Though it could not be seen, emotion filled Obsidian Nova's heart and in turn; Merrik's. The bonds he was witnessing were beautiful, to say the least. The emotions that filled the air were powerful and true, and to see these young dragons whom he had stood beside since their first breaths, form bonds of their own. To see them finally have a chance to know the wholeness given only by the connection shared by soulmates, he had never felt so much pride and honest bliss for another in his life.
["Today is a proud day is a proud day indeed, Merrik. Though the stench of war and death lingers in the west bound winds, to witness such a sight fails not to lift my the spirits of ones burdened by the sorrow of knowing. I do not see a look of worry in a single draconic eye. It is as though they have forgotten, if just for a moment, of the heavy burden placed upon them."]
The black haired man nodded at the thoughts of his hellish friend, it truly was a blissful thing; to see the young dragons so carefree after being crushed by the burdens of becoming warriors in so short a time. Their entire lives had been spent in training, they had to be, 2 years was hardly enough time to teach them all there was to know of the art of draconic war.
He had been sceptical when the oracle told him that the people he was being led to were going to, for a fact, be the precise humans each dragon was destined to bond with. It seemed unlikely that out of all the people in the world that he would be able to track down the individual soulmates of the young dragons. Yet two weeks later, here he stood bearing witness to the accuracy and power of the oracle's predictions.
The two observed the events from the skies, smiling and reflecting on their own bond. All seemed to being going perfectly and as expected until Obsidian Nova recieved a sense of concern from Quaking Sand, the tan one. ["Hmm, it appears there may be a slight upset in this seemingly flawless event."] Passing on the received emotions to his tamer with as much ease as drawing a breath into his lungs, the two instantly and simultaneously made the decision to go and inquire as to what was striking worry into the dragon's heart so soon after bonding with his new tamer.
Merrik nodded as the black drake closed the decision to descend to the coliseum and speak with Quaking Sand and Talisar. As the great beast lowered its bulk to the earth, wings fully reared, a low and gentle rumbled vibrated through the earth as Obsidian's full weight pressed into the ground beneath. The dragon then made its way towards where the tan dragon and it's tamer stood, slinking across the earth in a reptilian stride.
Upon reaching the two, Obsidian Nova dipped his head in greeting as Merrik fluidly kicked one leg over the drake's neck and slipped down onto the dragon's lifted forearm and then to the ground for 10 feet was no gentle drop. Sensing that Obsidian Nova wished to speak with Quaking Sand he decided to take this opportunity to congratulate the new tamers on their bonds and to inform them of the next step in the day's events.
He addressed the tamers and their dragons and though the dragons understood spoken English perfectly, he pressed his words out with his voice and his mind alike out of instinct. As he spoke, he strode casually from pair to pair, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade. "I congratulate you on your bonds, I am honored to have witnessed such an intimate event. How is it feeling for all of you? You should already feel completely at home in each other's minds. Though you may not be used to it, it should not be of any discomfort."
Obsidian Nova's blood red eyes were trained on the desert dragon's, his massive head wavering slightly like a snake deciding whether or not to strike as his eyes skipped between minute details in the smaller drake's expression. He spoke directly and privately to him, ["Your mind is not entirely at ease. What troubles you, young one?"]
Merrik continued to speak, "Now that you have all met your dragons I'd like for us all to sit down and discuss a few things. Tonight, we will travel to the far corners of my estate to the forest garden, a sacred and special place." He walked back over to where Obsidian Nova was, insticntually positioning himself near his soulmate.
"I know I have breifly explained the important roles you will all play in the fate of this planet but I feel we need to touch base with what we will be doing as an immediate means of defense against this plague. From now on, our time will not be spent at the manor, but at the forest garden on my family's estate. We will be far from prying eyes, so that we can train you as best we can before we depart to the east to tackle a recent outbreak. Your dragons all have some experience with being ridden but they'll need to adjust what they know to work with each of their riders individually."
He eyed the new tamers and the young dragons sternly. "As for all the tamers, you will be learning to ride for the first time. If you think you know a thing or two about it from riding ponies, think again because it is an experience all its own."
Obsidian Nova's voice came next, booming into the thoughts of all the tamers and their dragons. He remained perched on his haunches, seriousness in his tone. ["You are to take it slow,"] he said, directing his statement at the young drakes. ["These tamers do not have the experience Merrik does and will no stay on your backs so easily. There will be absolutley NO showing off and NO rough housing while in the skies. Should you choose to ignore my statements and your tamer is injured from your own stupidity I will personally blacken your hides, understood?"] He had spent many hours over the last two years training with these dragons and he knew very well which ones were the trouble makers. Though he was confident in the basic flying abilities of the young drakes, he knew that they were used to being ridden by Merrik, who was a skilled rider. These new tamers would have a difficult time staying on the dragons even if they simple stalked the grounds, the skies would be a whole new terror.
"Now," Said Merrik. "In each of their dens you'll find a leather strap that will secure around their neck and just behind their front legs, you'll use these for now for a grip until you get used to balancing. Use their back spikes like a ladder, for the slick bodied dragons they will bow for you, just hop on and sit at the nape of their neck. Squeeze your legs to help keep your balance, and try and rock with the flow of their movement and wingbeats. Lean with them, but gently. I want you all to start with walking around the coliseum. Once you are used to the feel of being on a dragon you may carefully take to the skies. Are we ready to try?" He skipped up Obsidian Nova's back spikes with ease and slid comfortably into the space at the base of his neck, he left his hands free as he no longer needed them for balance.
With a great and massive wingbeat, the black dragon sprung from the ground and shot up into the air where he began to circle the group. "Slowly now! Be as smooth as you can, yearlings!" Merrik was slightly concerned for the safety of the new tamers, but was interested to see how this would go.
