Age(apparent ): Nineteen
History: Rei previously lived in the Rukon district, it was a fairly simple living, caring for the unfortunate children who crossed onto the soul society until they found families that would take them in, keeping books for small taverns in need of help, and even fighting off a few thugs. It was when he went to help get rid of trouble in Kusajishi that he changed. There were vicious gangs that murdered entire families; the stray animals the children kept, the defenseless children, the brutalized women, and the brave men that fought to protect their loved ones. Seeing the brutality of it all combined with the twisted smiled of the gang leaders caused something inside of him to crack, just slightly. He wanted to run, to walk away and forget the atrocities he had just witnessed, but the men were not allowing it. Instead the offered him two options; join them or die. He cravenly agreed to join them and within months he had refused to actually kill any innocent people but was forced to learn secrets and destroy people from the inside out. It was hard enough to lie to the residence and say that he was there to help them at first but, after years of doing so just to learn the darkest secrets they held and exploiting them, he began to go farther, pushing some of the weaker willed to the brink of insanity with a sick sense of glee that sickened him.
This went on for several years, until he finally couldn't take the guilt eating at him anymore and fled from them. They tried to follow himbut over the years he had memorized every back alley exit, street corner and shortcut there was in the town. A few months after heading back to the Rukon, he was accepted into the Shin'ō academy, where he studied relentlessly, trying desperately to ignore the aching void of the years of messing with people heads. He was proficient in the common and intermediate level Kido techniques before the end of his first year, specifically Hadō. During his second year, he began to crave the control he had over people again, so in order to keep the urges at bay, he studied Psychology and learner how to burrow his way into the darkest recesses of the mind. In the middle of his third year he had perfectly memorized all recorded Hadō techniques and began the process of creating his own. After graduation, he created a single Hadō, it damaged the mind allowing the User to exploit the deepest fears or desires of the person it is used on. Since then he has begun devoting his time to developing the perfect Hadō, one that could absorb the reiatsu of the enemy instead of the User.
Personality: Rei is eccentric man, dreaming big and striving to achieve those goals. He is not one to look a gift horse in the mouth nor is he a man who refrains from speaking his mind, even if it gets him in trouble. Most describe him as being playful in regards to mannerism but, many, specifically those in his squad know that when he sets his eye on a goal he will stop at nothing to achieve it. His temper is one of his biggest flaws however, Rei has been known to use snark snarky comebacks and psychological trickery in order to get ahead of those who have merely annoyed him. When truly enraged, he has been seen brutally toying with the minds of others, thoroughly enjoying the unstable mental state he could cause. Although, his actions may seem childish and brash sometimes, he is a dependable man with the stubbornness of a mule and the determination of a man who could do no wrong.
Spirit Form: A white humpback whale with intricate light blue markings that fade to black.
Human Spirit form:
First Form: Standard Katanain shape, the handguard is meant to look like the top or bottom view of a whale, with the pointed head and long, flowing pectoral fins. The hilt wrap is light blue and white, the tassel is a whistle in case there is ever an emergency.
The shikai is...big. The blades face opposite directions, and the thing is meant to be wielded in the same manner as a staff...hence the dark guards that will keep the edges from cutting Rei in half. The middle of each large blade has a section missing, replaced with tightly-strung metal strings. When the strings are strummed they will start to vibrate, after which Rei will whirl the zanpakutou around in slow, dance-like movements, creating a sort of "song" that will hypnotize any who hear it (he is immune, naturally). This hypnosis stays in effect as long as the song is playing and will hold for a few seconds after the sounds stop (and they must stop is Rei wishes to actually attack). If he's fast enough, he can get in a hit before his enemy snaps to.
When strummed and spun fast, in somewhat erratic movements, the zanpakutou will emit very loud, high-pitched sounds. These can range from incredibly annoying to damaging, capable of causing permanent hearing loss if he's really serious (and really fast). The aftereffects to this are similar to any loud sound- ringing in the ears, temporary loss of hearing or dulling of hearing, or in major cases disrupted balance, Prolonged exposure can rupture eardrums. The time the effects last after this "song" vary depending on the enemy, but are generally much longer than the first.
Deaf enemies wouldn't be affected much, but the sound waves created by the high-pitched assault would cause intense vibrations that, in turn, would cause extreme dizziness.
Bankai: Aside from previously stated abilities, as well as amending one, Rei's speed and strength increase. He is now also able to attack while the strings of Mikotowane vibrate, allowing him to disrupt his opponent's grip of their weapon (if contact with said weapon is made while the strings are vibrating) or Disrupt bodily functions such as balance, sight, or even educing nausea and unconsciousness if all eight strings are vibrating at the same time, an attack he likes to call Lucifer's song, (a rare occurrence seeing as he would have to strum both harps, leaving him open for attack). However, each time he attacks while the strings are vibrating, one of the strings evaporates, excluding Lucifer's song where all the strings evaporate. However, the strings can regenerate if he focuses his Reiatsu into Mikotowane.
