The perfect little character- some like them, most hate them.
But, what if our dear little character was such of a Mary Sue that she wasn't a Mary Sue a all? It was an idea that struck me one day, whilst reading an article about Mary Sues.
Say, the character was such of an angel, who followed rules, and got everything perfect, one day had a choice to make between saving a friend and following the rules? Ultimately, being a Mary Sue, she chooses to follow the rules, and somehow that friend is saved in the process.
Now take the feelings of the friend- would they feel happy? Grateful? Relieved? No! The friend had just witnessed an act that clearly implies that our character doesn't seem to care for her/him much, for the character has chosen to follow a set of rules rather than save him/her. Uh oh, there's a friendship lost.
What do you think?
