Luca Valerius tucked a small photograph into the inside pocket of his simple leather jacket. He had been tasked to hunt down this mage, to face the judgement of the council. According to the Warden dispatcher, she was charged with killing one of the council's higher-ups. Luca doubted that was the case, and had thus specifically requested the assignment. Of course, if he was wrong, then she was going to be extremely dangerous. It rarely occurred to Luca that he could be wrong, and this definitely would not be the first time. He had a bit of a reputation for helping those he thought to be worth, and that came with a reputation for making mistakes. It was something he had lived with for years.
Standing on the sidewalk in front of his apartment building, Luca pulled a simple silver chain with a quartz pendant from around his neck. He produced a small vial with a few hairs within, carefully tying the hairs to the chain link just above the crystal. Kneeling down to one side of the sidewalk, he produced a bit of chalk, setting the necklace inside a circle he inscribed. Willing it closed, he held the picture of she who he hunted in his mind, extending his power into the crystal. Feeling the spell take hold, he broke the circle, standing with the pendant dangling freely from the end of the chain. After a moment, it moved, as though blown northward by a stiff wind. Picking up the duffel bag that held his sword and a few other implements, the tall, thin man started walking, his dark, unbound hair moving slightly in his haste.
