This is an RP that I am restarting, so there are a few characters already confirmed, although that said, there is plenty of room for new players to make factions of their choice. The IC will be restarted, only a few things may be carried over (such as, players not wanting to rewrite all the agreements they may have made etc) if there is sufficient interest, new OOC, IC and faction/character sheet threads will be started.
-Zack Mortarian, Nosferatu arms dealer. The City is in Turmoil
Not since the Camerilla recaptured Los Angeles in decades past has Los Angeles seen such conflict. Tensions had been rising for years, powder keg after powder keg. The anarchs still clung to their freedoms, protesting against the oppression of the Kindred Elders. Sabbat attacks had increased and the Kuei-jin were moving in, having secured a foothold in China Town. While this was hardly a pleasant environment, it certainly harmed business from my point of view, it was stable, the vampire camps locked in cold war, the human magi stumbling through scant arcane tomes, the werewolves skirting the outside of the city, running from the light. This all changed when ‘they’ arrived. A new born with a slain sire, saved by that anarch Nines, much more powerful than anyone that young had a right to be. Then there was that mess with the Sarcophagus, LaCroix’s key to eternal power, well, him and every other power-hungry kindred across the city. You would have thought business might have kicked up at this point, all these kindred suddenly needing blood and guns, ready for this final conflict, but it wasn’t so. A few minor skirmishes between the Anarchs and Camerilla around my haunts but an end to my little gold rush before it could even begin. Thankfully for me, this civil war lasted exactly one evening.
This newbie, a kindred for little over a month worked out they were being manipulated by all corners. LaCroix wanted an expendable agent, the Kuei-jin wanted someone to end the Cainites from within, the Anarchs, to spark a revolt. In this one evening they survived a werewolf attack, killed the Mistress of the Kuei-jinn, then disappeared into the Camerilla tower. No one exactly knows what went down in those lofty heights, but some time later the explosion lit up the Los Angeles skyline brighter than any festival. The top quarter was blown across the city, human casualties were high, the official story is another terrorist attack. Something else that’s knocked business, law enforcement is cracking down on even a sniff of guns. More importantly, LaCroix, the young blood, the sarcophagus, all missing, blow to dust for all I care. But nothing stinks like a vacuum, and the Camerilla was shoved right on the backfoot, the Prince gone and the symbol of their authority dashed. That’s not to say the Anarchs got off scot free, during the same night the Camerilla launched an attack on their holdings, while this assault crumbled with news of the attack on the tower, they did enough damage to make sure the Anarchs were in a position to immediately retaliate and reclaim Los Angeles.
Nearly a month has passed since that night and things are tense. The Camerilla is still technically the most powerful of the vampire groups, although currently leaderless, they still control most of the city and would be a strong position were their enemies not banging on the gates. The Anarchs have been rebuilding in their stronghold of Hollywood, while the Kuei-jin are back in China town. Not much has been heard on the Sabbat front for a while, but that’s bad news, things always go quiet before a major strike, idiots think their being subtle. Equally worrying are the humans and werewolves. The human magi are becoming braver, more ambitious. I don’t suspect they entertain hopes of throwing out the vampires, but certainly they’re looking for a more equal footing. Werewolves hate our kind, and their animalistic tendencies must have sensed our defences weakening and they’re starting to push into the city limits, if only on extended hunting runs. Basically, all hell is set to break loose, and this time I doubt it will be ended in one evening of fireworks. But at least this time, people will be buying my guns.
Look at the shiny narrative. Basically, for those who don’t know, this is an RP based on the setting created by the Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines RPG. This is a setting of a world similar to our own, but one where the supernatural is real and the world is that much nastier a place. Global warming is worse, the companies are more heartless, the poverty more horrific and nuclear stockpiles larger. Humanity is by and large controlled by the Vampires. Our unknown undead overlords are organised into many different clans, who are then organised into umbrella factions. The Camerilla is the largest of these, a strict hierarchy with the eldest vampires on top. Each Camerilla city is ruled by a Prince, the most powerful vampire, often the oldest. The Camerilla believes in the Masquerade, a system put in place to make humanity believe that vampires and other supernatural creatures could not possibly exist. They prefer the soft touch, and have done so for thousands of years. The Sabbat on the other hand, the second largest, and not by much, organisation of vampires, believes in the total subjugation of humanity. They see themselves as the pinnacle of evolution and unlike the Camerilla, depend on pack mentality and a merit based ranking system. Ironically they are forced to accept a slightly less strict version of the Masquerade, simply because currently they do not have the strength to rule humanity directly, so now they focus on winning the Vampire Civil War, for once they have united all the Kindred of Cain, then they shall rule the world. The Anarchs are rebels who reject the hierarchy of the Camerilla but generally support the Masquerade. While the elders of the Camerilla spread the view of the anarchs as nihilistic, in reality they simply support a more even system. While generally weaker globally than the Camerilla and Sabbat, they have a strong presence in Los Angeles, due to it previously being a Anarch holding. The Kuei-jin are the Oriental version of vampires, although they are a distinct species, feeding off chi rather than blood. They have prevented Kindred (The name for cainite vampires) from expanding into Eastern Asia and are now seeking to expand into Kindred territory.
More details on the setting can be found on this page (ignore new world of darkness stuff) and the pages that link from it.
In the RP, players will control factions, although not in the usual nation/faction rp sense. A player will create several characters from a faction and control them, the action being seen through their eyes. While the player will have NPC control of the other members of the faction, they will not be point-of-view (POV) characters in the most part, and other players are generally welcome to create characters within factions other than the one they are controlling, of course the owner of said faction’s leaders will be involved in the reviewing process of any such characters.
Some Vampire Myth Busting
As Vampires will make up the majority of factions, I’ve decided to throw down some basic facts aside from linking wiki pages to help people.
Sunlight destroys vampires: True, vampires cannot go out during the day, any sunlight touching their skin will cause it to steam and seconds later burst into flame, eventually turning them into a pile of ash. Even a Vampire that is completely covered outside will feel incredibly ill and overheat, although they will not die. Inside a ground level building or higher, a vampire will be perfectly functional if slightly uncomfortably hot. Most hide and slumber within insulated 'beds' during the day, a coffin being the archetypal example, although very few are so stereotypical. Vampires do not dream, and can enter this slumber 'mode' at will.
Religious Icons repulse vampires: False, religious icons have no power over the undead, genuine faith can deter them, but only temporarily and they can fight through it, that and very little genuine belief remains in the world of darkness, due to the corrupt nature of most religious bodies. Even those who often believe themselves to be faithful will turn out not to be, it crumbling in the face of true adversity.
Garlic/Other herb or remedy repulses vampires: False, just don't even bother.
Vampires are always pale/Cannot Eat/Cannot visibly breathe etc: False-ish. Generally Vampires do not exhibit signs of life, however some do. It is quite common for a vampire to possess an oddity of some kind. Some vampires have a very lively skin colour, others retain their sense of taste and so do eat (although digestion doesn't really work, they can purge their system). Some will possess a heart beat or be able to breathe, although it is not necessary for their survival. In fact, only about half to three quarters of vampires will exhibit none of these traits.
All Vampires are the same: False, while vampires are all vaguely humanoid, the curse manifests very differently in the different 'clans' granting vampires different abilities and sometimes appearances. The Nosferatu for instance are warped horribly by their curse into ugly freaks, while the nefarious Tzimisce alter their appearance deliberately with magic, twisting their appearance horribly. Details on the clans can be found as part of this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masquerade_society
You can kill a Vampire by stabbing them in the heart: Technically false, they are merely paralyzed until the object is removed.
All Vampires are necromancers: False, only those who dabble in that form of magic, notably the Giovanni. Generally more humans are necromancers than vampires.
Faction Sigil: (Optional)
Basic Faction Description
(repeat below sheet for all major player characters within faction)
Appearance: (Picture and/or words are fine)
(Thank you to my lovely Game of Thrones rp'ers for the sheet layout, it, and the system, are basically the same)
1. The GM (Is me) and any Co-Gms that I decide to bring in, are the final authority, even science and magic bends to our will. If I (we) make a final decision that is it.
2. Canon characters from the game are allowed as player characters, although preferably with some modification, particularly considering the recent conflict and all.
3. All sheets should include the phrase: And So Gehenna Comes.
4. No power gaming/min maxing/metagaming/generally being a dick.
5. All posts should at least be a few paragraphs, I'm a fan of long posts. Rather than seperate disjointed posts to show characters interacting, collab posts are much better in my opinion.
6. Non-Vampire factions such as human mages and hunters, Kuei-Jin and werewolves are allowed, although vampire factions should be the majority.
7. While not really a rule, feel free to ask any questions about the setting, I'm rather clued in, and equally this is the setting how I see it.
8. See rule 1
I myself will be playing a Malcavian Vampire faction controlling Santa Monica and some surrounding places, along with possibly a few Nosferatu buddies, we shall see.
