What if it was the Supervillains who came first? What if the first superhero didn't start his/her career before the world was already overrun by Supervillains? What then? How could a rookie superhero possibly hope to prevail in a world such as that? This is the superhero story told backwards. It’s a story which takes place in a world overrun by Supervillains. Criminal activity is abundant and it’s up to you to find a way to put an end to the chaos.
-------Just Started Arc 3. Always Looking To Recruit.-------
Mauriello stared out his window and took in the view of New Dawn City. The sun would rise soon he knew. “Looks like I won’t be getting any sleep.” He grumbled while attempting to ignore the sobs of the beaten woman at the far corner of his office.
“Hey boss,” came a voice from the com on Mauriello’s desk, “we have him.”
“Please… Just let me go. I didn’t know. I had nothing to do with what he is.” Mauriello frowned. The woman had been saying the same thing for the whole night. It didn't matter what she said at this point. He couldn't let her go now.
“Bring him in.” Mauriello said as he held the com button down with his finger.
“Please…” begged the woman again as Mauriello pulled out his gun and turned off the safety. A few minutes later, his men entered and tossed a bound and gagged man onto the floor. The man was dressed in a costume and wore a mask.
“So you're supposed to be our Superhero, eh?” Mauriello said as he looked over the man head to toe. The woman continued her sobs not daring to look at the bound man she once called her husband. “You know, there’s a reason why Supers don’t go hero.” Mauriello continued as he glanced over at the crying woman. “There’s just too much to lose and so little to gain. Life just ain’t what it’s like in them comic books.”
The costumed man struggled desperately in his bounds as Mauriello casually walked towards his window. It was starting to get brighter. “New Dawn City. This city definitely lives up to its name. This city was the first to enter the industrial age; the first to give birth to the Super Criminal; and more recently, it became the first to give us…” Mauriello turned his head away from the window and fixed his gaze back upon the bound man on the floor “…the superhero.
“Yes this city has plenty of firsts to its name.” Mauriello continued as he casually raised his gun, off to the side and pulled the trigger. There was a loud bang followed by a thump. No more sobbing came from the corner of the room.
Without sparing a glance at the corpse, which now bloodied his floor, Mauriello approached the now raged filled man, still struggling against his bounds. “Today, this city, will have yet another first.” Mauriello lowered his gun to the man’s forehead. “Starting today, New Dawn will be the location of where the world's first superhero died. Today is the day hope dies.”
Mauriello released a bullet into the man’s skull without a second thought and made his way back to the window. “Clean that up and hang them in Farriston Park for all to see.” Mauriello’s men did as they were told and left the office.
“That won’t be the last of them.” Came a voice from the shadows. It was The Patriarch, Mauriello knew. That man’s ability to spy on people was quite troublesome, though not so much as The Watcher’s.
“Course not.” Mauriello replied. “There will be plenty more where he came from. Suppose it was only a matter of time though.” Light began to pour into the window as the sun finally crept up above the horizon.
“You’re not worried?”
Mauriello laughed. “Worried? About a few rookie superheroes? Nah, that’s nothing to be concerned about. In a world like ours, a world full of supervillains, what can some rookie heroes hope to accomplish?”
Mauriello turned away from the window to look into the depths of the office's shadows. There was no one there of course. The Patriarch would never risk coming in person to see Mauriello.
The sun had finally rose above New Dawn City. It was a city of life. A city of beauty. A city… of supervillains.
* * * * *It’s been 15 years since the rift to the spirit realm was opened. Since then nothing has been the same. Originally, The Rift was formed to help scientists understand that which could not be explained. Five years was spent researching how to make it. Another five was spent to create it. Scientists claimed the rift would take mankind to the next level, and to be honest they weren’t wrong. Humanity did take a giant leap forward, but not for the better.
The opening of The Rift released spiritual energy into our world. Most people remained unaffected by the energy; however this was not true for everyone. A rare few obtained great powers once the energy washed over them. Although some initially thought to use this power for good, in the end the temptation to use their powers for personal gain proved too great.
Society as we knew it was rewritten. Those with powers ruled over the weak. The ones without it lived their lives in fear. The world had become a crooked place where justice was only a faint memory…
Welcome to New Dawn City! Home to The Rift and the world’s highest population of Supers. Once a prosperous city standing for all which was free and just, in the Confederate States of America, this city has since gone to rot along with the rest of the world. Since the death of Captain Matter, the world’s first hero, there hasn’t been much hope to go around. However not all is lost, for Captain Matter’s example has acted as inspiration for ones who shall give the world a new tomorrow. It is up to you to save us. It is up to you to give us a new dawn.

About This World
In recent years, Biotech has started to hit the streets. Cell phones and gps are slowly being replaced by chips in your brains and other implants. This means that things like cyborg hands that turn into guns are not unheard of, and viewing the internet and/or a movie through an implanted contact lens is possible. If you wish to make a character that does not have powers, Biotech could be an avenue to venture. However, keep in mind that Biotech can be hacked. Should that happen you may find your character in quite a bind considering the technology is literally a part of you.
Invented by Arthur Bisk, referred to by some as The Businessman (One of the three major powers in New Dawn City), anti-super technology is used for exactly what it sounds like. Although the technology has already been adapted in many ways, it always has the same effect, which is to nullify super powers. So far, the technology has been limited for the government only, thus making it highly desired in the underworld. As such, there have been a few people who have managed to get their hands on anti-super tech, but the number of such people is very low. Some have tried to replicate the technology but with no success. Currently, only Arthur truly knows the science behind it.
Anti-Super tech comes in various forms. There are handcuffs, darts, bullets, vests, helmets, chip implants, liquid injections, and even portable containment fields. The technology seems to work best when it enters the body’s system. As such, implants have proven to be the most effective means of utilizing the technology. The implant gives the user complete protection from superpowers and even gives the user the ability to nullify any Supers he/she comes in contact with. Of course if the chip is implanted into a Super, it will completely nullify his/her powers.
Those with powers are known as Supers. Supers are always absorbing the spiritual energy around them due to rare gene thought to be responsible for the “sixth sense” and other supernatural phenomena. With the opening of The Rift the amount of Spiritual energy, in the world, increased tenfold thus giving those with the gene their powers.
Former non-super humans who have been transformed by the Patriarch's gene splicing superpower. As the name suggest, Hybrids are part human part animal. Their genome can contain genes from two different types of animals at most. All Hybrids have been given some kind of superpower by The Patriarch. Since The Patriarch already has the "Super" gene in his own genome, he makes sure to splice that gene into all of his Hybrids.
The majority of all Hybrids have lost much of their former human intelligence and most can no longer speak the human tongue. They are normally nocturnal and are highly aggressive when left unchecked by The Patriarch. Currently, The Patriarch has hybrids scattered all throughout Oldtown. They are the ones responsible for Oldtown's "monster" sightings, yet despite this, their existence is unknown by most of the general public.
Recent events have revealed to the heroes that Hybrids can be turned human again when they come into contact with Anti-Super (AS) Tech. However the effects from the AS Tech isn't permanent as the hybrids turn back to normal once the AS Tech is removed. The Watcher has mentioned that he suspects that The Patriarch has already made hundreds of hybrids. The Watcher also mentioned his belief that there is a connection between the Hybrids and the Rebirthists who are during The Patriarch's weekly ceremonies.
City’s Division of Power
New Dawn’s Mafia is currently run by a man who goes by the name Mauriello; a man who rose into power shortly after the opening of The Rift. Since then, the Mafia has done pretty well for itself considering no one has the guts to go against all Supers which the mafia employs. They commit typical mafia crimes such as giving “protection” to those who pay a fee, controlling drugs and prostitution, and bribing cops to overlook criminal acts. Although the mafia’s activities occur all over the city, it is widely known that their base operation is in Farriston.
The head of the Mafia, in New Dawn City, likes to play things safe. He's doesn't attack or kill recklessly, and he prefers to avoid making enemies with potential threats. It was a shock when he killed Captain Matter considering Captain Matter’s heroic efforts had been mostly focused on taking out The Cult. However such acts, from the mafia, are not unheard of. Lately, He has been trying to use the Mafia to put an end to Arthur Bisk. He sees Arthur Bisk as a huge threat and fears what he is capable of.
Basic Mafia Hierarchy
Mauriello – Current Mafia Head
Mauriello was never a part of the Mafia until a little over 14 years ago (about 8 or so months after the appearance of the Rift). He appeared out of nowhere and killing most of the mafia’s prior crime lords. The deaths lead to mass confusion which Mauriello took advantage of in order to become the leader of the Mafia. It took a year to assert his control and since then he’s been leading the Mafia from his penthouse in the Vista.
The Farrovontti Family - Oversees Newtown’s criminal activity
The Farrovonti Family was with Mauriello from the start. Originally a mediocre family within the mafia, they saw Mauriello’s appearance as an opportunity to make it to the big leagues. As such they played a major role in helping Mauriello piece together the Mafia amidst the confusion that Mauriello’s actions caused. As a reward they were put in charge of Newtown’s criminal operation. This typically involves dealing with the businesses who owe their funding and success to the Mafia. Other things that The Farrovonti family is in charge of includes securing Biotech and other various forms of technology and finding supers willing to work for Mauriello before the AS police identifies them.
The Farrovonti family has a reputation of being very loyal to Mauriello. However since Bisk’s rise to power, business has not been going so well for the Farrovonti Family. Bisk has bought out the majority of the Mafia controlled businesses. As a result The Farrovonti family has allegiance has begun to falter and they have begun to question whether Mauriello is fit for the job.
The Chevolis Family – Oversees Farriston’s criminal activity
Originally, the Chevolis Family was a minor family who was mostly in charge of coordinating with the corrupt cops within Farriston’s police force. In fact, a good portion of their family members were corrupt cops in high ranking positions. Things changed though when Mauriello appeared and offered them a position of power. Now, the Chevolis Family oversees all of the criminal activities that takes place in Farriston. And although they still have the police force in the palm of their hands, the majority of their “hard earned” cash comes from the several gambling facilities located across Farriston. This has made their family one of the wealthier and more stuck up families within the Mafia.
The Chevolis Family employs several loan sharks to track down and threaten people with debts. Many of these loan sharks tend to be lowly supers.
The Salvieown Family – Oversees Oldtown’s criminal activity
Although still a well-respected family within the Mafia, The Salvieowns position has lowered since Mauriello’s rise to power. After the deaths of the previous mafia heads, the Salvieowns immediately tried to seize control of the confusion in an attempt to become the new leading family of the mafia. For the longest time, they had nearly half of the mafia following them and were Mauriello’s top competition as head family of the Mafia. As a result The Salvieowns nearly went to war with Mauriello, but everything changed the moment Mauriello had their daughter, who had just turned six, kidnapped. In response, The Salvieowns reluctantly put their feud aside in return for their daughter’s safety.
Mauriello accepted the Salvieowns back into the mafia but kept their daughter as insurance. Ever since, they have been grudgingly serving Mauriello as overseers of Oldtown’s criminal activity. They take charge of things such as drug and weapon trafficking, prostitution and providing “protection” to small time businesses and communities. The Salvieowns also are in-charge of keeping the uneasy peace between The Cult and the mafia. They provide The Cult with various supplies in exchange for conducting business in Oldtown without any “mishaps”.
The Salvieowns still hold a deep hatred for Mauriello and would turn on him the first chance they got. Although they do still miss their daughter, their daughter no longer remembers her original parents as Mauriello raised her as his own. As such they no longer consider her to be a part of the Salvieown family.
The Elite – Mauriello’s hand-picked group of Supers.
Mauriello formed The Elite shortly after his rise to power. The Elite are a chosen few who officially are in charge of serving, escorting and protecting Mauriello. Behind closed doors The Elite are actually the ones Mauriello goes to when he needs “special” jobs to be performed. Such jobs typically includes kidnapping, theft, recon, making someone disappears and making it look like someone had an “accident”. The Elite are picked based on loyalty and skill. However traitors are not unheard of in The Elite. After all, when push comes to shove, they are just hired guns.
The Cult was formed by a man, known as The Patriarch, soon after the creation of The Rift. The Cult preaches a religion called Rebirthism. They claim The Rift is the gateway to the spirit world and God himself, and that those with powers are God’s children. The Cult gives protection to its followers who bring weekly gifts to The Patriarch.
The Cult’s territory resides predominately in Oldtown. Once a week a ritual, The Rebirth, is performed around the old Sky Labs facility, which is home to The Rift. There, randomly selected worshippers are given a chance become closer with God. Those selected enter the facility are never seen again. Higher ranked Cult members, who are involved in the ritual, claim the chosen followers given a new life and transformed into angels. It is said these angels protect The Cult’s members from non-believers. Ever since these rituals have begun, there have been numerous reports of “monster” sightings in Oldtown.
Origin of Rebirthism
Back when the rift was just formed and the people had just received their powers, acts of violence and crime was at an all-time high. The weak and poor had no way to defend themselves from the supers brought about by The Rift. With nowhere to turn many of them prayed for salvation and a way to protect their selves from these so called super humans. Amid the anarchy, one small family’s prays for salvation was answered.
The Patriarch came to this family, offered them the chance to live their life without fear of the supers. The family agreed and offered their oldest son to The Patriarch, who left with the boy a moment later. That night, the boy returned home with new found powers, claiming that all the Patriarch did was give the boy a single drop of the Patriarch’s blood to drink. The blood changed him. It made him stronger. The boy was now on an equal standing with other supers. It was as if it he was reborn anew!
From then on the family viewed the Patriarch as their savior. Word spread. More people sought out The Patriarch, hoping that they too would be given power from this man of miracles. Before long, they began to worship him. He was the answer to the people’s prays. He was the one who would guide them through this new age of supers.
The Patriarch taught his people that The Rift, and the powers caused by it, were the work of God. As such those with such powers were children of God. He let it known that powers are a test of will power and restraint. Those who abused their powers and stray from God’s teachings would be punished while those who walked God’s path were to be rewarded.
The Patriarch’s following quickly grew so overwhelming that he stopped seeing people requesting to be given power. Rather The Patriarch began a ritual where he would gather everyone in front of the old Sky Labs building. From then on, every week he would pick a select few to be “reborn” with the grace of God’s power. And that marked the beginning of the religion of Rebirthism.
Basic Hierarchy of The Cult
The Patriarch – The Cult’s messiah
The Patriarch leads The Cult as the people’s messiah. He leads from within the abandoned Sky Labs facility and he rarely ever leaves it. As such, few can ever claim to have spoken with him personally. Many Rebirthist consider The Patriarch’s word as being the word of God.
The Divine – The Patriarch’s Confidants
The Divine are a group of supers who are closely involved with The Patriarch’s plans and activities. Some are religious. Some pretend to be religious. Whatever the case, The Divine have a position of high authority, as such whatever they say goes. As far as the people know, The Divine help The Patriarch rule The Cult by dictating The Patriarch’s will in place of The Patriarch. What the people don’t know, is that The Patriarch also uses the Divine for more questionable activities such as negotiating with the Mafia and exacting punishment on the people whom displease The Patriarch. The Divine all have a tattoo of a shining hand somewhere on their body.
God’s Children – The Patriarch’s Enforcers
All supers that join The Cult start here. God’s Children performs tasks that are too tedious for those above them. Such tasks include protecting The Patriarch, enforcing The Divine’s commands and dealing with people who break the Rebirthist’s religious code. God’s Children wear a badge, of a shining hand, on their clothes.
Preachers – The Priests of Rebirthism
The Cult’s preachers are uninvolved in the more darker happening’s that The Cult is involved in. Also, none of them are supers. Rather, the preacher’s only job is to spread the teachings of Rebirthism.
Out of all of New Dawn’s factions, Arthur Bisk, referred by some as The Businessman, is the most legit in the eyes of the government. Nobody knows where his money came from, but it is known that he obtained it soon after the creation of The Rift. Since then, The Businessman has bought all of Newtown and has set up his own cooperation called Bisk Tech, which is the only company to manufacture Anti-Super Tech.
Currently conducting a campaign to be mayor, Bisk promotes himself to the public as being highly Anti-Super. Since his rise to power, he has created Newtown’s Anti-Super Police and has constructed an Anti-Super jail, where experiments are performed on the prisoners. With his Anti-Super Police, Bisk has managed to imprison nearly all of the criminal Supers that reside in Newtown. He has even secretly pushed into action a plan which will imprison all Supers whether they are criminals or not. As such, Newtown is practically clean of Supers and Farriston is beginning to get hit hard. Oldtown, however, has remained relatively untouched due to the The Cult’s influence on the people.
August 8th, 2020. 6:00 AM
- The latest polls show Bisk's popularity at an all time high.
- Reports claim that monster sightings in Oldtown have recently quadrupled.
- The public believes the monster sightings to be the work of Supers.
- The Watcher can control certain full body biotechies. He used one to infiltrate the Anti-Super Jail and start a prison break.
- The prison caught fire during the jail break. A good portion of it got destroyed.
- A group of Supers, who were wrongfully imprisoned, managed to escape the confines of the prison.
- The escaped Supers were picked up unexpectedly by another one of the Watcher's biotechies.
- The biotechie which the Watcher sent to infiltrate the prison died in the process.
- One of the escaped Supers managed to steal an Anti-Super Vest (AS Vest) from one of the guards.
New Dawn's 6 o'clock new is broadcasting on the television. The show's hosts John Hummer and Melissa Dane are giving the latest news stories about Bisk's popularity among the people and the drop in crime rate due to Bisk's Anti-super police. As the two start discussing a more disturbing story about the monster sightings in Oldtown quadrupling and the first death (a 16 year old girl) caused by one such "monster" sighting, the TV is shut off by a George Harris. The man is one of the Anti-Super Jail's (ASJ) security guards.
George Harris was on his way to work by taxi. A means of travel he didn't usually take. Before receiving his position, George had been completely paralyzed. That was before Bisk came along and offered him a position at the ASJ. Bisk paid for Biotech surgery which would allow George to live his life again. George accepted the offer and since his life had been good that is until the day he used his biotech to open a strange email from an unknown sender. Since then the days had all seemed like blurs to him. Often times he would find himself in strange places not quite sure what he was doing there.
When George's taxi arrives at George's work place, the man briefly ponders to himself just why he is using the taxi when the metro is much cheaper. However his stray thoughts are cut off by some outside thought he received from his master. George obediently obeys his master in hopes of being allowed to continued living his life in complete bliss. For, according to George, there is no better reward than that. It is then reveal that George Harris is currently acting as the Watcher's hands, ears, eyes and mouth.
As George makes his way for the security room to start his day at work, other supers are getting to know each other in the cells of the ASJ. Two supers, Jamie and Jorgen are currently being held in a cell together in the third basement of the ASJ. The two are scheduled for a day of experimentation and due to the jail's Anti-super field (AS Field) they are unable to do anything about it. Down in Solitary Confinement, another super, Maya is also about to be taken for experimentation. The only three supers not about to be experimented on are Daniel Harrison (also in Basment 3) as well as Kyle Neil and Alisha Robberts (both who are unknown supers being held in Holding basement 1).
While the supers are getting to know one another, Marcus Gellotti (a boxer), steps into a cab which just so happens to driven by a Biotechie named Zack (another of the watchers "Pawns"). The previous night, Marcus had lost a major match and because of that a mobster wants him dead. In exchange for protection, The Watcher asks him to help break the imprisoned Supers out of prison. Marcus agrees. The two then head for a nearby metro station which is currently under construction.
Back at the ASJ, George had already made his way to the security room of the prison. There, the Watcher had him kill his fellow employee. Afterwards George inserted a usb into the prison's security system which allowed the Watcher to "merge" with the system remotely. The Watcher went through the security system and began disabling specific AS fields, but not before triggering the alarm which began locking The Watcher out of the system. One of the places which had it's AS field removed was in Basement 1 (Holding). There Alisha took no time using her power to take all of the electricity from the Jail and by doing so ended up short circuiting everything. This also triggered the Building's backup generator to turn on, but with all the circuits dead, that only lead to a fire and the chaos which followed.
Alisha's actions had caused the building to catch on fire and everyone was trying to find a way to escape. Before the whole fire began, Maya was freed from Solitary by The Watcher. After stealing a card key from one of the guards, Maya went about freeing all the nearby prisoners and picking off the remaining guards with the prisoners help. With everyone's combined help, they were able to make their way to the staircase in an attempt to flee.
Meanwhile, back on the surface, The commissioner of the ASP, Dan Williams, went about setting up a perimeter around the prison and activated a portable AS-field around the prison grounds. While in the process of doing this, he made a call to Bisk about the situation. After hearing about the prison's failure to perform as expected, Bisk commanded Dan to set off the explosives lining the walls of the prison. Fortunately, The Watcher managed to disarm the majority of these explosives. For the most part, only the floors above basement 2 exploded. However, this was not such a great thing for Alisha and Kyle who were currently in Basement 1.
Surviving the explosion, Alisha at first panicked, however she quickly pulled herself together and climbed her way to the surface. Annoyed with the rash action, Kyle ran after her only for them to be spotted by the guards manning the watch towers.
By that point, Marcus, following the watcher's instructions, had made his way into a nearby metro station currently under construction. In disguise, Marcus navigated the tunnels using a map. He arrived at the designated location and there he set off a backpack full with explosives. The explosives blew a hole into the nearby wall and made an opening into the west wing of Basement 3. Many prisoners immediately made note of the new path to freedom, and scrambled their way to the exit. But before most of them escaped, a group of guards had managed to escape to safety first. Now inside the metro station, the guards set off an ambush and killed any prisoner who attempted to escape.
Back on the surface, the media had arrived on the scene after learning about the commotion. Because of the media, the Commissioner realized that it would be best to not kill Alisha and Kyle for the moment (His orders were to kill all the supers). Instead he planned to capture them and kill them behind closed doors. The majority of people may be against supers, but he needed the ASP to continue looking like the heroes. Killing in front of the media could damage their reputation.
So while the commissioner planned to take the two supers captive, The Watcher was busy monitoring the situation from a variety of wireless devices and mainly from the media's helicopter hovering above the scene. As he monitored the situation, he formulated a plan to save the two supers using another super who goes by Blink (a teleporter). Blink had spent the previous night on the run from the ASP, who raided his home. With The Watcher's help, Blink manage to evade the authorities and save his skin. In return for assisting Blink, The Watcher asked for Blink to assist him in rescuing Alisha and Kyle. Forced to chose between evading the ASP on his own or to continue receiving The Watcher's assistance, Blink grudgingly agreed.
Back inside the prison, Maya, Jamie and Jorgen had all met during the chaos and worked together to escape the prison through the new exit in the wall. They worked together to beat up the guards at the ambush point and finally made their way to the safety of the metro station. At this point, they had all managed to bond somewhat and decided the safest move forward was to disguise themselves in the downed guards uniforms. Unknown to them, the SWAT team was well on their way to the metro station due to the reports of explosions and super activity. Unfortunately for Daniel, he got caught up in a mix up and fell behind the other three.
As the new trio made their way to what they hoped to be freedom, The Watcher had Blink riding around the perimeter in the same cab Marcus started in. Blinks job was to place explosives on all the vehicles containing the portable AS-field devices. When all the explosives were placed, Blink detonated the explosives effectively taking out the AS-field. The moment the AS-field was gone, The Watcher took advantage of the confusion. Commanding the cab driver, The Watcher gave Blink a wild ride past the barricade and ASP car and into the prison grounds. Once in, The Watcher picked up Alisha and Kyle and escaped onto the streets with a tail of cops behind him.
At the same time The Watcher was focusing on the cab driver's driving, he also was waiting patiently outside the metro station for the trio of supers to appear. There he monitored the situation as an old lady Biotechie, named Hilda, who drove a bus which apparently is yellow. As she waited, the SWAT team arrived on the scene and was speaking with a guard who left in order to get backup. In mid conversation Jorgen appeared and created a distraction with his Silver entity. Jorgen and the rest planned to hijack Hilda's bus and use it to escape. However, as they edged their way away from the SWAT team, Erica Hearth, a Biotechie and the SWAT team's leader, leaped towards Silver. She knew that her AS chip would negate Silver the moment her body interacted with the entity.
After taking out the Silver a few times Erica noticed the trio heading for the bus. As she attempted to stop them, the Watcher had Zack, the cab driver, make his way towards Erica and ended up smashing the car into her. This ended up severely damaging her biotech enhanced body. Zack and the supers within the cab, drove off and eventually lost their pursuers. The trio, however made it to the bus just in time for Daniel to make it out of the station and join the party. And so Hilda (The Watcher) tells the trio to get back out there and help him. They manage to do so but not without Jamie taking on quite a bit of damage.
While the Trio are helping out Daniel, a lone girl sits in the back of the bus all alone. Katie was a super herself but was raised to hate other supers. Her family knew about her powers, but always told her to keep them a secret which she did until the day an accident happened involving her power. Her dad decided to take the blame for her actions and was sent to the super jail. The Watcher had taken note of all this and offered Katie and her family help in exchange for her service. So with the Watcher's help, Katie had followed Marcus into the under construction metro station and entered the prison after he blew a hole through the wall. There she helped her father escape and was the first one to make it to the bus. She continued to keep to herself though because of her fear of supers.
Jumping back to Zack, the cab driver, and the other group of supers, Zack had ditched his cab and swapped it for another car. With it, the group went to the hospital to pick up one last super called Sidney (a child). The boy was a shape shifter whose parents were currently in a coma. The Watcher didn't normally pick up kids, but Sidney was a special case. The watcher knew full well that Shape Shifters were dangerous in the wrong hands. The last thing they needed was for Bisk to get his hands on Sidney. For if Bisk found a way to turn Shape Shifting into a weapon, then they were all screwed.
And so Sidney joined the group. Alisha and Marcus at this point seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth, and everybody made their way for the abandoned Police HQ in Oldtown. The building which would act as their base of operations.

It's an hour and a half after the epic prison escape. Our heroes are now gathered together at the old Police HQ located in Oldtown. The building had been abandoned for 10 years after a members of the Cult massacred the police force in the area. Since then, the building has been avoided due to the rumors of it being haunted and cursed. For that reason, The Watcher had decided it would be the perfect place to use as the Team’s building of operations.
The team gathered together in the building foyer not really sure what was going on. After a few moments of waiting, (and one or two supers eyeing Hilda and the Cab Driver, Zack, up front), The Watcher decides to greet everyone using hidden speakers within the room. He congratulates everyone on making it this far and begins talking about how the city has gone to ruins. That is when he gets to the reason he guided the team here. He declares that he wants to put an end to New Dawn’s Three Main powers (Bisk, the mafia, and The cult), but to do so he needs their help.
This of course leads into the Q&A section of the meeting. Questions are asking about family, where everyone will live and how they are supposed to escape notice of the AS police after everything that happen. The Watcher answers all the questions. He informs them that they will receive new identities for the time being and that he has been deleting and editing data and videos/news feed which could tip off the authorities. He also informs them that he has an apartment setup just for them and will be sending them money for living expenses.
After answering everyone’s questions, The supers agree to help him (some grudgingly) and the Watcher finishes by telling them there will be a week or two of training. He also mentions the first session would begin that very night. A few supers then go about exploring the building while Jamie heads out to check up on his mom who lives nearby. Unnoticed by everyone else, both of the Watcher’s “tools”, Hilda and Zack, had left the building at this point in time. A seemingly innocent act.
After an hour or so later Jamie returns. His visit had been strange. For one, his mom had not been home. And two, her apartment had been eerily empty. Jamie however did not think much of it and was satisfied with the note he left behind. It is around then that the sun sets and a loud screech is heard throughout the building. See, The Watcher didn't mention there is a reason this building is said to be haunted. A reason the Watcher suspects to date back to The Patriarch’s first Rebirthist ritual. At this time Hilda and Zack are long gone cause the Watcher does not wish to lose a second “tool” today.
Kyle, who had been exploring the building, was the first to get attacked by a blind part human, part bat, part bird of prey creature. The creature, who mentally refers to herself as Kariene (she, it, does not speak), ends up dazing Kyle. She then tastes his blood and gets excited about it being human blood. Her actions end up waking another spider-like hybrid creature who decides to take Kyle for his own meal. Kariene doesn’t mind much though for her bat-like ears then pick up the noise that the other humans are making. Kariene leaves Kyle with the spider hybrid as she leaps into an open vent and begins crawling her way to the foyer.
It is then that Kyle snaps out of his daze and knocks out the spider hybrid before it has the chance to munch on him. Unfortunately, to Kyle’s annoyance, that is when another hybrid appears (a snake-like one) and begins chasing Kyle back to the foyer. A few blows are exchanged, and the snakeguy spits some acid here and there, but in end Kyle makes it back to foyer in one piece. He warns the others about the danger which he unfortunately brought with him.
This little fiasco startled little old Sid, who starts panicking and losing control of his powers, and freaks out Katie. Katie lets out a scream, which attracts a gorilla-like hybrid who barges straight through one of the foyer's doors. Jamie takes the liberty of tossing some flames monkeyboy’s way but it has little effect due to the thing’s thick hide. So Kyle then steps into the fray and absorbs the creature’s strength into his body in an attempt to slow it down.
Up above the scene of the commotion, Kariene quietly sits in the ventilation unable to see what is going on. She uses her power, to phase through solid objects (yes hybrids have powers), to position her head through the ceiling and into the room. After clicking her tongue a few times, using her echolocation to view her surroundings, she decides there are too many people there to her liking. Kariene then continues through the vents until she comes across Blink/Louis, who is taking some time to himself in a lone office. Clicking her tongue excitedly, Kariene phases through the ceiling and takes a lunge towards Louis.
Back in the foyer, all manner of chaos occurs. Katie is still freaking out while unintentionally attacking Gorillaman with her powers. Kyle gets KO’ed by the Gorillaman. Jorgen decides to go tango with the snake using his Silver as snakeboy’s wrestle buddy. Maya sees that and decides she wants a piece of the action. She takes that moment to hop on Snakeboy in an attempt to inject her poisons into it. Of course that doesn’t work and only results in Snakeboy freeing himself from Silver while dragging Maya down into the holding cell room within the building.
As all this is going on, Dorian, a new character, is silently watching from the shadows. Dorian was sent here, by the Watcher, to simply observe. He had worked for the Watcher before, but this time was different. This time the Watcher wanted to try to pique Dorian’s curiosity in this mission. And so Dorian watched, with an earpiece & mic to communicate with the Watcher, until Gorillaman KO’d Kyle and took off with Katie. Dorian took that moment to make an appearance and pursue the Gorillaman. During the chase, Katie got KO’d and Gorillaman began to duke it out with Dorian. The fight didn’t last long though for despite the Watcher’s wishes to keep the Hybrid alive for study, Dorian killed it by freezing it and then using fire to shatter the hybrid into a million pieces.
In the meantime, Louis and Kariene had been exchanging a few blows before Louis took off and accidentally stumbled into the holding cell room where he found Snakeboy and Maya in a cell with more snakes. He didn’t have long to take the scene in though for at that moment Kariene phased through the wall and decided to attack him again. Fed up with the hybrid, Louis KO’d it with a series of teleports and blows to the head. At that point Jorgen had reappeared with Silver and had managed to use Silver to lock Snakeboy into one of the cells. This did not stop snakeboy however as his power was to spit acid. So Snakeboy escaped from the cell and was about to flee only to also be KO’d by Louis.
It was around then that the Watcher had Zack reappear in the holding cell room with a gun. Zack shot and killed Kariene since her power made it impossible to contain her. He also had Hilda Kill the spider hybrid since they never learned what its power was and by rule of thumb, the Watcher sticks with what he knew. The Watcher then had Zack congratulate the three on a job well done and announced this training session was over. Of the four hybrids, Snakeboy was the only one kept alive, for study purposes.
After hearing all this, Maya stormed out, and went back to the foyer annoyed with the Watcher and mad that he killed the hybrids. At this point Dorian returned with a now conscious Katie. Kyle had also regained consciousness and attempted to calm down Sid. It was around then that Kyle started to voicing his doubts about the Watcher and began wondering whether it would be safer to go off on his own way. Despite both Maya and Louis being mad at and distrustful of the Watcher for using them like he did, they responded by saying that they are outlaws now and chances are it would be impossible to make it on their own without The Watcher's help. Jorgen, however, disagreed. The Watcher's actions enraged him. As such he decided to leave the team of heroes for good.
It was then that Hilda reappeared with a bag of first aid supplies. The Watcher then proceeded to explain his/her actions and let them in on a little information about the Watcher. The Watcher explained that he no longer knows who he/she is due to the excess amount of information he/she has taken in as the Watcher. For whatever reason, The watcher can no longer move his/her body or even open his/her eyes. As such The Watcher's only way to interact with the world had been through machines. Of course that all changed when Biotech went public. Now the Watcher can interact with the world by taking over a biotechie's body. He mentioned that Zack and Hilda are two of the three biotechies that he currently has control of. Bottom line, The Watcher admitted to not being a good person. Rather, he is only human. The heroes, however, were still not amused. From now on they wanted The Watcher to be more honest with them. The Watcher agreed.
As the remaining heroes began patching themselves up. The Watcher had a sudden thought about the hybrids. With Maya's permission, The Watcher used Zack to retrieve the Anti Super vest that Maya had taken during the prison break. With the vest he returned to the room with the unconscious hybrid Snakeman in it. The Watcher then had Zack drape the hybrid with the Anti-Super (AS) vest. The effects were immediate. Snakeman instantly turned back into a human. The Watcher then had Zack remove the vest from the man. This of course caused the man to turn back into a hybrid which raised a red flag for the Watcher.
The watcher had hoped that the solution to the hybrids would be as simple as making a cure. That was before The watcher knew the hybrids were created by an ability. An ability that for whatever reason would not completely vanish even after being exposed to AS-tech. To put an end to these hybrids The watcher decided that they would first need to learn more about the ability, the Patriarch and what the Patriarch is planning.
Meanwhile, In Sky labs an new character entered the fray. Void, an insane women with the ability to create portals entered Sky Labs and began killing a path to The Patriarch's office. Void was here because the Patriarch had been sending out men to find and retrieve Void the past couple of months. In the past she had ignored these visitors, but now The Patriarch had intrigued her. As such she decided to pay The Patriarch this unexpected visit.
Upon entering The Patriarch's office she was nearly attack by The Patriarch's doll of a daughter Shade. The Patriarch told her to stand down though before any damage was done. From there Void attacked and threatened Shade and did other various actions which angered The Patriarch. During this, the patriarch did his best to remain cool and began to inform Void of why he sent for her. He explained that he had a plan that will turn the city upside down and he needed her help to see it through. Void didn't exactly say yes or no, but The patriarch took her response as a sort of "I'm interested."
The arc then comes to a close on the verge of midnight at The Vista, located in Farriston. A shadow, Created by Shade, enters Mauriello's office. Using the Shadow The Patriarch speaks with Mauriello. The two talk to one another as if they had known each other for years, however the conversation was far from friendly.
During the conversation, Mauriello constantly refers to The Patriarch as Eric, and the Patriarch refers to Mauriello as Thomas. The two talk about the recent jail break. Mauriello expresses his belief that the Watcher is behind it and exclaims that he concerned about why the Watcher did it. Not really caring, The Patriarch changes to subject to his encounter with Void and offers Mauriello a chance to help The Patriarch see his plan through.
Mauriello coldly declines the offer stating that he has no interest in creating monsters. The Patriarch simply laughs at his response and tells Mauriello that he shouldn't act like he is better than The Patriarch because Mauriello has done things just as bad. Mauriello admits to his sins but explains that they are not gods. Rather they are human beings just like everyone else and should not act Superior to those without powers. He then kindly asks the Patriarch to leave. When the Patriarch refuses, Mauriello eliminates the shadow, which the Patriarch is using as a medium, by using his power to create a blinding light. With the shadow gone. Mauriello goes back to work.
(Story can be picked up on post 177)
Super Powers (if any):
Name: Mauriello (Real name unknown to the public)
Super Powers (if any): Mauriello has the ability to absorb and store away energy within his body. He can release this stored energy in whatever form he deems necessary for the current situation. Mauriello cannot store limitless amounts of energy. Absorbing too much energy will kill him. He also cannot release and absorb energy at the same time.
Shortly after The Rift’s creation, Mauriello became head of New Dawn’s mafia by killing the previous people commanding the mafia. Since his rise to power, Mauriello utilized Farriston as the mafia’s main base of operations, bought most of Farriston’s cops, and constructed The Vista with his own penthouse on the top floor.. Little is known about Mauriello’s background before his rise to power. However, it is clear that before The Rift, Mauriello had nothing to do with the mafia.
It has been hinted that Mauriello has some kind of past connection with The Patriarch. During their conversations together, The Patriarch has been known to call Mauriello by the name of Thomas.
Mauriello is a cautious man who is typically good at being calm and collected. He tends to work from the shadows and rarely commits crimes himself. Despite his profession he usually doesn’t commit acts of violence without good reason. Killing Captain Matter was quite out of character for him, and nobody truly knows why he did it. However those who know him can assume he had his reasons.
Mauriello tries to keep the exact nature of his powers secret. Very few have seen him actually use his powers. Those who have say he has managed to do bizarre things with fire, electricity and is even capable of launching things through the air. In most cases, Mauriello will simply use his gun instead of his powers. He only uses his powers if he deems it necessary.
Name: The Watcher (Real Name Unknown)
Super Powers (if any):
The Watcher's power is widely unknown by most, though some people have a good idea of what it is. From what has been observed, it appears that The Watcher the ability to "merge" with machines and take over the system. The Watcher has been known to apply on a variety of machines including Biotechies. The Watcher mentioned to the heroes that he currently has three full body Biotechies that he controls. So far only two of them are known to the heroes. There is the elderly lady, Hilda, who is always grumpy. Then there is the younger man named Zack.
The Watcher controls his/her Biotechies remotely using the wifi chip in their head. By doing so, The Watcher is able to control the biotechies even while being exposed to Anti-Super tech.
The Watcher is a person shrouded in mystery. Most people have never even heard of The Watcher. Those who have, consider The Watcher to be nothing more than an urban legend.
During Arc 2 or Act I, the Watcher opened up to the heroes and told them a little about his/her past. Truth is not even The Watcher remembers who he or she is due to all the information he/she has taken in. The Watcher can't move his/her body or even open his/her own eyes. That being the case, The Watcher spent the day view the world through various machines and cameras, learning all there is to know and trying to influence what happens in the city indirectly. However this all changed when Biotech went public. Since then, the Watcher has been able to influence the world directly by taking control of Biotechies.
As implied by the name, The Watcher spends a good deal of time spying on people. He/she tips off people whenever it pleases him/her and doesn’t appear to take sides. Nobody truly knows what The Watcher’s motives are.
Name: The Patriarch
Super Powers: The power to splice the genes of the people who drink his blood. He has the ability to store the genes of any animal, he has digested, into his blood stream. He typically collects dna from drinking animal blood but has been know to swallow a bug or two. The ability to grant powers comes from his own gene pool since he already has the super gene. His power has one big catch. The effects of drinking the Patriarch's blood will always remain dormant until the subject is basked in the aura of The Rift. After that condition is achieved, the effects are permanent. Those who have drank The Patriarch's blood gain a sort of connection with his mental state. This allows the Patriarch to exert a certain amount of emotional control over them. The Patriarch's powers do not work on Supers.
It has been revealed that the shadow ability, which The Patriarch has displayed, actually belongs to his daughter. He can speak and see with the shadows by making physical contact with his daughter.
Background: Very little is known in general about The Patriarch before and after he obtained his powers, however all rebirthists know the story of how he became their messiah close to 15 years ago (See "Origin of Rebirthism" under "The Cult" section, in "Division of Power"). It is known though that The Patriarch has a daughter, age 19, who he calls Shade. He likes to keep her close at hand at all times and she never speaks. Little is known about her either except for the fact that she has the obedience and loyalty of a dog. It is rumored among some the Divine that the Patriarch tortured her into servitude.
It has been hinted that The Patriarch has some kind of past connection with Mauriello. During their conversations together, Mauriello has been known to call The Patriarch by the name of Eric.
Personaility: Though he is seen as a religious figure, The Patriarch is not religious at all. In fact, the religion he created is simply a way to gain the following of the people. Rather than being religious The Patriarch is really a man of science who has become obsessed with power and control. He sees supers as the next step forward in evolution. In his mind all other humans are inferior to him. The Patriarch can be heartless and cruel. He tends to care for very little other than his own ambitions.
The Patriarch's Daughter Shade
Name: Louis Halson, "Blink"
Super Powers (if any):
-'Blink': Essentially short range teleportation with the added effect of leaving a faint after-image that remains for a split second afterwords. He cannot 'blink' others with him, only small objects like weapons, plants, etc. Successive uses cost more energy.
-Enhanced Sight: His eyes allow him to spot things at good distances and see more detail than most others.
-Reflex: His enhanced reflexes are almost instinctual, allowing him to quickly react to many actions or situations. Sometimes he may do something without meaning to, like hitting someone when they surprise him.
Background: Louis's family started of in the low class of society, and after his birth they did everything they could to move them up in life. It took ten years for them to have a suitable home in Newtown, settled cozily next to the Newtown Park. So this is where he grew up, average family, average grades, average lifestyle.
It wasn't until his first year of college, on his 19 birthday no less, that he changed. It wasn't sudden, but neither was it subtle, as it took place over the space of two days. He quickly lost his friends and chances at a normal life, but the real tragedy revolved around his parents. As soon as his parents found out, they disowned him and moved out of the city within a week. His parents were highly against supers due to their overall reputation as criminals and they just couldn't take the thought of their only son being one of them.
For the past three years now Blink, as he is now known as once he was certain everyone had forgotten his real name aside from those with official records, has had to resort to common street fight to win money. Even participating in a few underground super arenas for the prize money. No one can figure out where he lives now, though plenty of criminals want to figure it out for various regions.
Personality: His mood and actions differentiate depending on the situation, but for the most part he is withdrawn and unsocial unless someone actually gets him to interact with them. He is particularly nervous, or shy, around those of the opposite sex. As something to pay attention to, he is reluctant to kill.
Description/Image: He has slightly dragon-like qualities that can be seen by the observant. Lightly scaled hands and forearms, slitted eyes, faint signs of scales around his eyes, his ears are somewhat pointed, sharp teeth, and he has horns just starting to grow out the back top part of his head. Other than that he is athletic, has black hair, blue eyes, and stands straight at 5'9". Caucasian and no facial hair. He stands on the balls of his feet at times, which may mean that he hasn't fully transformed yet.
He completely covers his body in a way that could help hide his identity in public by wearing a baseball cap, black tinted goggles, and leather gloves. The rest of his attire consists of boots, t-shirt, and a trench coat, all in black aside from his shirt, which is white.
Name: Dorian Alan Ferrous Fenris Kastileon, "The Winter Knight" and "The Summer Lord"
Super Powers (if any):
He has the ancient Power of Winter and Summer. He uses this power to create Ice Storms, Shields made of Ice, and Projectiles of frozen glass. He can also create fire balls, walls of flame, and weapons made of the hearts of Summer and Winter.
He grew up in an age of technology, where he never seemed to fit in. He never saw eye to eye with his parents, and ran away when he was fifteen, and arrived in New Dawn city. He wandered the city, surviving on the scraps until the incident that created the Super-Heroes. He was one of the few that gained these powers, and instead of using them for the exploitation of the people he would use his powers to rebuild the majesty of Dawn City.
Personality: He is solemn, and thoughtful, but also amicable with his friends, and he is friendly with those he knows.
Name: "Don" Jason Siberia Kastileon "The Nature Master"
Super Powers (if any): Earth Control (He can create small earth-quakes, as well as manipulate the earth and metal to make weapons, or other types of attacks, but he can only shape the earth that is connected to the ground or him within a thirty meter radius.)
Background: He is the elder brother of Dorian, and the leader of their family. The Kastileon Family has been a part of the New Dawn Mob for about 6 years. Jason followed Dorian, in order to keep an eye on him, and eventually came to understand his power, as he was fairly active in his search for his younger brother. He became involved with Mauriello, but is one of the few of the upper echelon of the local Mafia that he openly dis-respects, as he does not trust him. He leads a small but tight-nit family, and each one is highly skilled in several fields, as they were trained by some of the best. They are currently working towards their own goals, and they always know where Dorian is, and for now Jason is keeping his distance.
Personality: He is very strict, and he demands respect from those under him, and respects those above him He is fair, and he does not punish those who do not deserve it, but his punishments are extreme.
*Using the power of the rift she can open doorways connecting one point in space to another. Though she can transport people/items via this they can only cross while she is holding it open, the more people/items the harder it is to keep them from getting ‘lost’ in the rift.
*She can open several small doorways connecting all to one spot inside the rift. This is of personal use if she is fighting/avoiding something or someone. She cannot take people or things through these gateways and it is quite draining.
*She can open mini doorways between her hands which she can then throw outwards like balls, without her to stabilise these doorways they collapse in on themselves exponentially until they literally explode with a force two or three times that of a grenade.
Background: Her name was Alicia Manx an only child of two scientists that worked in the Sky Labs. She had come in as a lab assistant to help analyse the data fetch, carry and make coffee. It wasn’t a bad gig and it would hopefully secure her place in college when she was ready to go, she was on the floor when they began the testing, even then she was certain there was something wrong but what right had she to bring something up to those who had been studying this for years.
When the rift formed chaos ensued, or she assumed it did, all she remembered was a vast nothingness, black and purples, smells like burning hair and nail polish remover and there was a loud and yet silent ‘pop’. Then the world was gone, it had melted away, dissolved into nothing as she was dragged unceremoniously inside the rift itself! It felt like months, years, that she spent suspended in both space and time, held by nothing, growing hungry, thirsty but never dying. The silence was what got to her first, the endless silence, even when she cried out there was nothing, not even an echo of her voice coming back to her. Then it was the hunger and thirst, she spent so long thinking that she went horribly insane.
During this process she made the discovery of her gift, she folded the space of the rift itself and with practise managed to open it so she might emerge back into the real world. By then many years had passed and she had hardly aged a day, time worked differently there it seemed. She returned to her home only to find strangers there to greet her, her friends had all grown or fled with the rise of the Super villains and she was alone. At one point a hospital attempted to pick her up, reports of a deranged woman talking to herself had filtered into their channels, however upon arrival to the address there was nothing, no rubble or timbre, no glass or brick just a flat and empty space where a large warehouse ought to have been.
Rumours circulated quickly about her in the villain community, those who sought her ought were often refused but there were times when the devious could manipulate her for long enough to get what they wanted. Although, eventually, she would always get what she wanted from them, while her goals are intangible and hard to understand one should not assume this deranged drifter doesn’t have them.
Personality: She is insane, it is clear as a summers day that whatever happened to her in her time in the rift something inside of her broke. She can be sweet as a button or wicked as a witch but all the time there is an air of something sinister and creepy around her. While innocent to an extent and easily manipulated one would be wrong to call her dumb or even slow. She though, is a person that at all times does something because they want to, because there is something she desires in the action. Be it simply a cure for boredom or something else is always up for debate.
* Feed: He can not eat in the normal manner any longer and so his only way to gain nutrients is through his mutation. Slits in the palms of his hands that clamp down on the flesh of another sentient being. The mentally hardened find that their capability for coherent thought is destroyed while the physically adept find their limbs heavy and immovable. Either way most victims are left incapacitated after an encounter with Wraith and no one has ever died from it. The effects of such a drain are temporary, lasting up to a day at most in the more resilient folk and several in those less resilient. Other than two marks surrounded by pin point, needle like marks there are no physical signs left behind and these marks clear up within a week.
* Stealth: While he doesn't undergo a physical change his presence is hard to notice (though not impossible) until he is quite close or trips a trap, sensor or reveals himself in some other way.
* Poison Immunity: Due to the odd manner in which he feeds he is immune to virtually all known poisons.
Born Richard Savan he became quite aware of how 'different' he was at a young age, a young and inquisitive mind he often shocked his parents with the way he acted. After visiting a few doctors Richard had learned the technique for surviving in that environment and began to wear a mask. Not one a person could see physically of course but one that kept a distance between his true self and the well adjusted, normal child his parents wished to display. They had thought the therapy had cured their child but instead it had taught him to become more sneaky and cunning with his condition and more apt at knowing how to spot the faux facades of others, including them. He kept a journal as a way of keeping a handle on the real self noting his thoughts and his plans and hiding them away from prying eyes. This became a ritual rather than a hobby and he found it rather difficult to maintain his mask on days he could not read his diary and add to it.
He managed to get through his school life without too many incidents, grading in the top five percent in his classes and while he never took a girlfriend he had both friends and female acquaintances that he would bring over to dinner to further establish his 'normalcy'. He even learned to cook when he moved out and held semi-regular dinner parties in order to continue the pretense of functional adult. However the truth of his condition was evident in his work, Richard Savan was actually Doctor Savan a microbiologist, often his experiments would fail and while his colleagues would suffer greatly he honestly felt no two ways about it. They were all quite oblivious to his true nature of course and took it for a 'British' calm that 'stiff upper lip' stuff they had heard about. It would of course have been impolite to tell them the truth, which was he was a Sociopath and those sorts of things were quite beyond his scope of understanding. It also didn't serve his purpose in the slightest to let anyone in on that little nugget.
While many people subjected to the rift underwent a mental alteration on some level or another, mostly for the worse rather than the better, Richard was wholly unchanged. His mutations neither gave him pride nor revulsion and he had certainly not been relieved of his inability to relate to human emotion. Aside his appearance the only thing that truly changed was the nature of his experiments and where he did them from. Since the accident he has spent his time studying the mutations in DNA cells caused by the Rift, trying to unlock the genetic code to what gives the 'super' their ability.
Personality: To meet him prior the accident one would have call him charming, charismatic, perhaps even gracious. He exudes the manners of an English gentleman. However he has seen the 'accident' as a blessing, stripping him of all need for the mask by making his outer self match his true self. He is cold and calculating, he shares no empathy or sympathy and does not understand love, loss or guilt. In this it makes him seem a fan girls 'wet dream' he is sadistic, cruel and twisted, with enough charisma and charm to let someone think they can save him from himself should he deem it necessary. He knows how intelligent he is and shows no modesty for it finding such falsehoods a waste of his time.
Before the Accident:
Name: Ariel 'Ace' McKenzie.
-First aid training
-Ties to the 'underground'
-MMA cage fighter.
Background: One day her parents didn’t pick her up from school, it was the same day that the news erupted with stories of the rift and the scientific debacle that had happened over in sky labs, oh she was only small then and didn’t’ understand what was happening at all. She couldn’t comprehend why strangers were taking her to a strange home filled with other doe eyed frightened kids and those who looked like they had not seen love in a very long time.
She spent a good part of her youth in that orphanage, undergoing refusal after refusal, at first it was because she was so young she simply didn’t understand that her old parents were gone. So when her ‘new mummy and daddy’ tried to take her home she’d bite, scratch and throw a tantrum, screaming for her real parents to come get her. She quickly got a reputation for ‘violence’ even though she at heart wasn’t, the sisters of the orphanage though didn’t want to take any chances and enrolled her into after school martial arts classes in a hope it would relieve her anger and focus her mind.
When she was old enough to understand she had it explained to her that her mother and father weren’t coming back and was shown a newspaper clipping of the day in question, which, with some persuasion, she was allowed to keep. Her parents had been a victim of a ‘super’ a random occurrence no one knew it was going to happen but the man simply spontaneously combusted a little too close to them and they were incinerated. It was also explained that the Sisters weren’t trying to replace her real mum and dad but find her people who would love her and spoil her like they couldn’t here.
Despite her improved behaviour she still received rejections, too old, too skinny, not artistic enough, not smart enough. The list carried on and it broke her down until one day she stopped caring, she followed some of the older girls and found they worked as escorts for men without the sisters knowing, bringing in money which they hid rather well.
While she couldn’t bring herself to do that she was quickly found out and introduced to the fight pit, while too young to be set up against adults they pitted her against other homeless youngsters and they were surprised at how often she won. When the sisters asked she of course lied about her bruises and they could do little to prove it one way or another.
At sixteen she was forced to leave, with no other family members having come forward and no adopted parents she was forced first into a shelter and then onto the streets. It was a hard time but she quickly found her niche in an underground fighting ring, the Mafia didn’t’ allow them to get very big but it seemed they were at least allowed to run and she quickly became a crowd favourite under the nick name ‘Ace’. The money was good, it put food in her belly, let her get a few tattoo’s and piercings but it wasn’t enough to so much as rent a space on someone’s floor.
That’s when her best friends, someone she’d known since before her parents had died, Melissa, had told her about ‘The Patriarch’ and how he took care of everyone, oh how Melissa begged Ace to follow her and reluctantly Ace did, out of concern for Melissa’s well being and perhaps a little curiosity.
Personality: Ariel appears different to everyone she meets, though all agree that while her life has left her jaded she still has a good heart. She is stubborn and fiercely independent and at times that gets her into trouble. She is protective of her friends to the point that she can come across as a bitch sometimes in her attempts to keep them safe. She is smart and streetwise and whatever she reveals there are usually two more secrets she keeps hidden behind her passive blue eyes. She doesn’t have a lot of respect for authority but doesn’t out right ignore it either, choosing to walk the less trodden path of neutral ground. She has no strong opinions on Supers yet though she knew it was due, in part, to them that she lost her family. She does not, though, condemn every super for the actions that day.
Brief Description: She has natural platinum blonde hair that falls in messy half waves across her shoulders and finishes in 'rat tails' at her shoulder blades. Her tips are dyed about a third of the way up going from a dark blue green to a bright and light emeraldy green to mimic a peacock's feather. Lightly tanned skin contrast's with pale blue eyes giving her a rather 'surfer' look about her. She has hear ears, nose, tongue, navel and helix (left) pierced each sporting small, discrete silver studs or bars. Typically she wears loose fitting shirts, sleeveless where possible and MMA grade trousers with soft trainers or similar shoes.
Name: Alex Leigh
Super Powers (if any): Alex's ability is to twist and warp the world around her, and to a lesser extent, her own body. Through the use of her ability she is capable of shaping objects around her into any manner of construction and manipulating the movements of her projections. The projections she can form can theoretically extend or grow infinitely, but as the source matter begins to run out it is replaced with an odd semi-translucent gray-white substance. Though this is possible in theory, in practice it would be inadvisable as larger projections cause a greater strain on the mind. The ability is greatly influenced by her mental state which if left unchecked can cause her projections to appear in a different form than intended, become unstable or outright fail to form all together. When Alex leaves an effected area or ceases using her ability the twisted structures will return to their natural state and the gray matter will dissolve away. In relation to her body, she is able to expel foreign objects such as a piece of glass from a wound, then allowing her to stretch or warp her skin over a wound creating a sort of stitching with the ability. Finally, unless actively kept suppressed, the ground around her footsteps shows slight distortions due to her ability.
Background: Alex having been very young at the time of the formation of the Rift was a child who grew up with the knowledge that super heroes were in fact real. However the reality of these 'heroes' was far less glamorous than TV, comics and games would have lead children of past generations to believe. The truth was that even as more of the supers began to emerge over the years, very few seemed to be what you would call heroes. Seeing this Alex grew struggling with the fantasy of amazingly gifted heroes versus the reality of those with such gifts merely being average people, many seemingly blinded by their own new found strength.
Even with all the strangeness brewing in the world, the Leigh family was an average one. A mother and father who happily lived together despite the occasional squabble, herself and a younger brother. Even as the city rotted around them her parents struggled to keep things as average as they could for the children. Still it was impossible not to hear about the super powered mischief going around the city which would cause any illusion of glorious heroes to fade from the children's minds as they grew.
Still life would continue as normal until a chance event around two months ago. Around two months ago while returning home shortly after dark Alex would be the victim of a mugging by a group of thugs looking to score some easy money. Alex being stubborn would resist causing the situation to escalate, ending in the girl being shot three times, once in the thigh, once in the arm and once near the ribs, barely missing a vital organ. The thugs would snatch her wallets and run off before the commotion could draw any attention and Alex would attempt to limp her way home only to fall unconscious near Borderline Park. This would be when her abilities would surface, acting on instinct and subconscious the bullets would be pushed from her wounds and her skin would be stitched over the wounds with a mixture of natural matter and the gray matter of her blooming ability.
But it would not stop there, by the time she would come to the park around her would be twisted into a surreal landscape, strange angular constructs which bent in ways which were seemingly impossible and completely foreign from nature flowing smoothly up from the ground. Trees warped into helix patterns, everything in a short vicinity from her showing the same strange gray-white material which would tie her to the event. And the sirens of the anti-super police could already be heard faintly in the distance. Her mind began to race with the situation and all she could think to do was run. But not to her New Town home, doing so would only draw attention to her family. To Old Town, as far from the sirens as her aching limbs could carry her.
On fear and adrenalin she managed to make it to an abandoned warehouse where she would hide out. For two days she would not leave the warehouse, her powers still beyond her control and at the mercy of her frayed nerves. The inside of the warehouse was twisted just as much as the park was but thankfully the range was not long enough to effect the outside. As she gradually gained some control over the ability she had time to think of what to do next. She was sure her family would be worried and she wanted to return, but she was unsure if the incident at the park could be traced back to her or not. So it was decided it was best she simply vanish for the time being lest she cause trouble for her family. And so for the past two months Alex has been living in whatever dark out of the way corners of the Old Town she could find, avoiding the New Town entirely and simply trying to go unnoticed while living off scraps.
More recently, Alex was approached by a man named Zack, an agent of someone calling themselves 'The Watcher'. Using the man as a medium to speak through she was told of the situation, The Watcher was gathering a group of supers to do away with corruption of the city. She was given the information she would need to be brought up to speed and offered food and safety for her assistance. Despite being somewhat reluctant about the offer she would have to agree. After all she would only last so long out on the streets.
Personality: Alex is a fairly friendly young woman with a rather potent stubborn streak to her. Because of this stubborn demeanor she can be a bit aggressive and sometimes unreasonable which could lead her into squabbles or arguments even with simple things. Despite this she is not one to hold a grudge against those she cares for, who she will most often remain rather protective of. However since the rising of her abilities she has become a rather paranoid person with a fairly downtrodden demeanor, though she does still try to keep her head up with jokes about her situation should it come up. This is due to a combination of trying to keep her ability hidden, the unpleasant circumstances of living on the streets and worry about the family she had to leave behind.
Name: Jake Wilson
Super Powers (if any):Ferrokinesis
With his powers being over metal, Jake is able to move and mold metal as he desires. Within a five foot radius around his, he is able to sense any metal and their placement even if he is blindfolded. However, he is not able to change the characteristics of metal. For example, he is unable to make iron as pliable as gold.
Background: Growing up, Jake lived with an average middle class family with both his parents and a younger brother by two years in Newtown. Nothing about the family’s mundane life would make anyone suspect them of having an out of the ordinary life or a life wrapped anything that was Supers related. However, unbeknown to even his parents Jake was one of the select that was affected by the Rift fifteen years prior. Confused and uncertain of what was happening to his, the eight year old Jake kept his powers hidden and only practiced his powers in the confines of his room. This tactic worked out well for Jake as he watched the rise of Bisk and his campaign against Supers, which towards the wayward Supers seemed to be a good idea. However, as neighbors and people from the school that were Supers started to disappear throughout the years, Jake knew that something was off. Knowing that being a Super in Newtown was dangerous, Jake kept his usage of power at a minimum, not wanting to risk anything.
Weeks or even sometimes months would go by with Jake acting powerless and luckily no one caught on when his powers slipped. However that all changed when the Watcher notified him during his senior year of high school and claimed that it knew that he was a Super and wanted his help. It would be a simple mission in stopping a small group of preachers that belonged to the cult before they preached in Borderline Park. However, Jake blatantly declined the offer since he didn’t want to break the fašade he created for himself.
Unbeknown to him at that time, his younger brother went to Borderline Park and heard the message that was being taught. Even at a young age, Seth dreamed of becoming a Super and hearing that he would be able strong with the help of the Patriarch, Seth went to the Sky Labs in hopes that he would be chosen, which turned out great for him when he was chosen on the first week he came. However, he didn’t make it home that night, nor another night since then. Even though Jake hasn’t spoken to the Watcher since he declined joining, he knew he was the link that could have stopped Seth. It’s been five years since his disappearance and he still blames himself for his disappearance.
Personality: Even though Jake can be a chatty person and someone that easily speaks his mind, he has learned to keep private information about him private. Even though he is someone that care for his team and can be nice towards others, he has a sarcastic edge to him. His distaste towards the Watcher is obvious, especially during the beginning as he reluctantly working with the Watcher to find out more about what happened to his younger brother.
Name: Sarah Phoenix
Super Powers (if any): The ability to manipulate the quarks, The smallest form of matter, in matter and energy. Sarah's ability allows for a wide range of skills. She can change the shape of existing objects. She can warp energy into small sized "holograms" which she can wield offensively. She can even change the composition of everyday objects by rearranging the quarks of said object (Example: She can rearrange the quarks in iron to make steel). Despite all it's uses, Sarah's ability has some major weaknesses.
A) Her ability makes her a living power conduit and makes her highly susceptible to backlashes and power surges. In other words, over using her ability will cause her physical harm.
B) Her ability is highly intensive on the brain and requires her to consciously understand what she is doing. The more complex something is, the longer it will take and the more intensive it will be. (Example: Changing the composition of an object, like iron into Steel, would be more complex than simply changing the shape of a stick to make it curved instead of straight.
Sarah's ability is best used after intensive planning. It's great defensively, but not so great offensively.
Background: The ten first years in Sarah's life are not very clear to her. Most memories are suppressed. And she tends to get very shaky and closed up when someone asks about those memories. Clearly something bad happened. However after that the memories are very clear for her. She lived on a farm for a long time. Not with her biological parents but with a very kind and strange family. The couple who owns the farm and a few stragglers that they have taken in and helped. It was a good place and it healed a few wounds in Sarah's heart. It still is a place she likes to revisit at times. When she is free from studies at the University. Which takes up a lot of her time since needs it to control her power.
Personality: Sarah is a lone wolf. She acts tough and wild and impulsive. Though mostly she just wants to be left alone. She is at heart insecure, have really bad self confidence. And she never really dares show her true intentions around others. You could think she is hard to deal with. But that is where you would be wrong. She is like a lost puppy. Bring some candy let her get used to you and suddenly she is your loyal friend as long as you are acting trustworthy. She just don't really know how to trust people. Or be social in a normal and relaxed way.
Name: Emily Armine "Comet"
Super Powers (if any): Aerokinesis – the ability to control air with her mind. She can float and fly by creating a strong updraft to lift her body. She can attack either using wind directly, or using projectiles inside the wind. She also uses her power in negative, to create vacuums by pulling air away from an area. This is often more deadly then her normal wind manipulations. When she releases a vacuum suddenly it creates an incredibly destructive implosion as the air rushes back into the space. By creating a vacuum path where she wants to move and a strong wind pushing her from the other side, she is able to move or physically attack with incredible speed, which also means incredible power. However, because her body is human this strategy is liable to injure herself just as much as her opponent.
Background: She grew up with his parents in Newtown. She loved her parents, even though they fought often. She was a good kid, perfectly normal in every way, if a little bit of an outsider. Her powers manifested quite suddenly at the age of 13, when the building her family lived in exploded. She'd been arguing with her parents when it had happened. She hadn't meant to. She ran away before anyone showed up. Apparently, no one inside the building could have survived the blast. For all intents and purposes, Emily Armine was dead.
Knowing that she couldn't stay in Newtown, she fled to Oldtown. The traumatic way she'd come into his powers scared her away from a life of crime.
Well, she does steal, but only to survive, and only from those she deemed bad people. She "survived" pretty comfortably with her little side-business. Okay, she's a criminal technically. She'll steal anything from anyone she deems corrupt for the right price. She doesn't tell her clients how she get's the goods, and they don't ask.
Unlike many other supers, she doesn't need a disguise to hide her identity. Because her power is invisible and doesn't need to originate from her body, there is no outward sign when she is using her power. She prefers to fight at long range from a good vantage point; preferrably one surrounded by a crowd of people. The target won't be able to tell who is attacking, and won't attack a large group of civilians.
She's lived in Oldtown for the past year, generally keeping her head down. She uses her powers to do good without anyone knowing it. She does things like save falling people, stop robberies (oh the irony), and put out fires anonymously. Usually her involvement is just passed off as good luck. She's remained generally undetected in Oldtwon so far.
Description/Image: She has light blonde hair that goes down to her waist and glacier blue eyes. She usually has a good-natured smile on her face, and she usually wears jeans and a blue shirt.
Despite the advantages of fighting anonymously, she does have a costume she occasionally wears. She does this seemingly stupid act in an attempt to keep hope alive. So long as the people think there is a good hero, they will keep hoping for change. She wears a cloak made of hundreds of strips of blue fabric. When she's flying she looks like a blue meteor, and when she's floating she looks like a jellyfish. Underneath the cloak is white armor, to protect her body from her own recoil. She wears either a Comedy or Tragedy mask to cover her face. If she's wearing the Comedy mask she will fly and attack physically, and if she's wearing the Tragedy mask she will fly and create implosions. These restrictions are self-imposed though, and she is free to violate them whenever it suits her. She wears the Comedy mask over the Tragedy one.
(Just the cloak and mask, not the wearers.)
Personality: She is nice enough, but doesn't become attached to people. She doesn't easily trust others and is wary around men; she has been surrounded by a bad crowd since she fled. She is a pessimist by nature, but does her best to make the situation better. She is skeptical about anything others tell her, and prefers to learn things for herself. But she keeps all of this negative to herself, and projects a happy young girl for the sake of those around her. She keeps her hate and fear bottled up inside. On the inside she is still a little girl though. Just a scared little girl in a very scary world.
Her personality changes when she is wearing one of her masks. When no one can see her face she can be anyone she wants. She can be carefree and happy, as Comedy is. Or she can be cold and calculating, always in control of the situation, bending her rage and sorrow into a weapon, as Tragedy does. Her Comedy persona... is happy. She laughs and makes jokes as she's punching things into oblivion. It's pretty scary to witness. Her Tragedy persona is apathetic. She is calm and efficient. It's even scarier than the Comedy persona because unlike Comedy, Tragedy is often aiming to kill. One direct hit and there won't even be a body left. Both personas put the lives of bystanders above anything else.
Her masked personas are how she copes with her life. She lives in constant danger, afraid of being found, afraid that someone will recognize her. She is sad, both for herself and the world she was born into. She is sad about her parents, whom she never had a chance to mourn, and whom she killed.
5,9 and slender. He wears a blue jacket over his white jumper and armwraps. Baggy black cargo's and black boots for stomping people's heads in. He usually ties his hair in a loose bun most of time due to his fear of it getting pulled out.
Regenerative healing. (Has not mastered, so he doesn't keep wolverine healing, it takes like a couple hours or day depending on injury also a super)
Ernest Rose was a troublesome teenage who loved causing trouble. He was admired for his fighting skills and endurance in fights, though his attitude does not fit the status of hooligan. The young man is calm and silent, he shows respect when it is given to him. However he does have an overconfident side that lurks about in a fight. He loves to fight big groups on his own he claims it "arouses" him. Ernest is not aware of his healing abilities as he still gets bruised from time to time, he just thinks he's endurable. He is currently in prison for murder, due to some gang violence in his town. It was rumoured he took them all out, but killed one or two. He now resides in prison, waiting to be released. Slowly he marks the days inside.
Muay Thai added with abit of street as he is no master of it.

Name: Black Flame (True name TBR)
Super Powers:Black Flame can summon fire that is black. This fire doesn't burn as normal flames do but rather consumes the spiritual energy of the person it touches. Should the flame touch a normal human, their life force will be consumed. If the flames touch a super, the spiritual energy they use for their powers will be consumed and given to Black Flame. If he gets enough energy he can heal himself or turn the flames into black lightning. But only for a short period of time. Also, the moment the flames are no longer touching his victim, their energy will immediately begin to return, though it takes several minutes to return to full strength.
Background: Black Flame was born into a poor family. When he was 16 his parents were killed leaving him and his younger brother, Drake, to the fate of the system. At 18 Flame left the system taking his younger brother with him. Life was hard as they bounced around from place to place, occasionally staying in homeless shelters or holding jobs as garbage patrol. Flame refused to use his powers for fear of being arrested or separated from his little brother.
Then Drake got sick. Flame was 23 at the time. The doctors ran tests and discovered Drake had cancer. But with no money or job there was no way Flame could pay for the treatments that could save Drake's life. Just when he was about to turn to the gangs, a man willing to be Drake's benefactor offered Flame a deal. If Flame worked with him, using his abilities, then the benefactor would pay for all of Drake's treatments. Flame readily agreed, having no idea that his new Employer would force him to do things he would never have thought himself capable of; including fighting against the supers.
Personaility: Flame is quiet and moody. Everything his does is for the sake of his brother. Often he's been forced to go against his morals. He cut himself off from his emotions as much as possible so that the guilt doesn't eat him alive.
Flame's face is often hidden beneath the hood of a black sweatshirt, hiding his identity. The only thing that can be glimpsed, if the light is right, is his piercing sad blue eyes. If you ever catch him with his hood off, he has stark black hair and a handsome face. Though it is darkened with the guilt of all the sins he's committed for the sake of his brother.
Name: Joshua Allen 'The Prophet'
Super Powers (if any): Super power: he can see the future, sometimes seconds later or months, he can do it when he wants. This helps him when fighting. Being able to see what your opponent is about to do is good when your fighting hand to hand combat. But using this ability is taxing on his body. Even with his augments he can still be knocked un-conscious, looking too far into the future can slip him into a comatose like state, even looking into future when fighting can make his vision blurry and black out.
Augments: After an accident he had many things added to his body to suit his line of work. He got new legs and arms, a few brain implants for reaction, his eye's are able to see things through walls (only people and the full length is about the length of a foot ball field).
Background:" I was born in this hell of a city, before the gate opened and turned this city into a nightmare. My mother and father were two people who owned a restaurant. Just a small place, maybe ten to fifteen Tables. I grew up washing tables and dishes for money. We weren't rich but i was a little better off then most children. I was about...I don't even remember anyway i was young when the gate opened. When people started to kill each other with there minds instead of the usual baseball bat or snub nose pistol.
It was fine for a while, but then my power opened up, i was able to see the results of my tests before they happened, i was able to see the turn out of sports games or poker games. I made money...But one day i had a vision it was when I was asleep...When i'm asleep i cant control my visions, my mother and father died at the restaurant, ripped apart by some super with super strength
sure enough, three days later it happens, practically tears the building down. Anyway a few years later i hear of this guy. The patriarch, who gives super powers to people. And by asking around i hear that the guy who attacked my shop got his powers from the same guy. I killed that son of a bitch, Marcus Hied. Felt good too. But it wasn't over.
After a few more years i got married and had a daughter. Some pyro burns my house down. Kills my family my house basically explodes and i end up with these augments. Killed that mother fucker too. Everything seems to tie back to The Patriarch. If i eliminate him everything should be fine...I became a hit man by trade. Trading my service for either information or money. I could never find a solid lead. Someone said once he was in china. I went there nothing i finally traced him back here. I think i have a solid lead...I won't screw this up."
Personaility: Josh is a very cold, Merciless guy towards everyone, he tries to see everyone as expendable. But he can't he mourns when his team mates die, even if he only knew them for a week he still mourns the death of his wife and child at the hands of supers. He tries not to get close to people. But sometimes it's hard not to. Under the hard shell he is a very caring, protective man who needs revenge.
Name: Marcus "The Invincible" Gellotti
Super Powers: Super Intelligence - Marcus has above genius level knowledge on most anything, thanks to the Rift. More often than not, he only uses it for his fights, though it has far more potential and practicality elsewhere. This allows Marcus to predict movements, given his knowledge of the human body and his own boxing experience. It isn't totally accurate, as minds can change faster than blows can be made, but it's usefulness is definitely worthy of note.
Background: Adopted as an infant to the Gellotti family, Marcus was raised in the Mafia. Though, Marcus was never directly in the Mafia, his father just happened to be. Raised rich and prosperous, Marcus got to enjoy the good things in life. His education was minimal, but passed the home school standard and got him into the real world. It didn't last very long, as soon Marcus decided he would rather be a professional boxer. He turned out to be a great heavyweight fighter, and the Mafia soon noticed. Rather than hire him to actually work for them, they were entertained by his fights, and paid him to continue his career. A near perfect record, with Marcus himself only ever having lost by score, has led to Marcus having local fame around New Dawn City, especially in Farriston. When the Rift was opened years ago, Marcus never really noticed his ability. It wasn't until he was twenty five did he notice his intelligence, when he was faced with a physics equation as a joke. Since then, he has bided his time, testing the boundaries of his mind, all the while staying in the ring. Living rich and in the Mafia's good graces, Marcus has kept his ability under wraps, for fear it might lead to something he won't like. He has recently taken an interest in the affairs going on regarding the different factions of New Dawn City, and whether or not he will end up having to take action one way or another. For now, he's satisfied living rich off of boxing.
Personaility: Marcus must be a good actor, for he plays the stereotypical big guy pretty well. He doesn't cover his intelligence with stupidity, but he does keep it secret. For a professional boxer, he's pretty good at keeping calm and assessing things, but he is also very quick to react. The man may be strong, but strong willed, he is not. More recently, Marcus's conscience has been eating at him, but he still keeps it under control. His moral standards are just high enough for him to entertain murderers, but he would never kill a man.
Name: Alisha Roberts AKA THE Electrix

Name: Daniel "The Shadow" Harrison
Super Powers (if any): The ability to draw tendrils from his body. (Like Alex Mercer from Prototype)
Background: He grew up in a poor neighborhood with a poor family, but he as okay. He was a tough kid and he learned a lot in those streets. He moved out as soon as he could to make a good life for himself but he was still poor. He turned to doing odd jobs to keep him afloat. He never really noticed any powers; of course he never tried to use them either. One day he was mugged by one, rather large man. Daniels life was in danger but he had all of his money on him since he ran out and he just got paid. He grabbed the attackers’ throat to try and choke him, yet to both of their surprise, where Daniels hand was suddenly a tendril was. I wrapped its self around the assailants’ throat as the hand was doing earlier. During the surprising turn of events Daniel carried the man to underneath a street light and hung him off of it. Daniel headed home, satisfied that he got one criminal off the streets, maybe changing him. When he got home he thought long and hard on how to use his powers. There were a lot of villains out there nowadays but Daniel knew he shouldn't become one of them. He decided to become a hero among men, as he was brought up knowing how bad men can be and not wanting to become one of them.
Personality: Easy going, light-hearted, Fun loving, can be serious.
Description/Image: 6"0 tall and 162 lbs. He has an average build. He also has short black hair and green eyes. Often wears his jeans, a band shirt and a hoodie. Since he was too poor to afford a costume his costume consists of him putting up a hood and wrapping a bandanna around his mouth. He can look rather threatening in costume, but that appearance quickly fades when he starts cracking one liners.
Name: Jorgen Jonassen, the Silver Specter
Super Powers: Jorgen’s powers manifested in a strange form of telekinesis. Jorgen isn’t quite sure what it is, but he can call forth a being of spiritual energy. It may be a literal spirit or some kind of golem made of spiritual energy, but he can move or summon the being with a thought. He dubbed the being ‘Silver’ based on its coloring, one of the few things he can tell for certain about the thing.
Silver has several impressive qualities. It floats, and can move quickly when able, even carry him, though it can’t match up to free flight in speed or style. Jorgen can make it intangible, but it takes a moment to switch states, and it can’t become tangible while something solid is taking up its space. It has strength to break stone and bone, and moves precisely. It is limited to line of sight: if Jorgen can’t see something clearly, it won’t work as intended. With practice, he could theoretically move it at a great distance while watching with a camera feed or binoculars, but there are other problems too. Jorgen prefers to act as if it isn’t actually there, pretending that the results of Silver’s attacks are mental powers or supernatural phenomena.
Jorgen himself has no super traits otherwise. He is fit, but can’t really fight well. He’s a decent runner though.
Background: Born and raised in New Dawn City, Jorgen is local stock. He was mostly raised in Oldtown, where most everything is run down. He was in the lower class, his father, Lars, was a factory worker and loud drunk, and his mother, Karina, a fortune teller. He mostly spent his days tagging along with his brother, Peter, who was the trouble maker, often playing pranks, never quite knowing when he was going too far. Though Jorgen was young, the appearance of the Rift had its consequences on the family and the whole city. Lars became outspoken against it and the Supers, vocally supporting Arthur Bisk. Karina began to tune her fortune telling to the sound of the Rift, attracting a different kind of audience. Peter seemed to become distant though, often staying at some friend’s house.
Jorgen grew up following in his brother’s footsteps a bit, being a bit of a trouble maker, but learning from his brother’s mistakes and never going too far, being more well liked. He had no real ambition, not sure what he was going to do after school, except maybe college, like most everyone. However, as he hit Middle School, something odd happened to him. His powers manifested, and he initially believed himself to be haunted by a specter. He couldn’t tell anyone though, and began to become reclusive. When his brother dropped out of High School and left the family suddenly, they began to pay more attention to Jorgen, noting that Peter had become more reclusive around Middle School too. Not able to explain the reason, Jorgen wondered if something similar happened to his brother. He began to spend his free time trying to find him, wanting to ask to be sure.
It was a few years, but when he was a Junior, he finally Peter randomly on the streets. The brothers began to catch up, going to eat while they’d met, though Peter’s words made it clear to Jorgen that he wouldn’t be coming back. Peter told his younger brother where he had been: worshiping. He had joined The Cult, and began telling Jorgen about the faith; that God was in the world through the Rift, and that worshippers would be rewarded, ascended to angels. Jorgen was skeptic, but Peter insisted that going to one weekly Ritual couldn’t hurt. Jorgen agreed, but only on the condition that they talk in private. Moving to another location, Jorgen explained his awakened powers. Peter was shocked and amazed, saying he was one of God’s children. Jorgen realized that this meant Peter hadn’t gotten powers either, and likely left to worship. Jorgen asked how he got by and he said that he stole, offering his things to the Cult for protection. Jorgen knew his brother had broken into his home, but now he knew why. They eventually separated, late at night from the long conversation, and they agreed to meet on the day of the next ritual. Jorgen returned home worried and confused.
A few days later, Jorgen met up with Peter at the same restaurant they’d eaten at earlier, and headed off to the old Sky Labs facility. There was quite a crowd, and after Peter left his offering, they went to the ritual proper, where Peter seemed to know many of the people there. Eventually, the Ritual began, and the participants were selected. Peter was chosen, and went gladly, amazed and excited that he’d finally been chosen. He went into the building, and when the crowd dispersed, only Jorgen and a few other stragglers remained. Jorgen returned home late, and weeks later, realized he would never seen his brother again.
With graduation, Jorgen was lost and confused. He applied to several local colleges, getting accepted into a less than prestigious one, taking some loans to manage. He got a part time job at a grocery store to start to cover the cost. However, around the same time, he began to follow the news, as Captain Matter entered the scene, and was getting fame. Jorgen considered himself a bit of a fan, wondering why more Supers hadn’t done it already. His battles against The Cult may have also earned him a few points in Jorgen’s book. The student was even thinking about putting his powers to good use and putting on a cape himself, but that was mostly fantasy he entertained. Then, it suddenly happened. Captain Matter was dead, killed by the Mafia. Jorgen didn’t know what to think anymore. He was a Super himself, and that made him feel even worse about himself. He was watching the city go to hell and wasn’t lifting a finger to stop it. He quit his job, getting himself some cloth and dye, with plans. Big plans.
Personality: Out of costume, Jorgen is the shy sort. He keeps to himself, but is a nice guy, going out of the way if someone needs a little help, just wanting to be a good citizen. He keeps a few close friends and doesn’t neglect family, having a good memory for dates. He’s the giving sort as well. He has the occasional streak of chronic lying, however, usually around touchy subjects like his brother or anything he feels even remotely guilty about. He can also be judgmental of others. In costume, the mask gives him a little anonymity, making him act out a little. Straight from his mother’s fortune telling chambers, he brings a touch of theatrics to his crime fighting. At first, he did it to have a little fun, but the fear he could inspire actually made it useful.
Silver has no personality to speak of, however. It does not appear to think or feel, just act on Jorgen’s thoughts.
Description/Image: Jorgen is tall and a little scrawny. He has short, light brown hair and the occasional stubble, which will never grow into a presentable amount of facial hair. His eyes are hazel, and his nose and chin pointed a bit. He likes to wear jeans and shirts, a tan jacket, and a simple necklace that used to belong to his brother. His costume is just as simple as his regular wear. Meant to imitate ghosts, he wears a baggy dark gray mask completely covering his head made of a fabric that he can see out of but is hard to see into. His top is a similar gray, with sleeves extending past his gloved hands. His pants are baggy, and end above dyed shoes. There are chains coming out of the arm sleeves, sown in, which rattle when he shakes them, though he can hold them quietly if need be. The costume is simple and unimpressive, made with the budget expected of a college student. He prefers to work at night, since it is hard to notice the poor quality.
Silver does not look dissimilar to Jorgen’s costume. The largest difference is its long, black hair, which seems to ignore gravity as much as the rest of Silver does, floating about as it moves. It’s partly transparent, having no features on its face except some kind of lump where its nose should be. It has two large fists, but his legs don’t end in feet, trailing into nothingness. They are long though. It is about seven feet tall and quite broad too. It glows a silver color, and is partially transparent, making it hard to see in bright conditions. When intangible, it becomes even more transparent, only visible in dark conditions. It is normally tucked away and intangible inside Jorgen.
Name:Kyle Neil "The Mime"
Super Powers (if any):His gene allows him to temporarily incorporate the characteristics he comes in contact with(Though in most cases he has to want to take on the powers). The only down side to this that if he takes on powers from another Super and he has not used them before he has little control over them. Though if he takes characteristics from an animal the ability to use them is automatically "programmed" into him and he can adapt to the changes easily. (I.E. If he was in the Marvel Universe and took the powers from Loki he would have NO ability to control that amount of power as it would be completely alien to him). He can also only take powers from one being at a time, he can't take the powers from two heroes/villians/animals at the same time. If he wants to take another power he must first "purge" the other from his body. He also can't hold power through immense physical/mental trauma and any powers (from a super) and uses it drains him physically and he tires quickly.
Background:There isn't much behind his story.
When he first developed his powers he pretty much kept them to himself and stayed out of trouble, as he had seen what had happened to the other Supers who had decided to play hero as they were told. He only got involved over a period of time and initially on the wrong side of things. He was a street urchin and as such he got the idea that he had to do anything to survive. For a while he became a small time criminal and he stuck to that role and that is when he became the Mime.
Technically he never truly became a Hero though when he got taken to the next level of criminal activity his "boss" told him to kill. He refused and they turned on him. He fought back and knocked them out before the police arrived and he was arrested accused of being a Hero by the courts and then sent to prison. Since then he hasn't done much of anything, residing to the life he has been given.
Personaility:Joyous, Cheeky, can be selfish.
The Makeup is a Mask so it doesn't take too long to put on.
I know he is a celebrity but it is the best one that doesn't make him look like some faggot.
Name: Maya Morrows, "Chimera"
Age: Twenty One
Super Power: Like Maya's alias would suggest, due to her ability her body has adapted the traits of several animals from around the globe. Unfortunately she can't 'un-adapt' these structures, so it is extraordinarily obvious that she's a super; it's plain as day she's not a regular human being. She's not sure what determines which traits she adapts or why, but to date she's developed:
-Pit organs like a viper, which allow her to detect infrared thermal radiation, effectively 'seeing' radiant heat at wavelengths between 5 and 30 μm.
-Ampullae of Lorenzini like a shark, which allow her to detect electrical fields around her, and are sensitive enough to pick up nearby muscular contractions.
-Trinocular eyes like the mantis shrimp, which can see into the ultraviolet spectrum, pick up more detail, and can detect the full spectrum of polarized light.
-Skin like an octopus, which can change texture and color to camouflage her in a variety of environments.
-Valerian respiration like a salamander, which allows her to breath through her skin either in air or underwater.
-Venom ducts like a spitting cobra, which allow her to spray a temporarily blinding venom at adversaries.
-Climbing setae like a gecko, which let her climb vertical or inverted surfaces with ease.
-Retractable fingertip stingers, with venom like the tarantula hawk that has been described as an "…immediate, excruciating pain that simply shuts down one's ability to do anything, except, perhaps, scream. Mental discipline simply does not work in these situations." Its effects last for about three minutes after injection. She can produce a number of other snake and spider venoms, but almost all of these would be fatal, and she is unwilling to kill.
-Poisonous excretions similar to those of Dart Frogs, the highly diluted batrachotoxin causes numbness and weakness in skeletal muscles after skin-to-skin contact.
-Aside from these specific features, she also has generally enhanced physical performance. Her reaction times are on par with a house fly (15-20 times faster than a normal human), she's as agile as a gibbon, and as strong as an adult gorilla.
Background: Maya was born to a middle class family, and was raised in Newtown since she was about four years old. Her father, David, worked at a chemical processing plant; and her mother, Naomi, worked as a daycare manager. Even though she was an only child, most of her childhood was spent surrounded by a swarm of other children both younger and older than her. With the business of the Rift opening and the arrival of Supers, her family tried more often than not to act as if it had nothing to do with their lives. As Mr. Bisk's technology advanced and as he employed the Anti-Super police, it was almost easy for them to convince themselves that it really did have nothing to do with them.
Maya's abilities manifested in her late adolescence, when she was in her senior year of high school. It was abrupt and disruptive, and pretty much severed any connections she had to friends and family. It didn't help matters that the first adaptation she gained was her skin, which turned an inhuman yellow shade and took on a rubbery texture like a porpoise. She was immediately and unmistakably marked as a Super. With the way most of the public views Supers, it took no time at all for her to realize it would be impossible to keep going about her life as normal. All of her friends distanced themselves from her, and a lot of people were outright scared of her. Her family tried to be supportive, but they were very awkward about the whole situation and didn't really know how to handle it.
Eventually the oppressive atmosphere got to her and she left home. She settled in Old Town, where it seemed to her that the view of Supers was at least a little better. It seemed that fewer people shied away or avoided her there, though she would later find out that this was mainly due to the presence of the Cult. As a Super who was immediately recognizable, Cult members would often reach out to her in the street and ask for blessings and the like. It was nice not to be hated or feared, but on the other hand being liked by the Cult posed problems of its own. Eventually their attention made her uncomfortable, and frankly she felt unsafe. Again fleeing from her short-lived home, Maya now lives in the waters of the New Dawn River.
Personality: Although her inclination is to see the best in people, recent events have allayed her naivety and left her a bit more cautious. She views villainous Supers as the cause of her ills, as most people wouldn't have such a terrible image of Supers if it weren't for the criminal activities of a few bad people. Among friends she's a bright, cheerful person who talks a little too much. She has a tendency to becoming hyperactive when it isn't appropriate, and being lazy when she should be doing work; though both of these traits are less noticeable in serious situations.
Description: Maya stands at a height of 5'8", weighing in at 178 lbs, though her figure seems a bit too slim for these numbers. She'd argue that she's "compact", which might be true considering her ability. Her adaptations have progressed to the point that she now usually forgoes clothing, however if she needs to blend in she wears a lemon-colored burqa.
Name: Jamie Aurell, “Inferno”
Super Powers (if any): Create and control fire. Fire that is under his control cannot hurt him, but his powers are unstable. If he tries to use too much of his abilities at once, he easily loses control and becomes a danger to both himself and everything around him.
Background: Born and raised in New Dawn City, near Borderline Park. He grew up with a single mother, his father having left them when he was very small. His mother, determined to make it on her own, worked a full time job plus what extra she could find. Therefor Jamie was often left alone or looked after by his mothers friends. In school he was restless and unfocused, often getting into fights with other students. He dropped out of high school when he was 16, and spent his time hanging out with friends and generally getting into trouble. When his powers started to show shortly after that he couldn't have been more excited. He was reckless and didn't care who knew about his abilities, and had soon unknowingly gained attention from the wrong kind of people. His wake up call came when he bit off more than he could swallow and accidentally set fire to his apartment. Several people got injured, property got destroyed, and he was left with second to third degree burns on his left shoulder and arm and an one-way ticket to prison.
Personality: It has been said that Jamie isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but what he lacks in intelligence he makes up for in enthusiasm. He has a lot of energy, but doesn't really know how to spend it in a productive way. Because even if he's a bit of a troublemaker, he has his heart in the right place and wants to do good.
Description/Image: Red hair and blue eyes with a face full of freckles. Burn scars on his left shoulder, arm and hand. Prefers wearing loose fitting clothes like hoodies and jeans.
Name: Mona "The Corpse Flower" Desmond
Super powers: When she kills someone, she can create a zombie-like replica of that person by using their head as a medium. She collects the heads in a room. The remains do not decay while effected by her powers. The heads are vital for the creation and continued existence of the zombie, but she doesn't have to bring them with her to use the zombie.
The zombies are like batteries, and she's the charger. The longer time she spends on making them, the longer time they will run without needing to be re-charged. She has to be in contact with their original head to re-charge them. The zombies can't die as long as the head - the one chopped off from their original body - still remains intact. If the zombie is completely destroyed, Mona can still make a new one with the same appearance using the head, if she still has it. They will run for double the time she spends charging them. She can put them in a sort of stand-by mode when she doesn't use them, to make them last longer.
Mona has no problem killing whoever she thinks deserves it, but she is very picky with who she decides to make a zombie of. Therefor she only keeps about six or seven at a time. She only takes a new head if one is destroyed.
A zombie created from the head of a super does not get their powers.
Background: As a child, her parents knew something was wrong with their daughter. It started with things such as finding her ripping wings of flies, then it escalated when she was seven and killed the neighbours cat. When asked why she did it, she simply replied 'Because I wanted to'. Concerned for their little girl, and being highly religious themselves, they sent her to a school run by preachers on her thirteenth birthday. When she returned five years later, they thought her a changed person. She was calm, devout and showed none of the violent tendencies she'd been prone to as a child. That was until she crept into their room one night and told them they where finally going to be sent to heaven and meet their beloved Father, and then buried an ax in her father's head and a knife in her mother's stomach and watched as she slowly bled out. She kept the head of her mother, which is her oldest zombie.
Personality: Mona is probably one of the nicest people you are ever going to meet. At first glance, you think she has a very pleasant personality, with her gentle smile and sweet words, and when you get to know her better, you discover your first impression was right. She's simply a pleasant person to be around.
The problem with Mona is that she has no moral compass what so ever, and her complete lack of compassion make a dangerous combination with her desire to let everyone go to heaven by personally making sure of it.
Her favourite hobby is taking care of her heads. She can spend hours in her room brushing their hair, applying makeup or just admiring them.
She adores the Patriarch in an obsessive way, and believes him to be the saviour who'll bring salvation and peace on earth.
Description: Light brown hair reaching down to her shoulders with bangs framing her face. Likes to dress in cute dresses or skirts, but won't object to put on a pair of jeans if she feels like it. Expertly manicured nails. Always has a kind smile on her face.
Name: Katie “Psyche” Rogers
Super Powers: Telekinesis – she possesses the ability to move things with her mind. But since she doesn’t use her powers very much, there are a lot of restrictions due to lack of practice. The size of an object doesn’t matter much, but the heavier it is the more difficult it will be to move, and her “limit” is at around 130 lbs. But at that point it will still take a lot of effort and she won’t be able to move the object around, just make it float for about 20 seconds. If an object is lighter she can hold it up for a much longer time and make it move around at different speeds, and she can control several objects at once. She has unusually quick reflexes, so she can stop falling or moving objects in mid-air, depending on their speed. With some trouble she can also move living creatures, but only small ones like birds or cats. Living things are much more difficult for some reason, but if it’s dead or unconscious it works just like a motionless object.
Despite her limits, Katie has found that she can surpass them in emergencies when she has to act on instinct. It’s only happened once, when she and her father were about to get run over by a truck and Katie stopped it even though it was traveling at full speed, and later she figured that it must have been some sort of weird adrenaline rush. However, using her powers above her limits like this makes her pass out right away, and except for that one time she’s never had to do it.
Like mentioned she doesn’t use her powers much, but with the right amount of training she would be able to control much heavier objects as well as humans, and she could learn how to levitate and even stop bullets. Though Katie herself is unaware of this potential.
Apart from her telekinesis she’s pretty fit, but doesn’t really know how to fight.
Background: Katie, an only child, was born and raised in Newtown, just a few blocks from the Anti-Super Jail where her father used to work as a guard. Her powers began manifesting when she hit puberty, and her parents were immediately very worried. Despite both of them being pro-Bisk, they still accepted Katie the way she was but told her that she must keep her powers an absolute secret, both for her father’s reputation and for her own safety. Therefore she and her parents are the only ones who know that she is a Super, and except for the incident with the truck she has never used her powers outside of her parents’ apartment, where she currently lives. But when she’s home alone she might sometimes test her abilities in secret. She has a complicated relationship with her powers – on one hand she hates them and just wants to be normal, but on the other hand she recognizes that her abilities are a part of her, and there is a small voice in the back of her head that wants to be able to develop and use them freely. When she was younger she even used to play with the idea of becoming a hero and came up with the alter ego “Psyche”, but nowadays she thinks of it as nothing but a childish phase. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with other Supers, and because of her father’s job and media’s influence she sees most of them as criminals and freaks.
She recently graduated from high school and works a part-time job at a grocery store near her home, trying to lead a life that is as normal and modest as possible. However, everything fell apart just a few months ago, when she had to stop an oncoming truck in order to save herself and her father. By doing this she caused a big traffic accident in which a few people were killed, and the police quickly understood that there must be a Super involved. In order to protect his daughter, Katie’s father took the blame and was sent to prison, and since then Katie and her mother have been struggling to get by without him.
Personality: As a Super living so close to the Anti-Super Jail, Katie has become very careful and rather introverted. She’s a bit of a loner and hasn’t had any close friends since she became a teenager, in fear that someone would find out about her powers. She’s nice towards most people but is rather arrogant when it comes to Supers – in order to deal with her inner conflicts, she’s started viewing herself as being better than them. She likes to think that since she has managed to blend in and become a somewhat normal person, she can separate herself from other Supers.
Description: Caucasian, olive green eyes and dark brown, rather short hair. She’s average height, perhaps a bit on the shorter side, has a slim figure and isn't especially curvy. She prefers to dress in simple jeans and t-shirts with a leather jacket.
Name: Sidney “Mirror” Shipwright
Super powers: Shape shifter. Can transform into anything with a pulse – so mostly humans and animals, no mythical creatures. Since it works sort of like a shell, he can transform to any age, but inside he will remain his own.
He has just discovered his powers and can therefore not do much, but he learns fast.
So far, the only thing he’s good at is mimicking voices.
Shifting doesn’t hurt, but it’s exhausting.
Background: Sid has lived in Newtown all his life, together with his family of eight members, where he is the oddball – Parents and five older siblings, all of them extremely against anything that is super. Wrong and weird, should all be extinct in their opinion. Even though his family’s strong hatred against the supers, Sid have always found them fascinating. He has gone to a school nearby Borderline Park, and just graduated from fourth grade. He lived a pretty normal life, up until strange things suddenly happened to him. He would look at birds, imagining how it would be to fly - and once he got home he’d find small feathers inside of his t-shirt. He would think of things and his body would respond with small changes. Eye and hair colour, nails, skin…
After a while, Sid knew something was certainly up with him. At first he refused to acknowledge what he possessed, but as it got more and more out of control, he gave up. He had to be able to tame it. And so, he decided to try to practice his abilities secretly. God forbid if anyone found out. His parents, brothers and sisters… He’s scared and conflicted. He believes as fast as they find out, they’ll throw him out. But would he really mind?
Personality: Sid is quiet and rather easy to push around, much because of his older siblings who isn’t exactly nice to him. He’s more of a follower than a leader, if put in command he’d freak out and be completely useless. He keeps to himself and his fantasies, and despite being raised by his narrow minded family, he dreams of becoming something great in the future, “a doctor researching super-genes or an explorer maybe, I haven’t decided”.
He’s used to a plain life, the most exciting thing he’s done was to go with his family to a zoo once. So he is curious in his nature, but despite that, he’s very easily scared. Main instinct is to hide.
Description/Image: Caucasian, light brown wavy hair and dark blue eyes. Rather average bodysize, around 4’’3 and likes to dress in light clothes, such as shorts and t-shirts.
