[Suspect]The Return They've Been Waiting For.[Raven]
She hardly knew what that was anymore since it has been awhile, years even since she been able to get some sleep. Every time she would close her eyes, she would see her lover getting killed, even if she closed them for a split second. The nightmares got more and more horrific day by day. She couldn't handle it all. She just wish that he was home with her now, comforting her, holding her and doing all the things that he did before he left. She wanted him home so bad. It's been a minute since she has heard any word from him and she was getting worried by the second.
There was a brunette, staring out of the window, clutching a golden necklace. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun and she wore a brown colored dress that snug close to her body. Her fair skin glistened from the sun shining through the window and it also brought out her hazel green eyes. She turned around from the window with her head low and offered a soft sigh while walking into the dining room and sitting down at the table. She didn't wear any shoes at the moment since she didn't want to leave the house for any reason because she sees him wherever she goes. She sat at the table along with her mother and father, waiting for breakfast to be served.
The last they heard was that the war was over and that the soldiers should be returning soon. But that was like two days ago. She wondered why he hasn't returned to her. If he was dead, why hasn't no one brought his medals or flags. She tried her best to think positive but there was no way of doing so. She briefly looked up then lowered her head again. Her mother looked at her, saddened that her daughter was dealing with this pain. Her father on the other hand wanted her to forget about it and just move on if he is dead. That made her despise him for a little while and after all, his attitude did deserve it. She picked up her fork and basically played over her food. She could feel the intensity coming from her father but that she ignored since she felt sincerity coming from her mother.
"Anna..." Her mother spoke. "Honey, maybe he is on his way. Maybe he stopped by to see his parents first then is going to take a bus to come and see you." Her mother smiled. Anna lifted her head up and nodded but still remained silent. Her father wiped around his mouth before speaking. "Now, eat like a lady, will ya? Your sadness is starting to bring me down." Anna's mother shook her head at him. "Wilburt, how dare you?" She spoke. "What? She just need to get over it. If he dead, he is dead. Simple as that." He threw his napkin, which caused Anna to jump a little bit. Her father raised up from the table and went upstairs. She looked off to the side of her and sighed again.
Anna hoped for her lover's safe return home and knew that he was coming to see her, sooner or later.
The Macabre and Twisted
The marines had mistaken his transportation home after his unit had been done a week before the war was over and it had taken a week for it to be fixed. The worse part was his last mission was so top secret that he couldn't let his beloved Anna know that he was alive and couldn't wait to see her. Then he had to stay in the barracks in the backwoods with no phone. After the problem was taken care of he was on the first train headed back East.
While on the train he had caught up on his sleep and had woken up just as he was getting to the city. Once at the train terminal he grabbed his bag that carried all he could bring with him for the years of war he had went through. He went into the station to look at the bus schedule. If he would wait for it, he wouldn't be arriving at Anna's parents house until late that evening so he would hail a taxi. He made his way through the empty seats towards the exits. He smiled as he came out. It had been a long time since he had heard the bustle of a city. He hailed the taxi. After getting in he told the driver the address. As the taxi pulled away from the curb his mind wandered to what he had seen over seas. He still had his own nightmares of marred bodies, friends in shock from losing limbs, and the worse was when they came upon a concentration camp in Poland. He sighed and took his officer's hat off to run his hand through his shaggy hair. The war had changed him from the charismatic person to someone cold.
After a short time the cab driver pulled up to the long driveway. He got his bag and started up the drive. He came to a stop at the front door, setting his bag down he checked his watch. They would have just finished breakfast. He took a deep breath before ringing the bell and stood waiting.
Her ears twitched when the doorbell rang out throughout the house. Anna saw one of their maids scrambling and going over to the door. Miss Olivia opened up the door and smiled while pressing her hands over her stomach in a welcoming mood. "Hello there, dear. How are you doing today?" She asked with that smile still placed upon her face. Anna got up from the table and ran through the kitchen doors and into the room that lead to the front door. She seen who it was from a far distance and immediately approached the door and leaped into his arms. She wrapped her legs around him, laughing and crying tears of joy with a little bit of sadness.
She jumped down from around him and turned to see her mother standing there as well, telling them to come on in. Anna grabbed his hand and lead him on inside, while Miss Olivia grabbed his bag. "So, how was it over there?" Her mother asked him. "Mother please, let him rest up then he can tell us all about it." She said with a smile while continuing speaking. "So, how are your parents?" She asked while walking him into the living room. She sat down and patted the spot beside her. Her mother went upstairs to get her father probably, which she hoped that he had got his shit together before coming back down here.
Anna was almost speechless at this particular moment in time. "So, why did you never call me?" She asked with a raised brow and the tilt of her head.
The Macabre and Twisted
"Just fine Miss Olivia." He replied before he had Anna wrapped around him. He held her until she got back on her own feet. He was soon pulled inside. "My father was killed in a factory accident and now my mother is living with my sister on the west coast. I wasn't able to see her before coming here." He sat down next to Anna "I'm sorry they got my ticket wrong so I had to stay in a backwoods base. I wanted to call but they didn't have a phone."
He looked to Miss Olivia and asked if he could have a drink." He really had changed. He use to just order her around instead of asking. He was more respectful and asking for things. "I brought something back for everyone. They are in my bag." He was going to stall as much as he could, so he wouldn't have to talk about his time over there. He got up to retrieve his bag. He brought it back and undid it. He first pulled out a set of french silverware for Anna's mother, then a German pocket watch for her father, and lastly a pearl necklace for Miss Olivia. "Anna you will get your present tonight when I take you to dinner tonight." He had planned this while he and his unit were in a heavy fire fight trying to take out bunkers on the beach of Normandy. If he made it back alive he would propose to her the first night back. He got the ring when he and a few friends went to Switzerland. The ring had a medium sized emerald in the middle with small sapphires framing it. It was simple but the band was made of platinum so it would stand the test of time.
He sat back down as they waited for her whole family to come join them. He closed his eyes feeling the occasional pain he got from his gunshot wound. They couldn't pull the whole bullet out on the battlefield and when he got back to their base camp the wound had healed too much that the doctors couldn't do anything more. "Anna could you please get me a couple aspirin?" He looked at her holding his shoulder. When she had jumped on him it caused the bullet to move a bit making it hurt.
Anna smiled at his behavior. He was new and improved and she loved him even more now. When she saw how nice he was to Miss Olivia, she knew that he wasn't the same anymore but she wondered why he ignored her question. With the shrug of her shoulders, Anna looked at all the items he brought back from his time overseas. She thought that the pearl necklace was her but it was for Miss Olivia, though she wouldn't mind wearing it for a little while. Her ears twitched when he said that she'll get her present tonight over dinner. So romantic. But her heart dropped when she heard about his father. "I'm sorry to hear about your father and that you couldn't see your mother. Maybe we could fly out there and see them together." Anna said with a smile while cuffing his hands with hers then dropped then as she heard her parents coming down stairs.
She stood up and went beside him as her parents were coming back down from the stairs. Her mother saw the french silverware laid out and almost fainted, her father looked at the German pocket watch. Miss Olivia brought back out his drink that he asked politely for and saw her pearl necklace. Anna couldn't help but smile and walk over to her parents. "Me and him are having dinner tonight." She spoke towards them as he father overlooked her and looked at him. "Thanks for the watch, my boy." He said. Anna smiled at her father then looked at her lover. "Yes, I'll go and get that now. Please be nice to him Mother and Father." She said before leaving the room and going upstairs to the bathroom, where she quickly grabbed the aspirin and came back downstairs only to be stopped by Miss Olivia. "He's a changed man." She said towards Anna, who couldn't do nothing but laugh. "Yeah, but I'm sure sooner or later his true nature is going to come out."
Anna smiled while walking back into the living area, handing him the aspirin. She stand back down and looked at him with a raised brow. "What happened to your shoulder, honey?" She asked while slightly massaging it for him. Her mother and father waited to hear as well. Anna hoped nothing tragic happened to him either though this awkward silence made her re-ask her question. "So, how was it overseas?" This time she bit her bottom lip.
The Macabre and Twisted
Caleb smiled at Anna's idea. "I would love that and my mother and sister would love to see you again, but why not have our families finally meet." When her father thanked him, he nodded his welcome. After Caleb was sure that Anna was out of earshot he looked up at her father. "Sir, I would like to have your permission to marry your daughter."
He quickly fell silent when he heard her returning. When she entered the room handing him the aspirin, he popped them into his mouth than took a drink from the glass Miss Olivia had gotten him. "Well on our last mission, I was shot trying to help secure the beaches of Normandy." As she massaged it she could feel the scar tissue. "Sweety I don't think you want to hear about the horrors of war I have seen, but once Europe is rebuilt I would like to take you."
He than got up and turned to her. "I have some business to discuss with your father. I will catch up to you and your mother later at lunch." He leaned into her and kissed her cheek before turning to her father. "Is there a place we can talk in private, Sir?"

Anna nodded her head when he spoke towards her. She really didn't want to hear no more about the war, after feeling the scar tissue and hearing that he got shot. She cringed a little bit at the thought then got up and waved for her mother to follow her outside. She walked towards the gardens in the backyard while speaking softly. "Mother, I love Caleb. He is so romantic." She did a little happy spin while speaking those last little words. "I wonder what your surprise is." Her mother spoke while Anna shrugged her shoulders. She bit on her bottom lip and wondered what it was to. "I don't care what it is, Mother. All I know is..." She stood beside her mother and looked out towards the horizon. "He is all I need."
Her mother smiled as she turned towards Anna. "That gleam in your eye, that sparkle. I had it when I met your father." She spoke happily then started to tear up. "The night he asked me to marry him, it was unexpected, too soon and too early. I mean, I loved him, yes but..." She sighed while turning her head away from Anna and walking away from her, wrapping her arms around herself. "He was seeing someone else at the time." A hushed silence fell over them both as Anna couldn't believe it.
She didn't want to hear no more so she grabbed her mother by the arm and taking her back inside. "Miss Olivia, is lunch almost ready?" Her Mother asked. Miss Olivia nodded her head while walking back towards the kitchen. Anna looked towards her Mother and hugged her. "I'm going to go and get ready for lunch." She said while going up the stairs and into her room, plopping onto her bed. The words her Mother said earlier still buzzing throughout her ears. She sighed softly while reaching up and clutching one of her pillows.

Caleb stood up when she left. "Sir I know you are not very fond of me, but I have changed. I am not the stuck up guy I was before the war. I will treat your daughter with respect and give her everything I can." He had started to pace the floor nervously as he tried to convince her father. He hadn't always been kind to her in the past, but it was different now that he had almost lost her forever.
He stopped and looked at her father before he put his arm around Caleb's shoulder. "Of course my boy you have my permission. I can tell the war has changed you for the best. You better not be pulling my stunt and have a girl in Europe."
"I assure you that I don't I love your daughter whole heartedly and would not do that to her." They walked to the dinning room for lunch. "Where are you taking my baby girl?"
Caleb smiled, "The little French restaurant in the city. I made reservations when I got home. I was quite lucky they had a cancellation." He sat down as he and her father waited for the ladies to join them.
