. The trees no longer danced, and the wind wept as the ground beneath them became a battlefield. Many lives were lost during those harsh years, but in the end man emerged victorious.
From the chaos, a scholar by the name of Harold Barrett had sieged a once in a life time opportunity. It was by his mediating, his confidence and his deceptively attractive charm he rallied the nation behind him. He became the King of Sterthorpe and decreed that man and creature may not interfere with the affairs of each other. From his order, the land was split into six houses, each reigning over a particular region of Sterthorpe and working in union to help the nation prosper once more. Harold had three daughters; Esmeralda, Anastasia and Margaret. When Harold passed on, the Kingdom of Sterthorpe was placed into their hands. Margaret, the youngest of the sisters, wished to restore peace between creature and man once more. Anastasia believed they should honor the legacy of their father by keeping the state of the land the same, keeping man and creature separated. Esmeralda however, sought absolute purification. She believed that these strange creatures were a plague upon the land and that eradicating them was the best option. The people rallied behind Margaret, knowing that they would only prosper with the ancient wisdom of the creatures who had inhabited the land before them. Their minds would be forever changed when Adalinda, the White Dragon, attacked the Royal Castle. Even for a land as strange as Sterthorpe, a dragon was a truly rare and powerful creature. They lived where they pleased, and they destroyed whoever tried to stop them. Adalinda had only appeared once before, to fend off man as they tried to excavate the cave she lived in. Although man was able to slay Adalinda in the end, she had slaughtered a handful of innocent people; one of them being Anastasia, the second daughter.
The people demanded retribution, they wanted action. All who were loyal to Margaret began to side with Esmeralda, who twisted their minds into believing all strange creatures of the land were a threat. Margaret was hung for treason against the new Queen, and her vast armies were sent to imprison and kill as many magical creatures as they could. Although the practice of Magic had been banned to regular citizens, the Queen looked past her noblemen and soldiers using it as a means to enforce her new law. The people named her the Queen of Hearts, for the bright red gemstone she wore around her neck; a crystal carved from the heart of Adalinda. Nearly a century has passed, and the seeds of rebellion are about to be sowed.
"One Nation, One Queen, One Legacy"
The Royal Family of Sterthorpe, consisting of Queen Esmeralda and her council, as well as Esmeralda's own extended family. There are many servants who serve House Barrett, and they all live in a magnificent castle located in the bustling village named Queenstown. The Barrett house governs the other five houses of Sterthorpe, constantly keeping in check with them and often holding council meetings. For the sake of the roleplay, at this stage no characters will be allowed to come from House Barrett.
House Crest - Originally an eagle in profile, still and regal, it's eye staring back at you. The motif was chosen for simplicity, as the bronze of the eagle is easy to color with. Purple was the secondary color, used for things like the lining. Both of these were symbols of royalty in the origin lands, making Barret the most traditional house in existance, until recently. Now that the crest has been changed, the main colors are yellow/gold, with blood-red lining. Many things have even been scrapped or remade to bear the new colors and crest. The only things spared were those of emotional or historical importance.
"Carved from the Ice, Hardened in the Cold"
The smallest and most looked down upon house. They reside to the north, in the frozen tundras and ice capped mountains. Out there only the strong survive, and to be a member of House Grey you must pull your own weight or die to the cold. They are in charge of the mines, as well as defending Sterthorpe from the frozen north; a place so desolate and cold that only beasts of pure power are able to live there. Many magical creatures take refuge in House Grey lands. To House Grey, it doesn't matter if you are a man or beast; you will be judged based on your strength. While their customs are barbaric, they depend only on their own wit to survive. This is the main house of the roleplay, where we'd like the majority of characters to come from.
House Crest - The iceberg is shaped in the simplest manner possible, so it's easy as all hell to sew or hammer it into any objects. Even then, it tends to be sloppily done, because who cares, anyway? Just there to shut the other houses up. Someone suggested a pickaxe at some point and got laughed at for about a week. Since all they do is flip off the other houses, the Greys also break the unspoken rules of making the background the secondary color and the motif's color the main, and have reversed it, making them wear white clothes and armor (basically, normal steel), with icy blue lining.
Alicia and Lily
"Mercy is for the weak"
House Ironclaw has had a very strange relationship with House Barrett. House Barrett supplies them with the resources they desire, giving them full reign to do as they please, and in exchange House Ironclaw locks up the most dangerous magical creatures and humans to ever set foot on Sterthorpe. Situated in the mighty Greenblade forest, the Ironclaw dungeons are a vast, underground catacomb holding nearly a thousand different creatures. The members of the house are trained young, their lives already planned out on them. They will carry out the hunting, the executing and the torturing of any creature who threatens Sterthorpe. Ever since Queen Esmeralda's rule, many of the prisoners are actually quite innocent; imprisoned by the new law in an attempt to purify the land.
House Crest - Their official colors are black and grey, grey being their main color and black their lining. Some people have recently been trying to implement fashionable chains onto the uniforms, to various degrees of success.
House Ironclaw is no longer accepting members.
"Knowledge is Power!"
The infamous House Smith, a very large and respected clan of skilled smiths; they supply all the other houses with weapons, armor and other tools. They were the ones who constructed all the mighty fortresses that litter the land, they built the underground catacombs known as the Ironclaw Dungeons. More famous, however, is the prestigious 'Scholars Guild'. The Guild is a place where magic is studied freely, and the members work to create to ways to wield Magic and to implement it into our daily lives. Despite the Queens distaste for magical creatures, she cannot deny how helpful and revolutionary House Smith's discoveries have been; and while they may appear as a bunch of scientific nutjobs to the other houses, they indeed wield knowledge of power far beyond any other beings comprehension. Any magician who wants to be famous or renowned cannot do so without studying under the watchful eye of the Scholars Guild. In recent years, since Queen Esmeralda's takeover, the experiments done by the house have been oppressed and highly regulated by the Queen's Guard.
House Crest - To expand upon it, the three different specialities of House Smith all demand their profession to be the main motif, since they claim it to be the most important one. While there have been attempts to fuse the three suggestions, someone is always quick to complain about it. As an example, there was once a cogwheel and rune, hovering above an anvil, which was quickly shot down, as it "implied the smiths and masons to be below the rest". It's generally a tiring afair for everyone but the Smith house itself. A decided color template has yet to be decided, since they don't have their crest decided.
"Nurturing the Soil"
The gentler of most Houses with dominion over vast lands of sunny fields and meadows full of swaying corn and herds of boar. They are one of the largest houses but they have the smallest army, most being put to work in the fields and barns. They harvest over seventy percent of all the food in the entire Kingdom of Sterthorpe, a cost effective strategy, if also quite vulnerable. House Barton is not as low in the pecking order as House Grey, however they are often the subject of jokes and derisory comments for the higher Houses. Most are forced to work very hard and injuries are common. This has caused a ripple of unrest in their ranks, an easily expoitable mix.
However below their gentle and peaceful exterior, House Barton has a shady side. In secret they have a large Alchemy Guild where men and women research transmutation and other, darker things. In recent years the Queen has discouraged this, shutting down their largest Guild Hall set deep underground. However that does not mean the members of the Guild have stopped their practice, nor forgiven the Queen for her interference.
Even if your character is not human, they must still belong to a house. The majority of magical creatures belong to House Grey, however as the roleplay progresses you will be able to make characters who belong to the other three houses as they are introduced.

♥ I am the GM of this Role play. You will listen to my instructions.
♥ You may not RP in the IC Without a Character Sheet created. Said Character Sheet must be accepted by myself or one of the Co-GM's.
♥ You are able to create more than one character.
♥ No Quick posting. This is a Casual roleplay but I do expect high standards from you. One paragraph is a minimum requirement, NO exceptions. And four lines, does not make a paragraph. It has to at least be 8-12 sentences for it to be considered a paragraph.
♥ You must post at least three times a week, and your posts must help progress the story in some way.
♥ Follow the standard rping rules. Keep IC in the IC Thread and OOC in the OOC Thread. Don't Godmod, Metagame and please, don't use emoticons in your IC Posts (I know a few people that do. Not that I have anything against it, but it just looks unprofessional.)
♥ I don't mind powerful characters, as long as you don't break the above rule when rping that character I'm fine.
♥ Swearing is allowed. Suggesting Whoopi Goldbergual content is okay, but displaying it isn't. Your allowed to say 'I slept with this guy' but please, don't RP you sleeping with the guy. You have to remember that there are young members on this rp site, and we don't want to shatter there innocence with explicit content (Or do we...?)
♥ With regards to human characters. Humans obtain their magic from magical relics such as bracelets, necklaces, weapons, keys or animals. Please keep this in mind when you create your character.
♥ Have fun! Failure to comply is punishable by death...
This is a remake of an old rp that I wasn't able to continue running due to illness. If you're interested, post your characters. Any questions, please pm me or Erranruin.
