This is a interest check on a story of mine that I have been working on for a while, it is based off the Chrono Trigger game and shares elements from it, here's the story.
What's it like to live free.... free of choices, obligations, free of limits. To free one self from the shackles of fate that bind us to the lives destined by life. What does it feel like to be able to choose who you want to be, what you want to do... instead of being chosen for you. This is the world everyone lives in every day... as fate is bound by laws unforeseen by mankind, we are destined to live our lives the way it was "meant" to be. You cannot stray from the path, you cannot break free from the binds, you cannot seize the opportunity if fate demands you to miss it. To be conscious of the fact that we can't be who we want... what if there was a way out of it but required great sacrifice, to lose everything to be able to gain everything... to break free from everything... at the cost of whatever it takes... then ask yourself a question... can you fight for it with everything you got...
On a world known as Andal the lives of everyone is given to them by fate, and although there is the illusion of free will your life is ultimately governed by fate. People's fates are known through Seers, sort of like gypsy or fortune tellers, that can tell your life to you exactly as it will happen. In a world where there is strife and battles and luck of your fate governs all it is a bleak world. A world where technology and magic came hand in hand, and then separated, where monsters use to roam before technology governed and man ruled. But then it all comes crashing down when a monster from the bends of time and space comes and begins destroying the world, where fate has been thrown away to the end of the world and no amount of technology will stop it, but there is still hope. Heroes of this time, of the Present Day, escape through the aid of a Lost Time, people trying to warn them with the technology of Time Travel. These heroes escape through time and arrive in different time periods of Andal to try and collect the lost history, magic, technology, etc. of the world to battle the monster and save everyone from death. And to begin their journey they discover objects known as Artifacts of Fate, that can stop the shackles of fate on them and free them to do what they wish, along with powers that no man has ever seen. It is their goal to go travel to specific points in time, where these Artifacts of Fate are poignant and collect them to free the world from the monster.
Artifacts of Fate
Artifacts of Fate are objects that appear like real life objects, such as a sword, or ruby, a book, etc. but contain special properties to them. It has been observed that the major properties that all Artifacts contain are these.
i. Are Indestructible
ii. Free People From Fate
iii. Have a Magical Effect Linked To The Object's Anatomy
iv. Is Needed In Order To Time Travel
an example of an Artifact of Fate would be a Katana that is indestructible, free's people from fate, never loses it's edge, and is one of the sharpest blades there is.
If you have an idea for an Artifact you can tell me and if I green light it you can use it.
One of the big mechanics in the story is time travel, with time travel the character is able to go to different points in Andal's History and explore their to their leisure, but can only be done with a Artifact of Fate and the technology made to time travel. If you time travel without a Artifact of Fate then fate itself will reject you from the timeline and you will cease to exist. The device is like a round clock the size of a palm that has a digital clock and a old clock inside, the digital sets the time for the time to jump, while the old keeps track of real time. To initiate it the user must jump from a height to account for any change in ground movement over time, from then the device will create a bubble around the user and bend time around him to the point the user requested and then he will descend safely on the ground.
There are at least 4 times planned right now, but there can be more. Each time is different and have different elements to it, the times that I have so far are...
Present: This is right before the monster would arrive and destroy the world, in this time technology rules as it is a near futuristic world with tall buildings, cyber-punk like setting and flying bikes/cars, etc. Magic is not around any more and is a dead art so no one will likely be able to use magic at this time. The world has joined and is not in strife. Technologically advanced guns are the primary weapon in this time.
Past: This is like a present day time, where technology is more grounded, but rules, guns are used and magic is extremely rare case, but can exist. Quite a few wars rage as countries fight for dominance over each other.
Far Past: A sort of feudal/medieval fantasy time where magic exists and is used by many people. Swords and bows and such are the primary use of weapons in this time along with magic if possible. Many creatures roam the world including dragons and mythical beings and wars are fight over land and kingdoms.
Lost Time: In order to be part of this time you need to be green lit by me. This is a time lost many many years ago, where magic and technology come hand in hand. It is a fantasy world where man ruled and experimented with technology and magic, but is a dystopian and wars rage over monarchies and anarchy. Sci-fi weapons, weither technologically advanced or mixed with magic, exist in this time along with martial weapons either old or technologically advance. This is the time where time travel devices come from, so this is one of the reasons characters need to be green lit for this time.
In this a lot will go on and any thing you do in a time will have an impact on the future and so teams will form where people can recruit others from different times to join them in their cause. Teams can have their own goals and can have their own trials and challenges and there is no "chosen leader" to a team, if you are Alpha and feel like leading, then force your way to the top and lead.
